This was interesting. I started with the Q-P - the “gateway drug.” Then M-8. Then ME Typ 240. Then Q2 Monochrom. Then M Typ 246. I looked seriously for the 262, but couldn’t find one I wanted to buy. Looked at M10, but got the M-10P. I recently went on a photo workshop with a Danish Leica expert RUclipsr (who could it have been?). He noted that I had the M10P and I told him that I bought it because of the Leica script on the top plate. Which was true. He smiled. I mentioned that it also had a level and quieter shutter, but those weren’t the deciding factors. I felt better about using the camera body with the Leica script on the top plate, rather than the one with the red dot. Irrational? Yes, but there it is.
Great stuff Richard, I sometimes speak with said photographer and we’re supposed to hook up at some point. Photos definitely look better when a camera has a script on the top! Just fact :)
That is what happened to me. I was a Fuji fanboy and thought of buying a Fuji GFX 50R. However, when I went to the store there was a Leica M246 there. I picked it up and immediately "fell in love". After that it has been all Leicas and no Fujis or Sonys.
😂 my god Matt your brain must be fried 🤯 you are worse than me - I thought it was not possible- mate, you just need to suck it up and keep the M10-p it’s your dream camera and if you don’t keep it you will always think of it and wish it back - do what makes you happy! You get one life- live for today!!! It’s only money as my good wife says…..
I have wanted an M10-P since its introduction at Photokina 2018, but it was crazy expensive new. So I waited two more years before an official Leica dealer had a great offer for a new M10-P during coronavirus times on eBay. So I bought it, and I still love it. For me, it's still the most beautiful digital M camera. I've always wanted an M10 because it has the exact dimensions of my film Leica M cameras and is not as beefy as the previous digital Leica M cameras. Luckily the M11-P does not trigger me so far. I do model shoots, too, and the silent shutter was not a problem so far. A film M camera Is also very silent. So my advice is to keep the Leica M10-P and sell the other digital M cameras.
.... mmmMMM!!!! Well - exactly! My own M10-P will come up for "transfer to a new home" .. not only, but also, because of some costly-but-necessary house repairs.. The M240-P (...Leica script on top - loved for the same reasons as you mention..) is still just wonderful, thank you - will simply 'have to do' - which it does - quite convincingly!! Thanks again for another great video!!! :-)))))
Hi Matt. Thanks for showing the differences between the individual digital Leica M cameras. Congratulations on purchasing the M10-P and have fun with it. By the way, my first Leica M ever is an M10-R Black paint, which is still my favorite camera.
Hi Matt, I've enjoyed these last few posts of yours, yes particularly because I have similar quirks, no red dot, and Leica script on the top YES PLEASE! Budget, mmm, so I found a Leica MD 262 and I love it, love it, love it! What no screen yep - and it is a wonderful shooting experience and the battery, well it lasts for days and days. The colour science is wonderful, really looks like film tones without the grain B&W is great too. I could truly recommend the Leica MD.
My GAS after getting my black paint M240 is I wish it has more dynamic range, so I immediately put the M10R black paint as my dream camera list. But the more I used my M240, and comparing photos to my main work camera Canon R5 and R5C, I really do love the look of the M240 sensor. Yes, it is more technically challenging, but in a way it force me to be a better natural light photographer to work around the limitation without [HSS] strobe. Also, you know I got a black badge on my 240 :-)
I understand. Lots of people say how something looks and feels doesn't matter but if it makes you more productive (and happy) then go for it. When I was a working press guy I didn't care too much as the cameras got bashed about but as a retired guy I'm more particular. I really enjoy cameras and the way they handle and function. My philosophy is, if you're not going to spend your money on what you enjoy doing, what are you going to spend it on? I'm in the privileged position of being able to afford what I want but I'm not sure an M-series is right for me. Your videos make them seem just a little too 'fragile' - particularly the rangefinder calibrations. My brother-in-law had an M6 which stopped working and was simply too expensive to repair. For you, I reckon keep the M10-P :)
Thanks and well said. Ms are not super fragile for normal use. You can learn to calibrate yourself and then it’s zero stress with all the upside. M6 meters did but rest can service, use local guy for cheaper repair price.
I have an M10M and while in Paris I bought an M11M. Both in my bag with the 75 lux on one and the 0.95 on the other. Dream team. Both great, not completely convinced the m11m is better, but the electric shutter obviates the need for nd filters and the internal memory is real blessing. Lighter too.
Dear Matt, I fully agree with your assessment of the different models!! But I enjoy my M10-P every time I use it - mainly for private use and portrait. Better sell the M10 … and btw. I do also the touch screen quite often to review a shot. Best regards from Germany
Oh my goodness 😂 I’ve personally been thinking about trading my regular M10 for an M10-R but I can definitely see the appeal of the M10-P. The thing with me is that I have an M10M so at first glance I would get them confused since they both have a black dot and I do like the red dot on one of my Ms at least. Anyways, hope you enjoy it Matt!
