Also Luigi could've been an great addition to even out the members to 6 and had more funny dialog between him and mario in certain moments.

@@tantacles just beat the game today. In my experience for the rankings. I found Geno to be too expensive and the time normal attacks are oddly awkward to pull off in this version. My party most consistent of Bowser with zoom shoes and Mallow. Both thunder bolt or snowy and Terrorize is so cheap compared the rest of the screen nukes it made the game go by so very fast. The only fights Geno was useful were bosses with no weaknesses and had multiple targets. In Original game Bowser was the worst due to how impossible his specials were to pull off. The remake made him into better Geno. I some time just swapped Geno in for the full party buff triple an switch him out.

With the ability to switch in/out mid-battle, I think Bowser sees more play and Peach sees less. Bowser’s fantastic for random enemies and when you’re not in need of heal, and when you do you can bring in Peachie for a quick hug.

Actually this applies to Geno as well, especially Lazy Shell Geno.
You don't really have to commit to Geno, you just bring him out, use Geno Boost, then swap him away for whoever else you want. Geno Boost doesn't care about offensive stats, so if you're gonna use him this way, he looses nothing, and you probably don't have to heal him for this service, or at least very infrequently.
Also of note is maybe "storing" Geno boost, that is boosting someone, then putting them in the back so they dodge dispels. This might be a really good synergy with Bowser or Peach, since Bowser can jump out, clobber someone, then duck out.
This ALSO further boosts the Lazy Shell, since a character can very much live a life of just coming out to tank for someone else. Bowser in particular, since if you're not interested in using him to fight, he's a nigh unkillable brick that just sits there, maybe chucking items and not dying while you set up for big turns and protecting buffs.
Peach probably still uses it best... but you have interesting options.

Mallow turned into my favourite in this iteration with Thunderbolt alone. Two FP for a quick special that does significant damage is so busted. Combined with the fact that Thought Peek contributes to the bestiary makes him a hard party member to ever not main. His timed attacks are all much easier to perfect than most others as well.

I feel like Mallow and Bowser can be a bit higher.
A lot of things are weak against Lightning and Ice - the two things Mallow covers. It’s actually way more than I remember (cuz the game actually tells you now lol). So I was using him a lot.
Bowser also has some *crazy* team attacks with everyone. I used Clown Car Barrage the most because it was great at clearing out large encounters. But the one he has with Geno is also pretty nuts.
But something they both have in common is that being able to switch them in and out has made them a lot better than they were in the original.

    • @train4292

I've always used Bowser, I don't care were he sits, but in the remake his tripple with Peach and Mario is bonkers.
As for Mallow, he's definitely stronger than in the original. I figured that out when he made Spearovitch his bitch, and then in Booster round 2, two turned all 3 sniffits, making the fight a joke.

    • @Manas-co8wl
      @Manas-co8wl 6 месяцев назад

Mallow is so underrated. Here's how you use him, you upgrade only the MGA, MGD (with occasional HP whenver there's a leap) as he levels up and use him as an elemental glass cannon. Tons of enemies are weak to lightning and ice, including the crystals of Culex and two of Smithy's final forms. I did more than 900 for Smithy using Shocker on his tank form, I'm sure with the right equipments he can do more than a thousand; he basically did half the last fight alone. Best map clearer for normal enemies too that only costs 2FP, I know FP is not that much of a big deal in this game, but it's also such a quick and easy spell. Mallow is also more tanky than you think, especially MGD. Most late game enemies have super powerful MGA, but his pure MGD is more than enough to protect him.
This is not even including the fact that I need Thought Peek for almost all the enemies. Really hard not to main Mallow. It was true back in the Snes days, it's more so now that there's a Monster List to complete. With Mario and Mallow with sufficient awareness of your enemies weaknesses, along with Geno which is just best all around, swapping in Peach and Bowser whenever you need healing and raw attack power/triple move, you just steamroll the game. Plus it was poetic to end the game with the triple move with the other two OG characters of SMRPG.

  • @Evilj82
    @Evilj82 7 месяцев назад +3

Peach with Lazy Shell was the reason why I was able to beat 2D Culex on my first try. I was spending resources trying to revive my characters , then I realized I could just take out one of the crystals first while Peach tanked everything. Once that was done, I revived my team and brought down the rest of the crystals.

