For me, multi-placers just don't work. I've tried using them but each time the drills end up wonky and I spend more time trying to straighten them. I too am not a specific brand kind of person. While I do love DAC, I also have kits from Paint With Diamonds where I can choose the size of the canvas and drill type. I like how that company lets you do that.
Enjoyed the rambling. I section a row with release papers and hold up the cover sheet with coverminders while I work. Then when done I drop the cover sheet back down over the whole to keep it clean. I don’t coordinate my diamond pens, just grab a large and a small to use. I don’t have any expensive pens, just Amazon ones. I do use a light pad and an adjustable arm light when painting. I like a lot of light. I do work on the canvas and turn it after reaching half way. Sometimes I have to roll it to do that. I think after you diamond paint for a while you tend to always use the way you’ve been most comfortable. I will try something new, but I won’t put a lot of money into accessories. I do always put my drills in containers. I’m a klutz and I always have a problem if I don’t. So glad to get others input on their methodology. I can always learn. Peace and love abide with you 💕
Interesting topic! I’ve got one that won’t be popular. I don’t use wasshi tape. I don’t generally section and I don’t edge the way others do. I cover the borders with small plastic rulers or old plastic gift cards. I started this with square drills which are my favorite. I found if I don’t use a slight plastic edge on the border, I can’t get a straight line. Once a few rows (like 3-4) are established straight, the rest will be also straight with minimum adjustments. Didn’t need it on round drills much, but I now do it on every kit. Once the straight line is in place, I’ll move the plastic cards/rulers up along the outer edge I haven’t worked yet. Also, I’m with you about not using a light pad. I prefer a couple of small overhead light sources attached to my work surface with flexible necks which I move as I need to get around shadows. Working on a my first square drill kit with my (non-dominant) left hand. It was even harder to line up than my first right handed square drill kit. If it hadn’t been for the plastic rulers and old gift cards, I’d have given up. I did use Washi tape once after I finished a kit to cover the sticky border and I may do that again…but only after they’re done!
I didn’t understand the washi around the edges either at first, but I get way too much lint, dust, etc. for me not to cover the edges now. I’ve seen the ruler/card trick before, but not tried it. Thanks for sharing!!
Daphne...Could you please do a short step by step tutorial type video on how you make your own DP release papers? I wish you'd make & sell them, because I cannot find any pretty pink & purple "diamonds" release paper online...even at Amazon 😮
My 5: 1: I don’t have more than 12 diamond paintings in my stash at one time. 2: I don’t collect fancy pens. 3: I don’t just store my finished dps. I hang them around my house. And rotate them. So some get store for a bit, until it’s their season. 4: I don’t buy fancy trays. I have a few from Add More Zest. And that is all I need. 5: I don’t limit myself to one kind of stuff in my pen. I use glue dots, putty, and pink and blue wax. Depending on the situation. I do use a drafting table. I have neck arthritis and I would have to give up the hobby otherwise. I do watch RUclips while I am painting. Unless curling is on. 🥌 5:
This was such fun, Daphne! I've just now kitted up a second diamond painting to try to work on a square and a round at the same time. Early on I just couldnt do it unless it was alternating between a major canvas and a snack-sized project. After a year and a half of diamond painting I'll see if I can do two major kits at the same time. If I can't do it at least I'll know there is another person out there whose brain just doesnt work that way. Thanks! 💎😵💫💎
I might be able to alternate between a large/small one, but I have a feeling I would just finish the small one before I went back to the larger kit!! Thanks for watching!!
Everytime I watch a video, I learn something new. Thanks a million for the seam ripper tip!! I'm doing my first 30x30 that has an opaque cover. I used my razor pen to cut a portion of the cover and was very nervous that I might cut the canvas as well. I just now moved onto a new section and used the seam ripper - LOVE it!. I also don't multi-place... I found that it took more time in the long run by the time I straightened them up after placing them. (I have a touch of OCD) lol
I really enjoyed this! I'm right there with you on just about everything. Kitting up small projects is definitely a waste of time for me--I want to start drilling! I love washi tape, but I use it for the glued edges, not sectioning; and I love the way it looks when other DPers do it. 4-6 is my sweet spot as well. And while I have light pads in two sizes, I haven't been using them lately. Additionally, I don't store my canvases and drills separately; I keep kits in original packaging until I'm ready to move them into rotation. I don't seal things that are just going into a portfolio. You've got me thinking... 😆
Separating the drills from the canvases sounds like a nightmare for sorting and storing and finding things down the line. I am amazed how often I come across this while watching videos.
I keep my kits in their boxes as well until I’m ready to work on them. I know many people unbox right away and store the canvas/drills separately, but that sounds like a sure fire way for me to lose track of everything!! Thanks for sharing!!
