  • After the morning in Juneau, we spent the afternoon cruising the Endicott Arm. The ride in was overcast and rainy, but heading out was clear and beautiful! We saw a bunch of whales as well. Unfortunately we could not make it all the way to the glacier due to ice, but we were still able to see it from our balcony on Deck 15, and it was still a great afternoon and evening!

    This was the highlight of the trip for me !! We stayed most of the time in the observation deck with our granddaughter. Thank you for the memories 😊😊

    The vast wide open beauty of Alaska is like nowhere else. Once people get away from the crowds on the east coast and west coast and start exploring the great USA they will be amazed at the beauty. I agree, your aft balcony is the way to go, order room service food and you have a front row seat to all the beauty.

      I think what makes an Alaska cruise so different is that each time you go, even if you do the same route, it's so different every time. Throughout the year, the scenery changes, as do the animals you can see. In April, it was quiet in the ports, but more overcast. During the summer, the ports are insane, but there are so many more eagles, salmon, and whales.

    We did Alaska a couple of years ago and loved it. Last year we did Norway, and it blew our minds! Norwegian fjords were out of this world!

    This just made my trip look so exciting now! I have an oceanview room, so hopefully I can get to the observation lounge or even outside to see these. Thank you for these videos!

      The observation lounge will be totally packed, I would stay away from there at all costs. If you don'tt have a balcony, my suggestion would be to stake out a table in the buffet (not in the front, but on a side), and camp out there. We entered the arm around 4:30 PM, so just check to see what time the buffet opens and head right in and grab a table. That way you are in the warmth, have food and drinks, and can relax knowing your location is secure and people won't be crowding around you. Alternatively, the seating outside the buffet on the pool deck is covered from the elements and has heaters. That is another good choice.

    We did the Bliss itinerary two years ago. Didn’t get close to the Dawes Glacier but the Endicott Arm was worthy.
    Then we did the Glacier Bay itinerary on NCL Encore last fall. That was amazing and will be my go-to NCL Alaska trip in the future

      I totally agree about Glacier Bay. I did it on my last cruise on the NCL Joy in 2019. I can only imagine how many baby icebergs would be there this time of the year... probably why they don't go there quite yet.

    Love this video! I am just about to book an Alaskan cruise for May 17, 2025, which happens to be our 45th anniversary. What were the temps when you were there in April?

    • @journeywiththejaneks
      @journeywiththejaneks  21 день назад +1

      The temperature varied, at night in the 30's and 40's, during the day, I would say 50's.

    thanks for showing us the view from an aft cabin. We have an aft cabin alaska cruise scheduled for July, and have been curious how it would look.

      I think being on deck 15 made a big difference as far as our views. If you're on a lower deck, I would definitely see if you can get higher. There may not even be a cost. When we booked it, deck 15 was actually the cheapest.

      @@journeywiththejaneks Our boat doesn't have a Deck 15. 🙂 It's a smaller cruise ship, the Brilliance of the Seas, so we're on 8, in the back. Really looking forward to it.

      I am not positive, but from whale watching in Iceland where they are prevalent, they appeared to be.

    What Camcorder did you use? Going on Princess to Glacier Bay on May 10th and trying to decide how to best capture it for family/friends. Your camera brings out very good colors. What did you use and would you do anything different Thanks!

      @kevinmiller6586 The only thing that was funky was when you zoom in, sometimes the sound goes crazy loud when you play back the video. I had to do a lot of sound edits, especially on the Icy Strait Point video.
