California tried to ban red 40 (and a couple other I can't remember right now) because it's been linked to so many negative effects on the human body...people LOST THEIR SHIT over not having artificial colored skittles because "I'm in America, I should be able to do whatever I want". Never mind that most the chemicals they were trying to ban from our food are already banned in multiple countries for good reason. Didn't help the news posted "CA to ban Skittles" instead of "California to ban artificial chemical colorants," so people got wild, making it seem like the government was trying to control them 😑

Those small issues you take medicine for is probably your body warning you before something bigger happens that's hard to reverse.

It's easy to talk about sugar content, but one major factor that many (mostly Americans) don't realize is how numb our taste buds become after decades of consuming high sugar content. Our sensory to sweet becomes the norm, so we don't even notice it anymore. After traveling in recent years (thank you covid & remote work) I've learned to "retrain" my taste buds to identify when something is too sweet. I used to work at a dunkin and I swear i overheard the manager once tell the assistant manager “if they ask for 2 servings of sugar and 2 of creamer, give em 2 1/2, tastes better”. Not only that, but Dunkin would also require the manager to profit a certain margin, and maintain speediness in the drive through. To bypass those requirements, our manager would smack a sensor right below the outside of the drive through window if the order was taking too long to make to trick it into thinking the car had already left giving us a better drive through time.
Not to mention, to help with profits, they would undercut all of our hours to avoid mandatory wage raises to force us to quit to hire new applicants, starting them at minimum wage of course.
Left over doughnuts? We were allowed to take the leftovers one day out of a week, the rest were not donated or anything they were just tossed in the trash
Oh and if we didn’t quit because if the hour cuts, simple solution they’d just fire us over the slightest inconvenience.
Dunkin was totally okay with this by the way.
