that door story is probably the best car story i've ever heard. incredible
Reminded me of aviator Richard Bach's amazing finding-just-the-incredibly-rare-part-needed repair story about when he was barnstorming in a quite rare 1920s biplane in the American Midwest in the1960s: www.67notout.com/2010/12/richard-bach-biplane-coincidence.html Cheers.
How about finding your deceased Grandfathers Model "T" Club of America membership card inside of a T Manual while buying a "T" for your Grandfather in law? That happened to my brother. He must have meet the previous owner at one time.
Definitely supernatural activity of some sort going on there. Amazing.
back in the 80's I was fixing up a 67 Mustang and at the junkyard I found a doorlock that fit my door key, the odds are , who knows how high.
radioguy1620 Very Cool!
This guy look looks 18 years old but has the model-T knowledge and demeanor of an old timer.
Yup, flair galore, knows his stuff, he's old school cool.
and 3 kids
you sir need glasses
That's the perk of living in the era of the internet. Everyone can study anything, quite effortlessly.
In the age of information, ignorance is a choice.
What I like about this kid is he didn't act like a star struck fan. He talked to Jay, and Jay talked to him like a couple of gear heads about a car project.
jayebyrd00 he's 32, not a kid lol
Of course, man, they _are_ a couple of gear heads talking about a car project :-D
That's what it's all about.
I was gonna say, where does Jay find these ultra intelligent guys with so much personality and charisma. Wow! This guy could have hosted his own car channel.
Best conversation of all the episodes !!!
Coolest young guest ever. 🤜🤛
One of the top 3 videos of Jay's garage. I love to see these young men with old souls. Clayton's children are very blessed to have such a father. Thank you Jay.
in 100 years, Jay will be more famous for his garage than for the tonight show....
Greg Collins Hollywood is pure degenerate trash that has no place in a grown man's life
Mike Cernovich that's correct
Greg Collins in 100 years? It's already more famous.
If in a 100 years the Enviroweenies has us back on horseback, Jay Leno will be King because of all the working steam engines he has that work and more knowledge of them than any one else
to gearheads maybe
Surprised Jay hasn’t had this guest back with his wife’s build. This was one of the best episodes.
jay west Thank you kindly! Jay had him back on the TV show, this season in the episode “hard work pays off” featuring a 1927 Buick Master 6 he restored.
1.5 years later, I believe this is still my favorite Jay Leno Garage episode.
The guest here is probably the smartest guest that Jay has ever had on. He knows just about every fact and figure about the Model T and the history.
Yes it’s the best chat about cars with 2 knowledgable guys
Mine too. When I bought my property I found an old brass air pump, some rusty wrenches, car jack, and oogah horn. I didn’t realize they were all related till I bought my ‘26 Model T, and found that they were the Model T tool kit.
4 years later, I've watched it 3 or 4 times, still about the best video of a true hot rod and hot rodder.
@@duane4972 lol, you have me watching the entire episode again. Thanks for the reminder, Duane!
Here I am again, prob my 5th time. Each time I have a smile on my face the whole time. It is so nice to see Jay just listening intently and genuinely to Clayton, and also to see the admiration in Claytons eyes when Jay talks. What a blend of car generations. I wish Jay would have him back. Thank you for this. Cheers
He had him back on his TV show in the episode “hard work pays off”
@@juliap9277 hmmn tks ill have to see where i can find that ill google it
@@juliap9277 thanks Julia I just paid the 1.99 , was looking forward to seeing Clayton again. Cheers
I love the composure, maturity, and knowledge this kid has. Clone him about 200 million times and this country may have a chance.
if only
"This kid" must be in his thirties haha :D
He has a 15 year old. He is probably pushing 40
Bob Marley
I'll be pushing daisies soon enough, he's a kid.
+Bob Marley He's 32, they are his step babies 😉 But he's been a car expert since age 3.
I personally find these old cars videos much more interesting than the crazy fast new ones.
Tiago de Pádua same here. I could actually own this, unlike a Ferrari or a Lamborghini.
Yeah me too. All the new fast car's videos talk about is carbon this, aerodynamics that, efficiency, speed, yadda yadda yadda. These old cars have history.
same tthing classic / first American cars rule keep collecting
These cars and owners together just have way more personality and character..
i recommend the race of gentlemen for you then
This is really a good example of commitment and genuine mindful thinking of having fun on a budget. Great job. And the door story makes even more lovable.
This was, without a doubt, one of the most enjoyable episodes on Jay's Garage .
