    If dont release and hold the trigger down after firing will the hammer fail to catch on the secondary sear and instead ride the bolt back or cause a malfunction?

    • @DaveSmith-cp5kj
      @DaveSmith-cp5kj 4 года назад +1

      The front of the trigger is what drops the hammer. The hook on the trigger is called the disconnector. If the trigger is held back while the hammer is reciprocating then the disconnector is pushed forward enough to catch the hammer. This is what results in semi-automatic fire. Releasing the trigger drops the hammer from the disconnector but catches on the front of the trigger, making the gun ready to fire when the trigger is pulled again.

      @@DaveSmith-cp5kj ? Yes I already know this. What I'm saying is that the disconnector is part of the actual trigger instead of being it's own separate part like on most semi automatic rifles. So when the hammer catches on the disconnector, the whole trigger must swing forward instead of just the disconnector moving. So I imagine if you are holding the trigger down after you fire once, the bolt force backwards must overcome the force exerted by your finger to hold the trigger down since the bolt pushes the hammer down and the hammer pushes the trigger forward. Or am i mistaken and this is not a problem?

      @@a.t6066 It is called trigger slap. The trigger only has to cam forward slightly for the disconnector to catch. Your trigger finger isn't anywhere strong enough to stop the reciprocation of the bolt when the hammer is pinched between the two during cycling. On a 22lr this is not an issue because the force on your finger is minor, but on some sloppily built guns like the AK, or M11 (closed bolt conversions), trigger slap can be very painful. This is why Masterpiece has the little rubber tubing over the trigger, which IMO is a poor fix when the solution lies in the disconnector profile since MP M11 has an independently pivoting disconnector.

      @@a.t6066 …no you are brilliant! I have one of these the Henry one and in teaching my wife to shoot I noticed that the only time there was a stovepipe or misfeed, she held the trigger. I probably have too. Good question.

    say does this gun use blackpowder (gunpowder) or smokeless powder?

    • @DaveSmith-cp5kj
      @DaveSmith-cp5kj 4 года назад +1

      22LR, which is currently made with smokeless. 22lr however used to and still could be made with black powder. But there is little reason unless democrats attempt to restrict smokeless powder or factory ammunition.

      If you are in the US this is surprising. It used to be a very popular rifle but I guess the 10/22 and marlin 22 overtook it. Its a cool gun because everything can be stored in the stock and it floats in water.
