Can we just appreciate how good some of the movies are that we've been getting this year? 2022 seems to be a really good year for horror. X, Prey, Bodies Bodies Bodies, Nope, The Black Phone, Fresh, Crimes of the Future, Scream, Fall, Orphan: First Kill, Men. And still to come we have Don't Worry Darling, Smile, Pearl, Hatching, My Best Friend's Exorcism, Dark Harvest, Halloween Ends, Terrifier 2, Evil Dead Rise, Cabinet of Curiosities.
What's your first crying moment in Interstellar? Mine is when he leaves his daughter and crying in the car... The second hits the hardest, when he gets the video messages from his kids all grown-up. It kills me everytime.
I've felt like the only one who didn't like Prey, so thanks for being the brave one to come out and say it! lol. It wasn't a bad movie by any means, I liked some shots and some action, but I found nothing very compelling about it. I knew exactly what was going to happen in the end (predicted all the deaths and the final scene/overall story arc) so I really didn't feel any suspense, and the movie a little bit formulaic to the action genre for my taste. I also definitely agree about the main lead, her character was very straight-forward and lacking depth (the actress did great for what she was working with though). Not the worst movie ever, but not the masterpiece people put it out to be (in my opinion). But then again everyone has their own opinion so I see why people like it. Edit: Loved Under the Skin and Resurrection though.
i enjoyed prey, but i wish i could have enjoyed it more. i come from a native background and while i loved seeing tribes represented, and native actors represented, i just wish it was less predictable. definitely agree that there wasn't much to overcome, but overall i think this is great native representation :D
Yay another recap video! I LOVED Under the Skin. I don’t think I spoke a word or moved from where I was sitting the entire time I watched it. Such a unique and creative movie, and has a great underlying commentary Edit: HANS ZIMMER did that!🙊 now I understand why the score for The Ring has affected me so much since the first time I watched it
My favorite movie that I watched this month was The Novice, which I watched right after finishing Orphan: First Kill because I just love Isabelle Fuhrman's acting so much. It's not a horror by any means but definitely extremely tense and psychological at some points. Amazing performance from Isabelle Fuhrman and I've seen many other people agree that she deserves an Oscar for it.
I'm with you on Prey, I really don't get it why people are acting like is the best movie ever, it's an okay movie at best in my opinion, I don't know what I'm missing because I really don't get it .
recently discovered you and i swear the more i hear your opinions the more i love this channel. i totally agree about prey. i don’t get the hype. i was also let down because dan trachtenberg’s cloverfield film is one of my all time favorite films and prey is obviously such a massive step down from that.
I like Rebecca Hall too. Have you seen Tales From the Loop on Amazon? It was a series and really different and cool I thought. She was great in it of course.
*spoilers for Lamb* I was waiting for the demonic twist to happen in the movie all the way to the end but it never happened. The entire movie was just building up and I just wanted my satanic unholy crumbs but the actual horror was just the looming inevitability of it. So the demon did appear at the very last moment and the movie ended. I actually really liked this, weirdly. Made me rethink of the events of the movie as a whole, and look further into deeper meaning. BUT I STILL WANT THAT VERSION OF THE MOVIE LIKE WE THOUGHT THE MOVIE WAS GONNA BE ABOUT!
i missed the pregnancy announcement so when you casually mentioned it during the interstellar review i yelled "PREGNANT?????????" congrats oh my god love this for you
Very happy and impressed you liked Lamb. Loooooooots of people hated it because it "wasn't a horror movie"...which...it kinda wasn't. It was more a fantasy drama. I think if it was marketed as such, the sheeple (haha pun intended) may have been more receptive. But prolly not...sheeple have a hard time dealing with no background music and long takes. And anything slow or artsy lol such a shame. We can appreciate it tho!!!
I think Prey got so much hype because it’s been awhile since we got a decent Predator movie. I’m not a huge fan of the franchise either, but in my opinion none of the movies are amazing. The first one is good I guess, and I did like Prey.
