The problem with the parchment paper is you need to put the waxy side on the canvas. I didn't realize there was two sides and my paper stuck to the canvas and ruined it. Please tell people which side of the parchment paper to put on the canvas.
Kathy Gambsky Oh no!! My parchment is non-stick on both sides, so that didn’t occur to me. I will pin your post in hopes that it will prevent problems for people. 😢
Kathy Gambsky Parchment paper doesn’t have wax- it’s why you can bake with it. Wax paper is different all together. Check the box and see which one you actually have. It’s a common mistake, they are sold in the same area in stores. I’m sorry your project was ruined.🤗💜
Kathy, I just read a dp hack put out by Artful Diamonds(on Pinterest).Use baby wipes(yes baby wipes) to clean off debris, pet hair, etc. They say that the sticky will return to the canvas when dry. I have some on hand for stamping so I'll give it a try when necessary. It's worth a try...☺ UPDATE: On 6/6/20 (that's when I viewd the video)Mrs. Crochet & Coffee sez to use a blow dryer after you use the baby wipes. Will give this a try as well😎
I have been diamond painting now for about six years. One of the most valuable lessons that I learned was purchasing a good straightening tool. I have compared crooked drills to those I have taken the time to straighten and the images are sharper, and look nicer up close. The best straightening tool I have ever purchased is a thin metal tool versus the plastic ones. I straighten as I go in sections. Then I take a look at the overall painting when I am done and again straighten where I see it is needed. I guess I am a bit of a perfectionist. This tool is invaluable to me. I love your video, thank you so much.
I blame my sister as she got me my first one and now I can't stop lol but I've now moved onto personalised ones of pets and family and things but I love them and I'm pretty quick at them 1 tip I've found get a light pad they are great I have 1 with a stand u just clip them together and away u go
@@cazthompson7406 I had problems leaning over a table for very long. An artists table easel box is great for small ones, but, my drafters table well be here tomorrow. You need something like that for DAC sized paintings
Thank you for the tips I'm just getting started, my adult daughter loves diamond painting and gave me two kits a few weeks ago, I'm disabled after a stroke she thought that I would enjoy the diamond painting hoping to help me have something to interest me and help with the long hours of sitting doing nothing faith my timeI'm excited about getting started!
One thing I have learned is that if you have an area that has confetti (lots of different colors together) in it use a bigger try like cookie sheet or something to hold multiple trays of colors at one so you do not have to keep changing colors so often.
When working with a clear adhesive cover paper, I lightly score the clear adhesive in smaller sections. That way who don't have to remove large sections of the protective cover all at once.
Save the paper from the canvases that you have finished, cut into squares they’re just right for the job. At least then you know it will release easily and not stick to the canvas.
The one thing as an experienced dp'er I have learned is something for the new diamond painters. Start slow. Everything you need to do a diamond painting is included in the kit. Make sure this is a hobby you REALLY want to do, in the long term. Except for a light board, don't go out and buy everything you see or hear about for diamond painting right away. Make sure you really want to make it a long term hobby, before you invest a lot of money into all the accessories. I have had people sell me boxes full of dp stuff, because they weren't as interested as they thought.
Tina Johnson Those are great points! I find that all must haves at first were minimally expensive, just my easel and light pad. Part of the joy for me has been collecting over time when things really speak to me. 🥰 Thanks so much for sharing your wisdom!
@@Thenekkedkittygamer I bought a diamond kit from DIY 5D diamond painting and the drills were organised in little baggys for you,you can just line them up in an old butter container, until you know whether your going to stay with the hobby or not
I started my first one a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Most of the stuff I had before hand since I'm really into art. I already had a light board and a box to put stuff in (I was planning to paint it and still am). I have a paint palette to put multiple colours of drills (ones with dips in lol). The only thing I have bought for the paintings are the actual canvases and some more tools. So even is I end up not being so into it, it's really not that big of a deal.
I have watched many tutorials on diamond painting since I completed my first project and waiting for my second project to arrive. I was a little late to the party. I had never even heard of this craft until 2 weeks ago and came across a booth at a craft show. Yours is one of the best I've watched! Your voice is very calming and easy to understand. Your focus is on the tutorial and not on yourself. I had seen many of your tips in other videos, EXCEPT the copyright one! That's VERY important to me as well and now I will be checking! Thank you for taking your time to share valuable information with all of us!
I am so glad you are enjoying yourself, Rebecca!! I find it to be such a zen activity as well. It has really helped to save my sanity during Covid. (I love your username by the way!!) :)
I have only been diamond painting for about 3 weeks and have made the mistake of unknowingly ordering a few paintings that weren't licensed. A good friend of mine is an artist and I asked if I could get a custom of one of his pieces of art, after that I just couldn't imagine not having the artists permission to use their work. Thank you for supporting artists and using your platform to spread the message. ❤
I just wanted to commend you on your videos. You have the most warm, friendly, calm, voice I have ever listened to. I also love the way you do your closing send off :) you are a treasure in the world of diamonds
I watched several dp videos b4 starting. That way I knew what I was in for. Another hint I learned: if the dp is small (25cm x 25 cm) go w/round drills. But the thing that helped a bunch is a chart that I made showing centimeters to inches. Did it by 5's (5cms, 10 cms etc.) So I could envision how big it it would be. Now I automatically order 45cm & up. I have a 50cm x 70 (75?) cm to do. Plus I do squares cuz I love detail. Some only came in round drills though. From RUclips I learned how to convert pens into dp pens.So to sum up, I adapted some things for doing dp, the rest I got from Dollar Tree. You do not have to buy everything and you don't have to buy it all at once🤩
Great tips! And you're right! We don't always have to have the brightest, shiniest, newest, trendiest gadgets. There is a lot of joy in creating and adapting things on our own. :)
I really liked this and Her attitude and personality are great. I have not started my first one yet, watching a lot of these first and really like this one and her manner
I found by mistake that cheap parchment paper will not pull up clean. Don't know if this has happen with others or I just bought way toooooooo cheap :) Won't do that again.
