In the video it shows "sold-out", but that's normal before the orders go live (not actually sold-out, and I don't expect them to anytime soon).

Odin 2 because Retroid doesn't fill my taste as neither a Gaming and especially Retro Gaming device.
I just picked up the RP2S when it was on sale for $99 and I don’t regret the purchase for a second. The Pocket 4 pro is basically the Pocket 3 form factor with the welcome change of the side buttons being relocated to the face, the addition of the sticks, triggers, buttons, and d-pad from the 2S, and enough of a power upgrade to play +95% of all PS2 and GameCube games. For me the larger screen on the Pocket 4 is irrelevant due to it being a 16:9 ratio and the vast majority of retro games being 4:3. So basically I would be paying twice what I did for the Pocket 2S to have a wider bodied Pocket 2S that plays more PS2 and GameCube games. Not worth twice as much $$$ to play the additional games for my wallet. That being said the 4 and 4 pro are both fantastic systems that pack really great power for the price along with a stellar system build. Not for me but another great job Retroid!!! I’m thinking my next purchase will eventually be dictated by how long it takes for the price of the hardware to drop over time and when they can start sourcing some cheap, larger 4:3 screens. Till then the Pocket 2S will keep me busy.
The 16 bit Euro version as I'm in the UK and that's what I remember my SNES console
Which one can play dreamcast ? Can a rp3+ do it ?
I have an OG RP2 - so it's been a few years since I bought a retro handheld. I opted for the RP4Pro, in black with the case and grip. Looking forward to all the upgrades from my RP2.
I just preorder the RP4 pro, this is going to be my first device like this. I don't know what to expect, but I'm happy.
What you think of it so far?
@waynejoyner432 it plays a ton of games but really haven't been playing it, got the odin 2 pro the same time. The rp4 pro fits more in the pocket tho.
Almost ordered a 3+ in Ice Blue a while back, glad i waited. Just ordered the 4Pro in that color.
I first discovered Retroid last summer and was so close to doing the same, but held off because I have no experience with retro handheld and the iffy GameCube and PS2 support. Gonna go for it now though.
I was sooo stuck between the watermelon and the ice blue. I settled for the ice blue because I have a watermelon flip and I wanted the blue when I got the RP3+ but didnt because of the rainbow buttons. So this time the RP4Pro in Blue!
Just ordered 4 pro 16 Bit! cannot wait...
Ordered my pro watermelon. Can't wait!
Definitely get the grip... for whatever handheld you get.
I snagged the Watermelon Pro and I'm so stoked!!! I normally also go for the Blue/Green colors, but that red pops. Also grabbed the grip and the case, cause I had to! 💚I made a mild snafu in my ordering process and they helped me out within an hour and a half, too! I'm really impressed.
BEST option
I don't even know what colour I got 😂
I was too indecisive so made my wife order and keep it a secret until it arrives
@@GradivusAres This is actually amazing!! Please follow-up and let us know!!
How'd you get help so fast? I make a mistake ordering as well but no response yet.
@andyredfearn3002 I just shot them an email response to the order message with a screenshot and description of what it is I meant to add, and they sent me an updated invoice and payment option. No stress, though. They won't be shipping for about a month anyway. They've got time to adjust it. Just send them an email response and screenshot, and I'll bet they get back to you quick! Keep in mind the time difference, give it a few days as it's Christmas weekend. ^_^ Good luck!
I ordered the Pro, with the 16-bit US color. Going from my Anbernic RG353P to this is going to be a slight upgrade. :)
Slight? Man it's gonna be night and day lol
Great video! Thabks
just bought the AYN Odin 2 Pro.. waiting on it now.. really excited to try it out.. the Retroid looks cool.. but my old eyes need a larger screen..
larger screen needs a larger body. Then this would have nothing over the odin 2
I just ordered the RP4 Pro in crystal. Maybe if I’m feeling bold I’ll try my hand at dying it atomic purple to match my other handhelds! Thanks for the idea!
