Where do pro drummers practice when they’re not touring or in the studio?
In this video, you’ll see 10 of your favorite players take you through their home practice spaces, show you their gear, and walk you through their setups:
0:00 Intro
0:49 Jared Falk goes into his garage whisper room - ‘the Beat Box’ - and shows you his Yamaha Recording Customs, Paiste 602 reissue cymbals, and the tiniest snare you’ve ever seen.
6:32 Anika Nilles gives an overview of her two kits, her teaching setup, her cameras and recording setup, and practice pads.
9:03 Glen Sobel goes over his temporary setup, which consists of a ‘cobbled together’ kit due to his usual teaching/practice space being closed during the pandemic.
10:20 Tommy Igoe talks about how to ‘tune’ a room, shows a few kits and snares from his collection, highlights his recording setup and editing station, and introduces you to a very good dog.
15:00 Sarah Thawer introduces her drumming and writing setups, as well as a few items every drummer should have in their practice space (yes, that includes lotion).
18:26 Dorothea Taylor walks you around the ‘lady cave’, her vintage kits, her practice pads, and a huge drumming VHS collection.
21:12 Brian Frasier-Moore shows you his snare collection, his kit, his mic setup and electronics, his monitoring and camera setup, and a sneak preview of one of his recent recordings.
25:12 Kaz Rodriguez gives you his gear tour from behind the kit, shows you his micing and recording setup, plus LP Microsnare prototypes and Tama Mini FX snares and more in detail.
30:11 Juan ‘Carlito’ Mendoza takes you through his setup for live streams and online lessons, his drums and percussion instruments, his mixing room, and some rare snare drums.
34:19 Marco Minnemann explains his ‘kitchen’ setup, then goes over his recording tools and his DW Jazz Series.

Wtffff men, no tony taylor jr......plssssssssssssssss invite him,
@@DonDon-eo5nv do you get😩🤲🏾?
Shoutout to Jared for the EAD10! Mine was stolen years ago and I’ve not been able to get one again. My toddler LOVED IT! I actually managed to talk Samash into selling me their only one from the showroom floor about 1-2 months before they were released for retail! I miss it so much. I’d trade almost any of my gear for one.
Tommy: I’m keeping my studio simple, don’t want to break the bank
Also Tommy: has 9 snare drums, 4 whole kits, a shelf of cymbals, hundreds of dollars worth of acoustic panels, the best preamps + AD/DA box money can buy
"I have only 9 snares"
He has forgotten that most of us have very little money. He also has a top of the line Mac, software, mics, cables, and looks to be quite a sizable basement space. Mr. Igoe is way out of touch with the common man. Wouldn't we all want Mr. Igoe's life. He may play well, but he is tone deaf.
jo whitaker
Your last line was perfect.
Give Tommy a break. He is a full time professional drummer. What people are clearly missing is that drumming is his BUSINESS. Compared to any retail business owner (for example, a restaurant), his level of initial expense, and his ongoing operational expenses are TINY in comparison. It's not fair to compare him to someone treating drums like a hobby or even part time gig.
tommy devoted his life to the instrument and all of us get to enjoy the results of his passion and commitment. hes also probably one of the best drummers in the world for it. if tommy's killing it and has a nice setup for his efforts and for the STANDARD that his playing requires then kudos to him. I wouldn't do it any differently if I was his level.
"this is me showing tony royster how to play some rudiments" What an insane flex said so casually.
Tommy saying "too many choices is the enemy of creativity because you wind up playing with gear" hit me straight in the gut when I think back to the number of times I sat down at a synth to make music and ended up auditioning sounds for three hours and then quitting.
analysis paralysis and the paradox of choice
OMG brooo I need a "beat box" too, my neighbours will love it! 😱
I'm sorry Alejandro but I dont have a beat box . I have Zildjan cymbals ,SP highhat stand and some extras .
This was really interesting. Not many talked about if their rooms were sound isolated. Would be really interested to see a Drumeo video on how to set up to record / mic AND set up video for doing online lessons.
Thanks Jared. at 50 I'm a "fairly" long-time garage band drummer,(local bands, etc.), who hasn't touched the drums in 5 years since taking up a new hobby, BUT, the itch to play round again keeps creeping back!:) I find Drumeo vids to be my most watched and I'm very close to setting up a practice pad setup in spare room again just to get my hands on the sticks so I Really appreciate videos such as these as well as all the normal guests, etc. to help Motivate/push me on alittle further in getting back at it...Thanks Again!
When Kaz said "right here...", my mind immediately heard "this goes to 11". 🤣
But this is my new favorite video EVER!!!! I GOT EMOTIONAL several times seeing all these practice spaces. ❤
Holy Crap. This is the best video I have ever watched. How fantastic is this to watch some of the best drummers on the planet show us their practise space in their homes. I am so humbled by these drummers as they share their private space to all of us and all of their equipment for playing and recording as well as their teaching to students. So enlightening. New respect to all of these great drummers/musicians. Rock On Drumeo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love Tommy. One of my first instructional DVD's was his Groove Essentials. Gosh, that had to be 15 or 20 years ago.
