Ford just set a record for a one quarter sales number . My dealership has ZERO 2023 f150s. How is that no sales?
I bought my daughter a used one years ago and we wrenched on it together,we repainted it ourselves the custom exhaust system we installed was like her calling card I could hear her coming through the hills and valleys for miles. She only let it go after getting rear ended by a F250 while at a red light she was so mad at that man for totaling her RX that she forgot she was 8 months pregnant and started chasing the guy with a stick. 20 years later she still talks about that car, and I still love the memories and the exhaust note.
BTW, thanks for the story😊
? So Mazda ISN'T going out of business and we DON'T have to say goodbye to Mazda? What did I miss?
What are you talking about
The headline ... " SAY GOODBYE TO MAZDA " ... didn't you read that, it's the headline of the entire video, " SAY GOODBYE TO MAZDA ". Why would we have to say goodbye to Mazda if it's not going out of business?
@@patrickchubey3127 not sure what you're on about, but I think it's pretty disrespectful right after scotty passed. Too soon mate
It was a shock to the entire car industry😂
You must be new here
Best advice when owning a rotary:
1.Keep them cool
2.A REDLINE a day keeps the carbon away
3. A PREMIX a day keeps the REBUILDS away!
Probably drive them very gently when they are cold too. One of my workmates had a nice old RX7 hardtop, motor was in good nick, he gave it to his son when he got his license and told him to warm it up first before driving it , a week later the motor was blowing smoke like a chimney.
You have look after them if they are going to last.
@@mikldude9376 very true maintenance schedule is more frequent than conventional engines!
Great thing about those rotary engines is they kill a lot of mosquitoes with the exhaust
Thanks Scotty first rotary i see in your house. i sold my 1985 RX-7-GLE (stock engine) the smoothest car i droveand fun to drive.
I bought a first generation RX-7 with a manual transmission new in 1979 to replace my 1968 GTO. Drove it for ten years and put on close to 200k miles without a single issue. I just changed the oil and filter religiously every 5k miles. I really miss that car (both of them)...lot of fun to drive.
Well that was strange a car going past tooting it’s horn just when Scotty was giving us some mechanic talk 😊
I remember when turbine powered cars were entered at Indianapolis. They lapped the other cars but kept breaking down because of some ten cent part.
Sounds typical Chrysler. They have ideas, but no quality control.
youre such a cool dude. im not even crazy about cars but like watching your videos. thank you
Scotty keep up the good work, big fan rob, Malawi africa
Id love to try one of these to feel what that engine feels like.
I had a 1986 RX7 like this one and loved it. The most fun and best handling car I ever owned. I drifted it around corners like no tomorrow. Low Center of gravity and stiff suspension. I had it in Colorado and it actually did quite well in the snow for a rear wheel drive, because the front to back weight was pretty well balanced. It would scream up the mountain passes. Sadly, the engine went out and I abandoned the car. Wish I could have kept it and did what Scotty was talking about and kept it going.
As a RX7 owner I knew used to say, check the gas and fill the oil.
As a floridian and as I sit here in my 1988 2nd gen all black convertible here in Fairbanks Alaska😂 thank you Scotty🙌🏽 ps. I need some lower ball joints for mines and $280 seems steep for my location 😅 cheers!
I'm sorry Scott, I didn't quite catch what you said at 2:16 when that horn honked. Could you please repeat it?
😂
Scotty mentioned racing and Wankels, can’t forget the Mazda 787B! That car absolutely crushed LeMans. Sounds incredible too

I have owned 6 RX7 vehicles 3 turbos and 3 convertibles i sold my last convertible in 2021 the turbos would defintely put your head back in the seat i did own a 10 anniversary edition for a short time i called it my white rocket when the convertible came out i traded that in and bought the convertible i kept two mazda RX7 convertibles for years one for over 25 years and one for over 30 years fun cars i drove them all over the country thank you Mazda
My 87 NA rx7 handled pretty well in the snow with some extra weight in the back. Only if you had good winters on it though. Very fun daily drove one for about 8 years.
Don’t knock it if you haven’t tried it. Bought a brand new RX7 the first year they were available. So much fun to driven!!!