I deliberated for a long time between M-P 240, M10-P, M10-R and M11-P. In the end, I decided in favour of the M11-P. If I had opted for the M10-P, I would be thinking about it again after a year. I have the first generation with the M8 and the last generation with the M11-P. I‘m happy
I’m swimming against the tide. I bought the Q2, loved it and bought the M11. I found that I took better pictures on the Q2 and was forcing myself to use the M11. The M11 is an amazing camera with stupendous image quality but I’m just about to get on a train to London to put it up for sale even though it’s been completely trouble free. So if you want a good M11, go to the The Classic Camera near the British Museum and buy mine!
Welcome to the club. One question: why not keep the M10-P and sell the M10 when it comes back. Now for its back to normal depth (//M6), its shutter, its higher ISO capacity and better EVF (than the M 240) the M10-P is a no brainer and I am not sure I need 40 or 60 Mp (I tend to never crop so I do not need the extra MPs. All the best with the qualms Mat. ;0)
Hi. Congratulation for purchasing this beautiful camera. by the way where did you purchase this one? I try in the Internet so many times I didn’t find a new one.
I get it where you are coming from. It happens where you feel you are content with one thing and then you realise you would be happier with the other option. I borrowed and tested a lot of the Leica bodies and I finally chose and made a decision what I wanted and saved up for it for a while. I finally own the M10 and M4-P and I am really satisfied with them, and as they do exactly what I want and do not need to upgrade. Keep the videos coming please. I find them informative and helpful. Actually and to be brutally honest, I look forward to seeing them.
Hey, just watched your videos on viewfinder magnifiers and asked myself how good framelines can be seen in a film M camera when it's getting dark outside? I ask because lenses like Noctilux are marketed to be perfect for flash-less shooting in dark environments. Do you still see the framelines at night?
Great question. I’ve never not seen framelines from memory, I’ll have to check in the dark sometime. I bought my Nocti to shoot dark weddings so it must work. (Back 8yrs ago)
I have been holding off on the M11P. I love my M10M and M11M and prefer the colors from my SL cameras so Most likely will not add a color M back into my kit. I think I will just keep shooting color with the SL cameras and monochrom with the M cameras. I use to do this with film. Shot BW on the M's and E100G in my R8.
My first M was an M10-P I got a good deal on. In the end I sold it for a profit after a few months because the leica m experience wasn't as magical as I thought it would be. Then after using the SL2-S I bought afterwards for a while I kept thinking the photos were nice, backside illuminated sensor and IBIS was nice, EVF was fantastic, but I was missing the smaller form factor of the M and while going out to take pictures was still a desire, the camera itself wasn't a part of my desire to shoot. I couldn't just grab that brick and take it everywhere just hanging around my neck. Now I'm back at the start with an M8 and trying to resist the temptation to buy an M6 or MP. Won't bother with a newer digital M since to me they offer the same "look" as any other modern digital camera which isn't what I want out of an M. Having said all that, if the M12 (or some version of it) comes out with a hybrid EVF which is a rumored possibility, and maybe even IBIS, I'll seriously have to get one.
The ISO wheel on the M10 is so convenient. That's the only thing that would draw me away from my M240. I often change exposure without looking because the aperture and shutter both rotate in accordance to the red light indicators in the OVF.. but the ISO I have to pop into the menus. I would *love* if I could blindly change the ISO too. As much as I like pretending it's film (ISO locked for the day), I would like to lean on that digital convenience!
Great comparison Matt. The Leica M1OP has more than just a thinner body, quieter shutter and script on the top plate . It has a touch screen, WIFi , faster frame rate as the buffer has been improved. Way better noise reduction thanks to the maestro 2 processor. The touch information screen makes adjustments in metering, user profile, white balance , file format a breeze without going into the menu. The menu has also been stream lined and improved. Batteries and accessories are still made by Leica and readily available. The battery for M type 240, 262, 246 and others of that platform has been officially discontinued. I also own a M240 but the M 10P is better and my go to. Faster and more efficient in every way. Battery life is good as the circuitry is far more efficient. The touch screen is indispensable when checking focus a quick finger pinch and expand zooms the preview image up in a snap. Yes the shooting experience is similar but the M10P makes the experience that much better. The M10 series is designed to work effectively without diving into a menu. The core exposure adjustments are all manual, ISO, shutter speed and lens aperture can all be adjusted even with the camera off. The viewfinder is a true 72 and is much better than the 68 in the M Type cameras. I’ll be trading in my M type 240 as news of Leica discontinuing the battery will most likely in time affect its resale value.
@@Van-Wolff that is the last available stock, once those batteries are sold there will be no more as the battery has officially been discontinued . So get one or two while you can.
Thanks for the great details. I get my upgraded M10(P) back in 2025 I think. I’ll be interested to look for differences. Mine will be unique as no silent shutter as I requested the half upgrade. I need shutter sound for models. Excited to see it! Yes it’s sad about the M240 batteries.
