    I have only bought Amazon and Temu kits. Even if I was a millionaire I wouldn't pay the prices of the diamond painting companies, but I will always cheer on those who feel differently.
    I only ever use a single placer because the joy is in the journey for me, not in the finish line. I prefer placing each drill perfectly the first time.
    Great vid!

      I have found the best deal for the size is off of AliExpress. They have a great selection to choose from.
      Now to show the rate of inflation... I purchased a 70x50cm painting for $16.50 back in 2020. But I just looked it up again and now that same size is $35.62. 😳🤨 I guess they had better deals during the pandemic to keep business up and have now figured out the rest of the world will keep paying to get their crafting fixes.😆

    This is an excellent episode!! I have been diamond painting for two years now and have bought all the things, have a stash, started with small unlicensed works, etc. I agree with ALL of 1-10!! This year I told myself I was going to complete my larger kits, even if I only complete 12 for the whole year. I am presently in 2 events and working on two separate large DAC paintings. I am enjoying the process so much. I certainly have enough of everything to keep going for several years!
    Thank you for all you do, I really enjoy your channel.

    Totally agree with all of this list.I started diamond painting a year ago to help with mental health issues, and I went crazy with the kits I purchased,definitely FOMO, so 2024 is a no buy year I have 80 odd kits I need to get through.I was doing abit every day but I have now learnt this is something I love so its ok to take days off. I also went crazy on pens and trays, again lesson learnt,I dont need them I just wanted it two different ideals.On the plus it as helped with my health and now when stressed I just sit down with my kit,very relaxing.I prefer big square kits so it takes a couple of months to finish, thankyou for your wise words .😊

    I agree with everything you said but would add one of my own. I just had no idea when I started how addicted I would become. I started DPing on the advice of my pain doc who suggested a hobby I could get lost in to help with pain management. I used to be an avid knitter/crocheter, but my arthritis made doing that much too painful. I stumbled upon diamond painting and soon found I was lost in "diamond meditation" for hours on end. So, while that is a good thing pain-wise for me, I find that it keeps me from other things that I should be doing or want to be doing. Had I known about the addictive nature of this craft would I have begun? Probably, but it would have been good to have that understanding before I began.
    I try to never miss one of your videos. I have enjoyed and learned from every single one I've watched. Thank you for adding to my DP experience!

    Wow! You apparently put a lot of time & effort in making your list. It helped me stop & think about each point. We can all get caught up in the things we want, but if we hit pause, sometimes it will stop impulsive spending. When watching various videos & reading comments about diamond painting, it’s staggering the amount of money people have invested in the craft. Diamond painting can be addictive for those of us that love it. Then I’m reminded that gambling is also addictive. An addiction means balance has been lost. I don’t mean to be a downer, but keeping balance with anything that brings us joy is important. Ugh! Now I’ve depressed myself! Anyway, this was a valuable & thought provoking video so good on you! 🥰

    Thanks for making this video. I just started diamond painting in April 2023, and quickly became addicted to this hobby. The amount of time it takes for me to do a painting took me by surprise, so I started buying paintings without thinking about the time factor. FOMO also contributed to my buying a lot of paintings, so by the end of 2023 I had bought 74 paintings, but only completed 2 partials and one small painting. Last year was a big learning curve for me so now I am more careful about what I buy for accessories and paintings. 😃😃

    You make some really good points, Daphne. Your comments about FOMO were spot on. Thank goodness I’ve only had FOMO once-About six years ago I had my eyes on a DP that I just had to have but I waited way too long to order it and by the time I wanted to actually buy it, it was sold out. I waited months for it to be restocked and it never was. I definitely had FOMO over this one! So I took the leap and reached out the company that made it and asked if it would be restocked. They let me know that even when an item is sold out and looks like it might not come back in stock again, they usually have a few on hand, put aside in their warehouse. They were nice enough to check into it for me and it turned out they actually had several of them still on hand and I was able to purchase it from them. I don’t know if all companies do this but if you have that special unicorn, like I did, I guess it can’t hurt to actually reach out to the company and ask if they have any on hand that you could purchase. My unicorn was called The Sorrowful Angel, and it’s now and always will be, my favorite dp.