We are so similar. I too am very heavy handed. I don’t use pink wax at all because it didn’t last for me. Glue dots and quakehold for the multiplacing end are my favorite. I quit using release papers because I like to post on IG and the papers covered too much for a good picture. I dont use washi though. I’m a planner chick and I need my washi for pretty planning. I switched to whiteboard tape. Wonderful tip I learned from Summer’s Sparkling Good time. Haven’t looked back at my release papers ever since. The whiteboard tape sticks better than washi too. I am weird or “atypical” in that I never use the stickers. I copy them onto my favorite sticker paper because I hate how dac labels never stay and other labels never come off. Besides I like to keep the original sticker page in my log book. As for multiplacers I love those big ones for big colorblocking. Dac’s 12 placer is wonderful. My most comfortable placer size is 9. I bought a bunch in that size from sleepy cat store on Ali and they are on most of my pens now. They are stainless steel without the plating that thickens them up. The other day I switched to a pen with those old 9 placers after having used the dac 12 for weeks. Boy did it feel good to be back to my trusty 9 placer! I place more accurately because I am so used to that one. Let’s see what else do I do atypically….I don’t use storage anymore. Just trays in towers. I am obsessed with record keeping. My GemsFlow app is used to the max. Time keeping, tracking numbers, planning ahead….I love it! I am amazed that you dont use a light pad. If it wasn’t for the backlighting I don’t think I could diamond paint as much as I do. The eye fatigue would really limit my time. I diamond paint on drafting tables but they aren’t steep. One click up is all I need to relieve neck strain. Oh! That’s atypical …I have 2 drafting tables plus a desk top easel I use when I have to really supervise my son during school. I set up the table top one next to him. My oldest laughs at me when I do that because he says I have so many diamond painting setups around the house. As for working on multiple wips I have no problem with it. However I hardly ever carry them over month to month. I start each month with a plan 4 big and 4 small projects is my typical month. I start them all at the beginning of the month and cycle between them until they are done. This is how I get to participate in so many events. Of course this means I am diamond painting 6 hour plus every day. On weekends I really go to town and can put in 10-12 in a day if I don’t have plans. I think thats atypical for sure.
I love the IG pics with the washi sectioning, but my brain can’t handle it on my own WIPs. 😁 I may switch to the tower/tray method after the move, but we’ll see. I’ve pulled some 8+ hours days, but I don’t think I’ve ever gotten 10-12 in!! Thanks for sharing!!
I could not function without a light pad!! LOL. Actually, if the weather is optimal and I work on a kit outside, I wont typically need a light pad. I keep trying to section with washi tape….still haven’t figured it out, prefer working in columns pulling back the cover sheet then covering a single column with release papers. Grateful for your suggestion for glue dots for single placers. Enjoy your videos!
I don’t multiplace. I’ve practiced to see if I could get comfortable with using multi-placers but I just don’t like it. It takes me longer to line up & load the multi-placer with drills in my tray, then more time as I fiddle with getting them in the exact spot on the canvas. Idk if my poor eyesight complicates the process or bc I’m uncoordinated-bc I have both. I enjoy the slower pace of single placing. I can relax & enjoy the process.
I’m a new diamond painter, have used the wax a lot, but started using glue does, love the pops and works better. I like my 4 placer and have just started trying my 6 placer.I’m working on 3 at a time now. I do use a light pad on a small easel as I do have neck problems . Thanks for sharing.
I'm still new to diamond painting, so I'm still figuring out my system. I don't like the light pad. After trying it, I was confused as to how that was easier. The way it lights things makes me anxious. I use overhead lights and a desk lamp and feel I can see just fine. I am currently working on a card table set up directly behind my painting desk. I just swivel my chair and then work on the DP. I was working on a canvas and didn't finish it before your pet event started, and I have now realized I'm not a fan of an unfinished project sitting there. Right now, I'm using parchment paper. I like that I can't see the whole painting as it feels overwhelming. I just fold the parchment before I put it on into sections and then cut it on the fold lines as I do my sections. I currently have 2 pens out, one with a single and a 4 placer and the other with a 2 and 3 placer. I can't seem to use a larger multiplacer to set fewer diamonds yet. I'm going to switch to the glue dots as I seem to be a heavy placer. The red wax getting on the canvas is driving me crazy. I've switched to putty for my multiplacer and like it a lot. I'm interested to see what my process is in a year. I'd like to see a tutorial on making your own cover sheets.
“Drill chasing” 😂 That is soooo me! It’s like you’re in my brain with all of these topics. Of course, except I am blind without a light pad. I used a lamp that caused shadows for my very first small diamond painting that I did last year. The light pad was a revelation for me. I would like to use an easel eventually but I haven’t figured out if that’s something that would work for me or not.
Great video! A lot of my list is similar to yours. One thing I do that maybe a lot don’t is continually rotate my canvas around and work on it in all different directions.
1.) I don't use wax as well. I use the putty, but someone told me about puddy. I like it so much better so I bought some buddy. Then someone told me about glue dots. We'll I have to use all of my puddy befor then I'll change to the dots. 2.)i also don't divide my sections with washi tape 3.)I kit up when I get my kits. Yes I have that much storage. If I already have my next kit kitted up then I can just start my next kit and down kit the other kit the next day or latter. 4.) I'll only do Diamond Art Club kits every once in a wile I'll get the $10 diamond dotz kits from Walmart but I really dislike that they arnt full drill canvases. 5.)I only save my Diamond Art Club drills
Great video! Unlike some other DP's I have no "schedule" or set goals per yr, etc. The only time I "rush" is when I'm making one as a gift for a b'day or Christmas present. I try not to put too much pressure on myself for any reason or I dont relax & enjoy it as much. I also do not have any type of "system" for my leftover drills...they go into a big plastic container (with rounds & squares separate) for now, but I keep them w/intentions to use them on wooden boxes & other projects. My eyes are much better since I stopped using my lightpad recently...whew!
