Thanks for this post😊 Just finished my g35 coupe and couldn't have done it without you. 7.5 hours, half a pint of blood, 3 new curse words but satisfaction of doing it myself, PRICELESS!
6 years later, still useful. Been an avid watcher of the tech channel and this channel when you post now days. Just bought a 370 with a blown diff bushing and found out you did a tutorial on it....small world lol
+Barnacules Nerdgasm I had to make the same home-made system to press in my wheel bearings on my Cordia. Work good. Last long time! The only thing I had to take to the machine shop to have done was my ball joints and bushings. I don't have a press yet. :(
Thanks for the detailed video. It gave me enough courage to tackle the project myself. Only difference was I used a large bushing removal tool that I found on eBay ( 27 piece kit was about $100 - which I'll probably sell). Easily removed and installed the replacement bushing on the subframe. Keep up the great Z videos.
It is very fun to watch whatever you say or do, your tech stuff and all. I like to do all my own suspension work, not only do I save a ton of money, I get such a great feeling when I drift my Xtreme in traffic with no effort, and no leaning, very flat.Ongoing Mods... I did do a lifetime alignment, so after I change any major parts and need an alignment, I make an appointment to get it checked free.Dave.
Thanks for the vid - watching you do it gave me the courage to finally decide to cut the OEM bushing out instead of buying a 1-time use tool. Took a cumulative 12 hours over a couple of weeks (in and around the work schedule), but well worth it. I went with Z1 urethanes originally (more about that below), and ended up changing the diff fluid out as well while it was dropped. Some notes: - If you have get access to it, use a transmission jack - makes it one-person easy and safe. - I believe someone mentioned it, but using a multi-oscillating tool greatly eases up the tear away of the old bushing. Use a thin cutter rotated 90 deg and radially cut the front and rear faces of the bushing - then you can just tap the inner collar out. Don't underestimate the OEM bushing - it lives up to it's reputation. - The larger Z1 rear bushing is a BEAR to put in! It has to go in perfectly straight, and although the manual doesn't mention it, use of lube is a must! I ended up cutting out the Z1 bushing as it got stuck (it's slightly larger in diameter than the Whitelines). I ended up putting in a Nolathane (similar/same design as the Whitelines), and that was significantly easier. Front and rear bushings took 45 mins to install, total. - I'm a stickler for following torque requirements in the FSM, so I needed to purchase an extra long 17mm box end wrench to free up the drive shaft bolts, and smaller 3/8" drive 17mm and 14mm torque wrench adapters to torque down the drive shaft and half shaft flange bolts. Again, great vid! You made it look easy, but gave ample warnings for all the trip points you'll encounter when doing this job; THANKS!
You know I never thought I would be into car stuff but this is actually fairly similar to the watercooling videos once you get down to it, I can definitively see the appeal.
ill be doing this soon, decided to go and weld my diff and since ill be drifting might aswell do bushings, love the tips man looks fun to do i apreciate this video!
This was a pretty good vid! 👍👍 Im really glad that I have air tools and will use an air hammer to drive out the main bushing when I decide to to do mine.😌
Must be nice having a newer car from Cali. Being in the midwest, I almost never get through a repair without encountering parts that are rust-welded together.
you're very smart for a non-certified mechanic. most people wouldn't be able to figure out how to get that bushing out. working on cars is 50% confidence 50% knowledge. just jump in and do it. nice work and thx for doing it right and not hacking on a 370z.
A corded oscillating tool, might be a good handy dandy toy, for you Jay. As convenient as battery is, the power and no going dead mid use, corded is just best on those. Get a variety of bits and blades, and lots of shop diy home improvement, pc modding, uses. Replaces a recip, disk grinder, paint scraper, chizling, wood metal plastic, masonry, tile grout, all in one tool. By all means review it, seek one out for review, or how ever you chose to acquire one. They definitely come in so handy, more controlled than a recip saw, and less blade wagging out of sight to cut something by accident. Great for small delicate work, or big stuff. I wont recommend which one, or what bits, most are interchangeable between brands, or adapters to use. You are a smart feller, and can come up with better than anyone could tell you to go get. Keep up the great content.
