    Woo! Sam finally made this video! Is this our last from Osaka then? Otsukaresama bro.. I love how you made this.
    Pretentious sounding comment starts in 3..2..1..
    The struggle is very real for people who know they want a digital M body. This is no joke. The cameras are expensive, but our love for cameras match a desire to have something that fits our shooting style. As a long time and still Fuji shooter too, one doesn't just say "just get a Fuji" or the like. Not everyone wants the digital automatic do everything technological powerhouse. A lot of times, all that stuff gets in the way. AND at the same time, one has to find a balance in digital tech vs. analog mechanics. Different tools for different jobs. This is a whole video.. But experiencing these different tools given the opportunity is a great privilege to have in life. And you really only live once so follow your brain, heart, wallet, responsibilities etc..but most importantly, stay humble about it!

    As a M262 user, this was a very fun but useful video ;-) You pointed out exactly the two bottlenecks of the 262 I also encounter: high iso/dynamic range limitations and buffer capacity. Good to hear the M10 solves those, which makes it a great upgrade when I'm ready to get a second body.

    Older typewriter analogy is spot on. My M262 locks up if I get carried away but I just gotta know that it isn’t the tool for that. Great video, guys! Maybe I’ll switch out my current body to the M10 when M11 releases.

    Good review from from both of view. I agree with your statements. M-E 240 shooter here, but if I would take night shots (which I don't), I would have saved for the M10, too. Rarely shoot at higher ISO, normally stay between ISO 200-800. I never used the M10, but it seems that the M10 looks less film-like regarding coloration with in-camera JPG than the M 240 / M 262 series (I always shoot RAW+JPG). One big difference between M 240 and M10 is in the optional external EVF if needed - the VF-2 for the M 240 / M 262 costs less than half what the new Viscoflex for the M10 goes for. No way I would ever trade an exchangeable lens M-camera body for a fixed lens Q-body even I often use 28 mm.

    Great video. Nicely done. I love my M10. I had the M240P and I loved that, too. I like the moveable focus point on the M10 but like the battery life better on the M240. The size of the cameras didn't matter that much to me. Either camera is great.

    "User Experience" I think is important because it is what leads one to grab that specific camera when they go out to just shoot. I shot on a beat up M2 in my film days and since then the only camera that gave a similar feeling of enjoyment, user experience (shoot, wait and develop, learn & enjoy), was the my M-D Typ 262. It is basically a digital M2. I've tried the MD version of the M10 for a week as well as M10. They are very nice cameras! Slimmer, better viewfinder but there is wi-fi and other tech in M10 versions that take away from the simple shooting experience of the 262 I enjoy. I still hem and haw over the M10 versions and the Q2 but the user experience the MD 262 always wins out (by a nose).
    That's just me,. User experience is a very selective personal choice. Can't wait to see yours!

    Oh my... that cliffhanger, I'm always wondering what might be your next camera. I honestly think that your approach to buying and using cameras as just tools is really good, I understand the attachment to a ceirtan model but not the attachment to a brand, you gotta look for what is best for you an your work. That said, I'm still a leica fanboy and I dream of the day I can afford one hahahaha.
    Keep it up!

    I own M240 which has the same sensor as your ex-M262. I like the colour of photos which M240 produces and the black paint body which I really love; exposing brass golden colour from the edges. M10 must be nice for night time shooting and Leica Q must be nice too! Enjoy your new camera and I believe you may come back to "Leica M system" near future ;-)

    I am a Leica shooter (50 years
    old and I shot them all ;) The M series is like riding a horse for transportation. When being of road a lot it sure is a great experience... But WHEN YOU'RE PICKY: Lines/banding in your digital files at that price??? Come on leica... The Q line with exchangeable lenses would be having a bit the best of both worlds. The M used to be the best system when everything was manual and mechanical. Now it is the best experience for taking specific kind of pictures. Unfortunately it is not the best camera anymore 😢
    Great Leica shooting everybody. You may not hold the best camera but you definitely will have the most fun and value your gear the most 😁👌🏼

    I feel your struggle there, I got M10 and X-Pro3...I love the M10 but X-Pro3 is nice, reliable and durable, I can literally abuse it in the rain or snow or dusty and it won't be any problem and I'm not even feel worried about it. I can't definitely do that with the M10 because it's expensive, although I believe it's just as durable or even more.
    The funny thing is I also have M2 which I have it for almost 2 years now. It's expensive compare to other film camera but I feel like I can use it without worry too. I feel the M2 just built differently compare to the M10 and will last way longer.
    So I guess the wiser choice would be keep film M and shoot digital with more modern mirrorless like Fuji. Yeah it's crop BUT the sensor performance (ISO, DR, dll) on the X-Pro3 knocks M10 out of the park!

      Hi Kyo! Nice opinion. Tbh I disagree wholeheartedly due to years of experience with the current Fuji sensor seen in XT3, X100V, XPro 3 etc. All of which I owned. X100V I still own. The point is, the older M10 still blows that newer apsc sensor out of the water. In every way. I really will be making a video about this proving it so I hope we can continue this discussion later! ;) Cheers.

