Dive is when a Genji, Winston, and Tracer bully the poor Zen on the enemy team
I'm a Sombra main, and I frequently ult with the sole intention of killing Zenyattas. Whenever I see them on the enemy team, my immediate reaction is "Yes, another bot to spawnkill".
I apologize to every Zenyatta main on the planet but I play to win XD

Is GOATS any better?
You mean: Tracer and Zenyatta took skill. To get a dive running is basically like getting a deathball running: You all go straight towards the enemy team at the same time, except this time you're hitting an ability while pressing W. Provided everybody understands that dive is being played, is competent individually at their heroes, and understands that tanks go in the front and supports in the back, a dive comp can be cobbled together with zero coordination. Those are the exact same requirements as a deathball comp.
I mean, yeah, thatswhy GOATS is so much better than dive, right?
DPS Mains: Ahh, the good old days, back when Overwatch was fun. I can't believe it's over. Who didn't love Dive?

I remember reading a forum thread where people were generally being dispirited by the (at that time) very dominant dive comp. People were calling out for all sorts of nerfs and buffs to phase out the dive comp. Jeff posted in that thread, saying something like they didn't want to overly control the meta, because that would lead to an unending balancing game, and that they only wanted to focus on nerfing / buffing heroes because they were unbalanced as a hero, not as a hero part of a meta. This leads to comp innovation, and to me it seems to be working very well, especially with the esports scene where we sometimes see some really strange comps and strategies being played, inspiring people to do the same, or try their own thing. I think that's a great attitude on the developers' side.

As a Tank/ Support player, I hated DIve because I could only start fights but I relied on my DPS teammates to finish them. Half the time they didnt even communicate and just poked from a distance as I threw myself into the enemy team. I hated Dive the moment it trickled down because if it always felt like the enemy team could do it better than my team could. When I saw the Brig Dev Update I already knew I was buying her gold flail the day she went live (which I did). She was literally everything I could ask for against Dive in one hero. Unfortunately, she was horribly overtuned and now I look like a jerk because I have her gold weapons. FeelsBadMan
And a beautiful year and a half it was. It was the ultimate “your best vs our best, let’s go” composition the game has ever seen. Loads of mechanical skill and outplay ability. Now, we are stuck with the beat-your-head-on-a-wall-for-3-minutes-straight goats comp where you just launch in mindlessness and eventually things start to die

Goats: Allow me to introduce myself
I was playing solo queue in competitive and only one person in my team had a mic and they never used it. The other teamed was coordinated and persistent. They also ran dive. It was not a fun day.
would be a cool comp where except of targeting one enemy and finishing them off 1 by 1 you could target all of them by containing them in a zone. I call it "my worst nightmare" just put junkrat ,mei, moira,lucio rein and orisa orisa gathers everyone then mei and junkrat comes in with lucio's help and with moira can just keep healing if theres a zenny ult rein can either charge him. or charge someone else then it will transform to a burst dive comp except for mei cause mei's either frozen or a deadite.
People complain about the meta too much when they don’t even play it. Even during the peak of dive meta many people still didn’t know how to play Winston or how to dive properly as Winston and even worse, absolutely no tracers (at least, not between 2000-2600).
The meta is only seriously enforced at the top500/pro level and in that sense, dive was the most fun for me to watch (over goats or bunker comp for example). In terms of both viewing and playing enjoyment, the best thing that could happen is that each comp is situational and gets preference on different maps. Instead we get people sticking to the same meta across every map which leaves people who don’t flex that much to feel unsatisfied with the game. Or even if you do flex, why would I lock in roadhog or Zarya when dva is my favorite off tank? Same for Reinhardt over Winston, or tracer over McRee.
Each meta was pretty savage to different roles. GOATS killed DPS, Dive was hell for supports, and IMO, bunker comp is making it really hard to play tanks (other than orisa/hog and maybe Hammond).
When one meta becomes too strong (as in easy to play and virtually unbeatable) then everyone suffers. You can’t play the character you like. You have to adapt to the meta and even then it doesn’t guarantee you a win (usually bc if you don’t main the character in your role that’s meta, you won’t do as well). I saw another analysis video that gave a good suggestion: I think having more heroes would balance out the meta. Having too many options will actually save the game bc no character can get too strong.
Why is the screen so small?
Dive for me would be dying to a gengi and tracer diving me and my team killing their zen. I spent almost half the game floating to my team or watching them fight, which mostly ended up in a 5v5 battle without zenyatta.

Playing dive in gold means one guy get on dva one get on winston and they both jump halfway across the map in opposite directions while everyone else get’s obliterated by the widowmaker dead center while walking head first into junk spam

Dive isn't dead. I managed to pull it off really well because the enemy weren't counter picking.
Dive is usually done by tanks and supports with dps sniping from afar and watch their teammates die.
Just imagen the Ös bing that high guy att the fast food place saying "Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" but short. Uh.

Why is everyone saying loved? It still is a great comp to run. Just finally a counter to it. And as broken as brig is her pick rate isn’t that high. The fact that goats can be run at literally every level of play and dive can’t is kind of a problem though tbh.

too bad winston players a rarer than a good nights sleep. I dont mind getting a rein because you can work with it, but if the enemy has winston dva its usually gg (and its a lot funner playing with a winston). But for the love of god stop picking throwdhog or zarya when im dva and picked first

Goats comp, it consist on Reinhardt, D. Va and Zarya as tanks and briggite, lucio and moira/Ana as supports. It focuses on Reinhardt initiating the fight by charging in at someone followed by his team, the objective is to get an initial pick and snowball your way to victory from there.
Its because 90% of players play as if Overwatch was a single player game. Only focusing on getting kills instead of peeling for their team. Which is okay in Quick Play but NOT okay in Comp.

Mercy was never meta in dive until her rework before OWL. Lucio should be there over her in the default dive comp section.
Dive wasn't bad, but I agree it is fun to have lots of different styles. However Goats which is meta now is really boring. Hope this changes, but I don't see it.
Brig gets hate because she counters Dive. Soon as she was Mercy-Nerfed, Dive came back and Tracer and Genji are now Instalocked Gods. Just kill Brig, she isn't that hard to kill if you know what you're doing 😅. Now Dive is going to be meta again for another damn year and a half AGAIN

Moira has killed or better balanced dive but brigitte had desroyed it and the hole game because she was and is a healer tank and dps in one char!!!
I have been playing Overwatch for like 2 years and I still know dog 💩. I dont know anything I just play for fun. I wish I knew more but I feel like there is too much stuff to catch up on.