I will say I really love the addition of being able to swap out party members mid-battle they added to this remake. In the original game I primarily stuck with Mario/Geno/Peach but thanks to being able to swap out the party members whenever I wanted I also gave Mallow and Bowser plenty of time to shine, including during the final boss and the rematch fight with . Geno and Peach were still my primary party members but it was nice to give Mallow and Bowser attention too.

  • @SMRPGFAN101
    @SMRPGFAN101 7 месяцев назад +4

Most players do not know this, but Mario's 3FP costing Jump attack gets stronger the more you use it in the original SNES version at least. I think it caps its power at something like 150 perfect timed hits. I've seen that jump attack deal over 1000 damage to a single paratroopa enemy in the first area with a max level Mario with a max jump stat. I imagine the attack scarf and super suit make this even more ridiculous.

    • @TlbHibiki
      @TlbHibiki 7 месяцев назад

This. I used to think Mario was mediocre and would build him as a lazy shell attacker until I found out about his jump scaling with use. Now he's usually the one carrying the party allowing me to skip most battles since he's strong enough to deal with just about anything that's about to come up.

I wish Bowser was better in this game. For some reason, starting at level 19, Bowser will do LESS physical damage than Peach when both have their respective equipment. Peach actually becomes one of your best physical damage dealers with the frying pan and Bowser just...just does not. Poor Bowser. If he got a massive buff to every stat he'd be really good and fun but he's just not and it makes me sad.

  • @manguy01

    Mallow has 3 great uses:
    1. *Troopa Pin* - AOE clear basically guaranteed before any enemy can attack.
    2. *Best Magic* - Highest magic stat in game. Weaknesses do BIG damage when combined with Attack Up. (x3)
    3. *Ally Buff* - Gives whole party +25% to their Magic stat.
    Also:
    4. *Super Suit* - Since Magic is the most impactful stat, due to its limited distribution, the +50 Magic the Super Suit gives is begging to be used. This works best on Mario, but Mario is already plenty strong with the Attack Scarf. Magic buffs are most impactful in AOE attacks and when exploiting weaknesses. So, Mallow is the best fit for these criteria. His Snowy and Star Rain got a big buff and Shocker has always been good. With all the multipliers added up, his Snowy can do 1200 damage to Red Gem 3D. Also, his Attack stat becomes just as good as Geno/Peach when using Super Suit.

Mario not being in S tier is criminal as he's the most OP party member in the game when he's got his Attack Scarf, Super Suit and Lazy Shell combo and the fact that you put Geno in S tier for his Geno boost alone is a huge fail on your part. That move sucks as it's to slow to use in normal fights as they end to quickly and even some boss fights end to quickly to use Geno boost and now with the new triple party attack you can end some boss fights even faster.

Just throwing this out there. The first Culex battle can be easily won with Peach wearing the Lazy Shell. Just keep her healed until every enemy runs out of FP. Attack when you can. First go for Earth or Wind, then Water, Fire, the Culex. And when they run out of FP, revive your party members and you're done. And you can do something similar with Culex 3D.

    Lazy Shell Geno
If all you ever do is use Geno for Geno Boost, Lazy Shell is good enough on him. Simply start the battle with a fast party, and Swap Geno in to get around the Speed loss. However, if Geno is slower, this does mean the 2nd team member misses 1 extra turn of being Boosted. This can be circumvented by Speed accessories, since their Speed buffs are not affected by the Lazy Shell. But, then you have the problem of one party member being slower than 20 speed. You also have the awkwardness of trying to Boost the 3rd party member after switching Geno out, which requires Yoshi-Ade.
Geno's armor is weaker than Mario's, Mallow's and Peach's. So, he gets more out of Lazy Shell. But due to all the complications, it's somewhat inefficient. You always have the option of using Bombs to attack with the Lazy Shell. But that's true for everyone. Bowser is a much better dedicated item user.

Also, most bosses are weak to Lightning or Ice. He also gains access to the first AoE damage in the game and has probably killed the most trash mobs/boss adds in the game for me.