I too have a set of Paiste 602 reissues, 14” medium hats, 18” thin crash, 20” flat ride and 22” medium ride... to me they highlight the best of Paiste. Love the crystal clearness of them.
Todd succherman's setup would be great to see included in this video..
Such an amazing setup and collection he has in his studio😍😍
I took a lesson with Todd at that studio! It’s in Austin, TX. He has his main Stixx kit setup in the middle which he kindly let me play on. It has a DW9000 series double pedal and hi hat stands in gold as well as the rims of the kit are gold colored. He has a small jazz kit setup on the side as well. The snare wall there is really cool and he has kits from a lot of his different tours stacked up. There is also an area where he has a computer setup and his recording equipment. His recordings he sends to his sound engineer JR Taylor, who I also have had to the privilege to meet and work with. Good people!
Jared, thanks so much for showing this noise test. I was thinking about the same isolated drum room too. Great content overall, very interesting!
jared casualy flexing his insane setup
edit: where's sput?
the room alone is at least 10k
Trevor Lahey Ludwig drums fuckgoof! Chips, let’s go...
This was really cool. Seeing how these pros setup inspired me for some reason, but I didn't feel ashamed of my amature setup
Lol me too, my set up is very small and kind of cramped but gets the job done.
same exact here, i don't hate my setup anymore
Loved this! Would love to see more drummers if decide to do this again!
Thanks for this upload Drumeo. Great to look inside the setups and see how the professionals live.
It was really cool to hear from Anika: "Here we have coffee with my students" and then: "Thanks to COVID 19 no one is coming in" :) Best wishes to Anika :)
She can drink all the coffee 😁
Bartosz from Dark (Netflix)? 😃
Great video! It would be great to see this become a series 😜 maybe can try to explore more about how great drummers soundproofing their practice room and being a noisy neighbour.. would love to see that!
9:48 glen sobel has really nice doubles, damn
Sarah is so fun!
That’s an amazing, beautiful 12 piece kit Jared. ❤
This is a good one! Thanks!
Great video! It's nice to see their home-setups!
I love Marco's China, including specialised cymbal cracks to enhance the Darkness!
Loved this! please do more of these!
That was fun to watch! Love Sarah's enthusiasm and drumming style:) Hope she'll be back for more lessons on Drumeo!
So cool hearing dorothea giving a rundown of her drum room, its currently my favorite rig rundown ever now. and im a guitarist (which is why i called it a rig rundown, might be different in the drumworld)
Wow!!! Loads of love!!!
You are all inspiring thank you.....watching ya on youtube in my little drum studio in Kent....Great Video Drumeo....TreVbeats
Dorothea showing Tony how to play some Rudiments in his clinic .. LMAO
“I don’t remember...”
That’s Picasso’s “The Old Guitarist”
I came here to say this. Although I also would’ve been wrong, as I thought that it was Picasso’s “The Guitarist”. I’m glad that I saw your post first.
Great idea! I really liked seeing how other drummers do their studios. More of that please?
Great video to see how everyone has things set up. Thanks for sharing.
So fun... love this. Thanks for putting it together.
Watching this video inspired me to practice.... Thank you! If the saying, "If you sound good when you're practicing, you're working on the wrong stuff." -is true... then I was DEFINITELY working on the RIGHT stuff today because I didn't sound good at all.... lol
Awesome video. Their people just like us....passion, practice practice practice kids. Glen seems like a cool dude. Imagine him or Marco being your neighbor. 😁
Super inspiring to watch all of these!
Loved the Tommy Igoe segment.
I love Brian Frasier's studio!!! A lot of techs!!!
I love the “beatbox” I may build one of those in the corner of my garage. My jam spot reminds me the most of Jared’s, in the garage, right next to my tractor. Haha 😆
This made me smile @Drumeo. Thanks for the creative content...
I love Jared's hi-hat stand story!! Nice one!!
This made the gear junkie in my heart so happy! Thank you for having everyone making it! I hope I am not stirring the pot, but Jared what is up with the Vater sticks at your practice room? I love Vater so much so I am just excited
😉
VERY INSPIRING! Thank you for this.
Probably what I needed to hear and see. I have a Clarett X, and top end Audix mics for my Bubingas and still think I need more. Because im a perfectionist. I want album quality done my way but always think I need more when in reality, I just need a mixologist to perfect the final result instead of me trying to get a finished sound going directly in. But seeing some of these spaces of pros kinda proves you dont need a full fledge studio tracking room. Drums and demands have changed so much. Drummers still have to spend the most money for personal recording set ups but its such a valuable skill and asset to have these days.
