So far our hinges are staying steady, but we understand it's a big concern! We'll report back as we break our Flips in more. 🍿
Thank you Aish for the fantastic video. I always appreciate the very in-depth coverage and respect how long it takes to put this together! 🙏🙏
Thank you I really appreciate it! I love making videos like this but I need to get on your level 😆

Retroid has improved, but they still need to improve their designs. There's no reason the speakers should face away from you.
100%. With that much empty space on the face of the unit, it's just plain stupid to have the speakers facing away from the player. Bad design, plain and simple.
Yes they have and I hope we continue to see improvement, really wish the speaker was in the front.
-Aish
However, owning one here for a month now does not really seems to be a problem. The speaker is good , loud and clear and you don’t need to face you to have good design. Like speakers in our car is also placed at the hind instead of facing us.
@@francischungfs Respectfully, car speakers are a horrible comp for handheld console speakers. First, most cars have speakers in the front (usually on the doors) and the back, so that the entire car is filled with sound. The rear speakers handle most of the bass and the front the treble. The speakers in the Retroid can be the loudest small form speakers on the market, when they face away from the player, the sound IS less clear - whether you personally are able to recognize it or not. That's just the way that soundwaves work, dude. It's science, plain and simple. If you don't recognize it, turn the thing upside down the next time you're playing it and you'll hear a clear difference unless you just have very bad ears. When there is so much empty space on the face of that unit, there is no good reason for the speakers to be on the bottom.
Retroid needs to jump on the snapdragon 8gen 2 wagon and make make a 6inch screen. If they did all that I'd buy in a heartbeat but they're doing the budget thing.
Did you have to use a dremel for the heatsink? I just took mine apart to have a feel for it before I do it since I don't have one
You mentioned removing the screw improves airflow and may improve performance on marginal games. Any formal tests?
imagine *if they put 2nd screen in that empty area* , it will be perfect emulation for DS or 3DS, and it still useful for other emulator for reading walkthrough or at least show information about fps, CPU temperature, ram capacity, storage capacity, etc.
With all that space it would have been nice if they just made the buttons larger in general too.
It's not practical or cost effective, and they said as much. Imagine what you want, it won't be happening anytime soon.
@@wordsmith451 obviously added 2nd screen makes the device more expensive, but i'm gonna pay 20-50 dollars more if they have "2 screens edition of Retroid Pocket Flip"
@@ErnestJay88 yea, you might, but how many potential customers might they lose who aren't interested in DS/3DS and an extra $20-50 would make the device price range outside of what they would pay? As a company, they have to think about this positive/negative. they may lose 500 customers to gain 50.
@@ErnestJay88 you misunderstand - it would cost far more than that and would require far more power. If you're willing to pay $300+ for a crappy DS clone that doesn't work very well, have at it. It's not happening - they said they couldn't do it. So imagine and dream what you want.
I think the hinge breaking is from people opening it from the right side instead of the middle
You might be on to something.
Thanks man! In the end, I liked my rp3+ more. As much as I like watermelon, I couldn't get into it. I'm a dome switch guy and also the dual sliders aren't a great set up imo either. I gave it the college try... Oh well
Yeah I do wish the buttons had a little less travel, thanks for watching the video!
I purchased the Flip earlier this week. I haven't received it yet, so l cannot give any thoughts on it. I primarily want to use this device to back up my PS1 and PSP games that are on my PSTV. I saw that Vita emulation is also available. Have you tried running Vita games on the Flip? I have around 14 Vita games that were ports of PS2 games, and I'd rather play them.
The flip is awesome for both PSP and PS, no matter what game you throw at it from those 2 systems it'll run with no issues.
I haven't tried ps Vita emulation yet since it's still fairly new and comparability wasn't great last time I checked, but I haven't looked into it in a while.
@retrohandhelds there was an update last week. I already read that three of the games I own will run with no issues, those being "Gravity Rush" and the "Hotline Miami" gamws, but I'm more interested in the PS2 ports.
Any chance for a fan mod tutorial? No one else has done it and that’s a significant difference!
Well I think I could do a video explaining what I did, for a tutorial I would have to get a new flip 😆
@@retrohandhelds I mean that probably works. XP
For the size and the power of this device, it’s special. The buttons should have been better.
The buttons from the rp3 would have been great.
What's the name of the last game seems interesting?
The hinge of my retroid pocket flip just broke after 1 month
Is anyone else using Reset Collection as a launcher like I am on my RP3+ Metal and my RP Flip? I find it bloody brilliant tbh folks.
I've used it and I'm going back to it 😁
@@retrohandhelds That's a good lad. Brilliant choice to do so as Reset had really matured.
I would love a legit dual screen retro handheld for DS / 3DS emulation
Duo
Buy a 3DS.
One day I really hope we get one.
You think in maybe three years we could very well see flawless PS2 and GameCube emulation from newer devices with better specs?
Oh definitely, and I'd say less than 3 years!
I bought one but try to add one of the SD cards from one of my other systems I have 30 other anbernic, etc.‘s, but the SD card did not work. So now I bought a pre-configured card on Etsy. It’s been two weeks still waiting for it. The problem with these if you don’t know how to add your own games, it’s a headache, why I usually stick to the others. I want to charge and play. I don’t want to spend all day trying to do games on here. If the card does not arrive soon what does not work like planned I will be selling mine. I have the watermelon one. He’s a nice if you have the time and know how but otherwise there a headache.
It's probably just the SD card format. It's really easy just add a new card to the flip and let it format it, then plug both your anbernic SD card and the one you formatted on the flip and drag and drop your game folders from the Anbernic SD card to the flip card .

