- At an inner-city Detroit car club, Derek finds a 1928 Ford Model A that hasn't run in over 60 years. He calls in the help of Model A expert Paul Shinn to dissect this derelict 94-year-old car to figure out why it sat for so long.

There is so much I feel is missing. MT has this idea that we all dont have enough of an attention span, that we can barley hang on for 15 minutes. If you know Derek's fan base, you'd know we watch all 2 hours of his episodes and love every minute of it. I want the history on this car. I want to see the first start and Derek's reaction. I just want more. What a waste....
Absolutely! I hope that the feller doesn't leave behind the formula that brought him success and keeps us watching and enternained. A guy needs to not forget what makes him who he is.
We went from a compression test to driving on the road. WHAT!?
I love how the VGG videos get longer every time :D i can listen to his doodaps all day long - I laugh so much and longer videos means more laughing :D
I agree 100%. This is just as bad as watching a movie that ends with a cliffhanger, and never making a sequel. Why even waste the effort. I'll just watch Vice Grip Garage.... Lol
Sold Out, Im Sad.
Love how it jumps from "we got compression" to "now we're driving on the street". First starts are not a thing MotorTrend cares about. 🤦♂
With a new top...and seats.
I watch these shows to see how everything is fixed. This channel seems to edit out that sort of thing.
@@daveswinfield That's why I go right to Vice Grip Garage for that sort of thing. I only clicked on this video was because of VGG.
That's why his channel is better
these cut down vids truly lose everything.
Yeah, almost like watching one of those home-rescue shows. The brothers smash one counter top then the 8-man crew of Mexican artisans comes in, next thing you see is a finished rebuild. @@leftyo9589
Working on this Model A in Detroit with Derek was seriously the best week of my life. Thank you Derek and MotorTrend for the opportunity to make this episode of Roadworthy Rescues! Let's do it again!!!
Outstanding Paul, you rock!
Thanks for helping Merlin get back to Ohio!
Telling someone not to buy something and then helping to get it fixed up is a theme I'm way too familiar with.. 😂 Nice work sir! 👏
@@GoodForYou4504 Being friends with Derek means taking one for the team now and then!
Derek you DEFINITELY could not have found anyone better than Paul Shinn to work on a Model A. I’m of the mind that he knows more about them than did Henry Ford‼️
You guys need to do a follow-up❗️❗️
I laughed so hard when Derek was shaking the car to clean the gas tank and the mechanic comes in the shop. The look on his face was priceless!!😅😂
plastic bladed paint mixer cut down to fit into the tank on a drill will work alot better than car shaking alone. great vid! thanks
Derek and Paul are great together! Old cars, even better! I want MUCH more content like this!!!!
If Motor Trend ever invites me back, I'm in!!
@@ModelAyou are the warranty Paul.
Doesn't matter where you are in life, Derek will make anyone laugh at least once per episode!
Love Derrick, he's a great fella
I laugh when he licks the dipstick to taste the oil. 😆
@@ozahmed4523 I do too
Jumping a starter solenoid with a screwdriver was the first thing I ever learned about cars, thanks to a buddy's car having ignition issues. It has served me well for decades. Thanks Derek!
Paul seems like a super nice guy donating his time to this pretty junky car and getting it to run. I've caught several of Paul's videos on these old cars and I love the simplicity and thoughtfulness of their design when working on cars was part of their initial design.
I love Paul's shirt that says "I am the warranty".
My dad has a 24 model T and a 31 Model A. Simple to work on and simple to diagnose. Great cars.
Yep. Easy to work on because they had to be. No dealer network in the beginning and repair shops were still not too common. Easy to work on, but quite a handful to drive (at least at first). My dad, who worked on many cars in his life, told me years ago that the Model T and A were the easiest cars he ever worked on.
I have watched this episode several times times . I am so glad y’all saved another ole ford A
Vice grip garage is always entertaining. I was stunned to see this channel host and I watched this video completely.
To let everyone know, Packard is back in business.
They are located in Medina,Ohio
They will be bringing back the 1934 Packard Convertible
It will be hand built with new equipment and technology. They have 1 built so far, and it is inside on their showroom floor. They have all the details and will be taking new orders soon .
derek is in absolute top form with the one-liners on this one
Listening to 50’s Xmas tunage while a feller works a 28 ford. Great day!
Very cool episode...Derek and Paul reviving a 1928 Ford Model A and then cruising around Detroit, MI in it...automotive only content doesn't get any better than that!
