      @@peterclarke7240 The hardware wasn't really the letdown here. It's the same as any $40 TracFone you can buy at a gas station. The operating system cutting off a huge chunk of software was the sledgehammer to the kneecaps for this thing.

    • @peterclarke7240
      @peterclarke7240 Год назад +5

      @@VulpesHilarianus I know- my point was there's a reason why none of the big names do this, even though it's a fairly obvious idea- You're sacrificing space in a phone that could better be used with practically anything else, particularly at this price point, and you're relying on either your earbuds being good enough or easily replaced with third-party products when they inevitably break or get lost.
      It's a silly gimmick, essentially, and we're quite a long way past the wild west days of silly gimmicks in mobile phones. Put this phone up against any other similarly priced phone and it'll probably lose, because earbuds are relatively cheap and a dead easy after market thing to install, whereas a semi-decent camera, or a bit more memory, are things outside the skill of most normal people to mod.

    • @VulpesHilarianus
      @VulpesHilarianus Год назад +24

      @@peterclarke7240 I think the real problem is that Nokia's so close to actually getting it right, but they're still stuck in 2005 mentally. Imagine a phone with the classic keypad layout and a touch pad in the center between the call and end call buttons that doubles as the traditional button. Pair that with modern Android and you've got a phone that a lot of people will use. There's a market of unknown but theoretically big enough size made up of people who don't want the features of a smartphone because they don't use them, but want access to things like, as Dank stated, Spotify, RUclips, and Snapchat.
      Nokia sticking with Symbian 20 is absolutely wrecking their ability to actually sell the phones, because the market of people who want a straight feature phone is too small.

It was built like a brick, all sides aluminium, had sick LEDs (that did NOT flash to rhythm of music, what a waste), it had... an adequate music player, could read up to 2GB microSD card, which honestly, for that time was also adequate, and it was a java phone with 2G, so with Opera Mini and some instant messenger apps it was like a precursor for a really early modern smartphone. Ive even replaced it only after Ive found an Xperia X10 with slider QWERTY keyboard, thats how fine that phone was. It’s sad that modern “Nokia” isn’t actually trying to revive that cellphone market, I grew up on Nokia phones starting with 1100, then going to Asha 202, then to Asha 308, and to Asha 300, where 300 was much better model with 5MP camera, 3G, and a lot of memory/storage compared to most other Nokia cellphones, it was cool to use those devices at the time, nowadays I do have 5130 XpressMusic for music, as it’s small and has side buttons for music control, it even has those cool music lights, it’s a very cool phone even if it’s from 2009, and I can easily connect my wireless earbuds if I want

    I had Nokia 5130 Xpress Music, I was using that in 2010 when I was in 6th grade, iphones were very expensive for us and smartphones weren't a thing here in Bangladesh at that time. I only cared about Java games. I loved playing asphalt and COD and Bounce Tales on that thing. I had a couple of other Nokias following that, like Nokia 2700 and 6303i and in 2012 I got my first "smartphone", Nokia E72 and that was the best and by that time Smartphones were getting popular and most of my friends had Samsung Galaxy Y and got an Android in 2013 but I kept using my Nokia E72 because the camera was amazing at the time. One thing unique about 5130 was the loud speaker, it was very loud for those mobiles. Good old days