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom there are differences that are good and bad. we touched on the good some of the negatives in the M10P or M10 for that matter, for one they removed colour profile, you no longer have a choice between sRGB and Adobe RGB. If you print, Adobe RGB has the larger colour gamut so more colours can be captured and therefore reproduced. In the M10, M10P your images are ll captured compressed, the M240 gave you a choice to compress your files or not to. In the M10, M10P You no longer have film mode which included black and white contrast filter profiles which you could tweak or make your own customer filter profile, that for me was a no no, I usually shoot black and white with my leica and the very reason I didn't buy the Monochrome. the M240 profiles work just like using contrast filters say red, yellow, green without affecting the ISO speed selected. With the monochrome you have to physically mount the contrast filter on the lens then apply the filter factor correction, which depending on the filter can be one stop for yellow #8 or 4 stops with a red #25 which sets your ISO back 4 stops, example ISO 400 to ISO 50. The M10P shoots Black and white at a Yellow green filtration which is great for portraits and people photos, not bad for other subjects but no match to the M240 contrast filter profiles. The M240 in film in film mode gives a more film look to the Jepgs which I like. These benefits are in Jepgs only. The Video capability was removed in the M10 series, to be honest the video was good, you need a tripod but is very good if you were old school trained in video production. Why did I buy a M10P, the WiFi for one makes my workflow much faster, the touch screen saves me time as I can zoom in with touch of a finger to check focus. The M10P's ability to set the fundamentals for exposure, ISO, shutter speed aperture without tuning the camera on . finally the M10P viewfinder is much better. As for my beloved M 240, I managed to find two used batteries two days ago for my M240 , So i will keep using it for a few more years. Cheers. P.S. What colour M10P did you get? I bought the silver chrome, its stunning. looks so retro Leica My 1968 M4 LOL!
@@Van-Wolff 3 weeks later... They no longer sell that battery on their website which sux bcuz I have a Leica M 262 and its battery is dead. Its now a paperweight.
Started with a silver M5 after adapting a 35mm 1:2.8 Summaron, 50mm rigid Summicron and 135mm Hektor to a Nikon 1 V2, then came shortly afterwars a silver chrome M8, a silver chrome M9-P and a M4. I already mixed the digital Ms up with the M4, so there's really no need for a newer camera. I never liked the LED lit framelines.
Matt, you’re killing me! You want, need, and deserve to have the M10-P. It’s Leica’s peak digital M. More than 24 megapixels is superfluous and the dampened shutter (the models can learn) is a major step forward. I have ONE digital Leica, the M10-P. I have three analog, and more than a dozen Leitz/Leica lenses (and a few affordably priced Chinese homages). I’ve had this conversation with Peter Coulson when he was in Geneva. Get the tool that your art calls you to use. Gear doesn’t matter and yet, it matters. Stop faffing about and get the M10-P, sell all the others. Be happy.
Ha thanks James! As mentioned at the end my M10 might become a P so stayed tuned.. but the real kicker, the best took for me is the SL2-S! (The SL still works so I can use that).
Matt, I had a M10 converted to an M10-P two years ago. I must have been lucky as Wetzlar did it with a turn around time, back to Australia, in less than 8 weeks. Hopefully Leitz is still offering this upgrade.
Ha, I just black Sharpie my dot on my M240 (as well as the lens release on the front). I'm guessing the M262 just does "classic" metering? Turning that on and turning off any option for Live View has made my battery on my M240 last for AGES...I don't even worry about battery with the M240.
5:05 I'm surprised some Chinese genius hasn't already developed a “camera sound enhancer”… slip it in the hot shoe and it generates a more-audible noise for each shot for model convenience and photographer reinforcement. Selectable volume, maybe even selectable sound emulation (choose Leica SL, Nikon F, Hasselblad ELM, Graflex Super D…?) Dang, it almost seems plausible… if this appears on Kickstarter next month I'll be kicking myself!
Yes, one might as well enjoy one's camera! So I gather the shutter sound volume cannot be adjusted? (Some camera offer that.). Its good to recognize, as you point out, for those who don't have the $$ for the latest, or later, and greatest, or greater, that one can take absolutely stellar photos with any one of the plethora of much less expensive digital and film cameras available. Being something of camera fanatic, I'd be curious as to your thoughts comparing your 10-P (which I hope you're keeping), and one of your students' M11's.
Leica M's use fully mechanical shutters, so there aren't quieter shutter settings such as electronic front curtain + mechanical back curtain etc. They could incorporate the feature on the later CMOS cameras but I guess they decided it isn't something their users are interested in.
Hehehe I know that feeling. I am in the market for a black M10-P too, so I watched videos and did some research for used M10-P's in Holland, Not many P's so I thought maybe a regular P would be okay Then there are not many black ones either so I thought a silver one would do too. Prices are still high here. So maybe a new M11 would be better in the end. Then I watched e.g. your great pictures with a M240 and my friend Ted Vieira's with his M262. So looking at the used market for those two here in Holland. Rare and expensive so the gap to a used M10 is not that much, so I am back to a M10 hehehehe Does this sound familiar to you too hehehehe Congrats with your new camera and a free mind
Hey Matt, I've currently Lumix S5 II and use manuel Lens M, so i'm looking to get one Leica 10 too, Do you think its overstuff or they Can be cool the duo ? Thanks in advance, continue your vidéo love it 😊
Yes M cameras are much more fun to use and you can use the S5 II when you need a mirrorless (WYSIWYG setup). I use SL + M10 combo (I'll make a video when I can for benefits of each).
