They talked a lot about Howard’s evolution in the 2010s but no mention about how O&A changed their format to be more of a hangout with comedians and paved the way for podcasts. Also how it played a huge role in comedians becoming hugely popular to this day

Vice acting like champions of morality is hilarious, they also completely and totally ignored that they got away from the shock jock shit for the most part and like you said turned into a podcast before they existed and were a springboard for guys like Burr and Patrice. Howie evolved into the speech police and his politics allowed them to pain him in a better light. They’re all shitbags but at least ant can be a funny shitbag lol

If I wanted to listen to O&A vs Howard I would just look up them trashing him on youtube (Emily Stern "my vagina" bit, anyone?). To be honest, the show got better after they dialed back the shock jock stuff and it was more funny discussions and ball busting. That's probably why Opie felt he couldn't contribute as much later on.
Opies only talent was not having a soul. No emotion. He’s a literal npc. So ya once it was more based on personality he had nothing. I wouldn’t really consider Opie a sentient person. He’s never displayed an ability to actually think. He just reacts. He saw pain got laughs so he inflicted pain. He’s like a pigeon trained to collect pellets. But it’s not real thought.
My memories of Opie cursing out and mocking callers is so strong, Anthony just talking to a caller feels off.
My 86 year old father still talks about how hard he laughed at the "Anthony yelling at callers" clip I played him a few years ago.

I started listening to O&A and Howard Stern just back 2018. So I want to see all that beef stuff.

I would say 2012 is when he started his PC rampage using different names for Gary and Wendy. Banning Gilbert and many of his callers. No more pornstars or sexist questions. The Stern became a shit show.
O&A became unlistenable because of O&A’s fighting. Jim Norton tried to make the show better but it was never the same once Patrice O'Neal died. O&A became different people and they just hated each other. Opie never defended Anthony after his firing and that was the end. Opie still thinks he is better than Anthony but his arrogance is laughable.
Howard sold out more than 2 decades ago. His prime was 3-4 decades ago, now. 2004 / 2005 Howard was claiming and incessantly yapping about how Bush was censoring Howard. He was already off the rails by that point.

The hardest I remember Jimmy laughing was Ant talking like a guy who had his face burned off. You could hear him talking stiff lipped with his mouth to the side.

I just watched the episode. The funniest part was the guy at the end saying "Anthony just called a black woman the N word on his show last week!" The entire thing actually made Opie look worse. All they really had on Anthony is that he's racist, which is like, who cares? So am I
One of my only living heroes. Spare me the pedo jokes, nobody has made me laugh anywhere near as much as Ant has over the years, and some of it was during a time when it took a lot to make me smile.

Man he’s right, some of the moments of the o&a when opie wants to be cool or funny is so cringe.
He's right about the Vice Documentary, it made me more a Fan of O&A and Anthony. I was too young to listen to O&A and My Great-Grandpa was the only one with XM Radio in his GMC Envoy and he only listen to 40s On 4 and Siriusly Sinatra, that's it. I couldn't listen to O&A but that god their fanbase has recorded and posted old episodes.

That caller was spot on and I completely agree with everything he brought up but I would still love to see the O&A Show return. Obviously it is all just fantasy seen through rose tinted glasses because the well documented issues were very real and the show could only ever implode but even a bad O&A Show is 100% better than anything else around today.
I still say they have to make Spuds Buckley: the Movie.

The documentary didn't mention O&A losing popularity and all their FM radio stations.
Ope said that after seeing the trailer he was up all night thinking what would happen if they got back together and took down Howard. He said it probably wasn't possible because Ant had chosen to do a radio show that is "obsessed with race." Can we acknowledge that being a shock jock is about saying shocking things, even about race? There were even some early NEW shows where Opie made "shocking" comments about race. Gregg seemed very flattered by the documentary. Who wouldn't be after all these years?
I think the people who gave the doc the green light were Super Fanboy's of O&A back in the day and that feud with Howard was their life's pinnacle and so the recreation of those images is the only thing giving them a boner these days.... otherwise who's been asking for that nostalgia

As a casual fan of O & A and Stern I enjoyed the Vice two parter. Howard comes out looking like the biggest asshole, and O & A is the smallest. His attacks against Mancow and the Zookeeper and then how cheap he was with his own staff. Apologizing to A-List celebrities but not his fellow shock jocks where he was much more harsh. Completely out of bounds to his fellow shock jocks.

I listen to the O and A clips often and he ran the show well. He provided the structure for Jim and Anthony to play off.
He had good instincts (knew when to move on, go to callers, let comics riff etc) and good ideas (Jocktober).
He has a hateable personality but that sort of worked with the dynamic. If he wasn't doing something right, they wouldn't have been the number 1 show.
I understand the criticism, but it should never become disrespectful slander.
Like the disrespectful slander Opie does about Ant , Jimmy and EVERYONE ELSE that he used to work with
Opie didn't create Opie and (Anthony). Anthony's name is part of it.
Opie didn't run the show well, he controlled a soundboard, (with little intuition), and watched a clock to time intros and breaks. And those intros were written so he could study all night, and once he read off the paper he went quiet and let others carry the show.
Opie didn't have good instincts at all. He would derail flows constantly. When he went to callers it was because the interns were feeding him their lines through computer monitor, and because Opie couldn't contribute, he would have callers interrupt with a joke Opie thought was funny while everyone else struggled to get back on track.
Opie's personality wasn't "fun" hateable because it was real hate, and not based in comedy. It's why Opie's personality didn't fit the room with all the other personalities.
The only slander would be ignoring all of these basic things that are present in almost any O&A clip on the internet.
Anthony is starting to look more like Joe Biden every day. The hair plugs are starting to walk away I guess. If his forehead gets any bigger, he’ll start to look like this😮. One good thing though, it distracts from looking at his nose getting huge from all the alcohol. Deep down, I’m sure 🙎♂️ still loves you.

I’m not really an Opie hater, I do think he’s a bit delusional and pathetic these days - but he’s made me laugh plenty of times and he definitely did contribute to the show being so successful. You can’t argue otherwise. Ant is definitely the MVP, but Opie had a hand in it. 75%/25% maybe.
