Yes, you missed a lot of good information which is generally why so many people leave the comments they do. This hobby can be very technical and in a world like today where people need 10-second-videos, you’ll miss good info. Totally understand though! I’ve been short on attention span in the past.
XRF can be fooled by a thick plating. You have to cut into the jewelry if you want to be 100% certain on an XRF. The Sigmas are good and sometimes too good, as they'll occasionally show a legit item as fake.......this is due to some silver items being cast from powdered silver. Even a trace amount of another metal that got into the batch of pure silver/gold will cause them to read as fake. You'll find that when you adjust the settings for a lower purity, it'll often read right.
The bottom line is that testing should not be limited to just one method. We have audio tests that can be done, (they can't counterfeit the tone of legit metals) as well as specific gravity, weight and dimensions.

Bought a 1 oz Gold Maple from Costco on a Monday in early March. I’m not a member so I had my son buy it online for me so I didn’t benefit from credit card cash back or member rebate, he did. Bottom line is that gold settled that day @ $2,870 CDN and I paid $2,840 CDN plus my son made off like a bandit with all the cash back 😂

Your correct about Walmart. I get a 10% discount for life at Walmart.When I tried to take my discount buying silver bars online it would not give it to me. In a round about way I figured out what you said,it was an outside vendor. If it had been walmart selling it silver in any form would qualify for the discount.

I’ve been checking the Costco gold price weekly and I can assure you the 1 ounce gold bar is always $20 cheaper than my gold and silver bullion dealer. That’s $20 before your cash back so it’s more like $40 cheaper. I’m not sure about below spot but it’s the best deal. Mind u it’s a bar and not a coin which may affect the value a little in the negative direction.
Spoiler alert! I bought a bar from them for $5 over spot.. doesn’t include the nearly $100 cash back!!!!!

I have only sold gold three times in as many years and the only time I was ever offered less for a bar rather than a coin was at a COIN SHOP! All these hacks on RUclips will have you believe that gold COINS are the only way to go and guess what, 95% of those spewing this garbage are trying to make a living selling coins! Go figure!😉 I'm only 75 now so probably don't know squat about anything but I do believe that if you have a chunk of gold or silver to sell and someone wants it bad enough, you can come to an agreement one way or another regardless of the shape of the metal! Heck yeah! The silver eagles they had about a week or week and a half ago worked out to about $31.35 each, I think, after the 'rewards'. Hell of a deal a little over a week later with the nice move up.

The people who comment that Costco is selling fakes are just… poorly educated on stacking and probably don’t wish to learn.
I have the same verifier and I've never had a problem with it. It gives me some peace of mind!

All of those are singular tools. Just like the sigma it’s just one tool. No way should anyone only be using ONE tool for counterfeit detection. Thanks for the comment!
The Sigma Verifier would be a nice layer of insurance for any serious stacker.
Smaller 90% constitutionals can be a little iffy, but all-in-all it's a nice tool to have on hand.
If you're a serious stacker, the Sigma is a must. Bought a used one on ebay for 700 and it's a blessing.
Elsewhere on the PMV website, in the specifications, it tells you how far under the surface each machine penetrates. It's not very far.
The bar/ingot wand will work on thicker coins too if you want to try it.
Most of the negative comments are from people who don’t know, haven’t read the instructions, or wouldn’t spend the $ for a Sigma PMV.
I have had one since 2016.
The bigger the wand the deeper the effect. Which is why Chuck, you probably noticed the thumbnail and exactly why I put that thumbnail whereas others would think it was clickbait 🙃

There’s a book, there’s online manuals, there’s industry professionals whom have so much experience… etc etc. The info is there for people but as you see from some of these comments, “video was too long, I had to fast forward” nobody wants to take the time and effort.

@@Spegtacular On-line trolls, what do you expect? I know someone who has 6 x 1kilo gold bars. He bought them at about $40,000 a piece. Current melt value $78,237.×× per kilo.... my own stack in Ag and Au is pretty significant as well. Over 14 years of stacking (as a hobby).

