    My funding is limited to my VA disability and Navy retirement (minus the 25% they gave the ex), so money is an issue. I saved up and have bought one of these. Money well spent. .22lr is cheaper than any other caliber and this is quite accurate within its design range. Also saved up and bought a used 1911 .45 pistol. Also quite accurate within its design range. I can harvest small game with the AR7, and I can stop any threat up to and including Black Bear with a .45, which is the largest carnivore in the area. Reasonable prices on both .22lr and .45 acp

    No one has ever asked to "try one of my guns"...until i pull out the henry. Nothing but smiles. The consensus after shooting is that rifle goes to the top of their SHTF list.

    I've got one of these rifles. Great little gun. Henry took the design and tweaked the bugs out of it and in doing so created a reliable little fun gun. Anyone who trash talks these guns is simply rehashing information based on the older guns and is not versed on these new rifles. I highly recommend these little guns for behind the truck seat or for a pack on a hike etc, where a compact rifle is required.

    A simple cut from a "sand" bicycle tire tube will snugly secure and waterproof the seam of the rifle. Great vid.

  • @toryknotts8026
    @toryknotts8026 3 года назад +1

    I'd wrap some electrical tape around the seam, to waterproof it ( no gasket? ).
    I'd also add a buttstock sling adapter and a buttstock magazine pouch.

    I gotta get me one of these! I do a lot of kayaking & hate taking a pistol even though I have 3 dry wells. I take my grandchildren 2 at a time out with me in lakes in GA that have been known to have gators. I grew up in South Louisiana & all it takes is a 22 lr to kill one, I've done it! Couple that with the ability to have in a pack is excellent! As mentioned, it can come in handy when hiking with my 3 dogs, just in case something were to happen like getting lost, while unlikely where we usually go but we're moving to TN as soon as we can so this would allow me to hunt to feed us all!
    I dearly love this channel, the store is awesome with quick delivery even with the c19 mess! Highly recommend it! Got some really cool stuff. The knives are above my pay grade so are on my list of "wishes"!

    I’ve had an old armalite AR7 for years good little guns use to be my Jeep gun switched to a Ruger 10-22 take down its a little bigger and takes up a little more room but still fits in the limited space of a Packed up Jeep and would fit in a pack. I prefer the 10-22 takes down it feels like a rifle and is more accurate and dependable never shot a Henry AR7 but my armalite jams pretty regularly. Still good gun for what it is.

    I had one of these several years ago. After the potted metal receiver literally blew apart, no injuries to myself or bystanders, I swore I'd never own another one. BTW, I was shooting standard velocity.22LR ammunition. I don't remember who manufactured it back then, possibly Charter Arms? They offered to replace it... "Thanks, but... no thanks", I said. Hopefully Henry Repeating Arms has eliminated that problem.

    I had one of the Charter Arms AR7; never had any problems with it. It always was a crowd pleaser at the range. Big gripe was no way to mount an optic. A small profile red dot would of made it much easier for old eyes. Henry will soon have one in 22mag. It should be the hands down favorite; my best guess. The magnum is my choice for a one gun armory.

    Great review thanks Jack. Not sure why so many people hate the 22? its a super capable and reliable round. And its cheap to boot! $19.99 for 500 rounds. I have done a fair bit of hunting and trapping, and I have taken down everything from squirrels to coyotes with a 22.

    that was a good review of the rifle i also have it i was surprised and how good it shoots even after taking it apart and putting it back together the only bad part (witch might not be bad) is that you have to use high velocity rounds unless you want to rack it every round yourself

    I don't mind the 22 but it isn't the biggest of rounds. At the camp i'm a staffer at that's what we shoot. It is reliable but not big enough for what I do.

    Great shootin'! That would be great for a bug out bag, I'm already thinking about getting one. I like how compact it is, plus with
    .22 you can carry much more ammo than you could with 5.56 or .223 ammo. Also you can still take down some bigger game with .22, because Chris McCandless took down a moose with his .22! Therefore, it is pretty versatile.

