2:29 James realizes how fucking awesome it is to play this fucking song live
I love that look. XD XD XD
I bet this is actually one of James's fave songs to play live. There's this moment, and in one of their more recent performances he shouts "I love playing that song!" right after they finish. Too bad they have stuff like Enter Sandman taking precious setlist spots to appease the commercial listeners nowadays, burying gems like this song!
I saw in a youtube video him mentioning this song as one of his Metallica favorites. Damn I love that 2:29 moment. I have watched it probably 50 times since I discovered this video yesterday. \m/
To play it correct you mean bro.... Love this song though....!!!!
If you look up "The thing that should not be live 2009" Hes headbanging pretty hard there. :D
2:32 James got a eargasm
'Hi guys.. and welcome to.. Metallica ASMR'
3:30
The POWER in this man's voice... What a fucking badass.
its call reverb
The point was it aounded badass regardless @@sebg2086
3:30 that sounds painful.
It probably was really painful, this is the era when Jaymz fucked up his voice completely, you can hear in this performance that james can't really hit those high notes.
To me it’s like an older male lion in the sense of like James voice during this time he’s struggling hard to be like his younger more powerful angrier self but in the heat of the moment his youth will roar out of him like the old days although it’s painful on the lions older body.
they were touring too much.
In 1987-1992 he hit the notes but he put bottom mass into it.
Its the same notes, but a different tone@@goldenwolf8081
I don't think there was ever a more fitting solo for a song. The original studio solo fit the theme of this song perfectly.
The note sequence is so bizarre, amazing election of notes by Hammett. That's why he's a great guitarist. So underrated and receives much hate.
@@RodHammett95 because he just puts super forgettable sloppy wah solos over any piece of music that they release now.
He really served the song with this solo. No overplaying and unecessary shredding
@@barndencactus he paid $29 for that wah pedal and bah gawd y'all he's gonna get his money worth
Believe it or not Kirk wrote the solo in about 30 minutes
5:44 that RISING was so crisp
I miss the old Metallica, But gotta respect them their still rock'n hard today!
Mason Witherwax I miss young Metallica 😉
Yeah still great musicians, so talented
Also to this day they're still rock'n hard. 🙏🔥💯
1:05 to 1:08 , look at the left , a young man with yellow shirt appears from the underground
lol
+luKaz895 Look at his face. He is like "Where the hell am I?"
+luKaz895 holy crap thats crazy he looks possessed
+luKaz895 He saw the thing should not be. LOL!
This is the funniest shit I've ever seen. He's like "What the fuck is this heaviness?"
luKaz895 Holy shit that is so funny! XD
2:30 man I love that feeling from playing, the zone, when you feel one with your instrument
Fucking amazing.
1:10 James realize that this song is heavier than he tought
Matteo Mirri 2:28
4:14 one of Kirk's most underrated solos!
It's literally one of his most celebrated solos. Can't stand how the word "underrated" is thrown around lately.
0:44 Cliff?
+Roädie In Rock cliff spirit
Erdem Şanlı Immortal!
+Roädie In Rock Wow, it sure looks like Cliff!
Cliff is Dead 😭
Sadly Not... RIP
0:44 cliff spirit
He showed up in the afterlife to rock out for a couple hours lol
looks like Rex Brown from Pantera
4:14 KIRK WE NEED YOU BACK
the James voice sound hypnotizing
Ride the lightning has always been my favourite album by these guys for a good 30 years, but this has to be their best tune. Am I the only one who feels this way??
Future reply, but yes. This song is the heaviest shit on earth. Lyrics are masterful.
2:26 James "the devil's voice" Hetfield
2:29 i fucking love rare moments like this. James Hetfield headbanging
Say what you want about Lars now, but from 1981-89 he was KING!
Absolutely...AGREE ....he was a BEAST.
i guess he thought the same thing and never practiced another day in his life..lol
Τhat's a badass song for sure
Even though he's heard this song a million times, even James has an 'OMG this is amazing' moment at 2:33. Good case of HMAF. (Heavy Metal Appreciation Face).