It has to be NON STICK parchment paper. They are not all the same. I have been using it for almost 2 years and never had a problem. Learned about it on youtube.
Lonie Redd True! I have tried two brands of parchment paper/non-stick baking paper. One pulls out clean. The other one is very difficult to pull out, and if I probably left it stuck on the canvas for awhile it would have been impossible to pull out without tearing.
I just started my first painting. Getting the air out of any wrinkles in adhesive will be invaluable as I bought a couple of cheaper paintings from Amazon that came folded in half or thirds. This tip will save me much hassle and frustration I’m sure. Wonderful video and new subscriber!
I really appreciate your suggestions on getting comfortable such as table and exercise tips and also the light pad. I never knew that adhesive will rise making the drill look lifted so that was a good tip with the little knife.
Thank you for this very beneficial video!! Even though I have been doing this almost two years, I found it helpful. My first DP was a Diamond Dotz, so I was lucky with the quality. I then began to research for as much information as I could find. I was lucky in my research and probably missed out on mistakes I could have made. Thank goodness for wonderful people like you who are willing to give your time to help others. Thank you Jessica, you are a true gem in the Diamond Painting world.
Lori Willits Thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement! It is wonderful people like you that make my channel so much fun! I am glad you enjoyed the video, and I look forward to seeing you here again. 😀
Do you have a suggestion on a certain board for lighting or a table for crafting? I just started doing this a couple of weeks ago and I find it very calming but it does take a little bit of organization and the table I'm working on it isn't the best and I don't wanna put it all over my kitchen table. What do you think?
Awww, welcome to this fun hobby, Beth!! I am so excited that you're having a great time! We're all addicted here 😉, and so it's fun to welcome new friends to our community!!
Really good tips! I’ve tried diamond art once (a friend had a bunch and generously gave me one to try out) and I’m planning on starting it as a new hobby because it helps my head relax from constant thoughts (ADHD). Your videos have given me better insight on what to try next and I’m currently saving up to order one along with a pen and a small tray :) can’t wait to try it again! Keep up the great videos!
I just started my first two diamond paintings this Easter sunday and finished today luckly I watched alot of RUclips videos befor ordering them insted of just jumping into doing one
I LOVED this video! I am working on my very first Diamond Painting and I'm hooked - EXCEPT for the fact that I can only do a small bit of "painting" before I am in terrible pain. I never thought about getting an adjustable easel or drafting table and how it would help with that issue! I was so excited about this new hobby that I bought five other kits - which I wasn't going to be able to use because of the pain factor. So THANK YOU for that excellent tip! I ALSO was very interested in hearing about the different glues which come on the kits. I was wondering if you seal your finished projects? I watched a couple of videos about sealing before I saw your "7 Hints" video. And finally - thank you for pointing about the licensing issues. It is something that hadn't occurred to me, and I will keep my eyes open from this point forward!
Hi, Nancy!! I am so glad this was helpful! I had terrible neck issues before I started using my easel, so I hope this helps you! :) I still have to alter the angle regularly and make sure I can rest my elbows on the table, but it has really helped. :) If I'm doing canvases from really reputable companies I typically don't seal. I usually save sealing for canvases I'm not positive will hold up well. :) Thanks for hanging out!
thank you for defending small artists and reporting stolen work! I know small artists who have had art stolen and put on ali express, but since they are small, they can't afford to fight a large company with lawyers. This is my first diamond painting and I am so glad to have found your channel!
I recommend that new dpers go back and watch videos. I watched every video that I could find before I made a purchase, of course back then, there were a lot of informative videos not just unboxings, but you can learn so much, even from unboxings If you listen.
Claudette Jones That is great advice! There are creators with so much wisdom to offer in our community. I learned so much from Ella at Kickin' Cancers Butt and Diamond Painting when I started. She is a fount of wisdom! 😀
If using parchment paper make sure you get the double sided parchment paper. Then you won't have to worry which side to put down on your painting. Thanks for the list of stores. I only knew for 3 on your list. Will check out the others.
Thanks for the tips. Especially that last one because I'm always looking at sites for new diamond paintings and I've never even thought that they might be stolen images or art. I'm all about giving credit to the artist because I know how hard they work to create their masterpieces and I have so much respect for their talent. I'll be sure to check from now on to see that I'm not buying stolen art .
Thanks for your informative guidance,I have now completed my first medium sized canvas after you came up in my feed,I would never have tried this hobby if it wasn’t for your encouragement and advice, now I’m hooked ( not only on crouching) ,thanks for reminding us all to check out the copyrights on our canvas ,I’m sorry to say I didn’t check as I bought in eagerness from Amazon,This hobby is saving my mental health during this horrible epidermic as I’m sure it is for many of us ,I’ve encouraged the least likely friends to check your channel out to start their journey in diamond art ..It’s very positive to mention taking breaks and in my case I can’t leave the house so I jog in the house and try to run up and down the stairs 🤪keep safe to you and all your subscribers 🙏🏽😷
katt Aw, Kat!! Thanks so much! I am so glad that diamond painting has brought you joy. Thanks for being a valuable member of this little community and take good care of yourself! ❤️
I wish I would have known how much my dog would love the little diamond jewels 😂 she’s always sniffing them when I put them in the tray and they get stuck to her nose!😂
11:32 I can’t express enough how important exercise is. I have severe SI joint problems and muscle weakness from being too inactive and sitting all day for studies. It’s hard to get that strength back after it’s gone and your bones are not supported.