I have had paintings restocked, and when I went to look at it again, i realized that I really didn't want it. Time works well for me to see if i really like it or not. I've been Diamond Paiting since December and I have to say, this was SO helpful! Quite a few of these are things I'd learned too from trial and error, like metal multiplacers, putty instead of wax, etc. But it was really good to hear others had the same experiences and to learn new things too. The hardest thing for me is going to be not buying too many more kits than I currently already have. My stash is probably around 30 kits and if I'm being honest, if I didn't buy another kit for the rest of the year I probably wouldn't run out. 😅

    I’m very new to DP and some of these things you are highlighting, thankfully I have figured out quickly through other creators videos and coming upon some of yours as well. As far as the DP’s themselves. I know it’ll take me a loonngg time to complete a large canvas as I have a full time job and busy with taking care of my husband and my cats. So having just one large canvas is fine for me to focus on before I buy another. But also, I don’t have the space to store a bunch a paintings. I am preparing to start my large canvas of 22x33. It’s Gem Under the Sakura from DAC if you’d like to see which one. Thanks for all of your helpful tips to this newbie.

  • @julieserres9713
    @julieserres9713 2 месяца назад

    One of the most important things I learned was that size matters. Images that are bigger (yes take longer) but are worth the the extra time and effort. I still suffer from FOMO, but not nearly at the level I did when I first started diamond painting. I love new pens, but after accumulating approximately a dozen, feel that it's an added expense that isn't necessary because I love the ones I have already. I did get a few fancy trays, but figured out that I have a few favorites and always ended up using them.. so don't really get trays anymore except if there is one made for a specific event that I would like to have. Overall, I am thrilled to have found this hobby and although my stash is excessive (see, I won't actually admit to the possibility of it being TOO excessive), I feel like I have found a balance of ones that I really love and ones that I like and think about more before purchasing. I average about 30-35 kits/yr, with only 3-5 of them being the large ones of 80x100 cm or so, the rest of them being a bit more manageable in size. I did "waste" a lot of money at the very beginning getting lots and lots of "budget" ones before I understood about the licensing, size, and quality. I still have many of them in bins. I hate to throw them out.. and thinking of contacting schools or nursing homes to see if they could use as donation. Thanks for a great video!

      I also have accessories that I tend to use every time. Same for me with pens and trays. I’ll buy some to try occasionally, but I generally go right back to my favs. As for your budget kits, I’m sure schools or nursing homes would love to have them to occupy kids/residents! Thanks for watching!!

    Size matters is definitely one that resonates with me. I also started with budget kits from Amazon (30 x 40) and I was getting a bit discouraged with how pixelated the images appeared. Then I started seeing ads for larger ones and decided to try one. My current WIP is 30 x 80 and there is a noticeable difference. I just ordered a kit from Diamond Art Club and I can't wait to try it (first time ordering from them).
    I need to look into the steel tips you mention! I have bent the tips on the pink pens so many times, it gets frustrating.

    hey Daphne - great video! as you were talking about FOMO i was looking at my stash in the DAC website - i think there were just 2 i'd consider de-stashing - but, i don't need to (for money) and maybe my feelings change later. then, i looked at my wishlist on DAC - and deleted a couple - there's really just 2 out of the 23 that if they came back in stock i'd drop everything and check out asap (and use a coupon or points!). those 2 kits are Springbringer and Grand Canal and Basilica Venice - both gorgeous, big, and will be super time consuming. actually, the top 4 in my wishlist are big-a$$ squares!