FINALLY a video where someone's reviewing the RP4 and NOT the PRO version!
Edit: Comparison review does NOT contain footage of RP4 running the "difficult to emulate" titles on Game Cube or PS2. =,(
Ah, this isn't a review video. I'm just talking about your different options when purchasing. Thanks for watching!
Got pro model, will be awesome pocketable companion to my Odin 2 max
Did you get matching colors or try something different from your Odin 2? 😲
@@retrohandhelds I bought eu 16-bit. Would like to have same version of Odin 2, but its not exist so I just got clear blue one.
@@braineat its crazy you say that as soon as ayn releases the ''rainbow'' (aka the 16 bit eu)
Sorry I am new to handhelds, is the RP4pro a step up from my RP3+, will it play PS2 any better?
Thanks!
Do this with 4:3 ratio and I'm in! Same sticks, analogue triggers, all black. Thanks guys x
I like running the games in 3:2 so there's a very slight stretch but fills the screen slightly more... About halfway between 4:3 and 16:9.
Handsome man right here
Shoot! I wish you'd post this before it went live at exactly the time it went live I'm already frantically refreshing the website and waiting in line to order.
Yeah it was meant to be 30 minutes early, just took a while for YT to process the video unfortunately. 😅
I hope the Stubbs' nubs fit on the thumb stick of the RP4/RP4 Pro 🤞🏻
IN THE WORKS SIRRR
Odin 2 is the retroid pocket for me, in all seriousness thinking of getting a 2s for saturn and lower.
At 9:06 I didnt realize it was an option but I bought the crystal and really want a transparent purple like with the RP3+. Who would i talk to to have someone color it? I don't really want to do it myself and risk messing it up.
Do you guys think they will make a flip version of the 4 pro? I'm more confident with this form factor (probably less risky in pockets and bags).
Without a doubt they will release a flip version once sales start to slow down on the 4.
Ordered a Pro in watermelon. Added the ABXY button kit for the Super Famicom look.
Love that combo!
I got the Watermelon RP4 Pro, It looks hella beautiful
I'm new to hand helds and only own a Miyoo mini plus. I'm familiar with finding roms and onion os, created my own 256gb sd card collection. I want a horizontal handheld for an upgrade, I dont want to waste time and money on anbernic, powkiddy, and trimui. I dont know if i should get this RP4PRO or the older RP3+. What do you suggest? Thank you.
Check out some reviews of the Rp3+ and compare it's specs to the Rp4 Pro, or just wait for reviews of the Rp4 Pro after release. Are you fine with a device that can emulate every PSP game just fine and don't mind that it doesn't play most PS2 and Gamecube games very well? Go for the Rp3+. Don't mind spending an extra $65 or so to emulate all PS2 and GC games flawlessly? Go for the Rp4 Pro. All in all it's really dependant on what you're looking for in a device.
Again, I'd wait for reviews after release for absolute certainty if I were you.
Neat, still goin with the Odin 2 Max tho, i just find the bigger screen and grip more comfortable.
The retroid pocket 3+ i really cant play for long without the extra grip and thats with average sized hands. :(
Fair! That one can really do it all.
Kinda this is my issue currently. I have a 3+ but wish it was a little bigger.
Completely different price range you should have just got the base model odin 2 The upgraded versions aren't worth it at all at that price point you might as well just get a steam deck All you get is extra RAM in a little bit of more storage in the extra RAM doesn't really matter since you already have 8 gigabytes which is more than enough for any emulation and extra storage you're better off just getting an SD card
@@The_MEMEphis You dont get to decide what i should and shouldnt have. Youre not even my real mom! Have a downvote.
@@The_MEMEphis Okay so, my odin 2 max is here and its awesome, infact i went the extra mile and got a TPU shell, carrying bag and screen protector. Its a nice android platform next to my high-end gaming rig that runs circles around a dinky steam deck. Man feels good to have no worries about a budget when you have an education and a well paying job. So i dont need to project my insecurities upon people on the internet especially when nobody asked for my off-topic opinion or approval. I mean who does that am i right? Man what a loser that must be huh...