The screen chemistry between those was contagious. I could watch them drive all the way across america and it'd never get old.
Clayton sure knows his stuff. The communication between Clayton and Jay made this episode one of the best I have viewed!!
they did indeed gel well
They should pair up and and be a consultant for "random" "complications"
Clayton's knowledge far exceeds his age.
October 30th One word, awesome.
I think it is Jay’s best episode too!
"12 speeds forward...and 6 in reverse and I've shifted in reverse "....way to go kid !
I like Jay, he's not a hot rod snob, no bad attitude, just a nice guy, this kid put a lot of work into his car, and he should be proud, and Jay treated him great. Good job jay, love ya man!
What do I think? I think Clayton has distilled the American experience of the twentieth century into a single car. Industry, mobility and the resulting freedom, self-sufficiency and individual initiative, plus character and a little bit of style. Ken Burns could hardly have done better with a half-hour history lesson. Congratulations, and thanks to Jay for recognizing a special car and talent.
f*cking this right here. Well said--couldn't agree more.
Exactly. There is something about that car that is different than any other.
I would argue that Henry Ford did that...
absolutely!
Very nicely put pal. Couldn't agree more.
This episode just re-inforced my opinion of Jay Leno. I think Jay is truly an average Joe that just happens to have a lot more money to do things than I do. That doesn't take away anything from Jay. I love Jay Leno and the fact that he has a passion that we all share. He wants to share with us the things he has been blessed with. You can't ask anybody to do more than he does for us. He is a good guy and we need more good guys in the world.
Agree.
yup. would love to meet the guy, he makes some cool videos, always seems nice
+1 Jay is awesome! Glad to have youTube so I can spend time with him again LOL
Hmmmm, what would Conan say?
Conan would cry, as usual
This show is the highlight of his career. In terms of amazing content and doing what he loves. This is what the new generation doesnt have. A stand up guy with good values
You’re talking about Jay Leno? This is a joke, right?
This episode inspired me to start looking, and get one of these cars. I'm 77. When I was a young teenager I was fascinated by what I called Old Time cars. I pressured my dad, and he and I hunted around in Wisconsin and somewhere in Tennessee, and never came back with one. Thank you, Jay, for the affectionate review; it's never too late.
I love how Jay won't pay $500 for the OEM belt and gets a $15 one which will do the same job what a legend
something tells me he went ahead and paid the $500. he likes his cars to look proper.
+john smith I think he said he paid the $15 if I remember correctly? I wouldn't mind either choice the cheap one if it does the same job why not the expensive one for authenticity either or no wrong decision I'm a nut about my car and won't shy away from spending decent money if it's the better item
He actually wasn't clear on which one he bought. He just told him the cost of both.
+john smith watch the Bugatti episodes. Jay makes it clear he went with the local cheap option.
Being good for 350.000.000$ that i pretty cheap of him lol
Yup I vote for more of these types of budget builder episodes. The exotic cars are cool too, but more of this type of video is my preference.
You really need to coke check us out then. Exactly what you are looking for
Yep!! Very cool. That front end conversion was a good idea. It tracked very straight
Amen! This and the 1964 Honda S600 Hot Rod are my two favorite Jay Leno Garage videos. ...well, that is unless you could bring back the old video from the archives of the early 20's green W.O. Bentley with the round tail. The audio of starting it up and hearing the overrun while driving was the best.
Cars people can actually relate too agreed
Yeah and they owner did a great job presenting the car and being entertaining
Turns out this is actually Jays kid, from that weekend he did his stand up show in that bar in Portland all those years ago.
loved the star trek reference...until tuesday =)
Somewhere in the heavens I'm sure Henry Ford grins from ear to ear whenever someone points out how many Model Ts are still around nearing a century later. Engineering and quality is timeless.
Nah its a t. No one would keep a 1986 commodore.
Where in heaven, what exit he tooked,,when he was transfered?
@@elcabezon5487 Pearly gates pass after that I have no clue.
Yes the t and a are great cars but the newer stuff is crap
The kid and the car have a lot of personality.

AlexCoronaPhoto
It depends on the age YOU are .... I'm 67 .... And he is a "Kid" to me ..... Love them whatever age they are ..... :)
@@alexcorona when they live at home until they are 30, yes they are kids.
Of the hundreds of episodes i've watched all these years i think this is probably the one that made me apreciate and want to have the car showed more.
When somebody finds their passion, it really shows. These informal videos where Jay is chatting with another car guy are the very best!