Hello, interesting statement you make. I've had the M9-P for 10 years and never found the special thing of it's CCD. Replaced it by a M-P240 for its faster responsiveness and ISO usability. I'm currently satisfied with the M240 generation but the M10-P reporter struck me by it's raw unique appeal, Lucky You, I would not resale it if I were you, it keep its value incredibly. Regards
@@damienphotographe thanks. Do you think the Reporter will gain in value? I love the colours the M9-P produces. Reminds me of a genuine photograph. It's a little quirky and not great in low light. On a summers day, it's my camera of choice no doubt.
M9 are normal until you sell and then you really regret it and realise how special they are. Took me nearly 12 months to like my M240 and I tried to sell it back to Leica twice (I found the emails from 2015!)
Your cameras I would not use, but your models are always great! 😀 (For half-portrait shooting in BW I am using the Sony A7CR (61MP Sensor) with the Voigtländer 58/1.4 Nokton II....)
IIRC, the Q2 & Q3 have better weather resistance than does the Q. Ditto for the SL2, SL2-S, and SL3 over the SL. Aesthetics are not silly to me. I think the M10-P is a lovely looking camera. You not only appreciate its looks on the shelf, but also when it’s in your hands.
I have a Q3 and want a companion camera with interchangeable lenses; somewhat on the fence between digital or film M, and I’m happy getting 90 or 95% of the next level up camera for less $$ which seems to be the case with Leica’s. That said, in the running is currently M262, M10, M6, M7. Lens wise, I’m thinking a Summicron 35mm f/2 (not that latest release) or Voigtlander Ultron 35mm f2 . Any suggestions??
I'm using the Voigtländer 35mm Nokton f1,5 VintageLine and a Zeiss 35mm ZM f1.4. About the same amount of euro's, pounds or dollars as one Summicron but both lenses with different characteristics (pro and con).
Nice. First you need to decide film or digital then decide. I like the M3 & M2 the best but if you need a light meter I get it. I’d get MP in that case..use my recent videos to compare M262 or M10
Thanks so much, the classic M6 and M6TTL and MG all have light meters, correct? Why would you select the MG vs the others? Also, what are your thoughts on the M7?
@@elliotresnick5433 All M6 + M7 & MP have meter. I like less automated so not M7 but others like it. M6 and MP are very similar (new M6s). I don't use my M6
I do not like rangefinder cameras, but both the Leica M10-P and the Leica M Type 262 have the same old sensor as the Leica M Type 240, so I guess most can save a lot of money if they go for the 240.
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom "Newer" that depends the eyes that sees it, most of the time it is minor changes and some software adjustments that makes the "new" sensor, so those three 24 MP is just about the same.
Since my eyesight is not what it was, using a rangefinder is not an option anymore, I have moved from one camera & lens combo to another to try and get my enthusiasm for taking pictures again but with no joy. I miss the rendering colours of my beloved M9 ( or 240) coupled with Summilux 50 / Noctilux. The more I try other brands and combinations the more I am losing interest. The Leica glass I mentioned simply do not look good on Canon, Sony etc. and their colour science is not to my taste😢 Any ideas what combos would give me the equivalent look and feel?
I bought an M10P and returned it and bought an M10 and a voigtlander 40mm f1.2. After all was said and done I still had $700 left over. The only thing i miss about the M10P is the quiet shutter.
Yes i did the same as you probably intend to do :) i made the small upgrade on the M10. And it has kept the louder shutter :) I was thinking, why isn't he thinking of that? Well many people don't know about this option.
This video could be subtitled...A photographer's Angst. I stick to 95% film and 5% digital. In film, there is no endless improvements. Everything has been lnvented already. All you have left to choose is brand, and lenses, snd format. Much easier, but not not always cheaper. If we had only what we need, we would all live in bed sitters, travel by bus and skateboard, and eat gruel three times a day. But we don't. Get what you want and can afford, period!
the M8? /with or w/o a read dot ... after 30 years of work with more than 20 leicas ... Leitz sold me a camera that I could barely make a six page guarantee. Switched to X-Pros and using the same 3 since them, never looked back. These once were tools not toys ...(absolutely one can enjoy at tool. ) This is how Leitz sells camera I guess. Yeah, kept my M4's with the paint worn off ... sold the 6's 7's & 8's for the the X-Pros ...and saved the cash for better things .... too much super mario brothers with the fuji's also ..can't imagine needing to relearn buttons and dots which can loose photographs ... about a dot. Put black graphic tape over Leica and Nikon Logos for safety while I was working. Can't imagine all of this ...
Thanks, yes it’s what you do with a camera that counts but as it’s my full time job now it’s nice to have tools I like using. If I had a Sony/ Fuji etc with full auto I’d need a new professional as I just have zero interest in this.
Yeah, the M10-P is probably the nicest digital Leica M, most faithful to what an M ought to be. I am very happy with my black M10, the red dot does not bother me. The louder shutter sound can be tolerated. My copy is brassing around the edges.