I just bought a 30/40cm diamond painting of two cats siting on and tree with the background being very beautiful with lots of different colors I'm new to diamond paintings and I'm so excited to get started on my first painting! I hope I will still be able to enjoy the details with such a small canvas
Hi, I enjoyed your video. I purchased my very first dp and waiting for it arrive. I am trying to learn as much as I can so I can start and enjoy doing it. Thank you for all the videos and thank you for all your followers that are also willing to help newbies.
Hi, I just did my first diamond painting last night and havre one more to do. Today, I began Googling info and came across this video. OMG! Thank you for the list of where to buy and most of all about the Number Seven tip. So good to know this before I invest my $$$ on canvases. I would venture to say that since I got both my prints thru a site last summer for really cheap, they are copyrighted and are not legal. Oops! I just know the larger image is one I’ve seen all over the internet so never gave a thought to copyright issues. Now I know that I enjoy this craft, I will look for authentic canvases which list the author, from the sites you listed. Again Thank you for this video. I just got my small light board and only need to invest in the artist table. Which I can use for all my card making projects also.👌🏻❤️💜👏🏻🌷
Hi, Kathlene! Welcome to the addiction - it is great to have you! We all have a few of these oopsies in the beginning (I know I did!), but all we can do is our best, and I love having ethical people like you on the channel! :) I wish you all the best with your diamond paintings!
Thank you for supporting artists by using licensed work. Throughout the crafting industry, many undermine artists and designers by purchasing “cheaper” products. We all like a great buy, but not at the expense of artists or designers that are the backbone of the industry. Thank you for your ethical stance.
R Fatimah Jafri Thank you!! I agree - it’s often appealing to buy cheaper, but you get what you pay for, and the artist often gets nothing. 😢 Thanks for your ethical stance as well! 😀
Hello, what do you do with the left over diamonds? Also would love to see a video on the various ways on how to frame your finished project and a review on where to find the best frames at the best price. Love your channel thank you!
Most people save any left over diamond drills for any possible shortages on future paintings. But make sure to label them with the DMC # as that should be consistent across kits.
@@ggny5108 not necessarily. I bought a kit and part way through I began running out of diamonds. I contacted the seller and they sent me a replacement kit. Unfortunately the diamonds I needed were a few shades different and not really close enough to blend in even though it was the same painting. I ended up buying replacement diamonds that matched better from another company. I love square drills but I've had shortages in most every kit I have purchased.
Sorry I missed this question, but I see my community gave you great answers! :) DP manufacturers typically buy their drills from an outside source, and often these drills have slightly different dye lots. Often the variation isn't too extreme, but occasionally two of the same DMC colors can be vastly different!
Being the victim of copy infringement of my own artistic designs, I research products to avoid infringing on others. That's exactly what brought me to your video. I'm very confused why, on the original Paint By Diamonds website, there's a canvas called 'Golden Flowers' which is very clearly stamped 'Zhui Star' and that same image is on many other dp websites titled differently. I'm just too dang excited to start diamond painting & I know I'll love it! I really appreciate your informative video, along with others I've viewed to research the craft before beginning. Literally my only holdup till now is finding quality non-infringing products.
Hi, Riki! I am sad to hear you've been the victim of this too. There are a handful of diamond painting manufacturers that produce the vast majority of canvases and then distributors sell them all over the world under various names. Because these images are overwhelmingly unlicensed, multiple manufacturers may use the same image and multiple resellers may end up calling it whatever they wish. Never an attribution to the artist or an acknowledgment of the license in the case of stock art. It is so frustrating! If you're looking for a place to start with quality, licensed images, Diamond Art Club, DIY Moon Shop, Treasure Studios Art are among my favorites. I hope that helps! :)
Thank you for these tips! My first kit is arriving on Wednesday. It's from a reputable cross-stitch company that has made some of its kits available as diamond paintings (and, as you pointed out, the name of the artist is on the webpage) That's maybe another source to to consider, and a cross-stitch or needlepoint pattern is already designed to look good at a small size, unlike a photograph converted into a chart. I've been dismayed at some of the total rip-offs of art that I've seen online. My kit has square drills so I'm going to watch your placement video next :-)
I personally really appreciate your soapbox. Keep it up! This advice is so helpful even just generally when considering image copyright. Thank you ♡ (and on a side note, learning about public domain and Creative Commons is very interesting and important!)
Good video. As far as the squares vs rounds, if you get. 30x40cm in squares, then you would need to get a 40x60 in rounds to get the detail that you would get in the 30x40 square. Also I wished that before I purchased so many square diamond paintings, that I should have bought only one square and one round to see which one I enjoyed doing the most. I have I think $400 dollars worth of kits in my closet that are squares that I will never do, because I found out that I love doing rounds so much.
Thanks so much. I just finished by third diamond painting o I am fairly new to this craft. I am so enjoying it . I am so glad I founf your video today it is so helpful. The one thing that really bothered me was about artisdt painting. I had no idea to look out for whether they were being used legally or not. Learned a whole lot more but that was one that really touched me. Thanks so much. I will continue to watch you.
Thanks so much, Pamela! Welcome to this wonderful hobby! You are definitely not alone in regard to the copyright issue. I had no idea when I first started and purchased so many canvases I now regret. :( But all we can do is make different choices once we're informed and move onward and upward, right? Thanks for your kind words, and a warm welcome to you!
I just started diamond painting and it’s so relaxing! Could you talk more about the rendering software and how to make your own custom diamond painting? Also the best places to buy the individual drills etc - for your custom paintings. I really want to try to do my own painting - but I don’t know how to begin. Thank you so much.
1, I wish I had known just how addictive this craft is. I'm totally hooked on it. My friends and family think I'm nuts. 2. How to do the checker board technique with square drills. I use non-stick baking paper, (not wax paper), to replace the clear plastic cover. It works fine for me. I find it more flexible than parchment paper and i can cut it to whatever size sections i want.
@@tinyworldsofwonder if is! I can tell when I have been diamond painting too many hours. I've woken up with my hand moving like I'm applying drills to the canvas in dreaming about lol!