Jay is a class act; always has been. Most older car guys would have talked down to someone like Clay. He knows his stuff; and Jay never contradicted him; and respected his knowledge; despite his young age; and maybe saw Clay as a version of his younger self. Clayton defiantly has my respect. I'm 54; with way more means than he has; but no where near the balls to just do it like he has.
The kid is more wiser than his years. Somebody needs to pick up the torch of car wisdom when Jay does retire. I do believe that Jay will die underneath a car that he was working on.
James me too.Thanks...
@@jonathansparks7558 I know I'd prefer a Mechanic's Creeper to a deathbed :p
@@dreadpenguinlord340 ain't that the truth
My Grampa told me so many stories about hopping up the Model T's in the 30's and 40's. They used Rajo (sp?) heads, Winfield carburetors, Ruckstal rear ends, etc. They would channel the bodies over the frames, etc. He used to tell a story about the Constable in Long Beach who couldn't catch their hopped up t's in his patrol car (I think it was a Dodge). Well, one day he got a Ford V8 and said "now I can catch you guys". Well they baited him into chasing them and he wouldn't give up and blew the engine in his car. My Grampa and a buddy held a speed record at the Muroc Dry Lake for Model t's for awhile. Good Stuff!
This Clayton Patterson practically a genius .He knows ;when something is done right ,It Never gets old !
I'm not even a car guy, but I probably have watched more Jay Leno's Garage than Tonight show. Saw Jay in person once, great comedian, but you can see this is his real passion.
Jay should consider this young man to fulfill his role in the garage, when he is ready to retire. Very talented
And intelligent. He is one of a very few guest that Jay didn't constantly interrupt and/or talk over. He actually held Jay's attention. No offense Jay ( but you do). I just was impressed with this video.
MWL3 hupmovle antiguos
Yes. And he should leave by the side of the road that non-stop giggling girl with the AZ car who came on the show half naked.
@@normanduke8855 which episode is that lol
@@normanduke8855 Half naked ?? all i could see was a pretty young lady who had the temerity to show uncovered arms . I thought the right to bare arms was a thing in the US ?? Go back to the Quaker Community mate ............
@@PhilipKerry Let him speak his 'conservatism', otherwise he'll get offended
This is one of the few guys that came to the show that was actually great to listen to and didn't make you want to fall asleep half way through.
Another reason why Jay's channel is the best car show in tow. This kid's T model story is by far, more interesting than some a rapper explaining a subwoofer in his McLaren.
This engine sound is music to my ears!
I love Clayton's spirit and passion for life and automobiles. Thanks for having him, Jay!
Now 88 - But I Loved it. Driving my 1921 T original to school was a joy in 1945, so buying it for 50.00 but going into the service in 1946 sold it for 75.00. I've never gotten over feeling so bad for not keeping it.
Glenn de la Motte you should track it down
Hope you're still kicking on Glenn...God bless!
Glen I think we all have had a car story like that lol
Every car guy has one or more of those I never should have sold its. I've had to many of those. But I also remember all the fun I had.
Get another one man
It is a real spiritual build Jay. There is a bond between Clayton and the car, he resurrected it back from the dead,it's almost like it's his child, he gave birth to it. Nice job and nice car, exciting to say the least. Thanks Jay!
This video is over 3yrs old but it is still my favourite.
Jay, you should have more cars and owners like these on your show! I especially love it when the owner knows what the heck he or she's talking about! Anyone have deep pocket can buy a flashy car and tell you stuff from the catalog, but not a lot of owners can tell you how he or she builds it.
Clayton Paddison is a rock solid human being, who stayed true to his passions his entire life. Three thumbs up.
I love how he called it bulletproof as he has a bullet hole in the door
the thing just has a rugged beauty, it's great to see something so awesome also accessible to enthusiasts of differing budgets
it makes me think of the wild west for some reason
and he was your fucking neighboor! and he had the doors that came with your car!? my God I'm seriously like blown away
You put the boor in neighboor.
I had something similar to this happen but with a Nintendo NES Top Loader and a copy of Dr. Mario. Both the system and game cartridge had yellowed plastic yet I found them 50 miles - and months - apart. So yes, this sort of thing can happen.
+OMGWTFLOL I did lol
I subscribe to the old saying "If you didn't build it yourself it isn't really yours". This is truly Clayton Paddison's car and that deserves a huge pile of respect.
Usually the guests make or break these shows for me, this has to be the best guest I've seen in Jay's garage.