Whatcha gonna do now huh? are you gonna fight me? gonna break in and steal my stuff? are you crying? Thats right, i wont even bother editing my former comment, see how much i care about formalities! WHATCHA GONNA DO NOW HUH?!
PS: Send feet pics
D900 can run wind waker at 720p. D1100 just ensures the best possible experience.
The only thing that's keeping me from buying one right this second is trying to choose a color. I'm torn between crystal and black.
Hmm... Wouldnt it make sense if they have an option for the buttons with the XBox layout instead of the Nintendo layout?
I just bought an Analogue Pocket...
Do I really need this?...
Went with the pro just because I couldn’t find the 4 for 150 after taxes and shipping the 150 was 180 or more and the pro was under 220 with free shipping .
Will the rp4 with the grip on fit in the case? Or do you have to take it off before you put it in the case
Device with grip wont fit in the case.
Hi. Are you sure about the 8gb in mro needed for Switch emulation ? The switch itself has 4gb of ram.
Keep in mind you are emulating the system. You can do switch emulation on base- but if you want to run games more powerful than Celeste, then the plus is the way
Got the Pro in US 16 Bit with a grip!
Ayyyeee, good choice!
The Retroid Pocket 3S more like they did their justice with this one 🤣
Got the pro SNES one, hopefully I won't have any remorse getting this versus the Odin 2
They both have their upsides, the RP4 pro is smaller and easier to carry around
I'd say Retroids are very reliable and have excellent customer and community support. If you don't require intense Android gaming along with Switch Emulation. I think PS2 and Gamecube should be good with RP4 Pro.
However, if you're looking for higher end gaming and emulation. There's always the Odin 2!
I have my Steamdeck for more intensive stuff so I was thinking this would be good and more portable for lighter stuff. I have a 35xx too so I have a bit of a problem maybe with buying these things, but I love messing around with them. They're fun!
@@kevin-yb4fg Well, the RP4 Pro is a good portable option! pretty much anything from RP3+, 2S, 4 or 4 Pro should be just fine for you
Hey man, the RP4 will fit in your pocket so you're more likely to actually spend time with it.
Got the Pro in watermelon 🍉 with the black grip. It's gonna looks 🔥 🔥 🔥
Great choice!
Is the standard mode loud? You think you can play most games without turning on the fan? I have tinnitus, so this is quite problematic for me (the noise). Why about the fan wind, can you feel it in your fingers? I can get a RP4 pro quite easily and fast since i live in China, but its been days trying to decide if i buy the 3+ or 4 because of the fan. Thank you
I do a fan test in my review video, you can set the fan to quiet in performance mode. On quiet mode it's inaudible, you have to put the vent up against your eat to hear it. And no the fan doesn't produce any vibration even in the highest setting.

@@retrohandhelds Thank you so much 🙏
I can't wait for this! I've been playing on my 2+ almost everyday. I just want something pocketable that can play GameCube and PS2 with minimal fuss.
This seems like a great choice then!
I'll be buying it
Which one are you thinking about?
Those glasses 😍. Quit hoggin' all the handsome!
He can't help it!
-Aish
Let's have a Glasses review stream! ONLY glasses, wearing nothing else.
Still happy playing doom on retroid pocket 3+.
Yeah this is a good point, if your current handheld does what you want, then there is no reason to upgrade
Get the Retriod Pocket 4 pro! it's worth it.
Absofruitly!
Hey Stubbs, you mentioned you'd talk about what to put on the SD card while waiting. Could you expound on that? First time Retro Handheld owner (well, once it ships!) So I'd like to know what I need to get ready.