Thank you!! Moving forward I will check to see if the paintings are licensed. I never thought about that. I have a bunch of them from Temu so who knows! Thanks for the video!
Just finished my first diamond painting, im HOOKED! I got a harder one not even thinking anything, it wasnt a large one and it wasnt a beginner kit, 23 colors, 9650 drills. This took me about 7 hours total. Complete satisfaction when i finished a few minutes ago but now i need to frame it, and its an odd size! 12.6”x20.5”, not gonna be easy to find one
Awesome! It is so addicting isn't it? The framing is always quite the conundrum! I have had several requests for videos on this, but I'm not sure I've sorted it out myself yet. LOL!
Tiny Worlds of Wonder i dont want to spend a small fortune framing them because within the week ill have 3 complete, im halfway through my second one that i started yesterday, its only a 12x12 though, not full drill either. I was thinking the thin strips of wood from the hardware store, a hand saw, wood staples or glue and posterboard, of course double sided tape and paint, but im sure i could throw something together that looks pretty decent on the odd sizes that i cant find at the store. Even the smaller baseboard trim would work i think, ill have to think about this some more!
YES to the comfortable area!!! I started on my kitchen table. Being autistic, 6'4" and having had 2 failed back surgeries, after the first session (I sat for about 4 hours with breaks every hour--thanks to my husband for nipping at my heels and getting me off my butt) I didn't sleep the whole night for the pain and swelling in my legs and feet. The next day when I sat, my shoulder and neck were agony. So, I asked him to get my old drafting table from our storage barn. We cleaned it up, raised it as high as it will go (which makes it about 4 inches higher than our kitchen table) put me a good wooden chair at it and now I can sit much more comfortably. I'm starting my first ever square drill art as soon as it gets here tomorrow. Thank you for your suggestions, I've only been at this for about six months. I'd also like to say...I bought my first, idk, 10-12 kits from HL "Leisure Arts", which is a subsidiary of Diamond Dotz. Looking back...I can only hope their art wasn't pirated. I felt just awful hearing that. I've graduated to Diamond Art Club now, I absolutely LOVE them, and I took a snapshot of your list so that I can look at those companies, too. Thanks again, and happy dotting!
Ooh, yikes! I'm so glad you've found an arrangement that is more comfortable now. It really is vital! As for the licensing thing, all we can do is be cognizant once we know, so kudos to you for caring about the issue. Happy diamond painting! :)
Ty for the tip on getting the glue flat, I just did my first painting and it came ok for my first one but I definitely was a lil disappointed when I seen it wasn’t as sparkly as it could be and than I realized that was the issue lol.
Oh shoot, Jackie! I have had the same experience for sure. I have two big canvases with big ripples in them because I didn't know at first to flatten them. :( I'm glad the video was helpful!
I am so glad you mentioned #7! I could not agree more! I always try to educate other diamond painters on this subject and I find myself messaging artists weekly to notify them of companies illegally selling their art. We are so lucky that these artists share their beautiful talents with us and it’s frustrating that companies will steal their hard work to make a profit! Don’t step off your “soapbox” friend! These wonderful artists need us to help them in this battle of art theft!
I am new to this and never even thought about copyright! Thank you so much for this info. I have only purchased two paintings thus far but will be sure to look into this further. Great info you shared here!
I didn’t know that size was something to consider... I bought a 15 by 20 , I wish I bought something bigger but this will be my first time so lesson learned
I'm with you on the opaque cover . The four paintings with it were ruined and I really hate the foam roll . It damages the paints to the point , that I can't fix .
I'm soooo with you - I absolutely hate them at this point! I don't even bother ordering them anymore in my climate because they all end up wrinkling. :(
THANK YOU for this video :) I had long wondered if this might be a nice hobby for my 95yo grandmother whom is very creative...however upon watching your video I know these intricate designs would be quite difficult for her. HOWEVER! I DID Find some small cartoon animal ones for kids on Amazon and ordered them for us to try together :) She may enjoy trying it or at the very least seeing them being done if she can't manage. :)
CannaClarawrr Aww, that's amazing!! Great idea to look into those first! She may also enjoy some of the special drill mandalas or bookmarks that have slightly larger gems. I hope you have a blast!
I wish that I had known about multi placers, custom pens, and larger trays. I single placed a large canvas with that skinny pen. It was a real chore at times...
Thanks, Susan!! An easel may help quite a bit! :) I'm sorry for your pain. I find I have to adjust the angle frequently and break up my sessions to be sure I don't get too stiff. :)
Thanks for the tips, esp no 7, regarding infringement. I have been very doubtful re some kits that are being sold on Shoppee (from China) that are going for less than USD4 (with free shipping!), for a 20cm x 20cm. I have been watching quite a few videos re diamond painting, and yours is the first that mentions this important point. Some shops in Etsy do not list the artists too.
I started by doing a beginners and then became addicted to the diamond 💎 stitching. I’ve only just finished 30 by 40 peacock last night and done it with the glitter diamond beads. I received mine with the sticky clear plastic. I was afraid of getting dust or loosing the stickiness but it survived. At first I didn’t know what to do so I remembered seeing some women cutting their work into 3 strips of paper so I done this with the parchment paper. I’ll be starting on the Virgin Mary next.
I wish I had known that blu-tac works sooooo much better than any wax. (Not sure if this is an Australian product, might be called something else elsewhere). Traditionally its for sticking posters etc to walls. BUT It's brilliant for DP!!! .. I never have to refill during a session (well rarely), easy to fill, no residue, isn't messy, totally reusable, if you get some on your canvas it doesn't interfere with canvas stickiness and a little goes a VERY long way... Brilliant!! I got a white packet from IKEA.. Works like it was made for it! x ✨✨✨
Unfortunately I ordered this product and ended up only Successfully using it once or twice. Any other time I've sat there poking mad prodding very aggressively trying to get it in the pen but it acts more like gum than wax. So it doesn't break off inside I've literally fought it trying to stretch the pen through. When it did work it was very successful and long lasting, but in the end I'm a little disappointed so I guess I'll be constantly redipping on regular wax.
