If you're wondering why the teams are called Blu and Red, there's a lore reason behind it. To simply put it, there are two brothers, Redmon and Blutarch Mann, that are fighting over a useless piece of gravel land left over by their father stated in his will. Their feud started in the 1800s, with both of them recruiting mercenaries to fight for them over the land. However, the fights still ended up as inconclusive and a draw, so their feud lasted well into the early 1900s (when the game Team Fortress Classic took place) and into the late 1900s (Team Fortress 2's timeline). A common fan theory regarding the mercenaries looking the same is that they don't ACTUALLY look the same, it's just for the sake of gameplay. Storywise, they're just men of similar builds who have the same occupation, but they're not the same person. At one point in the comics, the two CEOs of RED and BLU are both being escorted by men wearing the Engineer's uniform, but are of slightly different heights- so while "Dell Conagher" is the basic model used for all Engineers, they're all their own people who just have the same job.

Goad you reacted to this, this fanmade short is fantastic! Btw Heavy still is smart but he’s depicted to NOT know how to play chess, that was an illegal move at 7:12 and Medic’s patience just wears off at 17:17
Hey theres still some Tf2 official shorts you can still react to! Mann Vs Machine trailer, Mann Vs Machine the sound of medicine, and finally Jungle Inferno.
I already commented this on the Meet The Team video on a reply, but Emesis Blue is a really good horror SFM and the Saxy award SFMs so like Lil' Guardian Pyro and the others, but there is also The Mann Vs Machine trailer, The Sound of Medicine Trailer, and Jungle Inferno which are the last remaining official SFMs overall there is thousands of content, but the ones I stated are very good in my opinion.
This is the only TF2 SFM animation that not only has a banger soundtrack and great animation, but also didn't even need to have dialog to be a great fanmade film.
3:24 I dont think they've ever explained how both sides of Team RED and BLU have the same 9 mercs on each side, even in the comics. What I *do* know is: 1) The RED Team is depicted to be the canon team for the TF2 mercs (although it is sometimes inconsistent in my eyes i.e: In one of the TF2 Updates that's tied to the official comics (The WAR! Update), the RED Demoman and BLU Soldier became best friends after going to a Projectile Weapons Expo together. It is believed that they still are to this day, only kept under wraps to keep their jobs as mercs) 2) The BLU Team could possibly consist of different mercs with the same codenames as RED, using the same weapons, have similar purposes, etc. Chances are, Valve didnt want to model or create new characters if they're all going to be the same regardless. (Keep in mind, this one is just a theory of mine and its not confirmed) Oh yeah and did you know that RED and BLU (aside from being the team colours) are actually acronyms for the team names? RED stands for "Reliable Excavation Demolision" And BLU stands for "Builders League United".
Re: there being no voice acting in this, it was a stylistic choice on the part of the animation creators to have it be more or less entirely silent. Valve actually reached out to them and offered to connect them with the VAs, but McVee turned them down in favor of his own vision. There's actually a trailer from maybe about a year before the full animation dropped, which features Markiplier as the Medic's VA during the train uber scene. It's crazy to rewatch that as you can see just how much progress was made between then and the final product.
If you want to see actual gameplay there is a amazing youtuber that made a series called "how it FEELS to play" where he describes the character and shows fun gameplay and just a lot of amazing clips for example "how it FEELS to play Spy" though the last character is still in the works which is medic
3:25 I have a theory that, in the lore it's stated that these rivals (keeping it spoiler-free for when you will do the comics) hired 9 mercenaries each to fight eachother, but I think they hired THE SAME GUYS. So I think, canonically, they are like "Ok, us five in defense as RED the rest of you as the attackers BLU, now go", mostly because in the comics we never see confirmed deaths from the protagonists nor them facing a double, and also the fact that knowledge that should come from a BLU Scout comes from a RED Scout and similar stuff happens. The shorts completly ignores this for gameplay sake, but this theory is also supported by the fact that we don't see the SAME EXACT events between the animations and shorts. Example, the "Meet the Team" are simple interviews in the comics, but the animated versions are more cinematical and has some discrepancies that makes me think that the world is the same, the events are the same but there is slightier diffrent actions + the presence of clones.
i myself started getting into tf2 recently, so seeing these videos is so fun! love experiencing it for the first time with other ppl, as i had a feeling everybody already knows everything except for me lmao thanks for this vids, i love them❤
its important to understand Heavy and Medic's disagreement here, and even how medic tossed away heavys hand when he put it on his shoulder. these two are a pair, attached at the hip, theyre very close, some even speculate romantically. to see the two of them disagree like this and for medic to jump in with the assist at the last second is very impactful to a seasoned TF2 fan.