    • @BlackScoutSurvival
      @BlackScoutSurvival  9 лет назад +1

    for my kit I prefer the ruger 10-22 take-down brush stainless model.
    I put a sling & a flashlight on it & carved a slot for a fire steel to slide in flush.
    if you don't have another gun with you I'd be confident in it and a few bx25 mags (if it's all I had with me ). I've shot over 4,000 rounds through it of various CCI & federal ammo with out a miss.. no jams anything. I've killed a 500lb wild boar with it from 30 yards away dropped dead head shot.(it was trapped in a cage). I would feel confident hunting small & large game with it. it takes getting used to but with the iron sights I can put it between a squirrels eyes.
    pests beware with the flash light at night a raccoons eyes light up at 100 yards with my streamlight attached.

    Just thought your AR-7 fans would like to know that there is an excellent article in the January 2017 issue of American Rifleman magazine on the history of the AR-7. If you're an AR-7 fan (like me) you gotta read this. My AR-7 is a Charter Arms purchased in 1991. I won't go into detail of my experiences (good and bad) with this gun. Another fun and interesting article is from a magazine titled "Popular .22's" published in 1983 (I think) by gun guru Phil Engledrum (apologies to Phil if I misspelled his name) that is chock full of information. This is not a plug for the NRA, however if you're a gun owner it's worth considering.
    Beg, borrow, steal (or buy) this issue of American Rifleman, you gotta read this.

    It doesn't float, but you could use a waterproof backpack that does float and keep it in there... so what do you think of a Keltec Sub-2000 9mm folder, or their folder SU-16c, or a PLR-16 .223 pistol with a strap which you can tension to turn in to a kind of inverse buttstock by pushing away from you?
    I mention those just because they are also cheap and compact, and 9mm and .223 seems like a more all-purpose round. The Sub-2000 I thought would be neat if you already carry say a glock 19, since they share magazines, so you have a backup as well as something with a little more power (on account of the barrel length) and accuracy for long range (shouldered and bigger site radius of the rifle).

    This is an amazing gun, I have owned several of them from Armalite to Charter Arms to Henry Repeating Arms. However, the Henry 2017 version parts are heavy and the stock is much slimmer and though that isn't an issue, it WILL NOT float. It will sink like a large stone. I absolutely still love mine but again, it will not float. I will keep my 2017 version, but will get an other late 90's or early 2000's versions Or older versions from Armalite and Charter Arms. Great video and keep up the great work.

    I wouldn't take the ar7 serious, it's too highpointish.
    A Chiapa lil badger for a light foldable rifle and your sidearm seems to be a better choice.
    Kinda hard for one gun to pull off food procurement, defense, being light with high capacity and no magazine to fail.
    Ruger LCR in 22lr or 22mag with a 4"or 6"bl and a pair of speed loaders would be pretty close to " the perfect one gun", If they made a camp gun version with a10rd cylinder that would be AWSOME !!

    I disagree, this weapon is unreliable and hard to clean. Build a lightweight ar-15 and add a cmmg .22lr adaptor kit. If you want something lighter get a ruger mark 3 pistol. Added bonus is some models can be suppressed which would be more useful when trying to hunt game. But still a decent weapon, quite accurate. I had one for some item but don't recommend them.

    • @Godspeed_Survival
      @Godspeed_Survival 4 года назад

      Reverend Grunge As a Private Pilot carrying firearms can be a little tricky but where I live you can usually carry at least a pistol in a smaller aircraft. From what I understand military pilots (nutnfancy knows way more) will carry a pistol and a carbine of their choice room allowing. The only reason to carry a rifle for emergencies in an aircraft in the United States with you is for hunting small game if you crash and are gonna be down for maybe a week so generally gonna be more of bush pilots or Cross Country trips going over wilderness. But in general most will take a small .22 rifle like this.

      Having one in the shower would have changed the movie “Psycho” into a whole different Hitchcock flick!

    If they made this in .22wmr (even if bolt action with a mag) they'd sell a trillion of them.
