This reminds me of my old tablet I had a couple years back. I don't remember the brand or specs because I was a child but it was bright blue, only had a selfie camera and ran like it was begging to die. One day in my bed it got lost under the covers, I put my knee on it accidentally full force and the screen cracked and it wouldn't respond to touch anymore. Honestly that was probably for the best
It reminds me of whenever I would go to shopko with my mom and dad and I would go look at the cameras and there was this Coby Tablet, I remember thinking that it was cool but also making fun of it because I went on the photos app and the was normal text saying “No Photos” and then I went to the Videos app and there was giant stretched out blurry words that said NO VIDEOS!!! In an extreamly ridiculous font
I'm pretty sure while this model was made in 2020 it's the same under the hood as the tablet I bought my grandma in 2012. It was a different brand name but the case and exterior design were identical, the "specs" as much as you can say 4 cores without a processor model count as specs were the same, it just ran on a much older version of android. If my suspicions are correct the iCraig is also a 10 year old design manufactured in 2020 and it was significantly cheaper than the ipad at the time, and also not horrible for the era of mobile devices, not good, but not horrible.
You are right, its a chinese tablet that many brands around the world re-brand. I have the exact same one with a random brand, even the struggle for the internet to work lmao

@@_._shinonome_._ Isn’t android GO supposed to be the lightweight one? 😂 Also, hardware should be better than the dual-core 2010 tablets, which doesn’t seem to be the case when they are still built with a weight of an A4 sheet of paper
Christmas 2012, my present was a tablet that ran android either 3 or 4 probably 4, it ran much faster then the craig in the video and to top it all off is that the tablet was made and distributed by radioshack
@@_._shinonome_._ Actually, I had the exact same tablet, but running Android 4 if I remember correctly, and it was just as slow and unusable. It would choke just trying to play a RUclips video in standard definition!
@@Dewree69 Problem is time, mate. Operational systems get fat over the years. So even the lightest android now takes a whole lot more to run than the heavy ones from like 2012
Oddly enough probably the very same screen, if not just the same resolution. Iirc the 4th gen had a 1920x1200 screen but most of them have terrible panels.
Without any joke, that tablet is as powerful as... A 2013 Samsung Galaxy Ace 3. which was even by then far from being powerful. Except that the Ace 3 ran Android 4.2 which was much less ressource hungry than Android 9. When I installed LineageOS 15 (Android 8.1) on it, it was as laggy as the iCraig... That until I got rid of the Google Play Services. The difference was Night Vs Day, from unusable to eh okay for a 10 years old device running a "Modern" release P.S : I've bought an old iPad 3. Still a billionth time more powerful than the iCraig
And also most old phone are straight up getting "Google Play services has stopped" when it forced to run a slightly newer Android version. And the worst thing, the OS won't ever boot up and stuck in eternal bootloop
Damn, now that explains why i was reminded of cheap 2014 phones when watching that. Because that's what it is. I remember a friend buying an Acer phone that year, 6+ inch 720p LCD screen with plasic instead of glass, looked like absolute crap, ran just like the iCraig, and had what's probably the worst software i've ever seen. Like, the lockscreen clock, the status bar, and the home screen clock widget were all showing different times. How do you screw up that badly. What's even funnier is that same year, Google sold the 8GB Nexus 4 for 199 bucks, and it was amazing.
@@Totone56 And let's not forget about the phones LG released around that time too, with good hardware but more than crappy software that made it worse than a iCraig
It’s a huge shame there are so many people who will be inclined to buy one of these on a regular basis and throw it in the bin every 6 months because they “don’t need anything better” - often also ruining their own experience with all the technical issues or giving up completely
I feel bad for all the pensioners, elderly, and people working minimum wage who can't afford anything better but just buy the cheapest thinking it can't really be that bad. Some poor student will no doubt buy this hoping to use it for taking notes at college or doing online exams, I just hope it doesn't impede their educational prospects. It SHOULDN'T be that bad, but sadly companies can keep selling this junk without a care in the world. This tablet was E-waste before it was sold. It should at least be usable for listening to music or watching videos, but no doubt it will pause and stutter every time Google software updates in the background.
Was going to say - these things are being marketed to the elderly directly. Just saw a full page newspaper add the other day and it was for one that looked very similar to this & with the same weird keyboard. They were asking a lot for it too, something like £160.
when i was younger and the ipad was new i asked my parents to get me one and they gave me a borderline unusable android tablet like this. it absolutely went into the bin after a few months and that money wouldve been better spent on something decent
@Microwave Dave yeah. I've learned that, with phones and tablets, it's best to buy an older flagship from 7-8 years ago than buy some random trash brand. A factory reset and/or reverting to an older version of the operating system will go a long way to making it work better but you can't make a piece of junk good
My favorite thing is that the tablet is so out of date, the RUclips app sends so outdated requests to the servers that it gets straight up rejected. Lmao. (Error 4XX codes mean something is wrong with a request the device is sending to the servers)
I remember have a mp3 like the Craig. It only lasted me like 2 weeks and the headphones jack went out. Had to rap rubber bands around it just to make it work. Then later to keep the mp3 together 😂.
I had a generic no name like the Craig Mp3 player he showed with 1GB of space, and it lasted me well over a year 1/2 before I was able to upgrade to a Sandisk Sansa C250, so I guess it was luck of the draw with those things.