The M240-series is a bit "chubby", but apart from that I see no huge benefit of getting the 24mp M10s. Maybe the slimness of the M10 is enough to justify an upgrade, though.
Better high ISO is the the main reason and others like the quieter shutter, less LV lag too, it's bad on the M240s (see previous few vids that has slides on this).
Thorsten Overgaard mentions the 'gateway drug ' aspect, Matt, you are at the crack-meth-fenta- crop-spray level.. There's nothing like letting off a bit of GAS now and then 😂
Every Leica is the best Leica there is :) In my case it is still the SL (for digital) but you keep on making so many points about the M262 hah, I hope it doesn't go the way it went for me with the SL after all your videos on it 😂🙈
What a dilemma ! I see so many used M10's for sale but very few M262's or even M240's. Maybe when your M10 comes back from Germany sell it and buy the M10-P ?! It seems that the M262/M240 and M10 take very similar photos. Those M262/240's seem to be real 'workhorses as M10 is more finicky . I would like to get the M240 in black to compliment my CL but the USD prices are around 3k which gives me pause.
I dont get how a live view would benefit you in high or low positions as the screen is fixed. If allowed, I think you may have over thought this a tad. The differences are tiny and I cant imagine make any difference at all
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom but that’s the point of a rangefinder, you don’t need a screen If you want critical focus at 1.4 having live view without a tilt screen won’t help you either need to get low or get up and critical focus with your eye Calm me old school but live view only really works well with a tilt screen
It's your money! It's your choice! I would not have replaced at this time.. If it was me, no, NO! I've not added any gear for many years. I saw little need for a new Nikon F2! My F was OK. Years went buy and the Photomic heads were now toast. Using color, I liked a meter, on board. So with F3, now priced used at -$200, I added one. Nikon prices way less than Leica. It's heavy but OK.Yes I love my Film M's. Reality the Nikons and Spotmatics made more money! Leica needed more services and way more expenses!Leica cost me money !Good luck and Enjoy!
Haha I like to keep it interesting for those watching! ;) Jupiter-12, Jupiter-9, TTA28, Skopar28, Elcan. Videos planned for the last 3 mentioned (new ones).
Thank you. That was interesting. It was like listening to a drug addict discussing different grades of heroin. I wish you had briefly mentioned the M10-R. It must fit in there somewhere, e.g. why not an M10-R? Also, do you NOT covet Leica lenses? I would guess not.
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Thank you, Matt. I love your videos and was seriously considering getting a Leica, but not now. It's such a pity. But that's the worst customer service I have ever heard of for a high-value product . What am I saying for any product surely Leica have to be accountable for this. It just seems so bizarre I cant believe it
I mean REALLY if you want a great looking camera to "look at" on the shelf, you're gonna opt for that little shooter on your right at the end of the video. ;-)
It is not correct to compare Q2 with Q3, or SL2 with SL3, since the new versions of these cameras have a 60MP matrix, which was not there before, and along with it the software. That is, for me these are completely different cameras.
I have serious G.A.S when it comes to Leica 🤣 I started with the Safari version of the M-P240 , then got myself the M10-D and finally the Disney version of the Q2 , all which I still own and use , my credit card company must love me 📷📷📷🤣
For a humble man here is the choice: again a real average JOE .... Buy that NEW camera ....again ...pay off for MONTHS ....then " You do not travel " . I have enough crap to lug about for now ... Travel looks better , and as an American .. We have to fly out , not take a train , the costs are high. Travel or Latest toy ? TRAVEL !! 💪🏻
Sounds like your mind is more or less made up here XD You should sell off your m10, just replace the damage leather first. You can easily find pretty well priced kit for this online :) Also, the silent shutter and touch screen (i guess the m10-p has it, as the m10m has it) you can't "fake" on the m10 :) And you know you have the "real" deal. Best of luck mate !
Yes, you are right, shoot with a Leica and you are changed for life. I used a IIIf in HS and it affected me. And as much as I dislike the cultish fanboy stuff about Leica I have to admit I like using them. I have three old ones (8.2, 9, 240) and agree with you that it is not the chisel that makes the sculptor. Good shots can be made with all of them. I think the lenses are maybe more important and my two Brit lenses, Cooke Amatol and Skyllaney Bertele, do it for me. The Cooke for luminosity and the Bertele for great color. But at the end-up it is who is holding the camera that makes the real difference. I can't buy my way out of that problem. Thanks for another great video.
Nice! As mentioned I had to return 1 as couldn’t afford both. When I reach M11/APO riches I’ll try to get a M11-P. Until then I need to keep my head down pumping out videos.

I totally get that. Once you try a Leica nothing else feels the same. Thanks for sharing.
Love the M10P. My dream camera
Super pretty for sure!!
Thanks! Yes plan is to convert my 10 to a P. Stay tuned and I’ll feedback.
Wonderful video Matt! Don't forget the different color rendering of both cameras.
Thanks Jon, I just did a shoot in colour with the 262. I’m blown away! Love it. Coming soon!
Thanks! I’ll convert my 10 to a P. Stay tuned! They are super beautiful so I’m glad you’ve got one too.
