In this video I'll show you how to properly set up the stabilizer jacks on your Runaway RangeRunner, teardrop camper, micro camper, overland camper, and off road camper. Your stabilizer may vary, but the principles are the same.

One thing to remember - The front end of the trailer has to be slightly down to allow for Air Conditioner drainage. If the front is higher than the back, water will end up inside the trailer. There is a small drain hole under the bottom of the exposed A/C unit.

Ac already looks to be tilted downward even if camper is level. Maybe video just makes it look that way but looks like it has a nice tilt to it.

Thank you for doing this. I have used my runaway only twice. We brought the dolly to move it around.
Trip one, we forgot to put the wheel under the jack...it threw my husband, as he realized and had to try to keep it in place. Lesson learned.
Trip two, just my son and I. I never knew I needed to lock those stabilizers , and I never thought to try to "level" it. Because we were in a pretty level spot. But after seeing where you drew the lines, I can see now, that I need to pay attention to that. Small and simple things, but a big impact, so thanks.

I didn't do a good job explaining all the details. A lot of people thought I meant to take all the weight off the tires, that's not what I was meaning. I dropped the tongue down so low because I was parked on an incline, if you have a level spot you just need to lower the front enough to take a little weight off the tires. The bulk of the weight should still be on the axle, the stabilizers just need enough weight on them to keep it from rocking around. Thanks for watching, please subscribe. We're about to take it on a quick trip next week.

The only thing I do differently is I place a 2"X6" under each of the stabilizer jacks. better base for the small foot pads, a little more reach, helps keep gravel and dirt out of the jacks and often makes it easier to release the jacks. Good video for beginners thanks.

New subscriber. I picked mine up in July and went on my first camping trip this past weekend. I just let my stabilizers down and it was a little shaky but not much. Now I see the correct way. It was fun but I've got to get better organized. Thanks,

Don't put too much weight onto the rear, I didn't do a good job of explaining that in the video. Your tires shouldn't be off the ground, just enough weight on the stabilizers to keep it still. Thanks for watching!

I wasn't clear enough in the video. Not all of the weight should be on the stabilizers. The majority of the weight should still be on the tires, just enough on the stabilizers to hold it still. Thanks for watching!

your going to bend your frame. There not made the lift your trailer. I did that on my pop-up camper so bad that I to scrap it. After your RV is disconnected from your tow vehicle, your RV is level, and your wheel chocks are in place, use the hand crank included with your RV or a handheld drill with an appropriately size drill bit to extend each stabilizer jack. Stabilizer jacks are often located at the front and rear of units.
Each jack is in place when it touches the ground. Don’t extend it any further, because it could get stuck or damaged in the process.
You can do a second round to check that each jack is extended properly.
When you’re ready to hit the road again, retracting the stabilizer jacks should be one of your first steps. Complete this before you take out the wheel chocks and leveling blocks, and definitely get it done before adjusting your hitch jack. Never drive with the stabilizer jacks extended!

These stabilizers are different. Your method will work fine with the scissor jack style but these can only get a little weight on them by raising the tongue. The tires aren't fully off the ground, weight is still on the tires but a little is on the stabilizers and tongue jack.

@@grubbyssmokeshack Thank you. We’ve been casually wanting one for several years and when our popup got roof rot, we decided it was time to go for it. We’ll hopefully get a “camper van” in the next 5 years or so and then use the Runaway as a spare bedroom or whatever is needed at that time.

Would you be willing to do a video briefly showing measurments? Specifically, the A frame in the front, since there's no tongue how far are they spread AKA will a "60inch" cargo tray fit? How much space below the AC? On the inside, we just ordered the top shelf so how much space from the floor to the bottom and how much space from the shelf to the ceiling? I'd like to get a jump start on storage! No rush, just if you have time. I wish they offered more details.

I agree, I wish they had more details too. It's a good idea for a video but honestly I may not have time for a bit. I'm about to start on lighting, and. I want to go back and make one on the specifics of our bed, and I have a sponsored video coming up I need to make. We have a trip coming up to Colorado the first week of October and it'll be here before I know it. I'm just a regular guy with a regular job so it's tough to make these vids. This 4 minute video took about 10 hours to edit.

@@grubbyssmokeshack Oh wow, then certainly no rush - just if you get a chance. I won’t get mine until December so I’ll have time to outfit before spring. (We’re just in Indiana)
Colorado sounds like an awesome trip. We’ll do a few local ones next spring / early summer then late summer I really want to do what’s left of Route 66. My wife and I both work remote and our little one does virtual school so we can really work / study from anywhere. My idea is take a week off, drive to Cali - via 66 then stay at a KOA with WiFi / amenities and work from there for a week then over the long weekend (Labor Day) make a bee line for home.

Why would you want to extend the arms all the way? Won’t that cause stress on the last “point” near the end of the unit vs say like 1/2 way down where it is double the integrity?
By the look of the video you have more room to allow the camper to go lower (I don’t have ac so I could be wrong )
Would someone use 4? I’m about to order some for my 86 hard sided pally

The stabilizers don't support the full weight. They just need to touchdown to keep it from moving around. The majority of the weight should still be on the tires. I did a poor job of explaining that.