My SMRPG tier list for the original:
    S: Peach, Mario
    A: Geno
    B: Mallow
    C: Bowser
    for the remake:
    S: Mallow, Mario
    A: Geno, Bowser
    B: Peach
Mario: required party member in both versions, access to broken accessories and broken spells in the Jump line. Unparalleled single-target damage master.
Mallow: The primary offensive magic user in the party. Situational in the original, invaluable in the remake due to indirect buffs favoring him heavily since his ally buff being Magic Attack combined with his spells offering cheaper multi-target damage than anyone else + the ability to take advantage of elemental weaknesses and him and Bowser being required to pull off the best Triple Move in the entire game.
Geno: Sticks to his role as a stat buffer and secondary ST- and MT-damage dealer. Due to the revamped inventory system and the ease of getting Frog Coins due to the Stronger Enemy mechanic, Geno faces harder competition for the third main party slot since Party Energizers are easier to get hold off and hoard, and Bowser's raw stats and better defenses will keep him competitive with Geno up until around late Barrel Volcano/early Bowser's Keep where Geno starts getting armor and weapons that help shore up his fragility and lets him equal and (later in Bowser's Keep) surpass the big turtle in physical damage + this is when he's also started to learn MT-target damage spells which surpass Bowser's in pure damage dealing potential, which makes him notably better until postgame allows Bowser to catch up with him again due to his postgame weapon allowing him to outdamage Geno. He and Bowser are required for the second-best Triple Move though, which is better than Mallow + Bowser's move in certain situations.
Bowser: Worst party member in the original and warms the bench the most there. In the remake however, he is consistently your second choice for the third main party slot, competing with Geno for that position. In Bowser's case, this is due to higher physical damage if Geno's ally buffs are unavailable, access to Terrorize as an MT-damage spell with a chance of Fear (which cuts enemy defenses and offenses down which makes your own attacks more effective, especially with the Offense buff), and higher base HP and base Defense which let him take hits better than Geno for most of the game. For the remake in general, Bowser starts out better, then Geno catches up and you field one of them depending on what you want or need more, then Bowser falls off around late Barrel Volcano or Bowser's Keep, then catches up to Geno during the postgame and the one you choose to field is once again up to you.
Peach: The undisputed best in the original, and she has retained everything that made her good in that game. However, indirect changes to the game mechanics have also indirectly nerfed her as a character because the changes done means that her speciality as the undisputed best healer is significantly less needed here than in the original, and items are now much more capable of filling the void left by not having her in the party. She's warming the bench a lot in the remake until you sub her in because you really need her healing spells, her status effects are a lot more situational than Bowser's Terrorize, Psych Bomb only deals damage equal to Mallow's Star Rain and costs a bit more + Mallow has the Magic Attack ally buff which means he's required to have if you want Psych Bomb to be at it's best. Her Triple Moves are also very situational, especially her Triple Move with Geno. (Mario/Peach/Geno was the original SMRPG god team.) As a result, she's probably the worst character in the remake; not because she isn't what she was in the original, but because the remake powercrept her.

You don't need peach for the game at all, and ge o boosting is such a waste of time for anything in the game.
But the Mario, Bowser and Mallow team is the best team in the remake again for the weaknesses. Just deals so much more damage than anything else.

That, combined with how it nerfs attack, makes it significantly less useful. Something he doesn't mention here is that it also sets your speed to 0, which is why I always combined it with the Jinx Belt in the original (which gives you +12 speed if I recall correctly). Even in the original, the only ones I would ever put it on were Peach and Mario, because they are the only ones who get weapons "beyond" the final weapons in Bowser's Keep.
Personally, I always liked Mallow in the party. I typically am slightly over-leveled, so I don't need the healing that Peach offers (Mallow's weaker healing is more than adequate), and Psych Bomb takes a ton of FP. Peach isn't worth anything offensively until you get the frying pan either. I also found that even in the later game (especially in Bowser's Keep doing the fighting doors), thunderbolt is still strong enough to take out most enemies with a single hit at a cost of only 2FP. While Mallow has the fewest hit points throughout the game (except for the first like two levels you have Peach), he also has among the better defenses (he has the best magic defense if my memory serves me, and his physical defense was still okay).
For me, Mario and Bowser were both one trick ponies. Bowser is pretty much physical only, Whereas Mario has middling physical and jump. I never found his fire spells to be useful because his magic attack was poor. I typically run Bowser in Booster's tower, but take him out right after the cake, not normally to be seen again until I get to Bowser's Castle, where he is only useful because he scares the monsters away.

