      That's usually the case.... if it's just going to sit in the safe. But when it gets taken out in the real world it may not be possible or practical.

    Thanks for this. I just got my Henry a couple of weeks ago. I got my two mags and then I ordered 2 more so I could drill one before I messed anything up. I sometimes shoot 5 groups (The RSO suggested I load 5s so I'm not fighting with the magazine, you can always reload it, duh.) with my son so not only did I drill your "8 Full" hole ( I admit one or two weren't *exactly* on point but you can see the brass anyway) but I also drilled a "5 Rounds" (You know, 5, 10, 15, 20 etc) hole that's just about 1/4 inch below the bottom of the square stamp hole on the left of the mag. It's odd that I had a double scratch on the magazine in that exact spot after using them 5 or 10 times from something. It came from inside the receiver obviously, but I can't tell what made that exact mark but it fit the "5" hole practically on the nose. THANKS again, for the tip.

    You may have a burr that can cause failure in feeding

  • @iPhoneeditor
    @iPhoneeditor 4 года назад +11

    Fully load the mags every time and count your rounds as you fire. If you don't use all the rounds in a magazine and have a moment clear the gun and simply reload it to 8. This also means you won't be walking around with a live round in the chamber. Introducing more holes allows debris and water to get inside easier. I clicked on this out of curiosity but I don't believe this is a good idea.

    Take the magazines apart. You may got some burr that may interfere with the feeding, get a small file and remove them. And if you drill the hole further up the body and a slightly bigger hole, then you could se if there is 7 or 8. You see the top of the follower and bottom of there is 7 rounds. If it is 8, you see the top of the 8 and bottom of the 7th, do one more for 5 and 6, then you are home.

    Great idea. I want to make a simple tool to compress the spring/follower and then have a small hole so that I can insert a pin to retain them. I feel it would be easier to load the magazine and prevent damage to cheap rounds due to the force required to load them.

    I tried the mod. The drill bit left a bur on the inside which hung the spring. After bending the tab at the bottom and bending the bottom metal up out of the way the spring came out which allowed me to file off the bur. Pushing the plastic thing-a-gig and spring back in. I inserted a small screw driver in the hole at the side bottom to hold the spring while I rebent both metals tabs back in place.

  • @wirelessguyny3787
    @wirelessguyny3787 2 года назад

    Just a quick FYI from my reading across the web. This mod does seem useful for seeing the rounds but if you experience jams with your CA AR7 and Henry magazine...
    The Henry magazines are NOT the same as the charter Arms versions although they look 99% similar. The AR7 does not have a feed ramp and relies on the magazine itself for the trajectory the round takes when being charged into the barrel. If you have a new henry magazine and experience issues with loading round 2-8 you can try to remove and bend the vertical metal guide rod just slightly down to keep the round from going too far northward above the barrel hole and jamming.

  • @jamesmarkov9570
    @jamesmarkov9570 6 лет назад

    Don’t official Henry magazines have a wire follower on the outside of the magazine?

    • @BackPackHack
      @BackPackHack  6 лет назад

      Not on the outside. I think Henry added a piece of stiff wire at the top of the mag to help keep the rounds in line and feed into the chamber better than the Charter Arms version of the AR-7.

    Is there any way to modify the stock to carry more than 2 magazines?

    • @BackPackHack
      @BackPackHack  6 лет назад +3

      Henry modified the original design to allow a 3rd mag to be carried in the stock attached to the receiver. But that's all you'll get in the stock. There are straps available to carry more mags on the outside of the stock, but of course they won't be water-resistant there.

    • @paulcurrie7828
      @paulcurrie7828 4 года назад +1

      The stock has lots of unused space inside....if you find a 1” rubber push cap (similiar to a grommet but with no hole) you can drill a 1” hole in the stock and carry a lot of loose rounds in that void.....loose float capability though if you are okay with loose rounds

    • @BackPackHack
      @BackPackHack  Год назад +2

      I never said no one can count to 8.
      The entire idea is to be able to visually tell if a mag is full or not. Nothing more, nothing less. For instance... "Here, pal, use this mag.....: Regardless of whether you can count to 8 or 8 octillion, it's an easy way to see if the mag is full.