No more than 1 going, stopped using my light pad, you got me using glue dots, there was a learning curve, but now love them! I use washi on the perforated covers. Great video!!!!
i can be working on three at a time. I have one set up in my craft room, One I carry when I go somewhere, and 1 at my computer table if I am doing a project(bookmarks, coasters)
I've been diamond painting for years. Got away from it for awhile then started back up. I work on one diamond painting at a time but will pull out a small one and work it for a change of pace. I've completed one HAED painting and have 2 more to do. My small projects I work out of the bags. When finished all the drills go in one baggy. Larger paintings I might separate at the time then merge into other bags of like color. I used to spend hours just sorting by # and storing them. Threw most of those out when I had to move. I hang my paintings when I get them usually so they are flatter when I work on them. Love DAC canvases but don't buy a lot of them cause I have no place to put them. I like my specialty pens and I use pink wax but am going to try the dots. Diamond painting is just one of my hobbies so I rotate through them depending on mood and weather.
I love them - they last way longer for me than the pink wax. I find that people who are ‘hard placers’ like me tend to prefer the glue dots, so YMMV. Thanks for watching!!
I do small projects that same way you do. I don’t section my paintings at all, I just roll the cover sheet back as I go. I don’t even own any washi tape. I don’t keep a log book of any kind. Most of what I do is gifts, so I’ve never seen any reason to keep track. I only use a 6 placer and just change the amount of drills on the placer. I also don’t roll my canvas, I do like you and turn it all around. I only have one large painting going at a time, but I work on small projects when I want a break from the big one, so I guess I only have one WIP at a time, but I do work on other things. One thing I think is different from most people is I only have 1 pen. I bought one I like and that’s it.
Thank you for your video on printing your own release papers! I have an ink jet printer and a brand new laser printer. I can't wait to customize some of my own!
I’m super excited to try making my release papers too. I only have a color laser printer currently. ✨I’m interested if you have better results on the inkjet or laser printer 💞
It is so interesting to find out how different people’s brains work. I especially enjoy learning how people kit up (by color, etc.) Most are happy with just one multiplacer, but i need different pens with ALL the sizes. I also don’t grow a large stash, even though it sure would be easy to do so.
I don't use the bottles to kit up. I use boxes that have separate compartments and I label each compartment and put my drills in each of the compartments. Then I spoon out the drills into the boat and after I finish with the color, put them back into the box. It saves me time.
I buy the boxes at JoAnn's. They may be more like sewing craft compartment boxes. I open the packets of drills and pour them into each compartment. That being said I don't do huge dps. The biggest ones are 40x50 cm. so if you were to do a very large dp, you might have to buy several boxes and that might be cumbersome. It works for me. I don't use a tower.
I absolutely need to use a light pad. That was one of the first things I ever bought when I started diamond painting. Even before I got a more comfortable pen. I just bought my first 3-D printed trays last year and absolutely love the larger trees. I don’t know how I’ve been working out of those little ones for so long. I also started using glue dots last year after being extremely frustrated with wax. I can’t go back. The only time I might use some wax or putty in my single placer is to place abs. I have yet to find anything I really like for that yet . -Robin
Your videos are fun! Let’s see I don’t use washi tape, and I don’t section. I peel a little bit of the plastic back, put a cover minder on each corner and diamond painting.Like you I don’t use an easel or lighting pad. I don’t use the pink pens that come with the kit, I use the glass pens. I don’t use huge multi placers either. My favorite multi placer is a three or two. I love the pink wax but I don’t like it for the AB drills so I am looking for an alternative for when I am applying ABs
I'm with you on almost every single point -sticky dots and (putty) blue tac only, one project at a time and no light pad. I do use washi to section though.
You have brought up a good discussion. I love to section because I can complete my painting faster and more efficiently. I place washi tape on the plastic and the edges( borders). I cut the plastic off with a ceramic knife pen. Then I use release paper until it’s completed. I enjoy doing it this way. It takes some time to prepare but it really speeds up the diamond painting process.
I don't use a light pad, I only use glue dots, I do not multi place at all, I work on an easel, I don't section with washi tape but use precut parchment squares that are 3X3 inches, although I have several really lovely trays and a couple of better pens, I end up using the large white standard tray with the spout and a pen that I paid about $7 for, even though I own a couple of expensive pens. The only storage I have kept after trying so many others are my E. Wards and I have 8 of them, and that is why I limit my stash to 8 canvases. As I complete kits, then I allow myself to order some new ones. Diamond painting has been so wonderful for helping me deal with my pain and I am so grateful I stumbled upon it. Your video made me smile as I agreed with so many of the things you don't do. Finding your own way of working is so satisfying.
Let's just say I'm too new, since I'm doing my first diamond painting while listening to you, and I have no idea what you are talking about! Although it was interesting to find out their is a replacement for the pink stuff! Maybe someday I'll look you up again!.
I have one on my table in the living room that is generally budget friendly. I have an Ott light behind me. I have a more costly canvas I work on in the morning in my craft room. The window faces east so great lighting. If I have trouble with a dark field I tape my canvas to the window😂have been painting since February and just saved enough money to make an order from DAC. I really love doing this and just take my time and have fun. Thanks for sharing. ps…I have no idea what dots are😂 they sure do sound good tho.
i love to use a mesh ruler and multiplacers, I also use a roller when I am removing the ruler. Works great. I use up to an 8 drill multiplacer because the ruler is 8 drills high
i just started painting, and i don't use the light board and i use the wax and i seemed to have no problem with it. and i use the small diamond trays, i have 3 on my work station, one to hold the brush and wax and wax remover, and the another tray for the diamonds and the 3rd tray to sit on top of the one tray with diamonds in it to make it easier to put the diamonds back into the jar (it has a hole that they could go though) and the trays are stackable.
