I love that you stated that you just moved in last week and everything is set up already. That's part of the beauty of having less. I have family members that just moved into their large 3- bedroom, 2 bath apartment several weeks ago. Yet, there is still clutter everywhere - more boxes to unpack, and lots of items in a storage area. They still plan on paying for a pricey storage unit every month. The clutter is causing the family stress and anxiety, especially after coming home from a hard day's work. They are talking about getting rid of only a few things. Then they talk all over top of me when I gently invite them to consider minimalism or they assume they're doing it. No, they're not. I stopped wasting my breath. Of course they're speaking of giving things to me. Please don't.
I think it's a great minimalist example. No one can say what is considered minimalism for another person. Congrats on being so close go finishing school and your travel nurse goal is wonderful.
Your apartment is so perfectly balanced! Not too minimalist where you find yourself needing something you don't have, and yet still minimalist enough that you don't have anything that doesn't serve a purpose, whether that purpose be practical, sentimental or stylish. For example, you don't have to worry about needing to go to the store all the time with your backup toiletries, yet you don't have anything that takes up space or you won't use. I strive to be as balanced as you :)
Can you do a video on minimalism in college like school supplies, what you really need to bring, clothing wise, kitchen wise etc I'm transferring from a cc to a university I'll be in a university apartment with roommates trying to figure out what to bring lol also a video on your photography and what equipment you use would be cool. to me the whole point of minimalism is having items you really need OR really enjoy having. This can be a painting, a book collection or an awesome rug. Who cares? Its about not buying stuff just because everyone else has it and eventually let it collect dust and add to the pile of clutter. Its about what makes you happy and not about what anyone else thinks. If you dont like a minimalistic lifestyle thats fine too. But i do agree that its a simplified life and helps put your mind at ease. I like your appartment!
There are a lot of minimalists with large families, i'm sure you can bring that lifestyle to them as a try out maybe and see what happens? it might make it easier to clean and might boost everyone's mood and increases productivity :)

Very nice, Janell, although I would like to give you a suggestion for your living-dinning space, and it is to move your table more into the center of the space because having the couch and table in the same wall makes one side look a bit cramped while the other totally bare. I think moving it more into the center would make it look nicer and with better distribution. Hope you give it a go. :)
I actually did it this way at first, but I have the empty space now for yoga. It's not as aesthetically pleasing but more functional for me, plenty of room for me stretch out and roll around lol :)
I like your take on minimalism. Less clutter, very organized and not ridiculously extreme and try hard like other people that are minimalist. Simple things like hanging the broom, putting appliances away or hiding the trash bin were good ideas. Keep it up ☺️

you will need to be careful sleeping on a mattress on the floor to frequently stand it up and let the floor and matress air out or mould will grow. thats why we have bed frames to start with.
More importantly if you hate bugs you will get many more things possibly crawling up on that mattress than if the mattress was on a simple $50 bedframe. And besides that the floor is the dirtiest part of a house so by sleeping so close to it you are picking up those things like dander and dust that are on the floor and breathing those in. Not as healthy as using a bed frame I totally agree!
I'm really glad you posted this. That kitchen is ideal. Too often I find myself with more than I can store in a kitchen since apartment kitchens are pretty small.

I think your minimalism is just fine; it's different for everyone. The only thing I have a comment about is keeping the toilet scrubber in the cabinet; I feel like it harbors more bacteria that way and contaminates the other things stored down there.