You know you made it in the car world when you’re cruising down the road with Jay Leno
This guy was great, loved his enthusiasm.
This is the kinda episode I get excited for. Dawn of motoring cars, steam cars, rare old oddball machines. Wickedly cool old bikes. Fantastic.
I don’t care for the model T, but did enjoy the young owner’s passion and enthusiasm with it. I’d like to see more home built cars. It was kind of inspiring !
I love this car. The simplicity, robustness, and total analog nature of it is amazing...
you couldn't wipe the smile off of jays face priceless lol
With out a single doubt My FAVORITE episode EVER !!! So much more fun than something only 1% of us could afford, THIS pretty much is American history on wheels, which most ALL of us could afford and enjoy the hell out of.
This was a great program. This young man was so enlightened for his age.
The joy Jay & Clayton show in each other's company and this old car is what being a true car guy is what life is all about. Clayton's involving his boys in the car reminds me of my dad and me doing the yearly tear down on his pumped up '53 V8 flatty coupe. 1953 Ford Customline. Dechromed. Grey. (You could call it battleship grey. He worked for a pipeline company and used leftover paint from a project.) 1BA flathead block with Offie heads, Edelbrock twin carb intake manifold with 2 Strombergs, and Fenton cast iron headers with cut-outs fed into a 4 speed manual. The steering wheel had Lincoln markings on it. (It was a big wheel, a knuckle banger, no power steering.) He was always looking for ways to take a few more ounces off that car. Fast? Oh hell yes! For it's time.
One of the best yet on Jay Leno's Garage. Love budget rods like this.
I love this episode. This young guy loves this T. And really knows his passion.
As others have said, this kid needs a permanent role in the garage... Excellent.
Thanks for this Jay. Poor man's dream! (And I mean that in a good way) . Brought a tear of joy.
My dear old Uncle Reuben would have loved this. Amazing man who could move a house from the country, set it down on a foundation he built, plumb it, hook it up and there you go. Claytons got some of that spirit. You go kid......
this was definitely one of your best shows, and Clayton is amazing. His knowledge on the Early Model T's and A's is incredible and l look forward to seeing his next project. Bring him on again Jay.
...among my favorites of his uploads.
There is a ton of class in this build, even if you don't know much about T's or classic hot rods. Thanks for this video.
This might just be my favorite episode of JLG ive seen, Clayton is a true car guy, he knows his stuff, and he's built a wonderful little car on a budget that all of us can do. More like this please!
The chat between the two of them was so genuine. That guy definitely knows his stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if Jay didn't offer him a job or at least take his number down for future reference.
We wish! 😁 He did do one more segment with Jay in 2018 for the TV series.
This was one of the best episodes. I love anything pre 1950.
This is, without a doubt, one of the best episodes of Jay Leno's Garage that I;ve seen. Simply because of the amzing chemistry between two guys that know their Model Ts. That's how this show should be done, period.
You can see the joy on both of there faces with car talk. And Jay looking at what was done and ideas going off in his head. You can tell Jay appreciate this man work. Awesome 😎
This was my favorite episode in a long while. Average guys who wrench, build and improve what they've got is the car culture I enjoy more than anything.
Amen to that !!
Well, I plan to wrench about on a few cars, make them nice. Add some performance parts and not carefully measure absolutely every stat about it. Just make it look, sound and feel nice, the way it used to be!
That is wonderful and inspirational. My Father is 81 years old and fulfilling a lifelong dream. He is currently building a hot rod from a 1926 model T (T bucket). This thing sat upside down in a field for over 50 years, but as a testament to the quality of the vanadium steel, the body is still straight and solid. As the car had no drive train in it, he is putting in the LT1 engine and complete drive train from a 1992 Cadillac Fleetwood, and the front end from a 48 Ford. He custom built a new frame for it, and is putting in the back seat from an '88 Lebarron. It fits perfectly as the front seat for this model T, like it was made for it.
I am so proud of my father for realizing a life long dream at his age, and am constantly surprised to see the cars progress every time I visit.
Is there any Model T left in his car?
Paul Standeven at least it’s not upside down in a field now
Love to see a car from the beginning of mass-produced cars. Cars that were a big big part of why roads were built to the extent they were back then. And to hear the story of this particular one is fascinating as well.
Those early Fords are showing their quality now, a hundred years down the road.
Just so awesome! The kid knows his stuff also. What a great video guys.
The kid knows his stuff.
Michael 732 he has a 15 year old son lol. He's not a kid.