Holy shit you already watched it. This was my first idea to recommend you watch. Was going to say it was a super awesome fan made and valve endorsed project.
I'd say good preparation to watching other fan content would be to first watch the rest of Valve's official SFM game trailers, "Mann Vs. Machine", "Mann. Vs. Machine - The sound of Medicine", and "Jungle Inferno" to wrap things off. Of course, playing the game helps a ton with the finer context. Also there's the dubbed TF2 comics playlist "TF2 Comics in Chronological Ordee" that explain a ton of the lore and backstory of the game, from the hilarious to the seriousness of a drama, but insane all the time. Following those, the frequent recommendation is to watch the "How it Feels..." series by LazyPurple, though it helps to know how the game itself plays. But i'd also really recommend his first video since coming back, "TF2 is a timeless Masterpiece" is such a great love letter and opener to his "how it feels to play" series. Other great SFM TF2 videos that are a great starting point are a bunch of the saxxy winners or runner-ups, like "Turbulence [Saxxy Awards 2015 Best Overall]", "Leak! [SAXXY Best Extended 2018 Winner!]", "Lil' Guardian Pyro [Saxxy Best Overall Winner]", "Mountaineering Mercenaries [Saxxy Awards 2017 - Comedy]", "Timeless Thief (Saxxy Awards 2014, Best Short WINNER)", "Animation vs. Animator (Saxxy 2014 - Winner of Best Overall)"... there's so many quality short videos. Other great longer-form videos include the Winglet's Fedora Chronicles animations, especially "The Bolted Behemoth [SFM]", "Burning Through Space [SFM] "Live and Let Spy [SFM]", "Burning Through Space 2 [SFM] (my favorite one), and "The Red, the Blu, and the Ugly (2022 Edit) [SFM]". Also his 2 "Overwatch vs. TF2" videos are great, especially if you know game material from both. If you're looking into the crazy, zanier side of things that isn't POOTIS: ENGAGE, there's no shortage of weird madness than with the stupefying weirdness that RUclips Gmod Animators Eltorro64Rus and STBlackST create. Eltorro has created many individual wacky animation videos, while STBlackST has drummed up an incredible epic saga titled "Unusual Troubles" rivalling that of the MCU movies and the JoJo series, best to watch in order starting from "Everyday Routine". Exploring the more neighborly side of TF2, theres the "Team Neighborhood" series of videos hosted on GreatDictator's youtube channel, with 4 main Episodes and 1 chronicle episode, each with the comedy and zanyness of Saturday morning cartoons. And finally, for my comment, not recommended much but still incredibly fantastic, if you want to react to a really well-made TF2 song entirely animated in SFM with brilliant lyrics, there's youtuner TheStupendium with his specially animated music video, ",THE MOST FASHIONABLE FACTION | Animated Team Fortress 2 Song [ft. HARRY101UK]".
So a fun thing about Valve and its Source engine games, years back when the question of copyright and the logistics of free use were just coming into the scene on RUclips, they issued a public statement that essentially said "Go nuts." They gave people free reign to use game assets for animations, side projects, and other media projects including music, voice lines, you name it. It spawned no shortage of short films and joke media using the likes of Gmod back in the day.))