I remember when I first bought Great hands for life by Tommy Igoe. It was my first real instructional drum videos. It helped me realize my left hand SUCKED at life, and more importantly, how to fix it. Love Tommy!
(And Anika!) Obviously.......
Damn, I wish I could find a place to even set up my drums to practice 😂
😪😟
I never realized how Canadian Jared sounds until he said hi hat stand
Hi Jared, I've got exactly the same old hi-hat stand on my garage kit- It's actually really nice. It was Pearls answer to Tama's Lever-glide which I also have and love.
Jared: I LOVE the high-hat story!!! I never had "new" gear as a kid, but I had a drum key and steel snare drum my dad gave me from his playing days in the late-60s. Unfortunately, it was stolen with my entire kit by a former roommate.
Man... rough
I love this. And I’m baffled anyone would give this a thumbs down. I noticed a few and I’m scratching my head. What’s wrong with people?
Thats so nice you are using that hi-hat stand from your parents 😊😊😊
Love that hihat stand Jared! I had the same one and sold it. I loved it and want another one!!
Really enjoyed this video !
The Brian space is a total dream!!!
Great comparison of practice spaces and super interesting how different all the PROs keep their space. From I don't have space, let's use this corner to high end and cleaned up practice spaces for thousands of dollar :-) NICE!
Fantastic video thanks! 👍
All these people who are my biggest inspiration, Especially the Drumeo man! 🙌🏻💪🏼👌🏼🙏🏻
Really awesome vid, I hope you can do another one!
jared i have the same exact hi-hat stand and i think its fantastic! dont let anyone make fun of you for that buddy haha
Really cool to see !! :)
Simply Awesome love it!
I thoroughly enjoyed that video. Great to see other people’s spaces without all the fancy camera shots.
I saw some comments calling Tommy Igoe out for "only" having 9 snares? Guys I know hobbyists with more than that! And he's also been collecting odds and ends for decades at this point!
I have that exact same Pearl hi hat stand I refuse to replace haha!
Igo is friggin awesome,
17:55 whoa didn't expect that. 👍
that Pearl single-braced H/H stand ALL YOU NEED! (player/collector here, & i SWEAR by 'em...)
Great idea 👍❤️
Amazing video!!!
I have the same hihat stand as Jared :D My old one broke and my friend gave it to me, it was a upgrade for me haha
Hi Jared, I use regularly Drum Art snares (that's what they are famous for) and I suggest you to test them. Simply fantastic
Awesome, thanx. Some very surprising......
Could you make a video about „How to stream Drumming“ on: Instagram, Twitch, etc.?
Because some say they have product/mixer X Y to stream and I think this could be interesting in this time and I‘d love to stream drumming live on Instagram
100% agree on this
Yooo Jared I got the same hihat stand, except no legs. But on a pearl rack. Keep it 👍
great video
Amazing!!!!!
That logo on the throne remembered me of elp lmao
hey Jared! i like your practice box!
It would be insane to use Jared's room for guitar/bass recording, especially at stage volume LOL! Not a drummer but this is a great video. :)
I like how sort of messy Anika's room is :)
2:31 I also have that hi hat stand!!!
I like Jared Falk home practice space😍✨🎉,my dream home practice space🎉✨
@kazrodriguez funny enough your performance with zildjian live was also one of the coolest moments in drumming history for me. You the man.
Thx to drumeo and to all the drummers who show us their Home Practice Spaces! Very interestng!
18:35 wow that's sick
I love how just as they pan over Dorothea's tom set-up, she says Kenny Aronoff. This is when they reveal that her toms are set-up "backward", like he does it. Wonder if he rubbed off on her???
Juan is trusting the hell out of that PA stand with the minitor on it, lmao.
Can you ask Anika where she got the hi-hat tambourine? I have never seen a design like that and love it. thanks!
The painting is Pablo Picasso - The Old Guitarist.
The hi hat story hit home for me broth’a. My father was my inspiration to play. He played through my childhood with my mother in a country band wear my mom sang and played piano and that very same stand came with his, at the time, a brand new Pearl Export 5pc kit of which I eventually inherited and sits in my garage as I type. With that said, I’m starting a music production company with my lead guitar player called Foxx Light Productions and I was curious, what would you recommend to be the most professional and effective method on approaching potential drum oriented companies for sponsorship? Thanks for the videos and content. Niko Foxx.
Awesome video! Thnx for Made It!
Got a Question...
How big Is that "beat box" silent cage from Jared's house???
18:34 OMG thats crazy!!!!!
Jared i feel you men. I bought several gear parts, drums, cymbals and all things music related since i was 12, but the snare stand i use is still the one from my first kit that my parents got me for christmas when i was 11 :D it barelly closes, but still works so why trade it? xD
Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really like how Juan Carlito Mendoza called DW 900, " old pedal."
bro i got the same old pearl hihat stand still holds up :) yiieeww
Cool!
I would love to learn how to make Jared’s whisper room.