This is why, as a person of limited budget, I always choose older high tech stuff marked down over the cheaply priced new stuf. My new-to-me phone, tablet, and Mac Mini are all 3-5 years old and work better than cheap stuff made this year. I am always like ‘don’t buy the cheap tablet’ to parents. Give the kid your old one when you’re ready to buy the new one.
I Have A Tablet That Is Basically Just A Rebranded Laser Tablet (Was The Laser Tablet 8 Inches?) It Performs A Lot Better Than This, So No, You Wouldn't Be Wrong.
NOOOO DONT DO IT I have one of those and i HATE it. My first (2012) tablet is nicer than that thing! Anything with Android GO as a whole actually. The whole OS stinks, paired with that shit tier engineering it's just a nightmare to use. Unless the only thing you wanna do with it is watch RUclips, and even then it would disconnect from WiFi when I used my Bluetooth headphones.
@@sorakafutanari I don't think it's the os's fault that it's shit, more just a sign that it will be shitty. That being said you can get a TCL A1 for $50 at walmart and it's way better than this, albeit it's a phone and not a tablet. But at least on that you can play games.
That MP3 player was sold under a bunch of different brands and they were dirt cheap. I had that same unit during high school; but branded as an Element (the TV brand). I still have it on a shelf somewhere. They were actually really good for circa 2008. Solid state memory, user replaceable AAA battery, user toggleable multi colored backlighting, and computers looked at it as a thumb drive (which is what it was) so it was extremely easy to put music on. You could even use it as mass storage for documents and stuff if you were desperate. High school me would type up assignments at the public library, save them to my MP3 player, then plug it in to a PC at the school library the next morning to print them out. I'm going to finish the rest of the video now; I just wanted to take a moment to endorse the little MP3 player. It was a lot better than you're giving it credit for.
Yeah, that is the kind of player basically everyone had at my school in like 2003. It was pretty much the default player. But it could do all the things that make mp3 players successful: reads id3 tags, mass storage, drag'n'drop, replaceable battery.
Thank you for triggering my PTSD with this episode! I used to be a computer salesman in the US and we sold similar Craig "tablet" things at my store. I'd sometimes have to wipe them when they were returned, and boy howdy were they CRAP. Imagine this with a single core Celeron. Yeah. They were like $50 tablets that were about as effective at running as actual stone tablets. I hated these things. The customers hated these things. Everyone hated these things.
I can confirm the “get your grandma an older but decent tablet”. My grandma has used my dads iPad 4 for two years until two weeks ago, when I did replace it with a new iPad 9; because ordering groceries didn’t work anymore - reason being software version of her browser. I know there are probably fixes for that, but my grandma is … not really good with tech, so I did want her to have a stable system (so I don’t have to visit her every weekend doing tech fixes, that has happened before), and also, she has the money to afford a new one, AND I don’t have an old one at the moment that I could spare. The tablet now sits in our kitchen, awaiting a new fate; but most importantly, I don’t get called every other day to order her groceries! Hallelujah!
Not a tablet, but had a similar thing happen with my mums laptop. She would get the cheapest Acer laptops and be surprised when it was super slow to load up and run. What did it for her was the Wi-Fi kept breaking on her every couple weeks, so eventually gotten her a nicer, more modern laptop (2020 model) that she could use without all the previous problems cropping up
Oh man, I went through a handful of cheap tablets as a kid and this rocketed back so many memories. I have a nostalgia for these long wait times on crappy screens that hurt my eyes, good times!
Most of my tablet have been cheap RCA devices 😭 I've had RCA tablets since, like, 2015, and my aversion to change keeps me from getting something better 😭😭😭 Plus I can't really afford something expensive right now 😔
Pretty sure all the Craig products aren't exclusive to their brand, it's just all nameless china tech they order with their name on it. That said, some of that nameless China tech _can_ be pretty decent for the price.
as soon as ive seen him trying to install 'real racing 3' and remembered how it tanked my nugget phone i was like 'nah mate dont do it dont do it for the love of god-'
Are you kidding? Google encourage it to help sell more products. Their garbage software makes perfectly good hardware slow and unusable. I've had two tablets that were unusably slow with the Play Store and all the Google apps slowing them down, but after rooting and installing LineageOS they run just great. You need Root for it to work, but bring up a process viewer and you'll see Google's garbage software running updates and telemetry software in the background, and disabling it suddenly speeds things up.
@@s8wc3 The OS shouldn't be slowing down a device to the point where it's unusable. Nothing should be running in the background unless it's needed. So yes if Android 9 is too slow to run on this device, it's Google's fault for making it slow.
Ong but that would mean half of all android users would be cut from the play store & google would lose money which would skyrocket apple phone sales because android just got crappier than ever.
I just bought a craig portable dvd player from the mid-2000’s from community aid for 13$ and had an mp3 or two of theirs growing up. The dvd player is awesome, the mp3s were a bit jank but I was NOT expecting this. Or them to even exist nowadays
You have to admit tho... that riding on a sled pulled by chihuahuas automatically makes you the coolest guy around. We're not going to discuss the fact that the Chihuahuas don't have enough height to pull a sled, that's irrelevant.
Personally I’d take the chihuahuas cause the little bastards are cute to me. I know how obnoxious they can be (I have one, she barks at nothing, Lily is very much a little fat idiot) but god I love those little hell creatures.
I once had a tablet like this and gave it to my mom. She said she was thankful for it but she told me everything on it ran slowly but she was still able to use it. The speeds of the tablet are exactly like the iCraig. I felt so bad for her that I threw it out and gave her a brand new iPad Air.