***** U CAN BLAME UNCLE YERRY FOR THAT, don't know why they voted that bone head back unto office, he screwed that state the first go around, guess the libs like to bend over, sorry Jay!
lol the cars on jackstands (looks at toolbox which appears to be holding car up in place of jackstand) "OH you cant see that trust me theres a jackstand back there" I laughed pretty damn hard, right as he said it i was sitting there wondering wtf lol jay i love your pc channel hardcore and when you started doing this car channel i was skeptical only because im an ass and also a hardcore car lover but i'm loving your new channel man KEEP UP THE AWESOME CONTENT!!!!! ps i could see the gap in between the toolbox and car theres a jackstand back there but still it was hilarious
LOL, I'm watching the vid and enjoying it. Then Jay fast forwards it ( about 4:50 mark ) and the music in the background makes me think that Little Jay must be home and he's listening to Radio Disney. Great job though Jay!
Try doing this on a car in Michigan...... required:wrenches jack jack stands Drillsawzallhammeroxy/acetylene torchreplacements for nearly all the bolts you removeabout a week
Re the poly bush, there is actually different ratings for how "strong/hard" the polyurethane is. For instance most rally cars use approx 120 shore rating, where the standard one in a Polo is a 35/50 depending which mounting it is. Warning, do not use a high shore rating on your engine mounts, it causes a ton of vibration in your car, just /2c.
Was there an increase in noise with these over the oem ones? I can't decide on the whiteline or z1 urethane bushings. My car barely has 30k miles and I got the "tear of death".
Can you tell a difference between the whitelines and (I'm guessing) polyurethanes you had in the F body? I'm considering whitelines for my build and would appreciate your thoughts since you're a grip + aero guy like myself. Love the channel!
You mentioned wheel hopping due to differential bushings. Is this when the whole car rattles when a wheel spins? I have the same issue only when it's wet and/or cold tyres. Never managed to figure out why...
What size socket did you find to work with knocking out the ear tab bushings? Starting mine in the morning. Live in the rust belt so the bolts are sitting in penetrating fluid tonight.
Forget the gym, this job will give you a nice work out. Its interesting that your wearing gloves because that's I used to do back in the day although people though that was stupid. Computers and cars do go together !
Nice Z Jay. What mods have you put on her? So far I've done Fast Intentions long tube headers, Fast Intentions exhaust with18" resonators, with the carbon fiber muffler option.
Are you thinking of buying the twin turbo kit for this car? It adds like 200 hp but its also super expensive lol. Just wanted to hear your thoughts on what you plan to do to your car in the future. Also another question, were you considering to get a hyundai genesis coupe 3.8? Or was it never a thought comparison? Love your videos on this channel and your main channel!
My mechanic installed my rear z1 poly diff bushing but it pokes out towards the rear of car by about 3-4mm, not flat to the surface of the frame. Is this going to be an issue? Thx
Hey mate , hope you see this comment and reply. My mechanic said the diff may make a whining noise after the whiteline kit installed . Did you have this issue ? Is loud ? Tell me about it if you got it please . I tried to get a video of what it sound like but I cannot find anything . Thanks in advance
crazy mike hey mike I got a g35 with HICAS system (rear active steering) and upon putting key switch to ON position the one before the car actually starts it rattles why ? I got a video on my channel help
@@g35tho11 that's weird. Have you maybe tapped a curb with the rear end? That system only moves the back tires maybe a degree in either direction when you're going over 40 mph. Sounds like its trying to initialize on startup but that noise sounds like something is damaged inside the unit.
You know what's handy AF for that drilling job you did, one of those 90 degree angle chucks for drills. They are cheap and just chuck in like a bit, gears transfer revoluciousity on the 90 to the second chuck and you're laughin'! You don't need them often but when you do they save a lot of pain. That's my unsolicited 'uh actually if you did it this way' advice for the day haha. Great video man, you took on a decent bit of work here but better than giving those robbing bastards your cash and having them butcher your car probably anyway.
Thanks for this post😊