Love that creepy echo on the vocal in the verse!!
Kirk's playing Jimi Hendrix 3rd Stone From the Sun at the end. +1000000000 props.
0:44 Say hello to Cliff. Hi Cliff
MOTHER OF GOD! JAMES! SO POWERFUL!
Most underrated song of Metallica
2:34 Immortal! \m/
Just fly away music ⚡⚡ Voice , James , voice〰🎶〰🎶
3:33 if i did that i would never be able to talk again
and thats the reason why he cant sing like that right now hahah
Perfect example of the classic Hetfield roar. That's the power in his voice that make him my 3rd favorite vocalist of all time in any genre!
This is actually the concert where he destroyed his voice it's when they play the unforgiven where you can here James' voice "die"
The cliff spirit is here in that concert 😮😱😲
0:45 dude kinda reminds me of cliff lol
@@FamilyGuyRoks6 bruh same 😳
3:21 I think Lars broke a stick
An Hero because tooo fucking heavy 🤘🏻😭🤘🏻
Both sticks look in tact to me
@@marselluswallace6 i think they say because he stopped hitting the hi hat and then the snare for a few bars
no, he fucked up because he started playing the wrong part
Best song Metallica ever made....wish they would perform it in a modern setting with all the best cameras and mics like they have in their other 2018 videos.
fallen city , living DEAAAAATTHHH!!! fuck yeah james
Shougonate "Did 'n didn't once possessed..."
I don't know why, but this video is one on my favorite of Metallica. Powerful.
@6:04 Jamesy nails that ferocious roar that goes right through me, & gets my heart pumping with Awwwwe!!! His roar Is his signature, That's what separates him from anyothers, I love that deep grunge roar!!! I'd probably pass out if I was up front, & He roared like he did, They'd have to bring me too, I'd be thinking I was having a heart attack, being that close to them! Those speakers are powerful, & with this heavy song, My heart be feeling like beating outta my chest, I was in the mosh pit @ one of their concerts, @ the Allentown Fairgrounds, Pa. I had to get out quickly!!! I thought I was gonna get crushed, & dam near did, But I wasn't able to talk for a week! 😆
6:21 wow... that WAH was HEAVY omg
God damn I love it when they bring out the Flying V!! Best guitar ever made 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I loved how this song tells a story and gives a vibe, its so bad ass.
0:44 cliff is a ghost
The thing that should not be live.. But why shouldn't it be live?
Cos it would be Dddddddeeeeeeeaaaaaaddddddd!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kirks solo was not nearly as intense as the album solo
0:45 Cliff Burton??
IIIIMOOOOORTAAAAAAAL
Matthieu M'Buyu
IN MAADNEEESS HEE DWEEEELSS
Fucking LARS..... Was a BEAST....love his drumming.
And METALLICA is the thing that should be in your life.
Metallica is fkn Beast!! i fkn love them and im glad i got to see them live last year here in montreal, i only wished that they had played this song as i was singing the lyrics forever until the show came up... Love MetallicA!!
Umm... sorry everyone... 1989 at Seattle was the most brutal.... they killed it!
no way 3:30 ...
Tuned to C#, fucking Heeeeeaaaaavvvvyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!.Should do Sad but True in C#!!!!!!
@@tulyar1043 According to guitar teacher and builder Ben Keller on youtube this song is played D standard
@@OlviMasta77 studio is D standard but live might be C#
Wow that's low for the boys up until St. Anger :o @@johngray5477
I really really love Kirk's guitar solo at 6:46.

I like the perfect angle James' right hand does while holding the pick! This is the reason for his unique sound!