Once upon the time, Gold market in Hong Kong experienced sub par gold, no conventional methods can detect! 14k plus various metals beat all detectors. It was only discovered to be 50%gold after someone melts it! If you want to buy massive Costco Gold, please melt one, before buying a big amount. Sometimes even Costco is a victim!

The XRF is useful for getting the composition, and the metals really need to be melt assayed, then tested and/or drilled. Not so good if it's a gold encapsulated tungsten piece.
Yes! XRF shines by telling you what something is made of. Quite a cool machine!

9:50, it takes the readings from the SURFACE! It is a non-intrusive test as opposed to core readings. That is how it reads to me.
Follow along how it continues mentioning the subsurface. If it was only the extreme outer area of the surface, plating would fool it every time.
OMG. I just saw a video where this exact gold bar was fake. It was a lot wider than the real one, but it looked identical. You'd better check to make sure. Good luck.

I can't imagine sinking thousands of dollars into PMs and not having the Sigma to protect my investment. What surprised me is that the Sigma is temperature sensitive. Your result can be inaccurate if your coin is too cold. So, let your coins warm up to room temperature before testing.
My Costco is Sonoma County CA didn't have either. I looked yesterday 🤷♂️

I asked my LCS if they.use the Sigma. They kept saying they have a huge XRAY. I just use a scale, pinger, and calipers.
Ask them to see what they use.
I have the sigma pro mini. It does test through the sample. I think they've replaced it with the collector or something. Anyway it works awesome. Several people have stopped messaging with me on marketplace when I let them know I have a sigma lol. It's too bad people try to steal.

It matters where the decimal point is in relation to the nines . The farther to the left the decimal is the higher the gold content . 999.9 can be 999.900 and so on . Point 9999 is the purest not what that bar is .
The bar is 99.9999 pure gold.

While I have no doubt that you're bar is real, that particular bar is one of the most counterfeited ones on the market right now. The packaging is exact. The main difference to look for is the counterfeit is much too thick.

You said “most cases” I’m not even sure you know what you wrote at this point. The ONLY slabbed coins I’ve ever had issues with reading through slabs are 1/10 gold. Done it way too many times to say that, as you said, “it may be possible in some cases”

You can fool that machine with a clad 25 cent coin, it my (will) test as 90% silver. Check that out.
But you know that coin isn’t silver and never was silver so why are you testing it as silver? You’re basically trying to fool yourself by doing that stuff. What’s more compelling is if you test a 1964 half dollar that’s fake and it comes up as 90%. That’s when we have a problem.

I just tried buying a twenty pack of silver eagles from costco online and they were going to charge me tax. I looked up the tax laws here in utah and it says only less than 50% pure is taxed. Why do you think Costco would charge tax? I didn't get it because of that.
i've seen some reviews on costco saying they were charged tax and had to go through customer service to get it refunded, which seems like a huge hassle

I buy from all of the big name bullion shops but prefer SD Bullion, they more trustworthy to me. but it is a experience collecting silver and gold. start buying what you can afford and good luck. I clicked on three coin listings and found THREE different sellers. “Profile coins and collectibles”, “Apmex”, and “Bullion Exchanges” none are sold by “Walmart” and I’ve got no clue who Profile coins and collectibles is… that was three clicks with three different sellers on Walmart. I’d ask, how the heck was I wrong? 😅
every time you say credit cards are good deals and casco is at spot even though you say you pay out the ass for membership i gotta stop listening to you your not right. unless you own a restaurant and buy things in bulk this is not a good deal idc who you are.

if you're buying silver and gold, i'm sure it's worth it. the max cashback yearly for the executive membership is $1000, while the executive membership is $120. if you're gonna buy the silver and gold anyway, that's $880 free money every year.

example you only get cosco membership for the spot gold deal you don't plan on buying things in bulk you are loosing money on the membership more than you are making it back from your ((spot)) gold price.