Remember when the train was still being prepared, Pyro's car was right behind Heavy's car...Scout found the ordinance in Heavy's car right *after* finding the car filled with rubber duckies. Guess who outfitted the duckie car (appropriately enough for the character)? KingdomAce: "At that point, I'd say all hope is lost." @13:05 - If there was going to be any dialogue at all, I think the most appropriate one would be at this point, with the Scout saying "Oh, crap!" It is, after all, an already-existing audio asset from the game itself. At the very least, his expression implies that this was the exact thought that ran through his head. @14:00 - Guess where we see Heavy doing this move in a different, later video? Hint: TF2 vs. Overwatch, part 2. @16:15 - Heavy demonstrates that he's proficient in the Martial Art of Jujutsu. Alternately defined as either 1- Involuntary yoga, & 2- The gentle Art of folding clothes while someone is still wearing them. BLU Spy had the losing hand in this game...He folded. They even left off this video with a cliff-hanger...Particularly for Sniper. It's always the little details that get to me in these TF2 videos, either official or fan-made.
Its never actually explained why there are multiple members of each team, I think its mostly just "because video game" However, in the comics at least the later ones, it was more implied that the team, who are mercenaries, have been hired by both red and blue team through the administrator, and tend to just swap around which side of the conflict they are on contract by contract. So sometimes Demoman is on blue team, sometimes on red team, and thanks to the medic, no injuries, or even death tends to be permanent. I recommend the Video: "Team Fabulous 2", by the Deeply loved and sadly departed Community creator Kitty0706
3:30 Two brothers by the names Blue Tark and Redman are in a life-time rivalry with each other, fighting over gravel. Both sides hire mercenaries to fight for them, though I don't think the clones are ever explained.
For someone who has allegedly little experience with the game and the community, out of all reaction channels you seem to have the most thorough understanding of the characters and the world Respect haha
It’s very long , but basically two brothers, REDmond and BLUtark, are fighting over land left to them by their father, thus forming the red and blu teams.
its called poker night at the inventory and includes all your favorite valve characters from heavy tf2 to glados being the dealer its a good game but idk if its available anymore.
It’s never explained as to why the same people that are on Red are also on Blu. In the comics Redmond Mann and Blutarch Mann (brothers) are given ownership of their father’s gravel pit but neither wants to share so they start a war over it, both of them gathering a group of nine mercenaries to fight for them.
woahhhhh it’s been years since Ive seen this, but thinking abt it the cod ww 2 campaign had a train scene very similar to the one at 14:35 , I wonder if it was inspired off of this
There still is Mann vs Machine and Mann vs Machine - The sound of Medicine clips made by Valve for then PvE mode. With Soldier is a Human fanmade sfm for dessert ~
The running theory I have is that the respawn system reads punch cards. These cards for the mercs have been copied and stolen a bunch, allowing cloned mercs. While the Mann brothers found a way to save money, the individual clones started getting disheartened about ‘who’s the original’ and the like. So hats happened, so each clone can find their individual style and feel like an original. No more frets over who’s who!
I’m pretty sure the reason why they are wearing different colors is because they are mercenaries hired by brothers and their names are blutarch and redmon I’m pretty sure and they are fighting each other
Apparently in the lore half of the mercenaries are illiterate and heavy has a PhD in Russian literature engineer has 11 PhDs medic lost his PhD and sniper is from the lost city of new Zealand pyro is a successful CEO of a company and scout misspelled sex bomb soldier is lead poisoned spy has the biggest library I've seen and demoman is a crippling alcoholic so much that he gets poisoned by water so I think scout soldier and demoman are likely illiterate but who is the last one idk.
You *need* to watch Emesis Blue, but be warned, if you want to understand the whole thing, you may need to watch their two prior projects first, which are "Spy's disguise" and I believe it is called "Emesis Diazepam" or something like that.
Hmm, I'd kinda hate to delay emesis blue by another day or two. I wonder if I should just put it all in one video. But the movie is already nearly 2 hours long. Another 30 min+ on top, is a bit of a stretch for viewers. But I guess most know they're in for a long ride when they click on the video.
