- Terrifying dashcam footage shows a man being shot at and rammed off the road by travellers after he responded to an advert to buy a van from them at the Sandy Lane caravan park in Watford. The man, who prefers to remain unidentified, believes the sale was set-up to lure him to the caravan site to steal his money and identification.

I was once once in my car and chased by a car full of yobs who had baseball bats and were launching bricks at the car. I assumed they wanted the car. They smashed the windows on my car and my passenger was on the phone to the police throughout. The operator kept repeating that there were no police in the area to help and that if it's serious enough we won't get prosecuted for speeding. Lol. Finally after getting away, an officer took a picture of the smashed windows of the car and said they would be in touch.
A couple months later they said there was no CCTV footage (really? after travelling about 3-4 miles around town passing likely 50-100 cameras). I invested in some pepper spray as I was rather worried about travelling about at night after that. Few months later I got pulled over for speeding and the officer found the pepper spray. I was arrested, charged and sent to crown court and sentenced to 100 hours of community service and a 6pm-6am curfew for 3 months. On the day I was caught with the pepper spray the police submitted evidence (for whatever reason) of me travelling in my car and had compiled footage of my car on about 100 CCTV camera's that night.
True story. They only want to help when they can be bothered.
Got off lightly, pepper spray carries the same terms as a firearm I heard!!

Cheers mate. Many people think that. The judge I had for the first few hearings was a very down to earth judge who explained that the minimum sentence was 4 years (not even out in half the time). That shook me a bit and that's what I prepared for. However, he was not correct that the minimum sentence was 4 years. CS gas does come under the section 5 firearms act and is of course prohibited but thankfully not subject to mandatory minimum sentences (currently).

I used to live on a farm and we had travellers come in the middle of the night and steal our sheep. They get away with murder because they don't bide by laws and they can get up and go whenever they please.. even the police are scared of them.

So soooo true, I have experienced the absolute worst, A gang of travellers moved into a house, next door to my parents who are both 74 years old, we experienced untold animal cruelty, Antisocial behaviour, Stealing, fighting, parking over our driveway all through the night, We reported them to RSPCA about the dogs, stupidly the RSPCA hinted that it was us that complained...The travellers moved 12 months ago....They still come back up this street, smashing my parents car, attacked me on the doorstep with multiple threats, I have NEVER EVER met a nice traveller

I grew up in the U.K. And have lived over seas for the past 5 years. The US would never tolerate this because the citizens have guns to defend themselves. The Australian police would not allow it and the tow truck guys would simply start towing away caravans the second they park up somewhere they shouldn't. The UK seriously needs to legislate against this issue. Just because something has been happening for a long time doesn't mean we can't stop it now. It's 2019. Stand up UK no more fear.

About ten years ago in my teens we had a party and set up tents in my mates field. The following day he found his tent had been stolen, only to see it set up down the road at a gypsy camp. A few of them plucked up the courage to ask for it back and ended up having to buy their own tent back at full retail price!

The travellers from this site send there kids to the hotel carparks around the areas to break into cars, I witnessed this at the Hilton in Watford and they were caught red handed by the car owner, the kids get on their mobiles and 5 minutes later two vans of travellers turn up with hammers and bats, threaten the staff and the car owner, take the kids away and the police showed up 50 minutes later and did sweet FA.

Be careful of Autotrader sellers folks. I had a similar experience when buying a Lexus IS220d off Bucks Trade Centre in High Wycombe. After they agreed a part exchange and a sale I walked off with the car with my friend. We spent an hour parked up trying to insure it and off we went on our way. As we drove off the seller suddenly spotted us out on the road going towards the M40 and chased us in my old car just like you see in the video. The garage owner tried pulling us over, speeding, flashing, ramming is off the road because he wanted the Lexus back. Be careful of Auto trader!!! This experience and my experience won't be the last you'll ever hear of Autotrader adverts.

So either they take security seriously in that site, and they have a guy on constant or over watch, or you were expected.

No, he's right about there likely being more to the story. Surely, If you want to steal their money, you don't start shooting them as soon as they come down the road. You'd let them pull up and get out of their car.
Another comment suggested the travellers mistook these guys for enemies coming into to the site to attack them.
There are loads of youtube videos of gangs of travellers going onto another sites and smashing caravans or beating someone up.
Just travelers thinking they can do whatever they want !

I just looked it up on Google maps to see where the raod leads, I'm interested in why the men were going alone that road. Not to sound like I'm making excuses, but I am curious if they were or weren't the target they were aiming for. Oh plus it's a perminant caravan park with a scrap yard across the road, does that hint towards some sort of permanant criminal operation???
There has to be more to this incident. Not even a gypsy is going to shoot at a stranger for absolutely no reason. Scam people, or rob them maybe. Not shoot. My guess is that words were exchanged on the phone prior to this. That's why the gyppos were lying in wait.
