I"m a white guy and I say this as sincerely as I can. I've been to a black pentecostal church before and this demonstration is freaking spot-on as to what it was like. I don't care if you are religious or not, every single white person needs to experience BLACK PRAISE at least once in their life. I'll never forget it.

I was in Ghana for Christmas 20 years ago. There was no tree or gifts exchanged but you spent the day in church rejoicing then gathered for a feast. I met over 200 relatives at that dinner. The love and joy expressed at our visit was extraordinary and the church service was amazing, rejoicing and singing to the lord on the day of his birth. My mother left Ghana in the 50's, it has become the only country so far in Africa that welcomes the descendents of slaves... no visa required. In three years you can become a citizen. Opportunity abounds and I couldn't be prouder.

What happened in these churches (not sure if it was the goal),
is that your defenses were broken down so “the light” could enter in.
    (Like Belushi.)
It’s hard not to internally respond to that incredibly blistering tempo, that call and response , and the hardcore repetition of it all.
    It’s mesmerizing!
    So simple. Everybody gets it.
The leader says something and the whole room answers back.
Over and over. Same simple lines.
By the time it’s over, you’re not the same as you walked in.
A wonderful gift God gave to those who call upon the name of Christ.
    It got us through!
    Additionally….
All black music, Jazz and Blues predominantly, comes from this.
I was overwhelmed in the theater when I saw it.
    James Brown Chaka Khan …
    This scene was bananas !

    "Have you seeeen the light?"
"Yes! Yes! Jesus H. Tap-dancing Christ! I have seeeen THE LIGHT!!!"
I went to a very conservative religious boarding school when I was a kid. We had Church services everyday and three on a Sunday! We were allowed to bring in one VHS movie once a month and everyone had to sit down and watch it. When it was my turn I brought in this movie. It was the clean version (taped off the tv) with all the 'mf's' edited out. Once it started the teacher on duty clearly had a problem with it being appropriate for 8 - 13 year old boys, but couldn't really speak up because the film was about saving an orphanage run by a Nun and was about two men on 'a mission from God'.😂 Some of those kids were so excited by the end car chase that they were screaming and shouting and some were even riding their chairs with excitement as they cheered on Jake and Elwood. There was almost a riot! I like to think I broadened a few minds that day and planted a few seeds. An anti-authority classic. Still my all time favorite movie.