I am really curious how you keep your kitted projects in your closet? Do you have a video on that yet? I would love to see how I can keep my projects flat.
I have a storage rack where I stored my boxed kits until I am ready to work on them. I like to lay them flat rather than storing them vertically. The canvases on my closet door are on clip hangers. They only move to the closet door when I have unboxed them and am getting ready to work on them. Thanks for watching!!
I recently started to make friends with the Ceramic cutter😂 I hated it when I first got it because I used the clear cover sheet on that painting and I could not for the life of me cut the clear cover in a good way. This time around with my current kit there is something wrong with my canvas so the clear plastic cover was actually sticking to the glue and pulling up the glue from the canvas and making it less sticky so in an effort to save it I took the clear cover off and replaced it with non stick oven paper and that is much more enjoyable to cut with the Ceramic pen👌 We'll see if I keep using the oven sheets going forward on my future projects or if I keep the plastic cover on. I like seeing my project as a whole through the plastic, but maybe I like the non stick oven paper better🤷🏻♀️
Hi Daphne, good evening from Southern California. 1. I don't talk. If I talk, I will make many mistakes. 2. Pink Wax, stopped using quite quickly. I hate pink. 3. I don't Diamond paint listening to music. Why? I will get up and start dancing. 4. I don't use release paper to divide the canvas up. I use Washi tape on the bottom half at first. Plus, I have my Elizabeth Ward storage cover up the canvas, plus large release paper. 5. I don't rush my Diamond Paintings. Two reasons 1. My ADHD brain doesn't like me rushing. 2. My lumbar area of my back doesn't like me rushing. Please I use a light pad. There is no strong lights in my house. So being nearsighted and farsighted I need all the light I can get.
I am just curious. How do you get the glue dots into your single placer? I currently use the pink wax but I am on too small of a budget for putty or wax on Etsy
I purchased a light pad before I ever received my first diamond painting Christmas 2021. I have two easels with light pads on both. One easel is the largest one they carry at Hobby Lobby. It is for the very large canvases like DAC Old Shoe House or Maui Princess Hannah Lynn by Oraloa. I'm not a fan of the grand scale DPS. These are both about 50% complete waiting on me to feel motivated to tackle them again. I have several WIPs going at once. I have a ten placer that rarely gets used. I don't think I have ever seen a 12 or 15 placer. I actually prefer the basic pens. I'll do a bulk loading session and have several on hand to keep going on my pieces. On average, I touch four canvases a day. I might finish four to six canvasses a month. A 50 x 50 is my typical size. It's cumbersome at times, but after an hour or two, I am tired of one painting.
@@DiamondPaintingAnonymous I rarely kit up small projects. I prefer the EW system, but 5 of my 6 are currently occupied by kits I haven't started or I started and then lost steam. I keep saying I'll finish a DP to free up space, but then my next kit comes already in baggies, that I will work directly out of, and Voila there's no more need to free up the storage. It's a vicious cycle. I want to get the smaller sized EW kits.
I use glue dots too, I don't use a light pad. I am 60 so I do use reading glasses. I have very good light in my kitchen and so far I am okay. I only work on one painting at a time due to a space issue. I don't section off either, but I work on one color at a time. I guess in a way I do section like I will do a 6 inch tall area and work across the bottom. I have tried sectioning but it drives me crazy getting so many colors out for each section. Anyway we all have our things we like to do....thank you for your video!
@@milliefusion7340 I’ve heard of people who complete them like a typewriter - going across one line at a time, opening colors as needed. You’re right - everyone has their own way of doing things! Thanks for watching!!
just got into diamond painting myself, and i was wondering what *diamonds* are best for beginners? the only one i ahve tried so far are the dollar store very cheap... very *gappy* round ones... although i stopepd that one after a few hours, because the part i was working on, the adhesive dried out... my second one *en-route* from Huacan is a sqaure diamond one... because i ahve seen various examples on videos etc, and the square ones seem to fit perfectly.... but i have *heard* that beginers are better off with round ones? cheers
sorry if this is a repeat, youtube was having issues.... i was wanting to ask what you would say is better for beginners? round or sqaure? I ahve tried the *cheap dollar store knock off* which are round drills and very *gappy* but the adhesive in the section i was working dried within an hour or so.... i have a square drill one coming from Huacan... *en-route* ... am i getting ahead of myself... i have seen a few videos and they seem to fit so much better, but i have also heard sqaure drills are more *advanced*? cheers... oh. .also would you say its better to work on *border-lines/outlines* first? or just do a block? cheers
@@UnrealGam3er I personally think rounds are easier, because you don’t have to be as precise as with squares. And I always start in a corner, working in small sections.