Like a lot of people Prey was great in my opinion. Saying it didn't really feel authentic is kind of odd unless you're really knowledgeable about the Comanche culture and are informed enough about it to say that. Other than that I felt pretty much the opposite about everything you said, but that's how it goes. Not every movie is for everyone
Prey is just an unoriginal rehash of the first movie with indians as a stand in idk why people are losing their minds over it. It will be forgotten and nobody will ever watch it again outside it's release window.
Favourite thing I've watch in August is Monsterland (on Crave in Canada). 8 episode, 1 season Anthology (each episode is stand alone, almost more like shorts). Although there are actual monsters, they are all strongly tied to "human monsters". Sometimes getting you to think, who's really the monster? Definitely trigger warnings for each episode. All different ones but the first episode was the darkest so far. Also, filming wise, WOW! Reminds me of Haunting of Hillhouse and that's saying a lot.
Aw man! It’s gutting me to hear your lack luster response towards Prey! I thought that movie was STUNNING. Especially the scene with her facing off against the Predator!!! The colors, the stealth, non nauseating female lead choices, and intensity had me. It’s an easy rewatch for me. I loved it. 💚🖤
I'm SO glad that someone shares my opinion about Prey. I honestly cannot for the life of me understand what people see in this film😂 The English dialogue was baffling to me, somebody said "I gotta go take a leak" or something along those lines and that was....A choice. Overall it felt boring, not true to the era and yeah, it was extremely predictable
I watched under the skin years ago and I absolutely fell in love with Scarlett Johansson in that movie She's So Good the movie is so out of this world. I love seeing aliens trying to be humans.
And I’m not trying to be combative or cancel anyone, but there is so much in the film that adds to it. Representation is so important and adds to what it has to say. I think it benefits people to who are not in the community to look to those who are in the community. It rubbed me a weird way that she said it didn’t feel authentic. Leave it to a white woman to say that. Once again not canceling anyone here, just if you’re going to critic something you have to be prepared for critiques of your own work. Look to Johnnie Jae, Vincent Schilling, and Frank Waln for a new perspective about the importance of how the lead and community was depicted.
i would agree the character was "too strong" if we didn't have that argument given by dude bros about every woman in a scifi movie ever. At this point i rather they be overpowered cause fuck the dude bros
I was just wondering if you've seen Fall yet? I remember you mentioning that you were excited to see it and I saw it and thought it was great! If you did see it, what did you think about it? Edit: NO YOU DID NOT SEE BODIES³ TWICE AND SKIPPED FALL 😭😭😭😭
I watched a lot of interesting movies in August, but one that caught my attention was one that I watched unpretentiously called Frankenstein Reborn from 2005, I'm a fan of the book so I ended up clicking out of curiosity, when I saw The Asylum logo at the beginning I had a concern but I went to the end and I can say that it was an interesting experience, despite being a B movie it has its qualities, great practical effects and good makeup, it's bizarre to think that years ago this company at least tried to make something decent and with personality, but I believe that after a while they realized that making digital sharks fly is cheaper than good makeup and a minimally coherent script.
I agree completely about Prey. I made a post on a different channel about the use of modern English language, and several people didn’t get what I was saying.
I saw Order of The Pheonix at the Hollywood bowl years ago, even as someone who's not the biggest harry Potter fan, for reasons related to the series itself as well as author related reasons, still the score was lovely! Goblet of Fire is my favorite Harry Potter film so I would have loved that.
I loved Prey, but a lot of what you said about is exactly right. It is one I will continue to visit and enjoy, but it's extremely predictable & felt way more modern than it really should've. Great cast, but Sarii was the real MVP. On the flipside.. I feel like I'm one of the few who really didn't enjoy Orphan first kill other than the performances from Julia Stiles & Isabelle Fuhrman.