The Kirk we all deserve
This concert from Basel 1993 sounds great
0:44 Cliff lives
Alex Booth 2:33
It's the songs like this that made them GREAT
Definitely one of my favorite Metallica songs!!!! #deckermusic6 was here!!!!! ❤️🤘
I love that RUclips knows I want to watch the same song from a different concert next.
I wish that one Day they Will come to my little Island, love you guys
Just from this performance you can tell James is exhausted, but it's still badass af.
they are some pretty good performances of this song in our days ;) And I love how At the end of the song Lars starts playing a slow beat, and it sounds awesome !
This is the sh*t! awesome!! from time where they heavy and Lars could really kick ass :) Miss this Metallica, miss Jason ..
Thx for a upload! :):D
All of these bands are getting older but they are still rockin maybe Lars isn't as good as he used to be that's normal
Did you say "Miss Metallica" and "Miss Jason" :D
@Vodkannibis They didn't play this song between 2013 and 2019
Fuck at 1:09 when it shows James and everyone in the Crowd head bang gets me every time.
no wonder why james blew up his voice
He isn't dead. He never died.
He just didn't want to continue touring so they created a buzz.
3:33 Fuck yeah!!
RickGrimes41 a
Best Metallica tune
Just playing this fast and tight, which they still do btw, just blows my mind hearing it. Even seeing it! \m/
Wow thats awesome
Really cool echo effect for singing
Awesome footage!
On do the heaviest songs they wrote and they don't play live that often
Great song, but Sad But True is heavier
fight fire with fire is the heaviest and thing that should not be live is heavier than sad but true imo
+lucky dominguez lol, your out of your skull
lucky dominguez lol yeah, no it isn’t. This song has atmosphere and heavy chugging riffs with a heavy ass beat, that automatically makes it heavier than Sad But True. SBT has no atmosphere, it’s just a slow beat and riff. Being heavy is more than just how slow you can play, hard you can hit and guitar chugging. Harvester is heavier than SBT too because on top of a pounding ass beat and awesome heavy riffs, it has that creepy ass dark atmosphere emanating from the fucked up lyrics.
@@luckydominguez2654 Lol, not even close, bruh. Sorry.
I'm never going to post anything but "RIP Cliff" to any Metallica video I watch from this point forward, March, 23 2024
RIP Cliff Burton
0:44 , WHAT THE FUCK ? ;O
That was great. Miss the old days!
Thanks dude
The tuning of this song back in '93 was in D-Flat (Db), also known as C-Sharp (C#), as it has always been since '86
Oh.. My.. GOD THEY HAD HAIR!!!
i hate when people say lars is lazy these days, so im gonna clear this up. Lars today is a truely AMAZING drummer. the difference between now and then was back then he wasnt a drummer... he was a human metronome
i feel like james saves his voice for this song because the rest of the concert is voice was weak
I can see why. Two years of nonstop touring fucked his voice.
@@ElTigre12024 That was the biggest mistake they ever made
His voice was destroyed
Disposable heroes sounded pretty good
Possibly
Es sin duda una de las mejores canciones de estos paletos
Y de las más infravaloradas
@KasMarius Thank you so much! I've been trying to figure it out for so long...
this song is awesome
God damn this song sounds great live
man..lars was a beast at drums when he was younger...he tried to kill his drums....what age does to a man..now he not as powerful and fast as he used to be...
Man I miss all these old tones
They sound so good here.
This epitomizes metal for me.
I LOVE THIS :D
Duuuuuuuude, what a voice ..
I love Switzerland. Kinda wish I was there now
That guitar tone :O Wish they get back to this tone
Back when the world was a good place and Metallica was Metallica.
saw this show in 92 at the spectrum in philly
he's voice is perfect in this show .
Pure metallica
Great , strong ⚡⚡
i dont care what anyone says metallica will always rule
Can't lift this song
It's too HEAVY
i miss that drum set soo much
No smartphone holders in the crowd! I wish i could experience a concert like that nowadays ;)
Everyone was killing it
metallica i love number 1 the world
Raw sound!
i like that