Scotty's wrong about this one thing in California you don't have to get emissions test if the car is 1975 or older
I think they've changed it to 30 years, so anything older than 1994 is OK. But if you have something older than that you're probably taking good care of it anyway!
I have a 1993 mazda miata, engine runs great with less than 100k on it, 2nd owner. It's a Texas car,, no rust, drives and sounds great. I run mobile 1 full synthetic.
I loved my 86 hatch. Good times, especially in the snow..lol. seriously, though, I miss that thing.
I bought Turbo II new IN 1986.5. Great car. Up to 29 mpg actual-- not a computer generated. At 40,000 miles, did not burn oil yet.
I had an '84 RX-7 GSL-SE, and I traded it in on a Porsche 911SC after only two years because the rotary engine was so unsatisfying. I call it the torqueless wonder. My current ride is a Mazda CX-30 Turbo, and it's way faster than the RX-7 was, and it gets much better gas mileage.
Keep posting things like these. After flipping my is350, im going to get something like this 😮
All hail the holy spinning Dorito!
Had a 79 n loved that little speed box. Though it was more like a toy than even a car.
"The piston engine goes bing, bang, boing, but the Mazda engine goes hummmmm!"
spin cycle..
I remember the jingle in the radio 😂
I had a 1987 RX7 was fun but had issues too.
Fuel efficiency was the biggest drawback IMO. Cool concept away.
I'd slap a turbo 4 banger it it myself and solve all it's issues in one go; keep the rotary as a relic.
I've owned a few of these cars and would totally buy another one again but I'm pretty good at total rebuilds on these power plants there really nothing to them and I know your into motorcycles Scotty I also still own a 1975 Suzuki re5 with a rotary engine as well it's the only rotary I have at the moment and I will not part with as long as I draw breathe on this earth. it's was a dream bike that I made come true took me 15 years to find one and Im the second owner of the blue beauty. I own 2 Miata as well still one is a 1990 and the other is a 1991 the 90 is a hard top I plan to put a rotary in the 1991 when the motor craps out lol I had a RX8 for a while but with the converter it made it crap if it was removed it would be just as good as the rx7.
The RX7 was on display at the Epcot Center saying rotary engine is the future.
In 1990 I had a 1972 Mazda RX2 as a daily driver!!! Fun zippy car.
Show us rotary engine oil change. Oil pan on rotary engines, how does that work?
I could never understand why the rotary engine never made it big as an airplane engine
I HAD THREE RX-7s - DO NOT CHANGE THE COLOR TO WHITE - THIS BLACK IS AMAZING if anything just repaint the black - I had a '78 4 speed all though high school - super rare miss that car so much also had an '86 & '91 - almost bought a '93 back then too - those 3rd gen cars are incredibly beautiful - I never would have believed my Japanese cars would become collector's items or I would have kept them all. I LOVE these cars and the memories I had in them.
in California emissions exempt is cars 1975 or older.
The biggest downside to those RX-7s was that there weren't a lot of mechanics that really knew how to work on them and a good number of owners just didn't maintain them well.
I'm also mad that we don't get the Mazda 6 Wagon in the US. I don't need 4 cars between the CX 5 and the CX 90
We did get the Mazda6 wagon. We got all versions of the Mazda6. We got the 4 door sedan, 5 door hatch and 5 door wagon. After the first generation, we only got the sedan thereafter.
That's fair and accurate. More accurately, I wish we got the modern Mazda 6 (in general) but specifically the wagon.
@@MultiHomersimpson123 Well, when we had the wagon, nobody bought it. They all bought the CX-9. The 6 wagon was sweet too because it could be had with 220 horses and a 6 speed manual transmission. And nobody bought it! Makes me angry because I loved those.
We raced Rx2 and put a big Holley 4 barrel and blew the doors off dodge 426 hemis at strip but after 2/3 run we blew those rotary seals out and spraying oil on track and team Rx2 not welcome on tracks, this was early 70s
They took no prisoners.Around a track or on a winding road
Sadly, Colorado would require emissions tests on that car, too.
I was getting my car smog check my hood was up the smog technician was looking at my motor when he heard a vehicle pull up behind me he look's around the hood and says oh crap those are always a pain in the a$$ to get to pass.