@@KingdomAce It just improves what is already great on its own, but it can be enjoyed on its own, that's how I first watched Emesis Blue after all, but it left you wondering about somethings when you watch it that way.
thing is, although it's fanmade, it is actually canon because it was made for a major update and this gamemode can be played ingame. also the phd thing for heavy isn't actually canon, it was in a game not made by valve.
you could also watch overwatch vs team fortress 2, it does have 2 parts. the thing i like about ow v tf2 is its not one sided like "tf2 better" or "ow better" the jokes are mostly gameplay and community jokes but im sure you will enjoy it
the red and blu thing in-universe is explained by the other team just having a member that does the same job (so the red scout and blu scout dont look alike in-universe but only share their "profession", and only one of them is important) the "canon" characters are one of each class, pretty sure half of them is on one team and the other is on the other also, the joke with the chess is that heavy can't think of his first move, not that he's good. in this sfm heavy is dumb, even though canonically he has a PhD in russian literature, because this isn't canon, it's only a fan project endorsed by valve
So about Heavy being smarter than you'd think, there's a Russian military gun safety saying; "boolet is dumb, only goes where you point." So when Heavy says he has yet to meet one that can outsmart Boolet, he's not saying guns beat brains. He's saying he's surrounded by morons.
Yea there are characters that is suppose to be dumb and silly in the game but when it comes to lore it’s just them being serious about it It’s kinda ominous whenever a funny game has a serious lore
it's a shame valve chose to strip the community update this was promoting released the weapons an update early, and the map afterwards making what actually came out really bare
One of the next official videos would be Jungle Inferno sponsored trademarked and copyrighted by Saxton Hale's fist. Also, unless i'm mistaken, the Engineer may not be aware of the Heavy's PHDs in Russian Literature and his intelligence. In TF2 the Engineer has a voiceline saying "You're dumb as a box of rocks". If he found out though, i think he and Heavy would be good friends despite their contrast in muscle over tech. After all, the Engineer befrended Pyro in the comics, and treated him as what he truly is: child-like and innocent-minded. And Pyro is the hardest to understand.
Heavy has only _one_ degree in Russian Literature. I have no idea where people could've gotten the idea that he has multiple degrees from. Also, Engineer has 11 Hard Science PhDs. _Eleven._
I do believe there is only one type of each mercenary and they’re constantly switching teams depending on who pays said mercenary more I could very well be wrong
It’s very much implied that the people of the blue team just look very similar to the red team and are not the same people although to me I feel like some of the blue team might be relatives of the red team

Will react to them on stream today!!
What I *do* know is:
1) The RED Team is depicted to be the canon team for the TF2 mercs (although it is sometimes inconsistent in my eyes
i.e: In one of the TF2 Updates that's tied to the official comics (The WAR! Update), the RED Demoman and BLU Soldier became best friends after going to a Projectile Weapons Expo together. It is believed that they still are to this day, only kept under wraps to keep their jobs as mercs)
2) The BLU Team could possibly consist of different mercs with the same codenames as RED, using the same weapons, have similar purposes, etc. Chances are, Valve didnt want to model or create new characters if they're all going to be the same regardless. (Keep in mind, this one is just a theory of mine and its not confirmed)
Oh yeah and did you know that RED and BLU (aside from being the team colours) are actually acronyms for the team names?
RED stands for "Reliable Excavation Demolision"
And BLU stands for "Builders League United".
17:30 If I recall correctly, one of the maps in TF2 has or at least had an easter egg related to doves carrying the nuke far away in the background
i myself started getting into tf2 recently, so seeing these videos is so fun! love experiencing it for the first time with other ppl, as i had a feeling everybody already knows everything except for me lmao
thanks for this vids, i love them❤
its important to understand Heavy and Medic's disagreement here, and even how medic tossed away heavys hand when he put it on his shoulder. these two are a pair, attached at the hip, theyre very close, some even speculate romantically. to see the two of them disagree like this and for medic to jump in with the assist at the last second is very impactful to a seasoned TF2 fan.
Love your reactions dude
duuude 4 minutes ago?! i just finished watching the expiration date vid! i found your channel recently and love all the content :) keep it up
Same lol
Holy shit you already watched it. This was my first idea to recommend you watch. Was going to say it was a super awesome fan made and valve endorsed project.
The red vs blue is discussed in the comic series. There was someone that made a video with voice overs on youtube.
I just watched the expiration date video and new one came out almost instantly :)
I got you, Riverbell! I hope you enjoy!
You should do a live stream where your playing tf2 and maybe invite your fans to play with you to help you out in tf2 that would be really cool tbh
"The music during this has been great", said the damn SECOND the best music comes in to confirm his statement.