Thanks! The Ps are all very nice!
Hi Matt. Thanks for showing the differences between the individual digital Leica M cameras. Congratulations on purchasing the M10-P and have fun with it. By the way, my first Leica M ever is an M10-R Black paint, which is still my favorite camera.
Thanks! The R are very nice too
Hi Matt, I've enjoyed these last few posts of yours, yes particularly because I have similar quirks, no red dot, and Leica script on the top YES PLEASE!
Thanks Derek! Very nice. I need a screen for models otherwise yes. Maybe I need to make a video on this :)
Leica has a way of drawing you in, for me it started with the Q2, then the M11, then the MP, now have 4 Leicas including the Sofort.
It’s so true. The Leica magic gets you!
Also, you know I got a black badge on my 240 :-)
Cool for the black badge and yes it’s weird I like the photos on the older sensor more somehow even though less DR etc!
I quit smoking and treated myself to a pair of voightlander lenses in f mount. What a treat with ilford.
Good for you and fantastic lenses in M or F. I use both.
Good that you quit smoking.
Very nice setup Adam! Dream team for sure!
Dear Matt, I fully agree with your assessment of the different models!! But I enjoy my M10-P every time I use it - mainly for private use and portrait. Better sell the M10 … and btw. I do also the touch screen quite often to review a shot. Best regards from Germany
Thanks, I will convert my M10 to a M10-P and it will have the nice top plate plus touch screen. I will make a video to come.
Matt the king of YT GAS👑🤣
Haha sorry!
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Please don't be. Buy and use them in the best health. All the best
Thanks and yes that would be confusing haha. 1st world problems as they say!
I deliberated for a long time between M-P 240, M10-P, M10-R and M11-P.
In the end, I decided in favour of the M11-P. If I had opted for the M10-P, I would be thinking about it again after a year.
I have the first generation with the M8 and the last generation with the M11-P. I‘m happy
Nice to have first and last yes. My budget won’t stretch to M11-P yet but maybe in a few years.
Please, Matt, please, start a Go Fund Me to continue to feed your unfortunate condition. I fear for your life, sanity and bank balance.
Haha thanks, nice idea. Yes making these videos and doing research causes me GAS and then I end up buying stuff!
Thanks for the heads up Ian! If I was a P I might have been tempted for the right price. Yes we need to use what works for us. Thanks for writing!
All the best with the qualms Mat. ;0)
Thanks Bruno, I’ll explain in another video soon!
Hi. Congratulation for purchasing this beautiful camera. by the way where did you purchase this one? I try in the Internet so many times I didn’t find a new one.
Thanks. I buy used but any online UK shop is good.
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom thank you my friend 🙏
I get it where you are coming from. It happens where you feel you are content with one thing and then you realise you would be happier with the other option. I borrowed and tested a lot of the Leica bodies and I finally chose and made a decision what I wanted and saved up for it for a while. I finally own the M10 and M4-P and I am really satisfied with them, and as they do exactly what I want and do not need to upgrade. Keep the videos coming please. I find them informative and helpful. Actually and to be brutally honest, I look forward to seeing them.
Thanks! The M10 & M4-P makes stunning pair! I use the same in a Thypoch 35mm video ‘3000 photos’ it’s called I think
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Cool, thanks for the info!
Personally I preferred the shutter sound on the M Typ 262! 😊like you mention all down to personal taste and how you shoot!
Yes me too! It’s the little things isn’t it!
Absolutely it’s what helps to make the experience and connection with a camera
I have been holding off on the M11P. I love my M10M and M11M and prefer the colors from my SL cameras so Most likely will not add a color M back into my kit. I think I will just keep shooting color with the SL cameras and monochrom with the M cameras. I use to do this with film. Shot BW on the M's and E100G in my R8.
Great approach Stephen, I look forward to chatting with you soon!
I fully agree baught my M10 P for the same teasons - wonderful camera
Thanks for sharing and yes I can see it’s easy to go full circle. My M photos might be better than my SL photos. I’m undecided
Congrats Matt!!!
Thanks Terry!
Yes it is a nice addition true! Thanks
Leica still sell that battery on their website.

Nice!
Excelente Matt!!
No es mas qte otra magnífica Leica...
Desde las primeras Barnacks hasta estás joyas computarizadas todas son Leicas...
Thanks!
Great tips to make M240 batteries last even longer.
I’ve had an m6, m-p, and 3 m10’s. Currently own a Q3 and it’s easily my favourite
Nice! See next video ;)

I agree, a louder camera is actually better for model portrait photography :) And wow yeah the GAS bug has bit you! haha :)
Thanks for confirming! Good to hear from a fellow model shooter.
Ha nice idea James.. or just use an RZ67 where each click scares the birds away haha.
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom I was thinking Bronica S2A, but those have been known to trigger seismographs...
Yes, you could just get Leica to engrave the top of your M10 while it's in Wetzlar or convert it to an M10P. But if you like the noisier shutter...
Stay tuned, I’ll give the info in a video to come
Yes, one might as well enjoy one's camera!
Thanks! I’ll try to share 10 v 11 in a video soon.