RX7s are collector cars everywhere else in the world. The ones in wrecker yards will likely all be gone soon enough. Bodies of the cars will not be available after they are put in the crushers then prices go up.
Suzuki made a rotary motorcycle too, the water buffalo was it's nickname, I also drove a buddies rx7 back in the 80’s and a rx8 in 2015 maybe the 7 was far better
The water buffalo was a three cylinder inline water cooled 2stroke, not a rotary.
the fc rx7 is my favorite model of rx7
Guess that's my new car.I miss my Ford probe it just kept climbing 2
A Mazda rotary engine was the first engine we took apart in my Commercial trucking (diesel mechanics) class. We couldn't take out the valves/valve springs because we didn't have the right tool for that specific engine, (according to my instructor.
Scotty talking about these RX-7's being so fast when this particular NA FC vert example is slow as a dog. But yes, they are ideal race engines with quite accessible potential to be fast. If you are looking to get a rotary on a budget, RX-8's are a much better bang for your buck performance wise.
I plan on rebuilding this engine i just want at least 350 -400 to the wheels
mine was a 1985 zoom zoom
Hear the ambulance in the background! Scotty killed another RUclipsr!! 😂
Scotty, Mazda killed their best car a long time ago back in 1996. The Mazda 929.
They brought it back as the Mazda millenia but even that didn't last
@@brianfox7926 No, they didn't bring it back as the Millennia. The Millennia was introduced in 1995 and sold alongside the 929 for model years 1995 & 1996. The 929 never had a replacement.
Mazda 929 competed against 6 cylinder rear wheel drive foreign luxury cars like the Lexus GS300 & Infiniti j30. Mazda Millenia in lower trim competed against 6 cylinder foreign cars like lower trim Nissan Maxima & Mitsubishi Diamante (both with cloth interiors and plastic wheel covers). In high trim, Mazda Millenia competed against Mitsubishi Diamante high trim, Lexus ES300 & Infiniti i30.
Ford killed Mazda
Little old lady has to be from Pasadena,- or it doesn`t count.
Mazda 787b noises intensifies. :)
someone is always dying on this show 😂
Scotty you alone have inspired me to be a mechanic to help others just like you do I will continue to expand my knowledge of cars keep up the great videos I’ll always be learning more
Had a 1983 Rx-7 and it was a dream. Drank gas like a V8 though.
About the same as a 302
rip mazda 1894-2024. You had a good run, it's been real
Dominican republic flag I see 😊
The furai is cool on Forza 4
Put that motor in a Miata. ❤️
Scotty, while it is true that there are supercharger kits for the mazda miata (which I think is awesome), I think you should have mentioned the turbocharger option more importantly, as it is a lot more common and there is probably a lot more knowledge of and aftermarket support for it. also more potential for more power than with a supercharger. Maybe one of your viewers will be kind enough to let you drive their turbo or supercharged miata one day lol
I can only expect 60,000 miles before it's time for another engine???
I think we're done here.
It has 111000 miles no engine work has been done to it my rx7 is all original no rebuild nothing
the Celicas went FWD. lol
The first ones in 1986 were good
9:29 - GTFOH... I'm in my mid 40s and have two cars but I pay just under $190/mth. Haven't had a ticket since I was in my 20s, no lapse in insurance, and no wrecks. WTF?!
You must either drive a boat or live in a sparsely populated area where they have no cops.
I’m pretty good but even I have gotten speeding tickets in the last twenty years that are still below five.
@@JTR253 Wrong on both counts, actually. Retired military, have driven all over the world From Saudi Arabia to Iceland, Korea to Guam, and most states in the union... EDIT: I use cruise control religiously and only ever do 5 over the limit. The paperwork costs more than the ticket would garner revenue at that speed, so cops don't bother.
That's a nice example. Rotors for life.
If only rotors were for life
@@MrWaltercronkite Gotta rebuild like every race engine ever. They're far easier than a piston engine. Basically a gas powered brushless motor
I had a Mazda RX4 coupe. Was very quick and fun to drive. It needed plugs and points every 10,000 miles. So much for the winky wankle engine. Got terrible gas mileage.
oooo review a 99 porsche boxster next :D
I like it a lot better when the owners allow Scotty *_"to do the driving of their cars"_* .