That was a very clever way to press in the bushing!
+Barnacules Nerdgasm I agree. Work smarter not harder.
Need a 30ton press for mine.. or in this case.. a bigger hammer.
+Barnacules Nerdgasm I had to make the same home-made system to press in my wheel bearings on my Cordia. Work good. Last long time! The only thing I had to take to the machine shop to have done was my ball joints and bushings. I don't have a press yet. :(
that was satisfying as hell watching it get pulled in
I learned a lot from this guy this is why I just subscribed
Thanks for the awesome video! Did the install yesterday and went absolutely super smoothly with all your tips and steps! Major thumbs up!
That was more informative and fun to watch than 99% of the aftermarket/oem car companies own install videos. Keep it up!
lets all take a moment to congratulate Jay on having the Jackstands up past their lowest level.... so proud

Watched this video when it came out, and it ended up coming in really handy recently! This actually applies to both 370z AND 350z! Thanks a ton Jay!
Great video!! Doing the bushings on my 370 this week!!
Thank you so much for making this video! Can't tell you how helpful this was. Greatly appreciated

Do you keep not top and metal washer. ? And do I reuse the rubber washer as well ?
Cool video. Heard that you were helping TJ find a 350Z. That's awesome!
You know I never thought I would be into car stuff but this is actually fairly similar to the watercooling videos once you get down to it, I can definitively see the appeal.
i have been waiting for someone to do a good tutorial on this for 2 years! My g35 is going to love this mod
Sooo glad i got a lift years ago! Miss my s13 and s14, but it was fun times :)

Best video on this so far. Oim guessing when you saw through the ring around the old bushing if you Nick the subframe it's not the end of the world
Great video I'm planning on doing this to my Genesis coupe soon. Thanks
Don't even own a z but watched it anyway
This was a pretty good vid! 👍👍
Im really glad that I have air tools and will use an air hammer to drive out the main bushing when I decide to to do mine.😌
Makes it look so easy, though it's hell of a job to get those bushings off. Great work, you certainly know your tools.
Thanks for the video! I did mine a couple of days ago. Took me and my buddy roughly 6 hours.
I'm so happy you posted this
Dame mate you're great with computers and cars! 👌
Must be nice having a newer car from Cali. Being in the midwest, I almost never get through a repair without encountering parts that are rust-welded together.
Big feels 😂
Awesome video man! I am ready to replace those bushings on my 2008 Infiniti g35. Greatly appreciate it!
Please keep making these videos.. Love them
The fast forward voice just cracks me up!

Wow Jay, that fast speaking bit was hilarious
Thanks.. super helpful! I'm about to do this job on my 2002 350gt-8 6MT conversion. should be fun lol
Always super rewarding to do your own car work. Only time I don't is when I just don't have the equipment to do the job
Loved the video Jay! keep'em coming :)
I love the colorful language, makes the whole video more enjoyable lol
Thanks for the vid. Mine is shot and I'm about to tackle this. Did you know about the bushing removal tool used for this job?
Liking the channel Jay! Keep it going.
Feels good to do it yourself. Especially with what you learn about your car. How does it drive now that you have done that?
Excellent video 🙏🏻

How in the hell is the underside of your car so clean? :D
+Barnacules Nerdgasm no water in this state
because in calfornia there's no rain so no mud or rust

Great video man
i love how radioactive is in background at end copywrite much lol jk awesome vid jay as always
I didn't know Alvin was moon lighting as a shade tree mechanic. Seriously though nice job on the bushing tool.
did you reused the metal washers that go on the vertical bushings? I didn't since I noticed my bolt threads would be shorter

Great job man and what you said is 💯% right. You know now better thé car and how it has been made.👍
Great video!!!!
Do you have chatter because of the lightweight fly wheel you installed on neutral or just lower rpm?
Nice video !
It felt so good when you were fast forwarding through the pulling process at like 1000x speed. Wish it was the actual speed.
Thank you for making this video. God bless you.

What size socket did you use to hammer out the bushings located in the differential?
It helped me a lot! Tks,

great video Jay! I learned something new! ;)

Hey man what kind of saw did you use to cut the metal ring of the subframe bushing
man your funny. love the fastword. And sense of accomplishment.
You mentioned wheel hopping due to differential bushings. Is this when the whole car rattles when a wheel spins? I have the same issue only when it's wet and/or cold tyres. Never managed to figure out why...
also you know where the axles bolt onto the differential mine has a little bit of play is that normal or is my diff going out
How many miles were on the car at the time of the Clutch, slave cylinder, etc. Also the mileage at the time of the differential bushing change?
Where did you buy the parts do you have the link
What size socket did you find to work with knocking out the ear tab bushings? Starting mine in the morning. Live in the rust belt so the bolts are sitting in penetrating fluid tonight.
cool stuff there
U DA'BOSS JAY! Looking fit too Jay, keep up the Fantastic Work Brother!!! Race-on!
does the Nismo version hold the same problem too?
What are the repercussions for not repairing or replacing the subframe bushing?

What exhaust is that?
I worked on Infinitis for 6 years. This is giving me PTSD.

So, adding a diff brace before this thing blows, worth it?
thanks for sharing i learned a lot !

You should also do the Z1 Motorsports Differential Cover.
No follow up to on how she drives with the new bushings??
Why do you have a differential fluid line? Does it actually have a oil cooler somewhere? On my STI it's a sealed system.
Hi
+Barnacules Nerdgasm Breather hose
if he's doesn't at least Nissan was smart enough to add an option for it rather than buying a after market part that allowed for an oil cooler
+Barnacules Nerdgasm It should have a SMALL Blow Off valve .Looks like a small Plastic CAP or simular
+Barnacules Nerdgasm You have breather port at the top of your differential.
How do i find the torque specs?
How much did you Save ?