Its never actually explained why there are multiple members of each team, I think its mostly just "because video game"
However, in the comics at least the later ones, it was more implied that the team, who are mercenaries, have been hired by both red and blue team through the administrator, and tend to just swap around which side of the conflict they are on contract by contract. So sometimes Demoman is on blue team, sometimes on red team, and thanks to the medic, no injuries, or even death tends to be permanent.
I recommend the Video: "Team Fabulous 2", by the Deeply loved and sadly departed Community creator Kitty0706
It's a community update.
Added few maps, ne w crates, new weapons, new cosmetics.
And everyone loved it and myself i love this update.
Why Valve needed to fu**** up this update by taking parts of It and useing it in their own updates.
@@Someone_s_nick2 It's getting rarer nowadays, crates are expensive and keys.
3:30
Two brothers by the names Blue Tark and Redman are in a life-time rivalry with each other, fighting over gravel. Both sides hire mercenaries to fight for them, though I don't think the clones are ever explained.
They are not clones they are split up or fighting different teams
For someone who has allegedly little experience with the game and the community, out of all reaction channels you seem to have the most thorough understanding of the characters and the world
Respect haha
It helps that I've had hundreds of comments helping me out each video so its made me be able to grasp things a bit easier 😭🙏🏾
TF2 has one of the gretest OST ever... in a game where only main menu music plays.
It’s very long , but basically two brothers, REDmond and BLUtark, are fighting over land left to them by their father, thus forming the red and blu teams.
To this day, I'm still convinced they're using the glass shatter physic dor that breaking building.
engineer also has 11 phds and heavy has a phd in russian literature, which is said in some other steam game i forgot is name but is canon
its called poker night at the inventory and includes all your favorite valve characters from heavy tf2 to glados being the dealer its a good game but idk if its available anymore.
Another suggestion: Soundsmiths videos, like his “a manns guide” “hat/misc/weapon stereotypes” or his “how to trolldier” series’s.
It’s never explained as to why the same people that are on Red are also on Blu. In the comics Redmond Mann and Blutarch Mann (brothers) are given ownership of their father’s gravel pit but neither wants to share so they start a war over it, both of them gathering a group of nine mercenaries to fight for them.
ngl would be also interesting to see you play the game too!
6:20 yea its confirmed in the comics
This animation IS official, it was made for the coming update. It was just made by the community
"How many gates" ah I remember the old crate animations
woahhhhh it’s been years since Ive seen this, but thinking abt it the cod ww 2 campaign had a train scene very similar to the one at 14:35 , I wonder if it was inspired off of this
There still is Mann vs Machine and Mann vs Machine - The sound of Medicine clips made by Valve for then PvE mode.
TF2 lore is BONKERS. Spy being Scout's dad is just the tip of the crazy iceberg.
2nd lie about heavy:people say he is fat but infact he is literally muscle man, even his name, heavy is a short for heavy weapons guy
I definitely recommend Fawful's Minion videos in TF2, his wordplay is great
I’m pretty sure the reason why they are wearing different colors is because they are mercenaries hired by brothers and their names are blutarch and redmon I’m pretty sure and they are fighting each other
Funny thing
You can actually see those pigeons carrying a bomb in game
Half of tf2 lore is “it makes sense because it’s a video game”
The game doesn’t take itself as seriously as many would lead you to believe
Mann vs Machine and Jungle inferno these are some more official animations
red and blue are both entire company’s and they just hate each other pretty much
There are two companies blu and red which are fighting over who gets a gravel mine so they hire the mercenaries to fight to get the pit.
Apparently in the lore half of the mercenaries are illiterate and heavy has a PhD in Russian literature engineer has 11 PhDs medic lost his PhD and sniper is from the lost city of new Zealand pyro is a successful CEO of a company and scout misspelled sex bomb soldier is lead poisoned spy has the biggest library I've seen and demoman is a crippling alcoholic so much that he gets poisoned by water so I think scout soldier and demoman are likely illiterate but who is the last one idk.
dude, there's also a TF2 vs Overwatch sfm
You *need* to watch Emesis Blue, but be warned, if you want to understand the whole thing, you may need to watch their two prior projects first, which are "Spy's disguise" and I believe it is called "Emesis Diazepam" or something like that.