@@DiamondPaintingAnonymous i see what you mean, but square drills seemto make it *pop* more... ;) but yes, unless you *checker-board* which takes forever (8 hrs plus on a 2x5 inch rectangle i set aside >.>) but, with rounds, i see more image *leftovers* if you get me? so yes a hard choice lol... but the additicion is REAL, 15 kits so far, jumping between them, and its only been just over a week i foun out about diamond art lol
I use metal multiplacers and not the plastic because the drills seem to move with plastic and the plastic has a tendency to warp (I am also a hard placer), I don't kit up ANY kit - usually I'm so anxious to start a new one that I kit as I go, the only time I have more than 1 WIP is if I'm missing some drills and don't have spares, and I work with Dreamer Designs and they have a white plastic single placer for AB Drills - I tried the pencil wax and since I place so hard I go thru those pens - and I have had back/shoulder pain that within 2 months of doing kits on a flat table I had to get an easel but either way I use a light pad so that I can see things a lot better - have 67 year old eyes with the start of cataracts
I stumbled onto this video and I found it very interesting. I don't use washi tape either because I'm afraid to use my canvas. Instead I use parchment paper for release paper. It has worked perfectly for me for the last year and it is reusable which is nice for the budget.
I only use an overhead lamp, no light pad and mostly work on one wip. This month i decided to test my limits and enter 4 events so i have multiple wips. I doubt I'll stay with juggling a bunch of wips though, its a lot.
I don't release paper or washi tape. I just peel back the plastic cover and start placing the drills. I move the plastic around when I work on it so that my hands can rest on it while placing and keep areas that I'm not working on as covered as possible. When I get a section completely done, I'll cut the cover according to whatever shape I ends up with. Often it's in square/rectangles, but sometimes I'll be the shape of whatever object in the painting.
I use glue dots in my single places also and putty in my multi. I use pretty places for abs. I love release papers so I don't get overwhelmed I concentrate on a section at a time. I have way to many wips. I don't ever have just one painting going lol
@@SharitCreations I put the glue dots inside my single placer tip (instead of using the pink wax). The glue dots work on crystal/rhinestone drills. Thanks for watching!!
Where do you get your pens? I like the tips on them. I got some from Amazon and the tips are very bulky and it makes it hard to place the diamond in the correct spot. I looked in your list of supplies that you like and you didn’t link pens lol hopefully you see this and answer it I’m also gonna look through your videos and see if possibly you have one about your pens or where you mention them or have them linked
I get the single placer tips from Cateared on Amazon. The multiplacers are either from Everlasting Tips on Etsy or from Diamond Art Club. Thanks for watching!!
Can you show how you use diamond dots on your pen and where can i find your video on making your own DP paper? I'm new to your channel and i love watching.
I demo how I load my glue dots in this video: ruclips.net/video/BsmPH1Pr0E8/видео.html. For the cover/release papers, just search the channel for that and it should bring up the video on how to make them. Thanks for watching!!
Hi, dead beginner here. I've started my painting with the tools provided in the kit. (Realized later I bought an Intermediate level project) So far it is going well, BUT sometimes my drills wind up upside down in my tray. How do I prevent or fix this? Shaking and tapping my tray sore of helps, but I would like a better option.
@@HJHecking Shaking your drill tray is the only way I know of to get the drills to line up. I usually hold mine at a slight angle as I shake, so they slide towards the back of the tray. Thanks for watching!!
My main odd thing is I love tool upgrades and have many nice pens, trays, puttys and waxes (I can’t get the hang of glue dots) but for trays, my favorite remains the basic white DAC tray with washi in the base.
How do you use the glue dots? Roll it up and put in single placer end?? The one thing that I dont do that probably makes me an odd duck is that I dont multiplace. I end up fussing with push them around and just love single placing, even 20 rows of the same drill.
I'm pretty on par with you with the exception of using a multiplacer; I only use the 3 placer. I also prefer to work on a flat surface with adequate lighting, for my larger canvases, but use an easel for small paintings.
I also don’t have more than 1 WIP going at a time. I do, however, always try to have a Paint Gem kit ready to go since I know I can finish one of their small canvas in a matter of hours.
I found all the things you do and don't do are interesting. When you look at the finished painting, people will have no idea what we did to get there. 😊
Glue dots are just little dots of glue. You can get them at any craft store and I use them in my single placers. I love them - they last so much longer than the pink wax for me!
I have been diamond painting for about 3 months maybe four... And I do not have a light pad and I don't even want one! I am perfectly happy working flat on my table as well! Here I thought I was doing everything wrong LOL! This was a great video thank you! 😊
I would like to see how you use your own recommendations. For example, the dots. I’m new to diamond painting and I don’t know how to use this dots. The same with your other recommendations. I suggest that you demonstrate it.
I don’t use wax, I use Quakehold Museum Putty. You can find it on Amazon, it’s cheap, and I find it works better and lasts longer than wax. Thanks for watching!!
I don’t outline my paintings with Washi Tape…I use an easel and have never had an issue with it getting dirty around the edge. I don’t use a light pad. I don’t use straighters, I used to when I first started 2 1/2 years ago but for me it felt like I spent to much time perfecting. I don’t have more than 2 WIPs at a time, one large premium kit and one small budget kit. I switch back and forth between release paper and sectioning with washi tape based on size of canvas and how I feel about that particular kit. I use micro glue dots in my single placer and putty in my multi-placer but occasionally will use pink wax on my budget kits because it seems to work better on those drills for some reason.
