Hey, really enjoy your videos and all the work you put into them, but as a suggestion, can you maybe do a medeiaval battle maybe in the 1500s. Like heavily armored knights on horseback having a huge charge from both sides. Have them fight in the middle, until the infantry comes and have it just be a large bloody brawl.
I always thought the spear wielding Germanics would always have a critical advantage over the Romans in battle.... Long spears against very short Gladius swords. Both had large shields but yet in the majority of engagements, the Romans were victorious.... Can someone explain how the Gladius would defeat a long spear?
In war ,with many men imaging the pressure, your are forced very close, there is no space for the spear to be effective, but the gladius being short is easier to use in a tight formation.
The romans trained their men to do something, nobody else did. They closed in, underrun the spears and turned the battle into a knife fight. they came so close to the enemy that they could stab them in the face, and than the next and the next. Alone the charge, so close, can break morale of inexperienced troops.
@@Steven-jn2cw from what I know the only spear looking weapon any roman legionnaire carry is the pilum, which they throw at enemy infantry to either cause casualties or force shield wielding opponents to drop their shields once the pilum gets stuck on their shield

There were subdivisions in the cohort. Hastati, principes, and triarii. Hastati were the most inexperienced, principes were more battle hardened, and triarii were the most experienced. Ten cohorts made up a legion, after the Marian reform. A cohort consisted of about 480 men. The cohorts were numbered 1 through 10 and were also based on experience; 1 being the most experienced and 10 being the least. So while auxiliaries would often be at the forefront to spare legionnaires, the legionary cohorts were subdivided to try and put precedent on keeping the most experienced and battle hardened soldiers in an advantageous position to capitalize on tired opponents.
@@grantlicari6393you are wrong, and you confuse things. The hastati/princeps/triari system was abandoned after the Marian reforms. The entire legion would have put the effort in the battle.