More episodes like this please, instead of high end cars
Outstanding to say the least. Appreciate both of your appreciations for a hotrod that did not brake the bank. Good build and thanks for letting all of us enjoy it.
Kudos to Clayton. Not only did he derelict a Model T into something that is uniquely his, he got Jay Leno to show it off for him. That's two pretty big feats right there.
This is my all-time favorite J.L. Video. Great to see how much he enjoyed this experience and respected the builder.
One of the best episodes I've seen! Hot rodding taken to it's most elemental state. Bravo!
yeah !
I keep coming back to this vid, it's one of my favourites.
One of the best episodes ever. Clayton is a regular guy and so is Jay; both united by a shared interest.
this and the shotwell are my favorites of all time jay episodes.
seems pretty clear that Lenno is quite impressed
I haven’t watched all of your videos Jay, but I’ve watched a ton of them and really love them all. This particular Model T vid is now my all time favorite. I had a smile on my face the whole time, and even laughed out loud so many time that my wife kept asking me, “What’s so funny?” Just great stuff!!!
This car is beyond mechanics....it's art...it's love....it's imagination....
Greatest Lenos Garage episode
Greatest hot rod I've seen
if I was Leno....I'd offer whatever to have the guy build me a car
by far the best Jay Leno Garage episode
What a great car, I love that Jay appreciates the car for what it is. The story and the relationship Clayton has with this car makes it much more interesting than a lot of really expensive cars. Jay is a true car enthusiast.
That's what being a car guy is. You can't go around judging any car against another. You love every car for what it is, and don't judge it for what it's not.
This is the single most inspirational video I have seen in a long time. Thanks guys.
In 1962 our father bought a 1926 Ford touring car, and my two brothers and I were introduced to the Model T Ford. Dad passed away last year, but three years ago he surprised us all by buying another '26 tourer. Riding with him into a busy intersection could be terrifying. He'd say, "O, they'll stop." Thank God they always did!
Thanks for the excellent video, which one of those bros shared with me.
IMHO this is one of the best Jay Garage episodes that I have seen, and I think I have watched most of them. The car...and the kid (well, he's not really a kid anymore) made this most enjoyable to watch. Jay and Clayton definitely bonded over their love of old cars, and I give credit to Clayton for not getting starstruck, and just talking to Jay, one gearhead to another.
This guy has to be one of my favorite guests he new his stuff wasnt cocky about it and the part that woulda flipped me out was the doors that is great I've done alot of cars and when something like that happens it brings u closer to that car i love the headlights and the dash Jay was definitely impressed and Jays belt buying story just shows u anybody can catalog build a car but when u find a way to save that money its a high like no other i also can relate to his grandfather i lost mine a few years ago and he was great its ashame he didnt see and share the car with him but hes guiding him im sure hes got balls driving 3 states over in that car thanks for another great video Jay
The Dad moment at the end is priceless. Thumbs way up!
Honestly, of all the guest cars that have been featured by Jay, this is by far the most interesting and best one.
Enjoyed the video. The young guy is brilliant.
It’s 2020 and this is still the best episode ever
wow so amazing. I love old cars but dont seem to have the talent like this kid has. Im am so jealous.
This Mr. Leno is by far one of your best shows, and I've seen most.
I never even knew the original engines could EVER be used to drive modern speeds at 60+ mph. And dual OHC with a blower! Jeeeze.
And 300 miles on a 12 gallon tank, still not bad.
I would rather drive this Model T than a Lamborghini, I honestly would
Jaret Bottoms you've never ridden in one apparently. They have zero suspension.
i can vouch for that......my 27 takes the bumps hard.....I've been trying to figure it out but i got nothing.
And on the 405 you would often be going the same speed...
@Jarrot B - I think the “T” would get an equal amount of attention at a “cars and coffee” meet as much as a Lamborghini.
@@alexcorona You can put a suspension on a Model T. How do you think you get V8-powered T-Buckets?
VERY COOL car! I love looking at antique cars and custom ones like this while I wonder "What does it sound like going down the road?" and Jay Leno's Garage answers that every time!
Clayton knows Model T and A cars inside and out, all the improvements/enhancements, the backstories of all the inventors that figured out how to get more HP out of that engine block. Plus, the guy fits his build within a budget, but knows how much money it would take to do any and all variations. This was 6 years ago. I hope Jay and Clayton keep in touch and maybe Clayton can bring another cool build on. I applaud Clayton for involving his kids. Imagine being his son at 15 years old getting to drive this car.