      I've got a 262 and I have tried all the fujis. The big difference for me is the manual focusing experience and the simplicity of setting up a focus zone for street shooting on the rangefinder is far superior to the electronic method on the fujis. For me personally it is huge. However there are lots of pros on the xpro3 side, and I'm still having doubts. First world problems but it is our money that we sweat for so need to make it count, especially when putting it towards something we are passionate about (as Alex says in the vid). If Fuji made a real rangefinder xpro it would be all over red rover.

      @@Zonefocus-SteveDimitriadis I completely agree and have been saying I want an all manual Fuji XPro camera for a long time too. If they did that, jeez.. so many people would get butt hurt and say Fuji is dumb, but the real ones would understand 100% and be thrilled to have that option.

    • @Zonefocus-SteveDimitriadis
      @Zonefocus-SteveDimitriadis 2 года назад +1

      @@AlexOnStreets yes Alex I would jump on that in a heartbeat. It’s more than the focusing patch. It’s the combination of the lens with the mechanical focus, the focus throw, the muscle memory of knowing where the different focusing distances are by feel, and the consistency of that combo to know that at certain aperture and distance combos it will always be right on (calibration assumed).

    • @ufukkiblat
      @ufukkiblat 2 года назад +3

      @@AlexOnStreets Hi Alex, thanks for giving me your opinion and will be interesting if you can do comparison but I stand by my own.
      I think you start with Fuji and later added M10 so I can understand that. I’ve been using Leica since M9, M-P240 and finally M10. Only recently I got to try Fuji and can’t believe I’m missing out..
      Manual focus with rangefinder is nice…yes, and that is probably the only reason why I still have the M10, because Leica is unbeatable in terms of usability. But image quality, I don’t think average people will be able to tell the difference to be honest. Especially if you shoot film.
      I’m not pixel peeper and never really did comparison side by side but high ISO on the Fuji is incredible for a crop sensor, I can go to up to 12000 ISO and can still have usable images…While on Leica M, your choice is pretty much M10 if you wanna do high ISO and the difference on the price is really significant.
      Color science? I don’t really care because I shoot in RAW/DNG and will always edit out all my pictures anyway.

    Had I been starting with the M system today, this would be a very useful video. Well-done! The color science difference is quite noticeable, but more important, the M10’s high ISO performance would be the decisive factor. I often shoot in low light, when being able to shoot clean images at ISO 3200 is important.

      The problem with comparing the QP to the M system cameras is at that point you're talking about features and topics completely unrelated to the direct comparison of the two M bodies. Not all Leicas are the same, obviously, but the Q system is such a departure from the M262 and M10. Definitely worth a separate video though! ;)

    Thanks for another great video. All generations of digital Leica cameras are unique in that you can't go wrong with any of them. I agree that Leica m10 hits the sweet spot with neutral colors, right amount of mega pixels, and more than capable iso range. Then ccd sensor of m9 makes it difficult to let go of that camera. Just pick the one that suits your need.

    Yeah, the 262 colour signature was a clear improvement over that of the 240. Although the M10 has many mechanical and electronic improvements, it is still within the same chapter of imaging aesthetic as the 262, so in that sense they are related, despite the 240 being almost identical in hardware.

    262 all the way for me. No live view, all rangefinder, it has integrity in design. As soon as you start staring at a screen for composition, you alienate yourself from the rangefinder experience. Also I don't like the ISO dial on the M10/11, handling matters a lot to me. Lastly the thicker body of the Typ 262, and lower weight, is more comfortable over a day's shooting. Battery life, the 262 never quits. It's a more pure stills camera experience and thus, I think you'll become a better rangefinder shooter using the 262 vs. the M10. I don't care anything about cost, everyone forgets about cost immediately after you get the camera, but you don't forget what its like to shoot with the camera on a daily.
    When it comes to image quality, don't use the push settings and you'll be fine. 200-3,200 ISO the camera is fantastic. I always have a rule to keep to the lowest ISO possible for the desired outcome, and that varies, but with a M and the kind of shooting you are doing, it's almost unnecessary to ever go above 800 ISO unless you have a very slow lens attached. I've shot hand held up to 1/2 second exposures at dusk and dawn frequently, and for night shots on streets, 800 is fantastic for getting your shutter speed high enough since you are exposing for street light illumination anyways (you can push shadows greatly on the 262 if needed in post).

      Totally agree, the 262 is all I ever needed from a Leica camera, I love shooting with it. With fast lenses ISO 2500 is more than enough and 3200 is also totally fine, especially for web and small prints. I do use other modern cameras when AF, video and quickness is required (Canon RF system for work) but at the end of the day grabbing an 262 is just pure relaxation and joy.

    I can't see a significant difference in dynamic range on-line, but that isn't saying much. I have a small screen Apple laptop. It's a Retina display though it's rather small. Then again, I'm an M Type 262 shooter so maybe I don't want to see the difference. LOL Great video! Thank you.