If you like artistic storylines about aliens learning what it means to be human I highly recommend The Man Who Fell To Earth (the Bowie movie). You might also enjoy reading Stranger in a Strange Land
People liked Prey because their expectations were absurdly low but it wasn't quite as bad as what they were expecting. It's not that great of a movie, but it was somewhat entertaining, reasonably well paced, and the lead character seemed like the worst idea ever on paper, but ended up being totally watchable, in part because she was well cast, I think. You can see that they were aware of the Mary Sue problem. She does have weaknesses and vulnerabilities. She doesn't just appear with super powers and kicks everybody's ass effortlessly. She spends a good portion of the film running away from the predator because she doesn't stand a chance. The plot itself turns on the idea that it's her cunning and intelligence, rather than her badassery, that gives her an edge and makes her victory in the end somewhat plausible if you try and suspend disbelief. Because it had stuff like that in it, you were kind of rooting for it to be a better film than what it was. It had underdog appeal, especially for those of us who are tired of being preached social justice gospel in films directed at us, but are also equally tired of hating those films and complaining about them. It's possible there's a bit of Stockholm Syndrome at work here. It's like you're watching the movie and thinking "dude, I really want to like this movie, just don't f*ck it up" and I think they delivered for the most part, hence the decent reviews. For all the problems Prey has, it's easily the the 2nd or 3rd best Predator sequel because all the others are so bad, except for the 2nd one. I actually liked Prey better than the 2nd one, but there's probably room for disagreement there. Also, Resurrection is the best movie of 2022 so far, imo. Loved it.
I had the same gripe with Prey. She was too good in EVERY aspect. Killed the realism (however realism works in my eyes when regarding a movie that couldn't be farther from real haha but you get the point) One key scene in particular absolutely ruined it for me: she takes a blow from Predator's shield when moments earlier we witness trees being split and a boulder being smashed to bits by the same shield.
Are you forgetting her having to be carried back to camp due to her poor decisions? Too good?? The first half is her making mistakes and looking like an ass.
Yeah, Resurrection felt like a more fleshed-out or less ambiguous version of Men. They’re not the same, but for some reason, they’re really comparable to each other.
I agree on your take on Prey. As a Aliens fan, I came into this not as thrill, so I wasn’t totally disappointed, but not really a movie I’d see again. Speaking of Alien, we desperately need a reboot or like a sequel to Life (2017) which I find criminally underrated
I went to see Hans Zimmer live this year, and he didn't do The Ring at all (I'm not surprised, I guess it's not one of his popular movies) and he did VERY little of Interstellar and none of the good tracks. I was a tad disappointed 😂😔
I have a feeling that Sarah might be getting some unfair backlash from some diehard fans of Prey like she did with The Lighthouse. I will pray for her. 🙏
I agree with your comments on Prey. It's not a bad movie it's well made however it's not the 5 star rating film people are making it out to be. I think because the bar was soooo low for predator films everyone was surprised it wasn't complete garbage. Loved the native american aspect, but felt the side characters had no identity which plays into your critique of wanting more of the culture. Agreed wish it had more gore.
You should watch the concert by Hans Zimmer "Live in Prague" , I've got it on blu-ray, it's amazing. Zimmer is one of my favorite movie composers right there on the podium with John Williams and Danny Elfman
Ya know what deserves a properly funded franchise? Tomie. I've heard the movies that exist are horribly bad, so I've only seen recaps, but the premise of the horror manga is still so interesting. I wish it would get a proper movie that's actually good. It could be like Jennifer's Body, but on crack lol. The themes of a succubus that is actually a tragic woman mistreated by primarily men and making other women jealous are very similar. What is most interesting to me is how in Tomie men supposedly can't control themselves around her, in ways that end in violence... it reminds me of how many now realize men are treated like boys who can't control their urges, and women are blamed for it.
My theory is Hulu put Prey on their platform because the green blood matches the Hulu logo. I liked it, might be a bit overhyped since the last one sucked so much.