…please metal cased retroid flip…i will buy it now…and please separate metal case for those who want to upgrade…i got the retroid pocket 3 plus and absolutely ceartin it is going to be a classic…for so many reasons…flip is a bold first attempt in its genre…it just need a little nudge…in the same way rp3 got nudged into rp3 plus…but because of other reasons…
i just play DC PSP N64 and below so fan can ever be off. No issues
I prefer the RP3+ easily. It has a home button, no useless bottom section maybe this might change later but I have yet to see button replacement options. I was able to make an ultimate retro handheld with the RP3+. I replaced the switches, put in PS buttons, etc. And I can’t replicate that yet on the flip.
They got me with the Sport Red limited edition, otherwise I would never have bought it 😂
I mean yeah the RP3/RP3+ is better IMO as it’s been through several refinements. Although I will pick a Flip 2 up if it’s a big enough upgrade.
If u want to spend 165$ on a broken hinge and a few other issues then it's the one
To be fair I haven't had any issues with my hinge.
Pico8?

@@retrohandhelds ty
The grip that I received is terrible.
That's really unfortunate, what's wrong with it ?
@Retro Handhelds It slips off easily doesn't stay in place etc. Rp3/3+ grip was amazing not sure what happened.
This is the only Retroid I don’t like. RIP to those broken hinges.
It's not everyone's cup of tea and that's ok, not sure how big of a problem the hinge thing really is.
-Aish
I hate it. Everyone's so happy with it and I bought into the hype and ordered one. It's the most uncomfortable handheld in my entire collection. Ruined my week when I got it and tried it out after a long wait. Threw it in the drawer and can't even stand the sight of it. I feel like I'm missing out on some sort of collective hallucination...
I also got an RG405, and aside from the screen and triggers I think it's vastly superior. Better build quality, buttons, sticks, and pocketability.
I mention the ergonomic issues with it but overall I've enjoyed it.
@@retrohandhelds I'm glad you like it, and RGC also mentioned ergonomics, but for me it truly is bad enough to render it unplayable. Usually my experience matches the general consensus pretty well, so it was a big surprise for me when I tried it out. I tried to like it but it just wasn't happening :(
@@wordsmith451agreed. The screen in the rg405m is crap compared to this and the RP3+, but it looks alright when playing GBA with CRT shaders on. And the RG405M feels pretty good in my hands.
I also got caught in the hype and bought the Sport Red edition since it was limited. But I vastly prefer my RP3+.
The horrible hinge design and cheap plastic makes it a hard sell...
Agreed. That and the big empty space in the middle are a complete turn off 😂
The plastic is actually really nice. The hinge is alright as well.
The space might be ugly, but the button placements are just perfect in my hands 😩
The plastic actually feels really good and to be fair I haven't had any issues with my hinge.