I work at a catalog company in warehousing, and we sell boatloads of Craig and Naxa products. All of them are stinky tablets, music players, speakers, headphones, and more. The most offensive I've seen is a camera binoculars by Craig.
Is this the real world manifestation of the silicone shortage? It's like the last of the last knockoffs to be made of old leftover or repurposed mobile processors that were too outdated to be used in anything "new"
This Craig is like that one friend where you have a chat, but then they devolve into an hour long story. Then they ask you a question, but before you can answer, they devolve into *another* hour long story. A true Craig.
Reminds me of my old rca 9 inch something. Ran like an abandoned Cadillac firing up and it had less ram than an og iPhone, but for 15$ it was damn near a steal
One thing that bogs down old or crappy devices, is once you connect, those droids love to start updating in the background. I've found if you let it sit on a charger asleep for an hour or so they become considerably better. Still offensively slow, but not as bad.
I threw some unofficial Lineage port on my ancient Samsung and it ran noticeably faster. Most likely because it was without TouchWiz and the other bloatware.
The solution to this is to turn off any form of auto-update on WiFi. I have Auto Update turned off for both Play Store and system updates. I manual update everything.
It's made worse when you realize that both ICraig AND Craig labeled tablets exist.... Like, can somebody explain to me what the difference is? They all appear to be the same models.... Why do some seemingly proudly omit the the "I" from the logo?
@@kidwolf0015 To be honest I would say that it's less about pride in omitting the "i" there, and more like some slight shame to not want to be yet another 2000s onwards iAnything of whatever exists.
I feel the aggravation with modern games needing to update all the time. I decided I would play games on my Xbox Series S while I was home for the holidays. Had to wait over an hour for the damn thing to finish updating, and then had to wait even longer for my games to download all of their updates. Like, bruh, I just want to play a few missions in Halo MCC.
@@qu1253 so many times you install a game it basically installs 200 megs to allow playing 1 quick game with the idea you'll be hooked, and then starts auto downloading a multi gig update afterwards with no options, or even getting to the main screen. So I rebooted my phone halfway through the first CRAIG loading screen just to see... and I had it unlocked before CRAIG showed you his Checking for Updates screen