I really need to catch up on my new movies, I haven't seen any of the ones I'd been planning to! But the best thing I watched in August (excluding Twilight extended edition because even though I hadn't seen it I'd already seen the original) was the new Evil Dead. Alternatively the worst thing I watched was Camp Hell, 0/10 do not recommend.
Aww i was hoping that you would do a review on fall because I've watched it it's soo good. Also spoiler there's a plot twist in the end which blew me away. Any way i hope you would do a single review on fall because it deserves a own separate video.
i have never been a fan of the older predator movies, not even the first one. always liked alien more and even though it's cheesy avp is a guilty pleasure lol so i really enjoyed prey as like, a standalone kinda movie. the only thing i don't get about them dubbing the comanche is, why didn't they just do a version with them speaking it? there wasn't a ton of dialogue in the movie anyway. i am someone who has subs on no matter what, and watch a lot of foreign stuff, so i would have personally loved it if they had only done the movie on comanche. but that's just me. (and a lot of people don't realize they aren't "speaking" english. I didn't at first.)
Apparently the production company or someone higher up disagreed with Comanche being the main language for the entire film bc they thought it wouldn’t reach the target audience, atleast thats what I remember hearing from the dead meat podcast ep.

What’s a “realistic” wardrobe to you then😂? And the tribe watched over the making of prey and made sure their culture was correct, and she was “superhero like” because she knew what she was doing and this was most likely the predators first time one earth and it’s equipment wasn’t the same due to how far back it was. But to each their own, you have your opinions.
Regarding Prey: They weren't speaking English. What we heard was English but it was established in the begining that they were speaking their native tongue. This same device was used in the great Judgement at Nuremberg (not a horror film).

They just didn't want you to complain about reading subtitles so they did it in english...period

PREY is fantastic, even my friends who aren't horror/action fans really enjoyed it
I don't how but our tastes always seem to align! 😆 I didn't like Prey either and was totally confused by all the good reviews.
Such a unique and creative movie, and has a great underlying commentary
Edit: HANS ZIMMER did that!🙊 now I understand why the score for The Ring has affected me so much since the first time I watched it
My favorite movie that I watched this month was The Novice, which I watched right after finishing Orphan: First Kill because I just love Isabelle Fuhrman's acting so much. It's not a horror by any means but definitely extremely tense and psychological at some points. Amazing performance from Isabelle Fuhrman and I've seen many other people agree that she deserves an Oscar for it.
LOVE the Novice it’s a great thriller
The novice I loooved it so much too.
I'm with you on Prey, I really don't get it why people are acting like is the best movie ever, it's an okay movie at best in my opinion, I don't know what I'm missing because I really don't get it .
I was so fuckin excited!!! N gurrrrr very vanilla
I love PREY. I think it is a fantastic movie.
recently discovered you and i swear the more i hear your opinions the more i love this channel. i totally agree about prey. i don’t get the hype. i was also let down because dan trachtenberg’s cloverfield film is one of my all time favorite films and prey is obviously such a massive step down from that.
I like Rebecca Hall too. Have you seen Tales From the Loop on Amazon? It was a series and really different and cool I thought. She was great in it of course.
*spoilers for Lamb*
I was waiting for the demonic twist to happen in the movie all the way to the end but it never happened.
In Fabric is pure Camp! If you like weird/gross imagery and have an out-there sense of humor, definitely give it a shot.
i missed the pregnancy announcement so when you casually mentioned it during the interstellar review i yelled "PREGNANT?????????" congrats oh my god love this for you
Ressurection is fantastic. strangely enough, some people don't understand the difference between the view of a hallucinating person and reality.
Thanks for watching Allegoria! Glad you enjoyed it!
Same for Under the Skin hoenstly
I think Prey got so much hype because it’s been awhile since we got a decent Predator movie. I’m not a huge fan of the franchise either, but in my opinion none of the movies are amazing. The first one is good I guess, and I did like Prey.
Like a lot of people Prey was great in my opinion.
Saying it didn't really feel authentic is kind of odd unless you're really knowledgeable about the Comanche culture and are informed enough about it to say that.
