Toy Photography - Photographing Action Figures in Action

- Jared Middleton, who goes by the name of SirDork730 on instagram, spends hours, painstakingly putting together, action figures toys, real world environments and small firework special effects, to create some amazing action photographs.
Jared, who’s 26 and lives in New York, started photographing action figure toys, purely as a hobby in 2013, and in his own words, his original efforts were horrible and looked like complete garbage, he simply placed action figure toys in poses, like they were shooting guns at each other.
But over time, his skills & experience from trial & error, started creating some amazing results.
Photo Gear He Uses
“I use a Canon EOS Rebel with a 18-55mm lens. I don’t use any flash, but I use flashlights and natural lighting. I keep my shutter speed as fast as possible to capture the explosions. I bring a couple different tripods for filming as well as the photographing. That’s about it!”
Thanks for watching.

Hey Wonder World, thanks again! So happy to be a part of this 🙏🏻
No problem Jared, happy to do the story, and thanks for getting me everything I needed for the story.

He brings the imagination to life to many of us 80s kids who played with transformers, g.i. joes, he-man, thundercats, etc etc. Awesome awesome stuff
I was born in 02 but I too played with transformers and g.i. Joe toys
And 00s kids too :)
It’s funny because he’s a 90’s kid.
my brothers used to do this as kids in the 1960s. I still have some of their black and white photos recreating scenes from WWII. They look surprisingly real.
Wow
wow can u post somewhere so curious abot this!
@@StereoChimps same. I wanna see the photos
Please do post them! I am sure you will get so many viewers on your channel!
Can you show them somewhere?
Really cool photos. I didn't even know this kind of photographer exists. Wow...
There’s a massive community of us on Instagram. Depends what you want to see toy pictures of and everyone has their own style and way of doing it. I personally do mostly Star Wars but there’s a load of others. (“Spooksome” on IG if you’re interested)

@@harrycarmichael9406 it’s something I want to get into. It’s different from anything I’ve done, probably using Lego as it’s cheapish and readily available.
@@colinstock325 there’s no reason why not to give it a shot! I started with three figures and now it’s a proper hobby. You just need to see what works for you when it comes to what you shoot. Lego is a good one because lots of people are interested but then you need to figure out how to go about it. It’s really great and you get better results with practice obviously. I’d recommend it!

Jared's work proves that when you have passion and determination, you can unleash the true artist inside all of us. His work is truly amazing. I am a fan of his work now.
This is brilliant. The use of practical effects and real-world objects looks 10,000x better than anything you'd get in CGI. The simple "back to basics" approach hearkens back to what made films in the 80s so charming. Love the work here. Thanks for the video!
This (along with stop motion) is what I always dreamed of doing with my toys when I was little.
You should watch the movie PARANORMAN and CORALINE etc. They make the most amazing stop motion movies, by filming all real world stuff!

And my award for the Most Adorkable Legend goes to... Jared Middleton! Literally had a big, goofy smile on my face from beginnning to end of this video! Thank you for showcasing this amazing artist.
Incredible talent. My brother and I would use fake Halloween blood and soak little bits of paper towel to put on our G.I. Joes so it looked like gunshot wounds or large leg or arm injuries. This brings back great memories. Thank you so very much and best of luck to you in all your future endeavors 🤙🏼

Have nothing but respect for anyone who start out with constant disappointment but push through improving along the way until they master what they set out to do in the beginning....👍
I'm happy with my action figures just sitting on a shelf for me to enjoy. The most action they get is when one falls over or on the floor.Besides I consider them as works of movable art, plus some are expensive and I want them to last.
"Dooope!"
Thought of this as a kid.
Finally someone who followed through with the idea.
I got lost in my imagination that I completely forgot about it myself. Might have to look into this (again?) myself now as an Adult.
Fantastic photo's,takes me back to my star wars figures many years ago...in a galaxy far far away....😀
Such an inspirational video. He's got some real talent there, making great little works of art.
Thank you so much!!
I love Channel like this channel that aren't afraid to post other people to let them know that there's different content out there. I love he created a new type of Photography that didn't involve people and just involved action figure and I liked that he didn't want Instagram because it's a very hard these days to find famous people who are creating everyday on Ig. Ig is full of fake photos and no real effort no creativity so to see somebody doing all that you know is just amazing. I subbed to both his RUclips and this channel on 1/9/2021

Beautiful imagenes, you are a professional

He makes those photagraphs look real with those firework effects👍👍😃😃
I just imagne an 8 year old saying “but my mum want buy explosions”
We were 12, about 49 years ago, when we learnt how to use bangers and fireworks to blow up Airfix model toys.
We never had cameras... phones.... or anything to record the fun with. We escaped the clutches of the local police and the occasional annoyed neighbour to have a few years of making and destroying toys and rockets. Most impressive was a 1/72nd scale Hercules (C-130) that we filled with firework rockets in the cargo bay and got it 20’ into the air and 100’ down the road from a ramp made of plywood supported by house bricks.....
Halcyon days 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I can imagine the shutter speeds used in this video. This is definitely a macro lens. Awesome work🔥🔥🔥
could you explain more on the shutter speed and lenses ? thinking of buying a camera for this hobby and for other photography like street and portrait too along with doing some cinematography
That is cool. This photographer embraced trial & error as mentioned. Most people forget that mistakes are lessons as well if you are willing to learn.
That dude is really cool... great personality and skill... the way he takes his pics os how all us dude used to play with our toys... the noises we made 😆 🤣 the sound effects we made with the imagination we all had... to me makes looking at his work all worth it.