All your tips where helpful because I'm just starting in this craft. I bought a kit and it came with out any instuctions. So I'm kind of learning by looking at a few videos on youtube. Thanks for your tips.
One thing I wish I knew was that there is a right side of the clear plastic and a wrong side. The clear plastic will not release easily if you put it back on the adhesive with the wrong side down. If this happens, don't panic. Carefully, with consistent tension, pull the plastic off slowly and evenly. It will come off but it will not be easy to get back off. It's very important to make sure you are putting the clear plastic back on the painting the way it came off. One thing I have started doing on the paintings with the clear plastic is before I move the plastic at all, I take a small piece of washi tape or even just a sharpie and put some kind of mark on the top of the plastic. This will allow me to always know which side is up and away from the adhesive.
Thank you so much for this info! I'm new to diamond painting, just started my first one (gifted to me) and I'm already hooked! Now I know what to look for and where to look to satisfy my new obsession!
Thank you, Rose! It is a super easy and fun craft. :) The biggest pitfall generally is the prevalence of stolen artwork imported from China, but buying from reputable sellers largely eliminates that problem, along with many of the quality issues that accompany many of those companies. I'm so glad you found our little tribe! :)
I really enjoyed watching your video and thank you for the information you imparted to us. I haven’t done this craft but now, I think I’m going to do it.
Thank you so much for this video, especially tip #7. It never occurred to me to think about copyright infringement. It should have, but for some reason it didn't. I really wish I would have watched your video before I started my first painting (I had an adhesive issue and didn't know it). I do have 1 experience that probably doesn't happen with the companies you listed. I had never done a diamond painting before I received a kit as a gift. It was an image of a well-known landmark that I love. I was thrilled, but after finishing the top inch or so, I discovered that the drill kit they had sent me didn't quite match up with the color key. What I mean by this is, I had 1 set of drills in a shade that wasn't on the key at all, and many of the drills didn't quite match the color they were supposed to cover. I was okay with this. I figured it would give me a more unique contemporary picture and a funny story. However, I had not received enough of 2 colors, leaving me with a section (approximately 1-2 inches wide and all across a portion near the bottom) with no drills. I told the person who gave me the kit, and they are contacting the company they purchased the kit from. I have no idea how they are going to handle it. Had this happened to me even a decade ago, I would have let this discourage me and would have given up on ever diamond painting again. But, being a frazzled mom now, I savor the time I get to relax and let go of everything and just listen to good music (you know, the kind you can actually identify what instrument is being played). So, I have agreed to do a large painting for my sister's grand-daughter. Now that I have seen your video, I will feel much more confident doing this project for her. Thanks again.
I am so glad it was helpful! It didn’t occur to me when I started either. You’re right - your unfortunate experience wouldn’t be likely with one if these companies. I sorry that happened, but I’m so glad you didn’t give up!
Hi, can you explain to me what you meant by “parchment paper” to use when you roll back the clear plastic sheet on the canvass. Do you cover most of the sticky canvas with the parchment paper and only work on a block at a time?
That's a great question. I just pull back one horizontal section of the plastic and put a row of parchment or release paper, leaving the rest of the plastic cover on. Be sure to test your parchment paper on one tiny area of the canvas first to be sure you won't have issues with the adhesive sticking. :) I also like to save the release paper from my double sided adhesive canvases to use with my clear cover canvases. :)
Parchment paper is sold on a roll in the same grocery aisle as tin foil and plastic wrap. Wax paper is NOT the same as parchment paper. Use only parchment paper. As I wanted to play with the diamond painting and not spend a lot of time cutting, I bought parchment squares on Amazon in 4” squares as that is a good size for me (and for separating hamburger patties and rum balls).
I ordered diamond art it’s coming in on Friday I’ve been doing it for 3 ish years and I got my mom hooked on it I have over 300 paintings done and I prefer square drills Bc they make it fuller
Thanks for the heads up about the pirated images for diamond paintings! I would have never thought about these images being illegal. My daughter is an artist too. I understand where you are coming from!
Thank you thank you thank you for these tips!! I have a couple diamond painting kits but haven't actually started doing them yet and I'm soOo glad I found out about all of these super helpful tips first! 🤗🙂
Thank you so much for this video! I realize there are so many things i didn't know about diamond painting, and I have been diamond painting for over a year! lol I don't consider myself an expert in any means, but i do know the basics. So thank you so much for this informative video :)
Thanks for checking it out! There are always things to learn no matter how long we craft - I'm definitely still learning myself! So grateful for our awesome RUclips community! :)
I am so glad you mentioned the copyright infringement part. The same companies you mentioned that steal pictures for DP also steel from Stamp companies. I and a demonstrator with Stampin' Up! and they reproduce every stamp set we have and sell them for cheaper. It's disgusting that they get away with it. I really enjoyed your video. Thank you.
thank you for the info, i just found this diamond paintings and i ordered 1 then i get hooked on doing it and ordered a lot more design.. while searching on youtube i found your video,, it helps me a lot.. thank you.
I'm glad that Diamond Art Club was the first DP site I found. I knew about licensed art before I found them and was thrilled that they followed what I support. One thing I wish I knew when I started? A good drill pen makes all the difference in how much your hand will hurt after a DP session!