4.Bowser -> B Tier his moveset isnt really good but his Fear Attack is usefull
    5. Peach -> A Tier because she is a great healer but doesnt really do much damage at all, is use her more for support.
    Thats what i think.

    Lazy Shell Bowser
He is actually one of the best users of the Lazy Shell. His Heel Shell is garbage, worse than Work Pants. Bowser mostly gets by on his level up stats alone. This means that wearing the Lazy Shell is a BIG jump in defenses for him. He's actually invincible. And he gets about 220 HP without any investment. So what is he good for in this state? *_ITEMS_*
Bowser can solo Culex with Bombs in the SNES version. And with the remake giving us TONS more item inventory, he gets even more useful. And if you ever run out, you can always use Star Egg. But that has never happened to me.

Lazy shell already reduces elemental attacks markedly AND gives immunity to status effects. The only thing it doesn’t do is give immunity to instant death. However with jinkx belt she reclaims some of her offensive potential and avoids instant death. The safety ring is frankly redundant and is better used on someone who doesn’t have lazy shell armor equipped.

Like if there was a Donkey Kong Country Isle with five different levels and it was paid(or free would be cool but unrealistic)DLC for $20, this DLC would be available at any time after Rose Town and so you can just go ahead and unlock Donkey Kong and the exclusive items to help you in the main story if you’d like. It would probably have a couple other Kongs in the DLC but it’s unrealistic to expect them playable too, but I think this is a great Idea, what are ur guys’ thoughts?

Good list. Currently have the party at level 20. Decided to see how stats compared without gear and the interesting find is Mario’s stats are bad; Geno’s stats are better in every attribute. His attack is 3rd highest(119): barely above Peach’s(114), and completely overshadowed by Geno and Bowser (145, 148 respectively). Mallow is lowest at (110). His remaining stats are all 3rd place with exception of Magic Def; which is last.
I think Mario may be the lowest ranked character. I noticed something similar with Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle; the rest of the cast outshined Mario in utility and function. In both games Mario is required so it’s likely a side effect of balancing the game. At least that was my conclusion when I played M+R:KB.
With current equipment he has second highest attack and magic attack (tied with Mallow), but the overall worst defense. Side note: I have everyone equipped with the Work Pants for the +10 attack, so I’m not using the best available in terms of defense.

@donaldmccabe7366 Yes, five fights where you *maybe* use Mallow's triple-tech to revive the useful party members.
Let me be clear, I rank Mallow much higher than most. Thunderbolt is useful in so many areas beyond the first Act...but trying to argue improved weapons in the post game is good because one character can use it for five fights only highlights what a let down it is. What about the other characters? Oh they get to use it for four fights! Three? Two?
If +10 Magic Atk changed a character meaningfully then we'd see that character slapped with an offensive accessory and have the answers.
Making the entire game easier and adding some gimmick fights to the end is not what this needed.
I bought it, I beat it, I even bought a second copy as a gift for my sister. I'm glad it got made.
But they had decades of feedback to know the game could use more difficulty, not less.
All the QoL improvements are great...but they'd mean even more if there was a hard mode that actually made you have to try.
One of my favorite games of all time but I can't recommend the remake to people who have already played the original. Not for $60+. If you haven't played it before, amazing, easy pick up. Otherwise don't bother.

Heel Shell is garbage, so you can freely give him Work Pants for +10 Attack and lose virtually nothing. Build him all Attack on Lvl Ups for 292 Attack with all equipment and still has 219 HP.

B Tier: Mario - Too bad you're stuck with him, but he's alright. Attack Scarf, Lazy Shell. If you can casually get 100 super jumps in a row with troopa medal, you can essentially one shot 3D culex.