I've been thinking of upgrading my 4 year old Motorola that costed 150 euros at the time, but watching this makes it look as smooth as butter lol, might be able to squeeze another year out of it.
I got my very own Craig recently and I love it. It's a radio/ cd player/ portable black and white radio TV all in one. It does everything but wash the car. And through a series of cables, adapters, and modulators. I played mortal combat on it's beautiful 5 inch b/w display.
I could almost hear the 1 Grit getting revved up for action! That screen was just asking for it! That is pathetically slow for a "wooo" QUAD CORE. It begs the question......Quad Core WHAT? Apples? Potatoes? Spoons? Looks like Frank has met her speed match in life!
I'll admit it I don't stay long on most youtube channels but my friend showed me this channel like two years ago and I've watched almost all of the videos released since. The aftershow is always a wonderful treat. Keep up the great work!
The Craig brand is over 50 years old. They used to make low and mid-tier car and home audio gear in the 70's, as well as TV's. Never the best, but not bad for the price, at least back then.
I have an actual 1st gen Samsung tablet, the Galaxy Tab 8.9. It's about the same age as the iPad 4 and it too still hangs out. It loves freezing when its singular gigabyte of RAM gets too full and is painfully slow at times, but the battery still works well enough and it can handle games of its period. And just to show how disgusting the iCraig's screen is, the smaller Galaxy Tab 8.9 has a 1280x800 screen, which still pales compared to the 3840x1644 of my current phone. I also have a Nintendo DS Lite that I've had for 2/3 of my life and it still runs like mint, crazy battery life included.
I, too, have a DS lite I got years ago off ebay and it still has that absurd battery life that'll last hours of gameplay. And to think pictochat still works too, no wifi necessary lol.

I only know a little bit of programming but all my friends have 3D printers and are aching for reasons to use 'em, a tablet made out of a Raspberry Pi 4 and its touch screen would be bulky but it'll probably work better than CRAIG!
I can't lie, I thought the title said Toilet in it and not Tablet. I was applauding Craig for going where no other audio company has gone, just for my hopes to be dashed by reality. Good video Dank!
judging by the keyboard case i used to have a similar tablet, exact case too! however it wasn't craig (some other shitty company tho the loading screens were literally ads for their own built-in library app which i've never opened) and def wasn't a "2020" model but it had 1GB RAM and 4 GB storage, never seen anything from that brand again tho and i've forgotten the name already so
Is it called prestigio or something like that, IIRC they used cheap shitty Allwinner SOCs that could barely get out of their own way, at the time it was eeeeh nowadays no not at all.
The different pronunciations of Craig always brings a smile to my face. In the US it's pronounced Creg but apparently in AU it's pronounced Crayg. Silly little difference but I always get a kick out of it.
This is just about my favorite kind of video on DankPods. I'm so glad Craig has remained in business all these years; something about the quality of these trinkets being just barely above "worthless" makes it extra hilarious to see them get critiqued. Merry Craigmas, everybody.
High-quality stuff, Craig! An ol' mate you can trust! I'm no joke just setting up a new iPad Air as I'm watching this and boiiiii the performance is totally on par! That's raw quad-core husky power for ya! Edit: I have a 10-year-old iPad mini 2 that I use on my treadmill and... this 2020 iCraig seems to load RUclips even slower than it! Impressive!!! Edit 2: (I can't believe I have more to say, but) I recognize this generic, cheap, gabrage chinese tablet keyboard! One of the first bootleg tablets I bought back in 2012 had the exact same one.
Might've been a Amazon Kindle I used to have one like that
I'm pretty sure while this model was made in 2020 it's the same under the hood as the tablet I bought my grandma in 2012.

The biggest shock for me is that Craig is still around
I thought they were some dead early 2000s brand
Craig has been around since the early 1960s.
Not sure if it was this year or last year, but once, I went to Dollar General, and found a big and tall Craig Bluetooth speaker.
The difference was Night Vs Day, from unusable to eh okay for a 10 years old device running a "Modern" release
P.S : I've bought an old iPad 3. Still a billionth time more powerful than the iCraig
Damn you Google Services!
Forced google services updates kill old phones all the time
Every single time the old 1920s-era piano music comes on, I giggle like a little kid. This is great.
@@Lucien86 Yes it's basically a scam. Fraudulently selling not-fit-for-purpose electronics.
when i was younger and the ipad was new i asked my parents to get me one and they gave me a borderline unusable android tablet like this. it absolutely went into the bin after a few months and that money wouldve been better spent on something decent

Hallelujah!

Are you kidding? Google encourage it to help sell more products. Their garbage software makes perfectly good hardware slow and unusable.
I've had two tablets that were unusably slow with the Play Store and all the Google apps slowing them down, but after rooting and installing LineageOS they run just great.