Ah I left some of that on the cutting room floor, doh! Thanks for pointing this out. You want to format your SD card to ExFat (if above 32gb) and load on your roms and bios files, you could even get artwork prepped if you want to get fancy. Maybe I should make a dedicated video for this topic 🤔
@retrohandhelds one thing I've done in the past is use an old android tablet I've had lying to format the SD card before hand. It even auto populates the android folders
As a visual learner, would appreciate the video! Thanks for all that you do!
@@benpregent Great idea!!
@@jethrotejano2013 Its a deal! I want to make a dedicated video about the RP2S still, so this might fit well with that.
Does this have hall sticks?
Yes it does
So the screen the most important to me, Ayaneo pocket air or RP4? Oled or Not....
Pocket Air wins for screen with that OLED!
i got the Retroid Pocket 3+ and i had to pay additional $35 import fee from DHL , and i also have the Odin 2 pro. so i don't think i will buy the 4 , just yet,,, probably wait for a bit to see if they come up a 4 PRO + ,, in a couple of months
That's the beauty of aliexpress. I've ordered tons of stuff there, never had to pay any taxes (usually not even shipping)
If I order from the US or something though they hit me every time...
Im confused , i just want to know whats the best of these that will let you play ps2 and wii games
RP4 Pro, or you dont mind the size/expense, the Odin 2.
What about trimui smart pro?
Um, they have hall sticks already. Why do they offer them as an option then?
Just for replacements
Retroid with With yearly releases. At this point just make the main mother board swappable. Only so many ways you can make a rectangle thats pocketable and has a decent battery.
Yeah its great if we could re-purpose our shells, this one is a bit thicker than the 3+
What I'm interested in seeing is the 1080p USB-C video out on the pro. I'm interested if you could hook it up to a USB-C dongle that had HDMI out, ethernet, and power delivery passthrough as a kind of "docked" mode. This would be my ideal scenario as then I can buy this for my kid to play on the go but also as a living room console to play retro games and stream from my gaming PC
Same! I vastly prefer playing on my TV. Handheld is cool at times, but if docked is decent I will definitely grab one.
What is the best, this or RG405M?
Both the 4 and 4 pro are going to be more powerful
then the 405m.
-Aish
original rp4 or pro? for 3ds and maybe if can run most games then pro i need heavy games to run like fn mc and heavy switch exclusives
If you want to play heavy switch games just buy a switch, these budget emulation handhelds aren’t quite there yet
@@joeylawrence3865 I have a switch and it sucks

Does this new pocket 4 come with free games upon purchase and how many? Or what.. kinda interested. I haven’t got any from this brand yet.. I just had an OLED switch.
No Retroid doesn't ship with any games.

neither, I'm getting Odin 2
If the green tinted screen can't be firmware fixed, neither.
Wait... why do they have different versions of android? 🤨
Different chipsets I guess
@@retrohandhelds they're both mediatek dimensity, 900 & 1100
Android versions require certain amount of system specs. Android 13 requires higher system specs than 11, and the Pro meets those specs, but the non-Pro does not.
Most of the video is talking about colour options and shipping methods if you looking for a deep dive into this device i recommend you look elsewhere
The video was never meant to be a deep dive or a review, and we never implied anything else. We don't make reviews without having the device.
This is just meant to help people decide on what to buy if they're unsure, that's why Stubbs was talking about colors and shipping.
-Aish
If you want to he future proof, get the pro! xD but even the normal one still powerful
I got lucky and got a metal editon RP3+ and looove it!… but i did immediately preordered the 4 Pro lol
I play modded minecraft on my 3+ and it constantly crashes from only having like 2gb of RAM available…. The added 4gb on the 4 Pro will make SUCH a difference!

Get an Odin2 and forget about this lol.
I don’t get why the mobile gaming scene haven’t moved to ultem for their handhelds like the EDC community its ultra light weight, see thru and almost as dense as aluminum. Not to mention high heat resistance. True it’s often a yellow/orange color but It would look good for a handheld
Мне кажется, ещё не все цвета показали
No performance test, wich kind of video is this?