Scotty Kilmer Would have loved to drive this "manual shift" sports car. ❤️🔥
I miss my rx7
Bravo Scotty thank you for all you do 😀😀😀.
Mazda should make a Truck, might not drip gas on the Road😂
I bought a new b2000 in 1985. Great truck. Owned it for 14 years.
They sell trucks there just not in the USA
They made a lot of vans trucks and some buses.Popular in asia and australia.Good units and economical
I honestly believe this is the best looking Mazdas ever made nowadays I think they look hideous
Agreed
Why? Mazda’s little 4 banger is great a little engine…just enough power to be fun with a 6 speed, well made, simple and reliable.
Right, don't need much to get into trouble. I had a 1969 Datsun 2000 with a 2 liter engine. I got it up to 110mph on my way to Sacramento once. Never again. But it was great driving the mountain roads.
Not much torque I have a s2000 same thing
Afternoon Scotty!
Hey, Scotty. I was in the first class of dealer techs starting in Nov. 1972 to learn this engine and cars. I was blessed. It was a blast. All dealers on the East Coast opened in the fall of 1972 and were connected to already opened, successful, dealerships………..Over time, I must have rebuilt over 300 13A and 13B Rotary engines. Then Mazda started making factory rebuilt, warranted replacement engines. I am 70 now and severe arthritis of my hands limits me to dreaming, no more “hands on”. All the best to you.
Look for a topical prescription medication called Pennsaid.
I hope it helps.
@@cspruitt3190 Thank you ! As you can imagine, its no fun not being able to do a lot with your hands after doing so much over the years. Thanks again, I am going to look into it today.....!
I love how Scotty waves away the most severe issues with the car if he likes the car. RX-7 is an awful car with in-built engine death. Every long term owner will go through several engines and it will cost a fortune to repair. But that is okay in his book when his favorite company does it, but not when maintenance costs are high for other companies?
Double standards.
Thoughts fam on buying a Lexus gs 300 that def needs an alternator and pedal sensor for 500$. Needs to be repainted too😅
Get ur self a great deal.
Great project, known to be 'bulletproof'👍
Also, lots of Toyota parts are shared with Lexus check the comparable Toyo part, often cheaper
@@unclebob7937 really!? Well I found out all I need is an alternator possibly and a pedal sensor. Car starts then shuts off. I also need front and back lights but yes.....I saw the cheapness. Amazing.
Check for rust
I miss my 1st gen RX-7
"Little old lady from Pasadena" perhaps?
Mazda > Ford
Correct Mazda=Ford
Mazda was part of Ford, they even sold callipers for Mazda 3 with Ford logo😅
@dajon122 Wait, what? How? Mazda completely broke free from Ford years ago.
Ford still milking that 2.3 Mazda engineered though.
Except mustang
2012 and up they stoped everything with ford. Now they are 💯 japanese..
Mazda came from walt disney world.
They use to put mustang engines in those mazdas miata....
"every state...other than California" ha😅😅😅
I’m worrying about that biiib sound 😂
Rumor mill says that Mazda may come out with a hybrid rotary RX 7. Wonder if they resolved the oil consumption issue.
Looks like Scotty wasn't allowed to drive
He was he choose not to
Madza has its up and down
Mostly up now. Reliability is way up nowadays.
Mazda just killed their 1988 RX7. Glad Scotty was not alive to see that.
I remember that in early 90's in MN with my '85 Chevy Nova going to that center the probe
in the tail pipe and mirror to confirm is had a CC. Just trying to participate.
Scotty, do something with the camera. I am getting car sick again.
Miata - An Austin Healy Sprite with oversteer. If you like oversteer, they are a hoot to take to the limits.
More like an MGB ?
Perfect California car with all the freeways we have, and mountain roads.
Afternoon Scotty😊
Hello subscriber!
you mean not the little ole lady from Pasadena😅
I had a 1984 Mazda GLC in the nineties for 4 1/2 years and I beat the heck out of it! I loved that car. Afterwards I had a 92 bmw 328i and it was equally as fun, just more expensive. I wish they would bring back the GLC. Great little car!
No rust? Great, but isn't Florida, Georgia...prone to floods and thus flooded vehicles? Shouldn't one check for water damage on the inside?
Yes rust ... but only within a few miles of the ocean.
