Amazing, yes. Performing a useful purpose, no. As the Rotary Engine has a number of inherent flaws making this the modern equivalent of the Hall-Scott Military Truck engines, as used in the Dragon-Wagon which were replaced by Turbo Diesel Engines... I wonder what they could do if they made a Horizontally Opposed Piston Turbo Diesel Two Stroke, as instead of getting half the efficiency with a rotary when compared to a conventional engine, they could achieve almost double the efficiency...
@@davidhollenshead4892 designs have their ups and downs. take Detroit engines for example. You know them, the Screamin' Jimmys. Yeah they're not the most efficient, but they make fantastic generator engines because of just how fast they get up to higher RPMs compared to 4-stroke diesels.

Gasoline engines alone have many orders of magnitude left in their potential. It's critical to know, what the public has been using, is only a fraction of what is possible. Have you noticed that garage builders never try to innovate the fundamental design of an engine? Never. You need to find a way to invent a new combustion technology. That's where the future is. Lean burn engines are VERY POSSIBLE. The 1973 Shell Oil sponsored race, a 1959 Opel got 376 miles per gallon.

Wow, what a talented engineer he is! Wouldn't it be cool if you were able to create an engine management system that could adjust how many rotars you used for the power needed at the time to save fuel and increase lifespan?
I remember watching Tyson build this about a decade ago, I was in shear amazement and still am at the level of engineering and creativity. I never thought it would revolutionize offshore racing engines like he did, but I had to give him an A+++ for effort and innovation! This wasn't the only insane build he did either, lots of super cool boat, engine, and powertrain builds. He's a true innovator for sure!
Is there any content online??
@@DannyMcmonagle94 I followed his builds on Offshore Only (it's a offshore boating forum). There's years of his content and creations on there. Simply amazing stuff.
Those twin turbo Smith power big blocks are a work of art. They went into a 388 on GLOC that was smoking fast.
Glad to see them bringing out the 12 rotor.
@@prepchris145 The 388's are a fast hull, but you're 100% correct, those Smith Power engines were nasty! It was sad to see Brad pass away due to a stupid accident back in 2013 (?). He was a super talented builder, fabricator, and tuner. I still have one of his old black "Smith Power" tee shirts with the chrome letters! 😎
As a precision engineer.....I am in awe, this guy is a legend. Make it work Rob.
Seriously though, is everyone gonna gloss over the MODULAR rotary engine aspect? That ease of 2 4 6 8 rotor builds is a multi million idea that he should have been pitching to mazda or other third party brands.
@@R0FLC4T5 With the new upcoming rotary supplementary engine from Mazda I’m hoping they’ll properly revive the purely rotary-driven cars again, a modern-day RX-7 with a cutting-edge rotary would be 👌
Pretty damned fine engineering... must have run out of $$$ as he is using spur gears... Engine that size will be losing ~100+++ HP in those gears instead of something superior but more costly to machine
@@w8stral i mean he did also mention that the tech to even have efi for it didn't exist and they were using 2 jag v12 setups. He really constructed the main body in assembling and machining the entire housing setup and shafts. I'm sure there's a lot to modernize and overhaul to get every drop of power out.
I'd like to see it run, instead of bs'ed about a guy who says it runs... and if it runs I figure the next rebuild willl be very soon considering all the seals 1 rotor needs 9 compresion seals.. thats 108 seals that could go bad.... lol no rotary's are not great...
Absolute genius for the counter rotation build. I can't even imagine how this would sound. It's going to take some impressive radiator setup to cool this beast.
the amount of hours this guy put in on just the R&D the engineering put in and the technical stuff to make this a reality would be unfathomable. pretty exited to see this series to see it run in the end
@@davidhollenshead4892 Have you been here long?

An absolutely awesome piece of engineering. It does not get any more impressive than this. Well done. Gold star.
I'm studying mechanical engineering and I was feeling a bit down about the career, but seeing this type of things just makes me want to finish as soon as possible and start working on some awesome stuff like this.
Definitely you are one of my biggest inspirations for doing what I'm doing, making with every single video remember me why I want to do this.
Thanks Rob❤
Gasoline engines alone have many orders of magnitude left in their potential. It's critical to know, what the public has been using, is only a fraction of what is possible. Have you noticed that garage builders never try to innovate the fundamental design of an engine? Never. You need to find a way to invent a new combustion technology. That's where the future is. Lean burn engines are VERY POSSIBLE. The 1973 Shell Oil sponsored race, a 1959 Opel got 376 miles per gallon.
@@andyharman3022 i will, thanks for the recommendation pal

I’ve been watching Rob since he had around 1,000 subscribers. He continues to get better and smarter with each video. He has always broken things down to an easy to understand level for people who may not know much about cars and rotary engines. Amazing content since the beginning
There's always a VERY fine line between madness and genius, and I haven't made my mind up about this yet!!!

So amazing watching them work/engineer/ do ANYTHING together! One bright light meets another bright light and you get THE SUN! 😂 Cannot wait to see the next video!
I just want to say I’m honoured to be alive and breathing to be able to witness this masterpiece of a video. The Chevy man himself to build such a godly weapon that no one on this earth would do and also educate me as well to rob on everything he did was just perfection. I’ll be getting a divorce and pay child support to live in a abandoned shed with window washing profits for data to watch this series
I remember many years ago seeing the potato quality video of this beast... and im still in awe to this day on the level of engineering this man put into this. Seriously beautiful piece of craftsmanship.
I was so used to seeing V engines because of pistons and even though I knew this was a rotary engine, I didn't realize this was actually 3 4-rotor engines connected together until I saw the 4 throttle bodies that are supposed to feed 12 rotors meaning 3 rotors per body. This engine is priceless and the maker of it is really pleasant to listen to.
No, 4 rotors per body…
A great example of what happens when someone who has tons of experience pushing limits outside of the rotary world comes into the rotary world. Crazy how simple he made the complexity. Awesome opportunity and video.
It was built 15 years ago, Whoa!! Counter rotation 😮 it’s incredible how big a Big block is, this engine is far above my level of understanding, but I can appreciate the sheer genius of even thinking of let alone making such a engine 😃