Опять огромные чёрные рамки
Probably none of them. I just got a used Retroid 3+ and what's most limiting (for me) is the screen size, not the power of the CPU/GPU
Yup. I have a Powkiddy x55. It has a 5.5" screen. I like it but the next one I buy will have 6" or bigger. Anything under 5" is an absolute no go
The whole point of getting this is because you want something small obviously you shouldn't get it if you want a bigger device I just want something that's easier to put in my pocket so a small screen is a good thing
Odin lite think has bigger screen
You recommended it for emulates games of PS2 anda Game Cube?
Personally I'm just happy that Retroid Fanboys FINALLY have a Genuine Uninspired Brick that plays PS2 and below Emulation at Full Speed. Now these people can slowly fade away from the community and stop demanding that EVERY Handheld adhere to their shallow standards of gaming. Also for clarities sake I'm not talking about people who like Retroid products I'm talking about the section of People that worship Retroid. The Dedicated Anti-Fans of Anbernic and Powkiddy aka the Anberhaters. I'm sick of seeing them in EVERY Anbernic and Powkiddy showcase video I'm sick and tired of hearing they're hypocritical complaints in EVERY Forum, and Comment Section. Sorry for typing this in but yes let's all game our way and good riddance to people who want everything their way.
why can't we all get along huh
@@retrohandheldsI agree 100%, everyone FINALLY has their own piece of the Pizza. It's just some people in this community demand that EVERY slice of the Pizza have their toppings on it and it's not fair.
whatever you are on dude, you should lay it off asap
Well that's just a dumb question now isn't it? Considering they all sold out the same day they dropped for pre orders. 🙃🙃
It's not sold out.
Recorded footage before the pre order so shows a s sold out
They never sold out, they just had the page up. Pre order went up recently.
Hrm, won't sell out anytime I'd reckon
Powkiddy x28 is better than these
Neither.
First of all - and this is extremely important - this Switch/Steamdeck form factor is INCREDIBLY obnoxious. On top of that, the performance improvement over previous hardware is far too insufficient to justify such a large purchase.
The issue with handhelds right now is that they're caught in a large performance gap between console generations, but they want to keep crapping out new handhelds that are only slightly better, for much higher prices. Better hardware doesn't matter at all unless it means that I can play more of the games that I want to play, and that means getting up to an acceptable level with 6th generation consoles. These things are just to the point that they can handle gen 5 correctly. I'm not saying that they're doing something wrong, or not trying. I know that this performance gap is actually really difficult to cross, and it may be another decade or two before it's even reasonably possible for a proper handheld to run PS2 and GC games well (unless FPGA makes some speedy advances). I'm just saying I'm not going to spend double on a product that adds zero value for me, especially when it's this stupid "giant slab" form factor.
What form factor would you rather see?
@@shaunhughes2At the very least, a "handheld" should fit in the pocket of my jeans. The handhelds I use most are PSP-Go, DSi, and RG351P. These are all well sized and reasonably laid out. Normal PSP is probably the biggest thing I'd consider to actually be handheld. Most importantly, in addition to being able to pocket them easily, I don't feel as worried having them on me when I'm walking around downtown. Carrying around a giant like a Switch is begging to be robbed in my city. I play it a lot in the dock, though.
@@khatharrmalkavian3306 If the fabled 28XX sees the light of day, might be a good option for most pocketable
The PSP dimensions are 2.9x6.7x0.9
Retroid Pocket 4 is 3.2x7.2x0.5
Seems pretty close to me. What is that, about a quarter inch added on each side? The most appealing part to me is how thin it is; that makes pocketing it easier personally.
Now the other ones you mentioned are more in the 5 to 5.5 range in terms of width, but the Retroid is still thinner than all of them pretty much. But it’s all preference, especially when it comes to what you feel comfortable with in your pockets, so I totally get it. Maybe in a year they could shave that down more to the width of the Pocket2S but keep the power.
@@shaunhughes2 Oh, is it? It looked like it was another switch/sdeck sized thing. My mistake.