    I had an M8 before I got my 262 in 2018. And yes I hated that the 262 was delayed, I’d miss shots because of the delay start up in the streets. Kind of miss my M8 for on the fly shooting

    I’m still in the honeymoon phase with my Leicas. I enjoy the whole process, even the struggles. But to compare to what I know, I need an emotional connection to the camera: this is why I enjoy going out shooting with my OG Canon 6d more than with the Canon R5.

    Nice comparison of personal experience in leica cameras m series but like you've said it is expensive the leica m10 it is not worth it to upgrade but the features are great than leica typ 262. At the end it is all about your personal choice or decision to make and feel about it. Leica Q2 is also a great fullframe compact camera but it is also expensive but have a lens in it compare to leica m10 body only. But Samuel if I were you I'm stick to your leica m typ 262 than m10, but maybe if m10 drops the price it is worth the upgrade but now I don't think it is worth it if you don't want and have money to spend for it.

    I prefer the 240. owned 2 m10 (black and silver) and sold them. The m10 just did not give me much of a benefit. I disliked the iso dial on the m10 especially. First thought it looked cool but changing iso on the fly is so much easier on the m240. Size and weight they are different but not enough to make it a big deal. Oh sure battery life is strong on the m240. With the m11 (or whatever the next iteration will be named) coming soon I would definitely go for the the m240 now because resell value is better if you want to upgrade later.

    I found the solution for the buffer... Bought the M-E (typ240) with 2Gb, brand new by 3300€, with a plus, only 750 units were made and the body colour is amazing with real leather for the cover.
    Regarding the 28mm lines, I think it´s easier to see on the M240 than on the M10, probably due the 0.68 vs 0.73.
    Now, if Leica take the decision to put the sensor from the SL2-S on the M11, will be the perfect camera. But probably won´t happen.

    17:37 I think the Nikon Z 7 I have will be the one I keep for a long time (had it since Oct 2018 so far). It's bigger than these small Leica cameras, but the images are outstanding. The last camera that I felt so good about in the past was the D700...but yes, that's a large camera and not a 'street' camera. I might argue (if you had a small fast aperture lens available), the Z fc is an awesome camera because it's small and has great image quality.

    • @Renzsu
      @Renzsu 2 года назад

      It's definitely a street camera, just use a small lens. A 35mm Color-Skopar or something makes it quite compact. I got a Z6 a while ago, loving it so far. Paired it with a Summilux 50 Asph that I couldn't ignore. The photos I get from it are just fantastic.

    The pre-M10 Leica M camera, that does well at high ISO, is the M Type 246 Monochrom, which performs at high ISO, in low light, as well or better than the M10. When my M10 was damaged, and down, pending being repaired, I acquired a locally-available, well-preserved, pre-owned Type 246 Monochrom, and was immediately impressed with it. The two cameras can be a good “team,” with the viewfinder being most noticeable, and the size difference being quite very minor. The subtle external differences provide tactile clues/reminders as to which camera is in my hands. Battery life favors the older 240/246/262 cameras.

    I thought exactly about this comparison before I bought my M6. M10 is too expensive and the current Fuji generation is a better digital camera than the M262. I would always feel like I wasn't getting the best quality if I had the 262. Now I have the M6 and think why did I even care about the image quality. 😆 thank you for the video that has clarified some questions. now I want a M-D 😅

    Didn’t know I needed this video but I’m considering going down to a m240 from my m10 since I’m starting to realize that I don’t really shoot in dark condition where I would need a high iso. I also impulsively bought a x100v and have been picking it up more and more.

    Jungs, warum diese Leicadotabkleberei? Seid doch stolz drauf, eine Leica zu haben! Man klebt doch auch ned bei nem 911er das Porschewappen ab... vor allem weils nix bringt, weil jeder weiß dass es ne Porsche ist. Und bei Leica das selbe... Wenn ich könnte, würde ich bei meiner Q den Dot als Rote Blinki-LED machen! ;) Wenn man was erreicht hat, darf man drauf Stolz sein. Und die Abkleberei ist für mich sogar mehr "Angeberei" als ihn offensichtlich zu lassen.
    Abgesehen davon ein sehr interessantes Video, keine Brick-Wall-Distortion-Fotografiererei, einfach und simpel. Hat SPaß gemacht zu sehen :)

  • @-grey
    @-grey 2 года назад

    The 262 looks a little more magenta shifted compared to the M10 green shift, but it's so minor it could just be the lenses. At most, it's contributing to the M10's narrowly more desaturated look. That's all I can tell from the old youtube screen here. Also,I have never used a camera with a colour accurate screen, so I bet the M10 if you got used to it would probably be off in tint, contrast, and saturation too.
    This was interesting to me because I'm pretty tired of my Fujifilm colours, and I have been wondering about what is over the fence. Nikon looks the most natural and rich to me, Canon in general can look just as gimmicky as Fujifilm to me, but the RP and R6 look the most natural and rich to my eye. If I wasn't poor maybe I would buy a new camera, until then I will whine about it.