Awesome. I’ve got an 09 Buick …1909 which is crazy to drive. Throttle and advance in the wheel. Brake on the right first gear reverse are clutches and second gear is a lever.
Excellent job of breaking the engine down and replacing defective parts and then the pleasure of driving this old girl. Paul Shinn has so much knowledge about these Model A's and Model T's he's a valuable man to have by your side.
Except that Paul will drink all your Gatorade and only leave you with the Diet Cokes.
I would absolutely love to see VGG and Reba together. EPIC
A fun interesting video. Amazing what a "feller" can do with a bunch of replacement parts, A well equipped shop, a lift, an expert helper, and a LOT of video editing! Truthfully, I like the Vice Grip Garage videos a lot better.
What a cool old car! Derek makes everything auto look easy and fun (a sign of a true expert!).
That was excellent! When I was just a kid, all my buddies had model A's so I learned a lot from them. I never had a Ford but the basics are still there. Gas, spark, compression. Bang!
😂🤣🤣💀😭💀😭💀❗❗❗
That Fella's Face, as He strolled into "ONLY GOD KNOWS what His thoughts were @ that SPECIFIC MOMENT in time & the Name He possibly had given it", was UNMATCHABLE & ONE OF A KIND 😆😆😆 Superior Content, Derek. You HAVEN'T FAILED YET, when it comes to My Personal Opinion 🤞🏽💯
Makes My day MUCH BETTER when I get that Notification on My phone 🙌🏽 No matter which video its for, as long as Dereks in it 😎
But, You ARE HUMAN, so DON'T FORGET to give yourself those much needed Days Off w the Fam & just Personal Mental Breaks from this Ole Interwebage Place. But Hey, may God continue to Bless You & that Beautiful Family of yours, Brother 🙏🏽 An just knw, He NEVER MISSES on WHO TO BLESS & You make it VERY CLEAR & set an OUTSTANDING EXAMPLE to ALL OF US 🤞🏽😎🤝🏽🙏🏽
I always enjoy watching Derek tinkering with older cars and teaching the youngins the specific names to the parts of an engine. This one was to short though.
Love Paul's tee shirt - I am the warranty. This was a pleasant video. A bit short and skipped the actual start and body upgrade / conversion. But still worthwhile. Please keep them coming

Great to see. this. in 1967 in New Zealand Fjiordland, a Maori work mate took us eel fishing in his 1929 model A. I was amazed when it climed a very steep river bank while seemingly just ticking over. I have never forgotten it.
It's great to see Derek and Paul together again!
Two of my favorites working together! Greatly enjoyed this episode on MT and enjoyed this recap greatly. Thanks for saving it ~ Chuck
Made me cry that was an honor to watch. Thank you for this wonderful gift
You get Paul and Derek and an old model A those two will make it run. Great job you two.
So cool to see you in my hometown working on an old “Feerd.” Thanks for the years of great entertainment, and loads of knowledge I’ve gained watching you wrastle with all these old rigs.
Love that Derek is doing this, it's like we get twice the VGG
Nice job-got me motivated for my 1948 to work on the same thing-stuck valves-
Awesome content as always. Thanks for sharing and taking us along
Great video. I own a 30 Tudor. Love all the vids about Model A's. Thank you for sharing your adventures. Paul's videos have saved my bacon more that I can remember.
My Father In Law is giving my wife his 1930 Model A and hundreds of orig parts wrap in orig factory paper. ❤
Sounds like you better get real acclimated to the in and outs of the Ford Model A. You have a fine Father in Law…thank him by enjoying the car.
The cigarette butt in the fuel is just mind blowing. So many questions...
That's why we just stood there in disbelief.
Really love these episodes with Derek. Glad you hired him.
I watch all of your videos and you have taught me a lot thank you so much ❤️😌
Owned a 31 Vicki for 36 years , but leaned some things from your video. thank you Derek.
It’s great to see you two working on another project together!
I loved the first model T that he worked on and this is great. Also good job I want to see more.
Two of my favorite you-tubers getting that Ford steel back on the road.
Great little video.
I can't imagine going from a horse & buggy to something like this, they must've thought they were on a rocket.
Great episode, Paul Shinn's a good man
Derrick and Paul make a good team and made an excellent show .
Wow that's really cool I really enjoyed the video keep up the good work Derek I get a big kick out of all your videos
Great video. That was so cool. Thanks GiV!
undeniably THE BEST car show ive ever seen.
