His voice was ok when they started touring in support of the Black Album. He blew it out during the recordings, but at some point in 93, he had a similar incident, perhaps due to illness. You can hear him struggle on that show they did in Switzerland in 93, in Basel I believe, which is also here on youtube in Pro-shot quality.
i used term standard not for scales or guitar tune here lol. but just for james voice, his voice is straight forward, strong heavy , thrash not like other bands like Phil pantera that sounds a bit cooked voice.