Thank you for the info on the copyright infringement going on with diamond art. It actually helped me a lot. I’m new to diamond art and as such wanted to start with some inexpensive paintings so I went to Amazon. I found this gorgeous picture of a dragon and purchased it up. I’m currently working on it, but after doing some more searching for other art I found that same dragon elsewhere and the dragon even has more of himself exposed depending on who’s selling the painting. Seemed fishy to me and now I’m thinking (the listing I ordered from did not mention an artist) that the art may have been stolen. I’ve since ordered from Diamond Art Club (can’t wait for that arrival!) and will check out the other sites you listed as well. Even thou this video is a year old I wanted to let you know it was very helpful for me. I will be SO much more careful when buying paintings from now on! (My own daughter is also an aspiring artist) Do you, or anyone else, know if the website coohaul is legit? It has some inexpensive art on it as well and the ability to choose canvas size and drill style. Thank you, again, SO much for this video!
Hi, Cynthia! I'm so glad this was helpful! I admire your dedication to finding licensed art. I think it says a lot about you! I made a lot of mistakes when I first started purchasing canvases that I later found out weren't licensed, but I think it's what you do next that matters. 🥰 Coohaul has a few licensed pieces, but the last time I checked, it carried many unlicensed ones as well. Thanks for checking out the video and for your comment!
Thank you for tip #7. I would never have thought there were that many illegal copy right infringing canvases. I share your passion. I hate thieves. So much so that I chased some losers that robbed the store I was at. I nearly caught them until they pulled a sawed off shot gun on me. Needless to say I let them go. Silver lining though. They caught them several years later and I was called to testify and helped put them away for 57 years. They had robbed several places. Two that I had the misfortunate of being involved with. The first one I just missed them and they shot someone, hence my chasing them unknowingly the next time. Following your tip is far safer than my solution to theft. :-) Love your videos.
Trystan, you are a fierce warrior!! Wow! I'm so glad you're safe, and I'm proud of you for standing up for others in all areas!! I'm so glad that so many companies have popped up with legally licensed art since this video was made, and I hope that number just continues to grow. Cheers to supporting artists and down with thieves!!
This is so helpful, thank you! I'm new to diamond painting after seeing a pic one of my friends sent me and felt a new hobby would be perfect since staying safe at home. Just finished my first and have another coming this month. I ordered from Staroar and believe her products fit your recommendations. My budget is extremely limited but these will be Christmas or birthday gifts so I can justify to myself buying them, lol. :)
DDA Secretary Thanks so much!! Welcome to the addiction! I haven't been able to get a response from Lucy at Staroar, but I have heard good things. 😀 I am so glad you found diamond painting!
Tiny Worlds of Wonder I first saw them on instagram. They offer multiple sizes and round or square drills. I ordered a castle in 80 x 100 cm. Last month they were featuring an artist - Lioba Bruckner. I liked the art work so I ordered two canvases. I’ve gotten confirmation that they have shipped my order. shipping is taking awhile because they ship from their factory in China. I got my Dreamer Designs intro kit today so I have projects to work on. I’m really excited about the castle! I will be happy to let you know what I think once my order arrives. The website is www.marysdiamonds.com
I received my castle finally. It's by Lioba Bruckner. Its double sided adhesive. The covering is in strips about two inches wide. This canvas is 80 cm x 100 cm, square drills. I havent unrolled it yet because I dont have a place that wide to hang it. The drills look good - I think there are 47 colors. I expect i will be ordering again. I want to work on the castle first to be certain.
I just started doing diamond paintings. I take my canvas to my bathroom and use my blow dryer on the canvas to heat it up to level up the adhesive before I start. I don't know if it's good or bad but it did help to flatten out the canvas from being rolled up. Please tell me if I shouldn't do this.
Deanne Angus I’m not sure! :) Heat does effect adhesive, but I don’t know if a hair dryer is hot enough to do damage or not. That is certainly an intriguing idea!!
Kathy Gambsky try this video. ruclips.net/video/3hkf0f-p_eE/видео.html
It's worth a try...☺
UPDATE: On 6/6/20 (that's when I viewd the video)Mrs. Crochet & Coffee sez to use a blow dryer after you use the baby wipes. Will give this a try as well😎
Are the drill pens for round drills the same as for the square drills?
I have been diamond painting now for about six years. One of the most valuable lessons that I learned was purchasing a good straightening tool. I have compared crooked drills to those I have taken the time to straighten and the images are sharper, and look nicer up close. The best straightening tool I have ever purchased is a thin metal tool versus the plastic ones. I straighten as I go in sections. Then I take a look at the overall painting when I am done and again straighten where I see it is needed. I guess I am a bit of a perfectionist. This tool is invaluable to me. I love your video, thank you so much.
I wish I had known that I was going to get hooked on doing diamond paintings.
Tonya Daniel 😂😂😂 Yessssss!!!
same haha
i’m honestly not surprised though because i’ve always loved color by number and coloring books 😊
I wish I had known that, not only would I love doing them, but, also shopping for them!!
Hi, Jane!! That is wonderful! Welcome to this very relaxing hobby. I hope you really enjoy it! ❤️
One thing I have learned is that if you have an area that has confetti (lots of different colors together) in it use a bigger try like cookie sheet or something to hold multiple trays of colors at one so you do not have to keep changing colors so often.
That is a great tip, Hannah! :)
When working with a clear adhesive cover paper, I lightly score the clear adhesive in smaller sections. That way who don't have to remove large sections of the protective cover all at once.
That is a great idea! :)
Save the paper from the canvases that you have finished, cut into squares they’re just right for the job. At least then you know it will release easily and not stick to the canvas.
Terry Evans Great idea!! I always tell myself I’m going to save my paper, and then I cut it like a kindergartener and I end up tossing it! 😂
okay yay! i was hoping that i could do this and it would work so i’m glad to hear it will
The one thing as an experienced dp'er I have learned is something for the new diamond painters.