Hmm thanks for the tip, I hadn't heard anyone else say it was necessary.
Yea, spy's disguise is better to watch before Emesis blue
Hmm, I'd kinda hate to delay emesis blue by another day or two. I wonder if I should just put it all in one video. But the movie is already nearly 2 hours long. Another 30 min+ on top, is a bit of a stretch for viewers. But I guess most know they're in for a long ride when they click on the video.
@@KingdomAce It just improves what is already great on its own, but it can be enjoyed on its own, that's how I first watched Emesis Blue after all, but it left you wondering about somethings when you watch it that way.
@@KingdomAce Putting it all in one video would be a good idea
I’m pretty sure in lore the Blu team are just clones of Red Team
thing is, although it's fanmade, it is actually canon because it was made for a major update and this gamemode can be played ingame. also the phd thing for heavy isn't actually canon, it was in a game not made by valve.
This man has summoned an entire fandom
Here is a suggestion: ElTorro64rus and his Gmod animations (it’s amazing)
you could also watch overwatch vs team fortress 2, it does have 2 parts. the thing i like about ow v tf2 is its not one sided like "tf2 better" or "ow better" the jokes are mostly gameplay and community jokes but im sure you will enjoy it
oh boy, EMESIS BLUE will sure be a good movie he might end up watching
Oh, I DID ruclips.net/video/oAgoar1kqqc/видео.html
@@KingdomAce well then, thanks for the link
Heavy has one phd in russian literature and he is a russian from the soviet union during the cold war.
You should watch emesis blue it is the best looking and highest quality sfm
Recorded it today and it'll be up tomorrow! Especially since i will not sleep tonight!
Next time, watch "Emesis Blue". It is an awesome TF2 movie..
"Man this looks official"
Thats because it is if you believe it or not
the red and blu thing in-universe is explained by the other team just having a member that does the same job (so the red scout and blu scout dont look alike in-universe but only share their "profession", and only one of them is important)
the "canon" characters are one of each class, pretty sure half of them is on one team and the other is on the other
also, the joke with the chess is that heavy can't think of his first move, not that he's good. in this sfm heavy is dumb, even though canonically he has a PhD in russian literature, because this isn't canon, it's only a fan project endorsed by valve
So about Heavy being smarter than you'd think, there's a Russian military gun safety saying; "boolet is dumb, only goes where you point."
So when Heavy says he has yet to meet one that can outsmart Boolet, he's not saying guns beat brains.
He's saying he's surrounded by morons.
The TF2 characters always respwan when they die in the game
From TF2 videos I also recommend series called TF2: Spy Psychology from Jontohil2.
Nice reaction. I recommend reviewing official stuff first before approaching dessert)
Yea there are characters that is suppose to be dumb and silly in the game but when it comes to lore it’s just them being serious about it
It’s kinda ominous whenever a funny game has a serious lore
You’re another fun fact, if no one is told you that solider is dating, heavy sister 😂 (comics)
it's a shame valve chose to strip the community update this was promoting
released the weapons an update early, and the map afterwards making what actually came out really bare
it the comics red is the team you see now and blue is tf1 team from there old models
wait until this man sees emesis blue
Oh I DEFINITELY did 😅 ruclips.net/video/oAgoar1kqqc/видео.html
Please watch mann vs machine & jungle inferno, they are official too
One of the next official videos would be Jungle Inferno sponsored trademarked and copyrighted by Saxton Hale's fist.
Heavy has 1 PhD in russian language, engineer however has 11 PhDs.
Heavy has only _one_ degree in Russian Literature. I have no idea where people could've gotten the idea that he has multiple degrees from.
Also, Engineer has 11 Hard Science PhDs. _Eleven._
heavy has a phd in russian literature and is likely among the top 4 smartest of the team. engineer has like 13
BONUS DUCKS!
I do believe there is only one type of each mercenary and they’re constantly switching teams depending on who pays said mercenary more
I could very well be wrong
By the way the end of the line video was made by a ex pixar employee
It’s very much implied that the people of the blue team just look very similar to the red team and are not the same people although to me I feel like some of the blue team might be relatives of the red team
