- Jariko Denman was born in Washington DC and raised as a military brat. He enlisted in the US Army in 1997, embarking on a path that led him all over the world. After joining the prestigious 75th Ranger Regiment, he served for 15 years, with combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan on 15 different occasions. From the role of a Weapons Squad Leader to that of a Rifle Platoon Sergeant and a Ranger Company First Sergeant, Jariko amassed an impressive 54 months of combat experience as part of a Joint Special Operations Task Force. After retiring in 2017, he continued to contribute to the world in unique ways, advising on major motion pictures, national ad campaigns, and television series, while also lending his voice as a freelance journalist in conflict-ridden regions like Afghanistan and Ukraine. Currently, he enriches the team at Black Rifle Coffee as a Content Producer and calls Salt Lake City, Utah, his home.
Jenna Bakken is a combat veteran who earned her stripes on the battlefield of Afghanistan. As a female serving in a male-dominated MOS, her journey was one of extraordinary strength and resilience. Her experiences include being involved in a grueling 3.5-hour firefight and enduring multiple injuries while serving her country. Jenna's journey of recovery has been an inspiration to many, and her dedication to empowering others shines through as she uses her story to uplift and guide others facing their own trials.
Jariko and Jenna open up about their experiences as combat veterans, discussing the unique challenges they faced in the military, the intensity of their experiences on the frontlines, and the process of healing and recovery. The timeframe she got out, we saw a whole bunch of senior leaders that had been hiding in non-deployable units who thought the war was going to end so they came streaming out from under their rocks to get their deployments. I was on my 4th trip as a Captain (51months total). The BDE Cdr had one for nine months. BN Cdr was on his first. Both BN and BDE CSMs only had one twelve month each. They were all determined to "set the standard" or be "old school".....by kicking out SOOO many kids that had spent their entire careers at war. That was a big reason why my resignation went in on that trip.

From someone working in EMS: faecal vomit is horrendous. It's not like it's a beach holiday for the patient of course, but for the Ambulance crew the stench lingers for HOURS, or it seems to, even after a massive clean up effort with every chemical cleaner available.
I was cruisin’ until I heard talk about the gerbil, which brings me to a similar story/rumor/secondhand account from a hospital involving a local lonely tv personality, a gerbil, and an emergency room.

Command Sgt. Maj. Ken Wolf stated in Serial's Present for Duty (Episode 11) that there were no soldiers killed searching for PFC Bergdahl. His whole account is as straight forward as possible. I spoke with an Army Captain that saw and spoke with Bergdahl every day that he was in San Antonio. I wonder what would happen if Andy actually had a chance to speak with Bergdahl. I think it would be interesting to learn more about the letters Andy mentioned.

That 2010-2014 time frame was also bad for people just trying to get in.
I got completely screwed upon initially enlisting in 2013-14 by lying POS navy recruiters. I got unexpectedly discharged out of Navy bootcamp on processing day-4 with a “fraudulent enlistment” discharge for doing exactly what my recruiters told me to do. And I’m not even the only guy that they screwed over just at that one specific recruiting office during that one specific time and DEP enlistee group. Just that I know of, there was another SEAL candidate/hopeful from the same exact recruiting office that had also gotten unexpectedly discharged out of bootcamp just a couple months before I did.
So was that just one bad office of lying-snakes of recruiters, or was this an issue that was screwing guys over nationwide?

He told me that they had “lost some of my paperwork” and to “just say no about that part” while I was sitting across from him at his desk filling out the medical questionnaire. I just did what he said and never thought twice about it, thinking that if he was telling me to do that then it must not be a big deal.
I got screwed over on-paper in other ways during that enlistment process, too. Too many to unpack here, honestly.
Really left a horrible impression.