It's so so true if you have to get something outside of the pad is a small cheap organizer for the drills
@@Thenekkedkittygamer I bought a diamond kit from DIY 5D diamond painting and the drills were organised in little baggys for you,you can just line them up in an old butter container, until you know whether your going to stay with the hobby or not
@@mandyb6422 that's awesome! Most of the shops I order from like dac have them in those little 200 packets
I've only done clear covers but I love that i can see where colors are. For small canvases, I finish one color before going to the next color
Jessi on the Go That is an awesome perk for sure! 😀🥰
Hi, Diane!! Thanks so much - that is so kind that it made my whole day! I am so pleased you found the video helpful! :)
I just started doing Dimond paintings. Doing my first one. Love it so far. It's so relaxing.
Clarissa Mitchell Thanks, Clarissa! I appreciate your encouragement and your ethics! ❤️
Same, just last night I ordered some really cheap ones (£3) with £7 shipping. On Amazon my first one was £7-£8 soooooo yeah
Rowan Brierley I started the same way. The important thing is always what we do next time I think. ❤️
I just started my first Diamond painting. I decided to watch a few videos. Thank you for the information you shared, I’ll be making less mistakes!
Marcie Nicols Hi, Marcie!! My pleasure! I am so glad this was helpful!
I just wanted to commend you on your videos. You have the most warm, friendly, calm, voice I have ever listened to. I also love the way you do your closing send off :) you are a treasure in the world of diamonds
Oh my goodness, Kim!! That is so kind! You made my whole day!! 🥰
In my opinion its in small canvases even more important to choose square if you want even a few details...
I really liked this and Her attitude and personality are great. I have not started my first one yet, watching a lot of these first and really like this one and her manner
Thanks so much, Laurie! I really appreciate that! 😀
I found by mistake that cheap parchment paper will not pull up clean. Don't know if this has happen with others or I just bought way toooooooo cheap :) Won't do that again.
Lonie Redd Uh-oh, that's good to know! I'll pin this, because I would hate to lead anyone astray! 😬
when I used parchment paper it stuck to the picture ans I had a heck of a time getting it off.
donna ford Oh no!!! Hopefully people will test a small area first. I haven’t had any issues, but I’m sure all adhesives are different! 😢
I'm so glad this was helpful to you! :) Thank you!!
I really appreciate your suggestions on getting comfortable such as table and exercise tips and also the light pad. I never knew that adhesive will rise making the drill look lifted so that was a good tip with the little knife.
I am so glad the video was helpful! Thanks for checking it out! :)
Great tips! I used to be intimidated by the square and u have to line them up perfectly
Thank you! They can be hard at first, but now I sometimes think they're a little easier to get straight than rounds! :)
Thank you for your response! I've finished one and almost done with the other, so framing is right around the corner. Here goes nothing! :))
Framing! I’d love to know more about how you do that and how a diamond painting looks after it is framed!
Thank you for your video! Great tips, I’d wish I’d known about. As my neck was my killer, and not having a good working space. Thank you! 🙋🏾♀️
Thanks so much, Unaisi! I am so glad the video was helpful to you! :)
I wish I hadn't spent so much $$ on different ways to store my diamonds. Small zip lock bags work great.
You can get boxes that hold 28 colors for $5 on Amazon
I just started diamond painting 2 days ago and I love it. I got a stitch diamond painting. It is going to look amazing when it is finished.

What sealant did you use

Hi, Christina! This issue is so important to me, and I'm so glad it connected with you too. 🥰
I watch as many videos as I can on diamond painting it helps tremendously I can’t wait to get my first painting in the mail, super excited
I realize you did this four years ago but thank you. I have learned so much from you!❤
If using parchment paper make sure you get the double sided parchment paper. Then you won't have to worry which side to put down on your painting. Thanks for the list of stores. I only knew for 3 on your list. Will check out the others.
Louise Smith Great tip, Louise! Thanks for sharing!
Amanda Lambert Thanks so much, Amanda!! I am so grateful for people like you! ❤️

This is such a great reminder. Sitting is worse than smoking for our health, and I am SO guilty of neglecting this sometimes.

Candace Vermette You are very welcome, Candace!! Welcome to our great hobby!
Great idea! I keep mine in a shoe box in labeled bags in case I’m shorted as Calliope says. Thanks for the suggestion!! 😀
@@tinyworldsofwonder for the diamonds "colors" to match other canvases, you have to buy from same company?
I wish I had known about the difference between the glues on the 5D painting.
Ooh, fun!! Yes, for sure! Thank you!
I personally really appreciate your soapbox. Keep it up! This advice is so helpful even just generally when considering image copyright. Thank you ♡ (and on a side note, learning about public domain and Creative Commons is very interesting and important!)
bonepeonies Thanks so much! I find it fascinating too! 😀
I do too...what was that list of suppliers
What are creative commons?
I go for square Drills..🌝,,, I can help you destashing with...😜
i did the same but with rounds i prefer squares and i have so many rounds and so many small kits ill never do
Excellent suggestions! 😀
MT TM all the square kits that I have are 60x80 cm.
Jo I am a square ho!!! 60x80 is my sweet spot. LOL.

Thanks so much, Pamela! Welcome to this wonderful hobby! You are definitely not alone in regard to the copyright issue.
Heather Vona Great tips, Heather!! Yes, the addiction is SO real!!
@@tinyworldsofwonder if is! I can tell when I have been diamond painting too many hours. I've woken up with my hand moving like I'm applying drills to the canvas in dreaming about lol!
In a way, 7 is actually how I found out about diamond art club. An artist I follow shared that they were having their art made into kits with them 😁
After mentioning the fakes
That makes total sense, although it's sadly so common. I'm so glad there are companies out there who deal with artists in an ethical way. 🥰
I just ordered some diamond paintings after watching your videos, thanks for the tips!!!
That is wonderful, Marta! I hope you have a wonderful time with your projects!
Thank you. I’m on my first diamond painting and your videos are very helpful. 👍🥰
My pleasure!! I am so glad this was helpful for you. Best of luck with your first painting! :)
I have never done a diamond painting, but thanks for the tips!