Hehehe I know that feeling.
I am in the market for a black M10-P too, so I watched videos and did some research for used M10-P's in Holland, Not many P's so I thought maybe a regular P would be okay
Then there are not many black ones either so I thought a silver one would do too. Prices are still high here. So maybe a new M11 would be better in the end. Then I watched e.g. your great pictures with a M240 and my friend Ted Vieira's with his M262. So looking at the used market for those two here in Holland. Rare and expensive so the gap to a used M10 is not that much, so I am back to a M10 hehehehe
Does this sound familiar to you too hehehehe
Congrats with your new camera and a free mind
Thanks Rob! Yes exactly, just go round and round precisely as you say! I did all that too. Keep looking!

Do you think its overstuff or they Can be cool the duo ?
Thanks in advance, continue your vidéo love it 😊
Yes M cameras are much more fun to use and you can use the S5 II when you need a mirrorless (WYSIWYG setup). I use SL + M10 combo (I'll make a video when I can for benefits of each).
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom thanks for your feedback, what do you mean by WYSIWIMYG ?
Matt, it’s interesting that an M10 P cost as much as an M10 R. They hold their value!
They sure do! M240s also. Much better than SL series for this. Can’t wait to get mine back but I think early 2025 :(

Just one question About the m 10 p
The meter is spot ... or multi zones?
Center-weighted off the shutter … or multiple-field on the sensor if using Live View.
I see this has already been answered
I am thinking of selling my M10-P Reporter and just keeping my M9-P which has way more character.

@@damienphotographe thanks. Do you think the Reporter will gain in value? I love the colours the M9-P produces. Reminds me of a genuine photograph. It's a little quirky and not great in low light. On a summers day, it's my camera of choice no doubt.
Are you UK based? I could be interested. Message me via MrLeica.com if you want. Yes M9s have more character, M10s better in low light etc
M9 are normal until you sell and then you really regret it and realise how special they are. Took me nearly 12 months to like my M240 and I tried to sell it back to Leica twice (I found the emails from 2015!)

Nice. A Patreon only uses Sony too so I get it. More models soon!
Thanks John, yes for those shooting in the elements W/S is handy. Yes I think it’s important to love our cameras so we use them more.
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom why do you prefer the MG vs the M6 models that have a light meter?
I do not like rangefinder cameras, but both the Leica M10-P and the Leica M Type 262 have the same old sensor as the Leica M Type 240, so I guess most can save a lot of money if they go for the 240.
Thanks. No incorrect, each model has newer sensor, all M240 types, all M10 types etc
Sorry to hear. Use EVF on M240 to get that sensor look.
I bought an M10P and returned it and bought an M10 and a voigtlander 40mm f1.2. After all was said and done I still had $700 left over. The only thing i miss about the M10P is the quiet shutter.
Great! Identical photos and some money in the pocket. That’s why I bought my M10 too originally as a good price.
I know you will return the 262 and keep the M10-P . You will also sell the M10 when it's back. How I know this? Because that's what I would do LOL
Ha thanks, keeping 262, converting 10 to P
Wow! can you actually do this? how much Leica asks for such a conversion?
That’s what you’re thinking right now. In the end you will settle for the M10P. LOL
Yes i did the same as you probably intend to do :) i made the small upgrade on the M10. And it has kept the louder shutter :) I was thinking, why isn't he thinking of that? Well many people don't know about this option.
Great! Yes exactly. 1) it seems not know and 2) that’s my plan exactly. Awesome. Thanks for commenting and coming soon!

Very nice David!
This video could be subtitled...A photographer's Angst.
I stick to 95% film and 5% digital. In film, there is no endless improvements. Everything has been lnvented already. All you have left to choose is brand, and lenses, snd format. Much easier, but not not always cheaper.

I agree though I still enjoy my old Nikon film cameras so brand matters less for film. It’s more the feel and build not the label.
I love that you are laughing yourself trying to convince you that you really need the P for a couple of nonsense reasons…I do the same 😂
Ha thanks. Yes it’s completely stupid yet I’m paying to upgrade to a P. Leica marketing is black magic I think haha.
Yeah, the M10-P is probably the nicest digital Leica M, most faithful to what an M ought to be. I am very happy with my black M10, the red dot does not bother me. The louder shutter sound can be tolerated. My copy is brassing around the edges.
Thanks. I like the M10 brassing, very similar to M4-P, like Chroming!
This was nerdy but good ; )
Ha thanks!
Thorsten Overgaard mentions the 'gateway drug ' aspect,
Matt, you are at the crack-meth-fenta- crop-spray level..
There's nothing like letting off a bit of GAS now and then 😂
Haha thanks John, yes my Q2 video was titled the gateway to Leica. I past have surpassed that now haha
So the 262 is staying
Yep, and after the shoot this morning 100% .. I plan to convert my 10 to a P so I’ll end up with 1 of each (and sell 240)
Every Leica is the best Leica there is :) In my case it is still the SL (for digital) but you keep on making so many points about the M262 hah, I hope it doesn't go the way it went for me with the SL after all your videos on it 😂🙈
Haha the SL is still my workhorse and just makes easy photos!