I really enjoyed this one. Thanks 4 sharing.
I rode in the rumble seat from Los Angles to Little Rock many years ago. My grandfather and i back there, my dad, mom, & brother up front.
That was an awesome episode! Good stuff!
I enjoyed learning about the Model A engine and brakes.
I had a '30 coupe when I was in high school (early 1960s). I spent nearly every spare cent I had on that thing, but I still love it.
I love these old model A projects. These cars are so simple. Maybe even an idiot like me might be able to work on it.
Just found this channel. really enjoying it!
back in the early 60's my brother and i had a model A woody wagon that was rough and we tinkered with it, learned on our own about cars and got it running and driving.
I liked the head removal trick. I liked the VGG version of this save a little more but adding the two of them together made it great.
The way it rocks you would think the was some youngsters getting froggy in the back seat LOL great work on the old Ford.
AWESOME! CONGRATS!
Excellent video Derek :) yes those Model A cars are interesting in 1994 at first Restoration shop I work we did body also electrical to 1929 Model A Woody car also so fun work on and Motor was updated to a Flat Head 292 1 barrel carb with hand choke cable to steering wheel plus Floor shifter h patterns R with 1 & 2 6 volt positive ground electrical start or hand crank handle same brakes as 1928 has plus wheels! I have seen car in years since Restoration and but be nice someday! You enjoy 1928 nice work get motor and test drive Derek!
Watching this while installing 5 massive hose clamps to reinstall the starter that Allegedly fell off the bracket on my snowblower 😅
Sweet work fellas .
It lives 🤘
Derek with good editing! Love it.
"What a resurrection! History comes alive. Roadworthy again!"
awesome, love the VG series.
I really enjoy this show on motor trend TV, and Derek is a great mechanic. I could say his jokes are really not necessary, but that's my opinion, no one else. I'm more into serious talking about old car rescue.
Judging by the view counts of Dereks vids on this channel, a new star is born! Way to go Derek
He is brilliant.. $7 Million net worth already!!!!
I enjoyed the video don’t see Derek working on these dinosaurs very much, First time seeing Paul and he knows these old cars inside and out so it makes a fun educational video 👍👍
Too bad we missed the good parts. Anyway i just love the simplicity and build quality. It's like you could basically rebuild the engine with ease knowing the parts are solid an will last a lifetime
Fun episode ! Derek and Paul really work well together !
Can you point out the first start up ? Didn't think so.
i love it.thank you
This is a great series.
What a gorgeous car.
You just KNOW this will go better than the "When Engineers Go Bad" Cadillac with the Dr. CrankCaseStein 8-6-4 from last week. I'm STILL hungover from that!
Brilliant. Good vid
I love anything with Derek in it, but y'all left out the best part; starting the engine!
Another great video!!😂😂great work bravo!!
GREAT JOB!!! Enjoyed the video! Is there a Part 2?????
Yeah, missed half the project. Maybe on Tv is the full episode, dont know.
"I wonder what Allen Jackson's doing'?🤣 😂😅 😁
MotorTrend? Wow, you have come along way sir. Well deserved! Cheers, Michael in Toronto.
Awesome congratulations
I love tge Model A…, I’ve owned and restored three of them. So simple.
I am the Warranty is such a great T-shirt. The car looks great with the new beige top.
this is amazing!
Get to see more of Derek!
You guys definitely robbed me of the first start. After all of that teardown - why!!
I appreciate you working with Derek, I wish this was on Derek's channel though.
This is just a teaser. Full episode is on Discovery Plus (Motortrend TV).
i gotta say that you find the coolest cars
Great job
Very interesting thanks
C'mon MotorTrend! Let Derek be Derek. Us VGG fans will pop a bucket of popcorn, grab a cold snack, and gladly sit thru 2 hours of wrenching.
What a neat car, I'd love to own one.
Thank you
i always liked those, hope i can get one someday
Neat car ,, gonna be in the market of getting an A or T really soon looks like a survivor 👍
Love the Model A!
Casually hanging out with the legand Paul Shinn awesome
You're very kind. Thank you! I'm no legend. Derek is though.
Would love to get my hands on that one would be so awesome
Nice work man 👍
Did you know that the same old six cylinder bosh starter motor is the same all ya have to do is change the parts that bolt up to the gearbox.
And just loving the colour of the XC FALCON And was wounding what the exact colour it is as I’m looking to paint my XW green.
Thanks 👍