I use a light pad because my vision is so horrific that I find it necessary. Even with a bright overhead light, and my glasses, I tend to need more. I do agree with you that it changes the color of the symbol/drill and makes everything look like a photo negative until the pad is turned off. I also find that the light pad tends to make the diamonds look like they're mishapen/gaping, though that could be related to my vision issues. I like to work flat, too, but will be moving to an easel due to chronic shoulder bursitis; I didn't get it from diamond painting. It also won't heal because I am constantly leaning over the table to work. If I didn't have it, I'd definitely stay working flat as I find it more comfortable. I don't coordinate pens/trays/washi/minders/etc... Mostly, because I can't afford to. I have a decent pen, 1 decent tray and I feel that's all I need for now.
I like to put my drills on a clear tray and use the light underneath to cleck for drill defects. I would like to know some companies that tend to have more quality products. If anyone has any suggestions for me, it would be much appreciated. p.s. I'd rather spend more on quality than quantity especially being a slow relaxed diamond painter.
@@jaimeianni6225 There is a list of premium companies in the description box at the bottom. To cover your canvas as you work, you can buy release papers that are non stick. Amazon has plain or decorative ones.
I too am a heavy placer, and I do use wax in my multiplacers. I’ve tried putty, but in the hot muggy south, it gets too stringy and that’s harder to get off the canvas than wax 😂 Imonly work on one large premium canvas at a time. I have set it aside for DPforPets. So I’m working on Gary from SpongeBob, and as an aside, I’m also working on finishing up my budget WIPs, so expect a lot of finishes for the month of June.
The putty is temp sensitive, and we’ve had some hot days where I’ve had the same issues. Someone shared about glue lines, so I’m going to try those and see if they work. I can’t wait to see how Gary turns out!!
I’m with you, I do not use the pink wax. I love my glue dots and found a great putty for multiplacers, although they still intimidate me. I do have some started paintings hanging while I work on other due to me being an event junkie, i.e. I am working on one for DP with Pets and one for Craftibly Craze right now at the same time! 😅
Could I please get some advice on using Glue Dots? I REALLY want to like them but I am getting really frustrated trying to use them. I have mini dots in my single placer and line dots in my multiplacer. I spend too much time fighting to get my drills to stick to the canvas and not the placer. I have rubbed the glue continuously with my fingers but it doesn't work. Do you have any suggestions or tips? I don't want to give up on this but it's getting really frustrating.
My best tip is to ‘dirty’ them up. If you find your drills don’t release into the canvas, dab it onto your clothes - shirt, pants whatever. Picking up a little bit of lint will make the glue dots a tiny bit less sticky. You may have to do it a couple of times. I haven’t tried the glue lines yet, but I would imagine they would be the same. Hope that helps!!
I also don't use a light pad. My eyesight is pretty bad, -8 in both. I seriously strained my eyes working on my first kit and it took over a week for them to recover. Afterwards, I eventually figured out I can only diamond paint when there's a good amount of natural daylight, taking lots of breaks to rest and get up. I wish I could work more often, but it's not worth my health.
Generally speaking, I prefer to move around the canvas. I'll set out for a section, or sections, during the day and then work on that. Then I might be in a different area of the canvas. My friends who diamond paint get headaches watching me do that. I also refuse to use a multi-placer bigger than a 7 because I cannot stand going beyond 7 in getting them straight. I also don't like putty. I have not had luck with it.
You can find glue dots just about anywhere - Walmart, Target, craft stores, Amazon. They are just little dots of glue - I take 2-4 of them, mash them together, and then use them in my single placer instead of pink wax. They work great!!
@@DiamondPaintingAnonymous Thanks. I just watched one of your earlier videos, the one where you test different waxes and the glue dot lasted the longest. At the end you showed how you loaded your pen with the glue dot so that was informative. I will try those for sure
I usually work on small paintings, so what I like to do, is to finish an entire color before moving onto the next.. Moving from small to large specifically. I don’t do washi tape or any sections at all! I know that nobody really does that, but I dunno, it’s comfortable for me. I hate switching colors during diamond painting, since it takes *ages*.
I don’t throw out the kit extras (save and donate them), use special pens, hang my finishes, place squares w tweezers, use putty, brag on my stash, or have multiple WIPs. I love the way you say, “You do what works for you.”
@@DonnaBanks-em8qs I keep telling hubby I should make a video of me trying to place with tweezers - it would be hilarious to watch drills constantly flying out of my hand. 😂
I don't section canvases with washi tape. I use release paper. I also don't use a light pad. I don't multiplace squares. I use tweezers and a straightener to put down my checkerboard, then I use a pen to fill in the checkerboard.
I bought one of the pretty plastic pens but don’t like it. I prefer the plastic ones that come with every kit I have purchased.with the foam grips. They fit my hands best. That may change when I do my first square drill painting.
I don't use the pink wax or washi tape. I also use white release paper to section off my canvas. I haven't done any small kits since my first few 3 years ago. Mine have all been over 40 colors for the last few years. The largest multi placer I use is a 6. I have a 9 and 12. But I don't use them. I am a HUGE DAC fan! I am currently working on a Diamond Dotz, and there is SOOO much trash. I am for sure going to run out of multiple colors. I do not use a light pad because I dont want to see how unperfect my drill placement might be. Im a perfectionist.
@@DiamondPaintingAnonymous yea, it is a little disappointing. I have also done 2 others from Diamond Dotz and didn't run out. There are so many drills with holes and trash hanging off the sides in this kit.