Miranda Brown Thanks, Miranda!! It is so wonderful having really ethical and caring people like you on my channel! 🥰
I am new to this and never even thought about copyright! Thank you so much for this info. I have only purchased two paintings thus far but will be sure to look into this further. Great info you shared here!
Thanks so much, PJ! I appreciate your openness to this information. People like you are what make this craft so awesome and supportive of artists!
Just got my first one! Thanks for all the wonderful tips!
My pleasure, Cindy! Best of luck with your painting! :)
I didn’t know that size was something to consider... I bought a 15 by 20 , I wish I bought something bigger but this will be my first time so lesson learned
Shoot, that's disappointing! We all have to start somewhere though, right? I also did a few of these small ones when I first started out. :)
Oh wow.. I luved all your tips.. I never thought that I would get hooked... You have left me more knowledgeable about diamond painting.
Thanks so much, Christine! It really is addicting, isn't it? I didn't really expect to love it so much when I started either! :)
OMG thanks so much for this video, and your other one that talks about Super Gloss Mod Podge and wiping the surface!!!!
My pleasure! I’m so glad you enjoyed! 😀
I wish that I had known about multi placers, custom pens, and larger trays. I single placed a large canvas with that skinny pen. It was a real chore at times...
Oof, Petra! I bet!! I used the skinny pen and tiny tray for my first few too, and I'm with you - a big boat and thicker pen is life saving!!
I will Start my very first diamond painting and this video was really helpfull to me. Thanks. 🇲🇽
That is wonderful! I am so pleased! ☺️
Thank you for this! I'm new and working on my first.. I do have neck issues and already my upper back is aching..need an easel! 😊 I've subscribed👍👍
Thanks, Susan!! An easel may help quite a bit! :) I'm sorry for your pain. I find I have to adjust the angle frequently and break up my sessions to be sure I don't get too stiff. :)
I couldn’t live without my easel! I don’t use a light pad but I have a goose necked Ott light clamped to the top of my easel. Works great. ❤️🇨🇦
Thanks, Stephanie! It is alarming, isn’t it? I think it’s so sad how many artists lose out on making a living through infringements like this. 😢
I was just going to order some paintings and this video really helped me you deserve a like AND subscribe also stay safe!!
Thanks! You too.
Hi, Sheila! Congrats on the finish! I think diamond art is so addicting. I hope you have a great time with your next project - it sounds lovely!
Works like it was made for it! x ✨✨✨
Amanda Kitteh That is awesome advice!! 😀
Blue tack is also called that in the UK lol
My pleasure, Paul! Welcome to this fun hobby! :)
Karen R That is an AMAZING tip!! Thanks for sharing!! 😀
Thank you so much for this info! I'm new to diamond painting, just started my first one (gifted to me) and I'm already hooked! Now I know what to look for and where to look to satisfy my new obsession!
My pleasure, Miss Aaylah! Welcome to this addictive hobby! :)
Great tips, glad I'm doing a little research before I get a painting. You make it look easy
The lightboard!!!! It changes everything!!!!
Yaaasss, it totally does!! ❤
300!! You are my hero!!
@@tinyworldsofwonder wow thanks 🙏
Thanks for the heads up about the pirated images for diamond paintings! I would have never thought about these images being illegal. My daughter is an artist too. I understand where you are coming from!
Thank you! I definitely learned this lesson the hard way after getting a copyright strike on my channel. I'm grateful for the lesson though! ❤
Thank you thank you thank you for these tips!! I have a couple diamond painting kits but haven't actually started doing them yet and I'm soOo glad I found out about all of these super helpful tips first! 🤗🙂
Hi there! My pleasure! I am so glad you found the video helpful. That makes my day! :)
Thank you.
Oh no, Dawn! I didn't realize that. That is really sad. I really can't figure out why the government can't do something to curb this.
Just ordered one! I’m so excited :)
I am excited for you! Wishing you the best of luck with it! :)
Before watching this I'd just actually ordered two pens from Jim!! ♡ I can't wait for them to come in! 😊
So exciting!!!!
thank you for the info, i just found this diamond paintings and i ordered 1 then i get hooked on doing it and ordered a lot more design.. while searching on youtube i found your video,, it helps me a lot.. thank you.
I am so glad it was helpful!! Happy diamond painting! 😀
I am in Canada and would like to start diamond painting. Can you recommend a good reliable site to order from . Thanks for you help inadvance
I'm glad that Diamond Art Club was the first DP site I found. I knew about licensed art before I found them and was thrilled that they followed what I support. One thing I wish I knew when I started? A good drill pen makes all the difference in how much your hand will hurt after a DP session!
Absolutely on both counts!! DAC has been doing the right thing all along. 🥰
Awesome...you´re SO patient putting in all those little pieces - big respect :-)))
brennerfineart Thanks!! 😂 It is a nutty hobby really! 😀
Just received my first project. Found your tips very informative. Wish me luck....lol. Thanks for the info.
That is so exciting! I am so glad this video is helping you on your journey. Have a blast with your first project!!
I Love Diamond Painting!!! Very addicting!
Sooo addicting and so much fun! ❤
Hi, super important information. Thank you for sharing. Stay safe.
Coral Gonzalez Thanks, Coral!! Please take care of yourself too!
Have you checked out Mary’s Diamonds? I’m waiting on my first order from them.
I haven't! Let me know what you think when you receive your canvases. Is that a Facebook seller or a web site?
Thank you for your tips. As a beginner I appreciate it very much.
Thanks for checking out the video, Alina! I am so glad you enjoyed it. :)
I'm ordering my first dp soon lm getting a 60x100 square full drill can't wait to get into it
marcus leslie scott Ooh, exciting!! Go big or go home!! Keep me posted on how it goes! 😀