Thanks! Yes I’ve had great fun with my 262 so far. It just works. Yes I’ll keep you updated once the M10 comes back!
Keep the 262 and the m10p, sell the regular m10 when it comes back.
Almost yes, keeping M262, converting M10 to P
Absolutely love your photos...........................just buy the camera's you want.......were past finding excuses why..........
Thanks Bill!
I dont get how a live view would benefit you in high or low positions as the screen is fixed. If allowed, I think you may have over thought this a tad. The differences are tiny and I cant imagine make any difference at all
It makes a big difference, try holding you camera over you head at arms length and then levitating to look through the viewfinder at that height :)
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom but that’s the point of a rangefinder, you don’t need a screen
If you want critical focus at 1.4 having live view without a tilt screen won’t help you either need to get low or get up and critical focus with your eye
Calm me old school but live view only really works well with a tilt screen
Thanks Jason, yes the Nikon film cameras are great too!
Gotta catch them all
ha thanks!
IDs on the less obvious lenses in this video?
Haha I like to keep it interesting for those watching! ;) Jupiter-12, Jupiter-9, TTA28, Skopar28, Elcan. Videos planned for the last 3 mentioned (new ones).
I’m contused. Which camera did you keep??
M262 and I hope to convert my M10 to a P
Thank you. That was interesting. It was like listening to a drug addict discussing different grades of heroin. I wish you had briefly mentioned the M10-R. It must fit in there somewhere, e.g. why not an M10-R? Also, do you NOT covet Leica lenses? I would guess not.
Ha thanks. I thought it might be entertaining! Sorry I should have mentioned the R. I don’t want 40MP. I use Leica glass too yes.
Full blown GAS! This is like 3 Leicas in the past 4 weeks hahah.
Yes sorry haha, it was a process!
how much you paid for it?😁
It went back.Search in the UK for M10-P, prices are £4500 ish depending on condition
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom not cheap at all
thank you for this interesting comparaison, if you want to separate of the m262 I am interested
:)
Thanks! Possibly once my M10 is back!
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom thank you very much !
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Matt ! I have the opportunity to have a m262 ( in good condition) for 2400e is it as good deal?
thank you in advance
From today on, I'll use MO (the short of your full name) instead of GAS 😅
Haha that’s good, yes I get it bad sometimes!
Why is your m10 in germany for 6 months?
Watch the video a few videos before this one (Red Cross on front), search MrLeica - M10
It just seems so bizarre I cant believe it
I mean REALLY if you want a great looking camera to "look at" on the shelf, you're gonna opt for that little shooter on your right at the end of the video. ;-)
Well said! Love those little BP cameras and I proudly do use those too!
just get the M10-R. Matt :D
Ha thanks, great but I want 24MP! Otherwise yes!
It is not correct to compare Q2 with Q3, or SL2 with SL3, since the new versions of these cameras have a 60MP matrix, which was not there before, and along with it the software. That is, for me these are completely different cameras.
Thanks yes as mentioned I said the Q3 and SL3 are different beasts.
Next week's video: "I Stood Outside the Leica Factory With a Net"
haha I had a funny thought for a next video but I don't think I can create it as too much to act.
M10-P was worth it to me, but I get that you have many cameras to feed and you got to make compromises sometimes!
Thanks for considering..yes I’m across all Leica models so try to cut back when I can!
I have serious G.A.S when it comes to Leica 🤣 I started with the Safari version of the M-P240 , then got myself the M10-D and finally the Disney version of the Q2 , all which I still own and use , my credit card company must love me 📷📷📷🤣
Wow that’s impressive!! Congrats
I bought a Q2 monochrom. Now I have 5 Leicas. You need more cameras.
Haha great! I need more cupboards more like haha :)
For me the only upgrade from the m10 has to be an m11/(future)m12
Hi, yes makes sense for the photo standpoint. New models are usually every 4-5 years.
So much gas Mr Leica is about to float away
Thankfully it’s not every week!
MATT : Send me your extra cash ... I NEED to buy yet another camera to keep up with You. No shame , we all are not made of Pound Sterling .... 🤣
Haha I didn't have the cash for both myself so it was good I returned one!
TRAVEL !! 💪🏻
Wise words Chris. For most people travel or a good model is a better way to spend money.
Holy sh*t! That's pretty.
Right! Glad it’s not just me :)
Sounds like your mind is more or less made up here XD
You should sell off your m10, just replace the damage leather first. You can easily find pretty well priced kit for this online :)
Also, the silent shutter and touch screen (i guess the m10-p has it, as the m10m has it) you can't "fake" on the m10 :)
And you know you have the "real" deal. Best of luck mate !
Thanks! Stay tuned and I’ll explain the conversion plan soon
Thanks Sandy! Yes lenses matter too 100%
Holy smokes
Ha thanks
I wish I had your money ! to buy a m11 with 35 mm apo lens
Nice! As mentioned I had to return 1 as couldn’t afford both. When I reach M11/APO riches I’ll try to get a M11-P. Until then I need to keep my head down pumping out videos.