What I’ve discovered from your talk is that each diamond painter is an artist with their own methods. Thank you for the insight. 😊
Yes, exactly!! Everyone works differently, so use what works for you and ignore what doesn’t. Thanks for watching!!
Peace and love abide with you 💕
I learn so much from watching how others work! Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for sharing!!
love this! I'm going to try it since I have a terrible time with the edges lining up.
Daphne...Could you please do a short step by step tutorial type video on how you make your own DP release papers? I wish you'd make & sell them, because I cannot find any pretty pink & purple "diamonds" release paper online...even at Amazon 😮
I seriously agree... please PLEASE SHOW UA HOW TO MAKE OUR OWN RELEASE PAPER!!!

@@DiamondPaintingAnonymous ❤️👍😁💐 ty soooo much!
Try Add More Zest. For a great range of cover sheets.
@mopsthetops 👍😁 TY I will do that.
My 5:
1: I don’t have more than 12 diamond paintings in my stash at one time.

Whatever works best for you is great! I admit, I’m still trying to learn all the rules for curling!! 🥌 Thanks for sharing!!
Love curling!
I love the seam ripper! Huge thanks to Jess for sharing that tip!!
I just started using the micro dots recently. Love it. I seem to only need two dots. 3s too much. Lasted almost a few days
For me, it depends on the tip. Some of mine have really deep wells and I need more than 2 or 3 dots. Thanks for sharing!!
I don't cut my chains. I don't fill multiple pots. No washi/light pad. Love wax carry on. 🌹👍🌟
I know many people love them, but they definitely don’t work for me. Thanks for sharing!!
Whatever works for you - if it’s frustrating, it’s no fun!
I’m a new diamond painter, have used the wax a lot, but started using glue does, love the pops and works better. I like my 4 placer and have just started trying my 6 placer.I’m working on 3 at a time now. I do use a light pad on a small easel as I do have neck problems . Thanks for sharing.
I love the glue dots - love the popping sound and that there’s no mess left on my canvas. Thanks for watching!!
@@DiamondPaintingAnonymous Sometimes the glue dot will pop out on the drill, but otherwise, I love them too.
I started out using parchment paper as well. It’s cheap and it works!! Thanks for sharing!!
I do move my lamp around to avoid shadows. I’ve tried the easel and drafting tables, but the slant actually drives me batty! Thanks for watching!!
Great video! A lot of my list is similar to yours. One thing I do that maybe a lot don’t is continually rotate my canvas around and work on it in all different directions.
How much I rotate depends on the size of the canvas. If it’s small, I don’t rotate much either. Thanks for sharing!!
1.) I don't use wax as well. I use the putty, but someone told me about puddy. I like it so much better so I bought some buddy. Then someone told me about glue dots. We'll I have to use all of my puddy befor then I'll change to the dots.
2.)i also don't divide my sections with washi tape
3.)I kit up when I get my kits.
Thanks for sharing!!
No more than 1 going, stopped using my light pad, you got me using glue dots, there was a learning curve, but now love them! I use washi on the perforated covers. Great video!!!!
I love the glue dots! Thanks for watching!!
i can be working on three at a time. I have one set up in my craft room, One I carry when I go somewhere, and 1 at my computer table if I am doing a project(bookmarks, coasters)
Hmm, maybe I need to talk hubby into giving me more diamond painting spaces? 😂 Thanks for sharing!!
Omg I love those gems
Space is always a consideration. Thanks for watching!!
You have convinced me to try glue dots. Hmm itcould be really efficient especially for AB drills. . Thank you.
I have a lot of pens, but I tend to use the same one all the time. 😂 Thanks for watching!!
Thank you for your video on printing your own release papers! I have an ink jet printer and a brand new laser printer. I can't wait to customize some of my own!

What kind of putty?
It is so interesting to find out how different people’s brains work. I especially enjoy learning how people kit up (by color, etc.)
Most are happy with just one multiplacer, but i need different pens with ALL the sizes.
I also don’t grow a large stash, even though it sure would be easy to do so.
It is super easy! Thanks for watching!!
I don't use the bottles to kit up. I use boxes that have separate compartments and I label each compartment and put my drills in each of the compartments. Then I spoon out the drills into the boat and after I finish with the color, put them back into the box. It saves me time.
Like a hardware sorting box/tower? With all the separate drawers? What an interesting idea!! Thanks for watching!!
@@margueritemoschberger4888 Oh, I see. I’ll have to check it out!!
-Robin
I love my Pretty placer for ABs, but you can also use nail art pens/pencils. Thanks for watching!!
Thanks for sharing!!
I'm with you on almost every single point -sticky dots and (putty) blue tac only, one project at a time and no light pad. I do use washi to section though.

Great idea on the seam ripper used as a cutter.
@@ChrisHighEagle-ck2fg Huge thanks to Jess for sharing it!
You have brought up a good discussion. I love to section because I can complete my painting faster and more efficiently. I place washi tape on the plastic and the edges( borders). I cut the plastic off with a ceramic knife pen. Then I use release paper until it’s completed. I enjoy doing it this way. It takes some time to prepare but it
really speeds up the diamond painting process.
Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you I’m really passionate about it.
It is!! Thank you so much for watching!!