I love her ideas, some have even inspired me, but I need a bed not a mattress as I suffer with painful back & damaged both my knees from a severe fall. I believe there are different levels of minimalism that should be accepted. Living a true minimalist lifestyle is very clinical & cold. My husband & I find the people who live with the bare basics & everything is white & bare often have no personality & very snobbish as if their idea is the very best way to live. They are usually very boring ppl with high opinions of themselves. This lady here is very real & honest, and I really love some of her ideas. 🤗💕

Kaite Simons When you think of a student studying whilst out of home, their belongings would be minimal due to lack of money. The amount she has for her situation is normal, not minimal
Personally I consider it minimalist for me, especially compared to the living spaces of my friends/co workers/family and what I use to own. I can see how others in less materialistic and hoarding situations would see it as normal, I wish is was more of the norm here. I'm still working on it. However I am financially independent (thanks to student loans and working two+ jobs my entire college career) and I don't think it would be correct to assume that having less income equates to having less possessions. Hoarding onto items and your income level doesn't necessarily have to correlate. My first three years of school were MUCH more of a struggle for me financially than the last six months have been, and I owned WAY more stuff then.
I would also consider this minimalist. She may not be a person who only owns 20 things in total but it seems like what she has is there for a purpose, which to me, is minimalism. When I lived on my own I definitely had MANY more items than she does and many people I know own many more things than what was shown in this video. Most of the people I've known who have limited funds, unless they're extremely financially adept, have much more random "crap" than their more financially stable counterparts. :)
As a 4th year student, I have always found minimalism to be appealing. My girlfriends lifestyle was much closer to the place in the video but my own living space and that of almost every other person I have visited in University was FAR from the apartment in the video. I don't mean to be rude but your comment was an assumption and is the furthest thing from the truth.

I have the same folding tray! Right now I keep my headphones on it and sometimes a drink and my phone. My room is kinda cluttered rn. I'm a sophomore in highschool and hope to have a nice minimalistic apartment in college. c:

My apartment looks like this except for I live with my boyfriend, so plus his clothes. We don't consider ourselves minimalists, but we definitely works with a lot less than all of our friends.

looking at this feel that there so much wasted space not in a bad way towards you. I kinda wish there were places that had functioning small living spaces. Cause I am never home but when I am I'd like "cook" and do my laundry and sleep. I hate using public laundry mat so I feel that your closets could be a perfect place for laundry area.

I like the idea but you have to re organize your set up cause instead of looking like your minimalist, your place looks like in complete like you just moved in, may i suggest so accent so that your appartment will look complete but still extremely minimal. Cheers

im not questioning your decision or anything but i think keeping the broom/cleaning stuff separately from your food supply from the pantry would be a lot be better.

minimalism differs from ppl to ppl. I feel like some of you who are being negative want her to be extreme. omg she owns more than one cup. the horror.
Now this is HEALTHY minimalism. Some minimalists that own 5 items seem to have an extreme OCD issue to me personally.

possible solution: cover mattress in plastic. cover plastic with washable cover. wash once a week.

I have the same folding tray! Right now I keep my headphones on it and sometimes a drink and my phone. My room is kinda cluttered rn. I'm a sophomore in highschool and hope to have a nice minimalistic apartment in college. c:

My apartment looks like this except for I live with my boyfriend, so plus his clothes. We don't consider ourselves minimalists, but we definitely works with a lot less than all of our friends.

looking at this feel that there so much wasted space not in a bad way towards you. I kinda wish there were places that had functioning small living spaces. Cause I am never home but when I am I'd like "cook" and do my laundry and sleep. I hate using public laundry mat so I feel that your closets could be a perfect place for laundry area.
I used to work 2 full time jobs, I recently quit my second job and embraced minimalism and live better with one ok paying job.

I had a feeling you were from Texas then that HEB bag confirmed it haha. Ive been a minimalist here in San Antonio for 3 years and have a somewhat similar set up but in a guy version.
I like the idea but you have to re organize your set up cause instead of looking like your minimalist, your place looks like in complete like you just moved in, may i suggest so accent so that your appartment will look complete but still extremely minimal. Cheers

im not questioning your decision or anything but i think keeping the broom/cleaning stuff separately from your food supply from the pantry would be a lot be better.

It's a Millard trifold mattress from amazon and I just bought a Zinus smart base bed frame from there too :) So far I'm happy with both
