    Did not serve in spesial forces but the Military Police and yes everyone serving in the Norwegian Armed Forces has to do that march in the recruit school!

    I have done this. Almost just as warm and a lot more terrain. It was the warmest summer in a long time . I was a conscript. Every conscript have to do it. They dumped us 30 km out and you had to walk back. No one would pick you up regardless off reason. The staff thought the girl next to me was facing a fot injury to get out of it. At the goal she was crying and we could not get her boots of. Had to be cut of because of the swelling. Turned out the fot had a fracture.

    I took this march in January in northern Norway when it was -15 and some northerly wind, and made it exactly one minute before four and a half hours. Never did it again.

    in norway when doing the death march it depends on where you are in norway, but generally it would be a bit colder since it's in norway but also more elavation. then again this test doesn't really have a set weather condition since it can be done pretty much anytime of year

      Yeah, we've had some crazy hot summers lately too... But I think I'd choose the cold over the hot any day

    The conditions would warry by the unit. These guys have a very hot, but flat environment. Here in Norway some have to do it in freezing temperatures which means you don't have the issues these guys had, but you'll have to get the clothing right, you don't want to get cold, but if you have to much cloths you can still over heat so you need to adjust. If it's very cold, breathing can be hard, or if it's like where I was stationed it was often wet and cold, with temperatures fluctuating and a lost of moisture in the air from the large nearby river first made you wet before the temperature fell and froze everything before the winter really set in. I did this run in a more modest climate, but it was raining on and off, we got wet and cold, our cloths stuck to the body. The road was gravel and our feet often "stuck" ever so slightly more to the ground, which over time was very noticeable. And we had far more hilly terrain, not crazy mountainous, but up and down small hills with a slight average incline towards the finishline which was also noticeable. So, everyone faces different challenges, and I can't say what's worse.
    As to how difficult it is, you'd need to walk on average 6,67kph to pass, average walking speed is 4,8kph when you're in your 20's, here in Norway at least. That's like 4,14 and 3mph for those using less logical measurements. So, it's not super fast, but it also means you need to powerwalk or jog for four and a half hours. For me I ended up a little above average, not because I was so fit, but because I found it difficult to find that sweet spot in speed and energy saving, it didn't feel right, I either had to go to slow, or a little faster than I really needed for it to be comfortable.
    I also did the same distance later after missing my ride home after a party in the next village. I didn't have a backpack, but I started off drunk and was sober by the time I got home. I have no idea how long it took, but it was dark when I started and the sun was up when I got home.

    That is 30km (Tremila). I think all Norwegian soldiers did this 2 times during the one year mandatory conscription service (1 year). One time on foot and one time on skis.
    Doing this in the heat must be hell and slowed them down alot. I have done this multiple times in cool conditions in about 3h30min. On skis I barely made on time 🙂
    Doing this in that heat...respect.

    As for the Norwegian Special Forces - a lot of what we classify as conventional forces with conscripts, are classified by NATO and the US as special forces, so I guess that says a lot about our military in general. And as for this march, I mean, this is usually done in a bit more difficult terrain, and it is wayyyyy colder.

  • @oh515
    @oh515 Месяц назад +2

    Yes, everyone who served the military has done that, but not in such hot weather though 😅It was a lot of walking though. I was under 3,5 hours, but I would never manage that in such hot weather. I would probably not make it at all 😂

    Did that, but every saturdays before, started with shorter marchs, up til this length. Did all of them, and in due time. It was the same for both genders, same weight in our rucksacks, same time. It was fun for me, was really fit at that time... mid 70's...😂

    Did this march 2 times, but not in that heat. We got a score 1-10 ( if i remeber correctly, was back in '89 ) for doing it faster than the time limit.... It was a course for platoon leaders ( Lagfører skolen ) this course don't exist annymore! The boots we used where not as good as the boots these guys use btw.

    "Everybody" can mannage 30 km at the requierd time, but to pass the challenge you have to be battle fit the next day, and that makes the test a little bit more challenging
    First time i took this test about 50% were disquallified the next day becouse of blisters, cramps and gegeral pain

    It was not that hard, the most important thing was to have good well worn in boots, those who gave in did so because of the feet.
