One of my favorite happy songs is "You're so cool", from Hans Zimmer (True Romance OST) and someone mentioned it is inspired in this piece, so I had to look for it.
It's beautiful how one resembles the other without being a copy. It makes me think Zimmer intended to allude to Badlands too.
    Great performance!

Sublime music and a joyous performance. There are several recordings on RUclips, but this is by far the best. I just listened to it six times in a row and could have kept going. What wonderful sounds these little xylophones created, and the pacing and ensemble were perfect. When I recently heard the piece(s) before finding this video, I tried to pick out how many xylophones were playing. The harmonies are so luscious. I also loved the tympanist's flair -- he was into it. Everyone was wonderful, and the "optics" of the young people and their varied outfits added immensely to the fun. Building on someone else's earlier comment, there was nothing mechanical about the repetition, only an awakening of warm feelings. Thank you, Michael, for posting this tape, and Bravo! Your standing ovation was well deserved. Guess I'll listen to it again.

WOW! There's so much about this that I love and appreciate! 1st, that you did this with Orff Schulwerk keyboards while sitting. Sure, you could have done it with a couple of marimbas and a xylophone, but you didn't! 2nd, It's so darn expressive and musical. Nothing mechanical about all the repetition. 3rd, as per the comment below you took someone that's not a mallet player and taught them the part/technique and then put them on stage. Isn't that what pedagogy is all about. I think Mr. Orff would be happy that you did this "children's piece" as a formal recital selection.

I've watched this performance several times and like it very much as I stated in an earlier comment. However there is one thing that kind of annoys me, and that is the young lady with black hair behind you looks like she is ready to nod off and fall to the floor at any moment! She really gives the impression she would rather be somewhere else, didn't she realize there was an audience?

    • @michaelbarranco