Other than that I felt pretty much the opposite about everything you said, but that's how it goes. Not every movie is for everyone
I second this one.
Prey is just an unoriginal rehash of the first movie with indians as a stand in idk why people are losing their minds over it. It will be forgotten and nobody will ever watch it again outside it's release window.
@@Lifesizemortal *native Americans
Thank you because this exactly.
@@Lifesizemortal this is racist. Next.
Reminds me of Haunting of Hillhouse and that's saying a lot.
under the skin is such a great film.
scarlet is the perfect actress for this very bizaare film.
Aw man! It’s gutting me to hear your lack luster response towards Prey!
I thought that movie was STUNNING. Especially the scene with her facing off against the Predator!!! The colors, the stealth, non nauseating female lead choices, and intensity had me.
It’s an easy rewatch for me. I loved it. 💚🖤
Lamb was excellent and agree with Orphan first kill, very good and well written, I couldn't believe it, I will rewatch fore sure,🐑🐑🐑🐑👯👯👯👯
When I watch Interstellar,I cry too;.(.. I also play the HZimmer theme on the guitar and piano at least once a month!
Edit: NO YOU DID NOT SEE BODIES³ TWICE AND SKIPPED FALL 😭😭😭😭
omg i been waiting for this video since august started so exited to watch
Obviously I’ll never know what it’s like to be pregnant, but watching RESURRECTION must have been an EXPERIENCE for you lmaoo
Fall is one of my favourite movies of the year 😍
just watched fall earlier today, obv no spoilers but i enjoyed it a lot more than i expected
good use of switching tones too
I saw Order of The Pheonix at the Hollywood bowl years ago, even as someone who's not the biggest harry Potter fan, for reasons related to the series itself as well as author related reasons, still the score was lovely! Goblet of Fire is my favorite Harry Potter film so I would have loved that.
Goblet of Fire is also my favorite! PoA is my second favorite for sure!
I absolutely LOVED Prey❤️ but I think it’s more of a sci-fi for people that don’t like sci-fi lol
Where did you get your amazing shirt?? 😍 Also as a Big Brother fan it cracked me up when you showed a glimpse of the live feeds.😂
Predator is one of the scariest villains/monters to me, maybe THE scariest
not a horror, but my favorite movie this month was good luck to you, leo grande. i also really liked helter skelter (2012)
Lamb while weird is a less weird version of Eraserhead. I highly recommend eraserhead.
the baby scene in the under skin really left an impression on me it was so hard to watch
I just watched The Mortuary Collection and I 100% as an easy but also cool Halloween movie :d definitely give it a try !!!! It surprised me :))
You should do a ranking video of blumhouse horror films like you did for a24
are you going to see The Silent Twins? I don't think i've heard you mention or pretty much anyone talk about this movie. It's based on a true story
Orphan first kill love ❤️ it
Aww i was hoping that you would do a review on fall because I've watched it it's soo good. Also spoiler there's a plot twist in the end which blew me away. Any way i hope you would do a single review on fall because it deserves a own separate video.
i wanna watch bodies x3 so bad the trailer looks so good but its not here in the uk yet
Fall aka Minimalist The Descent without creatures lol. Even synonymous title.
Please make video of all the Ring movies!
I’m obsessed with your T Shirt 😍 Where can I get one??
Starry Eyes is a classic
i have never been a fan of the older predator movies, not even the first one. always liked alien more and even though it's cheesy avp is a guilty pleasure lol so i really enjoyed prey as like, a standalone kinda movie. the only thing i don't get about them dubbing the comanche is, why didn't they just do a version with them speaking it? there wasn't a ton of dialogue in the movie anyway. i am someone who has subs on no matter what, and watch a lot of foreign stuff, so i would have personally loved it if they had only done the movie on comanche. but that's just me.

@@ra.gonzzo i get it, makes sense. a lot of people prob wouldn't have watched it that way.