Let's just say I'm too new, since I'm doing my first diamond painting while listening to you, and I have no idea what you are talking about! Although it was interesting to find out their is a replacement for the pink stuff! Maybe someday I'll look you up again!.

i love to use a mesh ruler and multiplacers, I also use a roller when I am removing the ruler. Works great. I use up to an 8 drill multiplacer because the ruler is 8 drills high
I should go back and give rulers another try. Thanks for sharing!!
i just started painting, and i don't use the light board and i use the wax and i seemed to have no problem with it. and i use the small diamond trays, i have 3 on my work station, one to hold the brush and wax and wax remover, and the another tray for the diamonds and the 3rd tray to sit on top of the one tray with diamonds in it to make it easier to put the diamonds back into the jar (it has a hole that they could go though) and the trays are stackable.

This time around with my current kit there is something wrong with my canvas so the clear plastic cover was actually sticking to the glue and pulling up the glue from the canvas and making it less sticky so in an effort to save it I took the clear cover off and replaced it with non stick oven paper and that is much more enjoyable to cut with the Ceramic pen👌
We'll see if I keep using the oven sheets going forward on my future projects or if I keep the plastic cover on. I like seeing my project as a whole through the plastic, but maybe I like the non stick oven paper better🤷🏻♀️
I could never figure out how to cut the clear plastic either! Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for sharing!!
I am just curious. How do you get the glue dots into your single placer? I currently use the pink wax but I am on too small of a budget for putty or wax on Etsy

Can you show how you use glue dots and what kind
Wow! Sounds like you’d figure out what works for you!
Sounds like you’ve figured out what works for you! Thanks for sharing!
I stumbled onto this video and I found it very interesting. I don't use washi tape either because I'm afraid to use my canvas. Instead I use parchment paper for release paper. It has worked perfectly for me for the last year and it is reusable which is nice for the budget.
I used parchment paper before I found release papers. It does work well! Thanks for watching!!
Can you do a video on how you make your realise papers please I would love to do my own papers
You can find the video on it here: ruclips.net/video/B_mNDvqLphs/видео.html Thanks for watching!!
I only use an overhead lamp, no light pad and mostly work on one wip. This month i decided to test my limits and enter 4 events so i have multiple wips. I doubt I'll stay with juggling a bunch of wips though, its a lot.
It’s definitely too much for my brain - I’ve done it, but I didn’t like it. 😄 Thanks for sharing!!
I would like to find out what size glue dots you use for your single placement tool?
I've used both micro and mini glue dots - if I use the micro, I generally use two at once. Thanks for watching!!
I use glue dots in my single places also and putty in my multi. I use pretty places for abs. I love release papers so I don't get overwhelmed I concentrate on a section at a time. I have way to many wips. I don't ever have just one painting going lol
I love release papers too! Thanks for sharing!!
I'm sorry if this sounds naive I have never done a diamond painting. I ordered my supplies and kits. How do you use the glue dots on the rhinestones?
I don't kit up in containers. I only dp out of mt tray tower.
Can you please show us how you use the glue dots? I purchased some, but the drills don’t stick.

It’s funny how we all try a million tools and end up using the same ones over and over!! 😁 Thanks for sharing!!
How do you use the glue dots? Roll it up and put in single placer end?? The one thing that I dont do that probably makes me an odd duck is that I dont multiplace. I end up fussing with push them around and just love single placing, even 20 rows of the same drill.
Yes, exactly. I use 2-4 dots depending on the pen tip. Thanks for watching!!
Im new diamond painter, what is a glue dots? The pink wax sometimes kinda annoys me and maybe ill try something different!
@@Misia.3400 They are Glue Dots brand glue dots. You can find them at any craft store.
I'm pretty on par with you with the exception of using a multiplacer; I only use the 3 placer. I also prefer to work on a flat surface with adequate lighting, for my larger canvases, but use an easel for small paintings.
Thanks for sharing!!
I also don’t have more than 1 WIP going at a time. I do, however, always try to have a Paint Gem kit ready to go since I know I can finish one of their small canvas in a matter of hours.
Good idea! Thanks for sharing!!

This kit is from Diamond Art Club, but I buy from many different places. Pens and trays are from Etsy shops. Thanks for watching!!
I can’t multi place squares. I have trouble getting them to line up at all.
What are glue drops and how do you use them?

…WoW! 😂 no light pad!! I’m shocked 🫢 😂✌🏾
What wax do you use in your multi placer. Enjoy watching your channel
I don’t use wax, I use Quakehold Museum Putty. You can find it on Amazon, it’s cheap, and I find it works better and lasts longer than wax. Thanks for watching!!
i dont use a multiplacer either i just use the single placer
There are lots of diamond painters who only single place.
Thanks for sharing!
If it works for you, it’s all good. Thanks for sharing!!
I also would seriously benefit from knowing ,what kind of materials can be used for cover in sections that you are not working on?
Go you!!
Hope that helps!!
very good video
Thank you!!
By the way I also prefer 50x50 cm or 70x40 cm paintings and a 50x50 I get done in a week, a 70x40 usually 10-14 days so that's what I like also
I also don't use a light pad.
It’s definitely not worth risking your health! Glad you discovered what works best for you. Thanks for watching!!
@@DiamondPaintingAnonymous thank you, you're very sweet!

Oh no! 😱 I was so afraid of doing that.
What are glue dots? How does it work?