But I think I'm going to stick with the 12x16, both because in your comparison video the small doesn't look as bad as I expected, and I don't know where I can put bigger ones! As far kits, my usual go-to sites include Dreamer Designs, Oraloa, Bella Art Diamonds and Diamond Art Club. Be aware that licensed kits will be more expensive than budget kits. Loved this video! I agree with a lot of what you said. Just an observation: the "culture" around diamond painting in the USA is so different from the rest of the world. I'm in groups from various countries, and something I've noticed is that in most countries people destash their kits at cost or less. It fascinates me endlessly to see the prices some of the kits go for in the USA.

One idea I had - I wonder if you took everything with you to Canada and then created a destashed group for Canadians only so if you decide you didn’t want any, you could sell to other Canadians that don’t want to pay that hefty shipping fee. That way you’d have time to decide and a possibility of still selling them.

    You have presented a very insightful video, thank you. Btw, I 🩷 the painting you are working on. I am new to diamond painting and have now purchased four canvases. Last night I did my first kit up and started with my round white ABs. Instead of using a drill tray, I made the mistake of using a silicone/rubber funnel which came from a storage container purchased from the big A. The AB drills adhered to the inside of the funnel, the rest fell on the floor. I managed to salvage the ones that did not fall, thank goodness, but now I am wondering where to purchase the correct replacement ABs. Are they universal or specific to the kit I am wondering. As I am unsure, do you have any recommendations as to where the best place is to purchase replacement round white AB drills? They are tiny, some are full of static, and I am finding them on the floor, table, and in various other places. The canvas is 32.8cm x 32.8cm. I would appreciate any suggestions you may have. Thank you in advance.

    I am newly back to diamond painting. Took a couple of years off as I didn't have time to work on any projects when my kids were younger. I started back in December and so much has changed. I am also a hard placer and really was excited about the metal placers and glue dots. I got a metal placer pen and glue dots and every time I go to use it, the drill stick on the glue dot and won't come off on the canvas. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Any tips? I purchased my first DAC kit, I had to. It is called Cleo the colorful long hair cat. I have a long haired cat named Cleo. It came today and it is massive. I didn't realize how large it would be. UGH. I have been doing some off canvas projects recently and I am enjoying them. I missed why you're moving to Canada. Work? Exciting.

    • @DiamondPaintingAnonymous
      @DiamondPaintingAnonymous  2 месяца назад +1

      For the glue dots, you have to ‘dirty’ them up a bit to decrease the stick. Try dabbing the tip on your clothing lightly a few times. The glue dot will pick up some lint, but it makes the glue less sticky so the drills will release from the pen. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!!

    Fomo is the reason why my family is starting to call me a hoarder and shopping addict. These companies are turning shopping for a hobby as a addiction. Part of it is a good thing because I like diamond painting but its also caused me to be in a few financial situations where i was almost not able to pay my bills. Some parts of the community dont help with the situation go buy buy buy and encourage the fomo. I originally started diamond painting because i saw harry potter kits on amazon and ran into a diamond dotz kit (starry night) in hobby lobby. Then my phone started giving me ads on dac and all these other companies when i never researched diamond painting. So after my dac qvc order comes in i have to go cold turkey on my spending habits on hobbies for the rest of the year.

    I have a few methods I use to determine if something is AI art or not. First, google the artist name. If they have no social media presence showing their work there is a good chance it is AI generated. If there IS a presence check the tags on their work, do they tag their images with AI related tags? Is it in their bio? Along this same line if a diamond painting company has a selection of art, say they created it, but the owners have no social media outside of their DP company and did not previously post art of any kind it's probably AI generated. The art community is heavily reliant on social media these days and its very unusual for an artist to sign with a company and not have a presence elsewhere.
    When looking at the art itself see if everything makes sense. AI has trouble with little details, does hair or clothing just end in random places? Are things kind of "melting" together? Is the lace an actual pattern or some kind of indeterminate scribble? Do the buildings in the background LOOK like buildings or just blobs? AI art also has a tendency to look too smooth, everything seems to be the same texture. Now those things aren't always indicators but they are some good places to start.
    AI art is a real and serious issue that artists are facing right now and as an artist myself and a diamond painter I will ALWAYS support companies and content creators that work with real artists and pay them fairly.
