      No problem! Yeah I wish I tested undervolting, truth is I only gave it a go for the first time a few days ago with the Aero 15x, I've got a video coming out next week showing the differences it made, and was wondering if I should do similar videos going forward, or just briefly mention the results in the full review video instead.

    • @nd3078
      @nd3078 6 лет назад +1

      Jarrod'sTech briefly mentioning undervolt results on laptop reviews for sure!. A hole video on undervolting a specific laptop would be nice for one with heat issues or just any laptop with a comunity that tends to undervolt it. Peace ;)

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  6 лет назад

      Thanks for letting me know! Yeah I just did a whole video for the Aero 15x as it had issues, I probably wouldn't bother undervolting in the review though unless I had thermal throttling, I guess it depends on the temps.

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  6 лет назад

      I got a bit better than that, at least while gaming which is less intensive than stress testing, with an artificial stress test yeah a little boost but still some throttling.

      Yeah fan noise isn't a problem for me at all with headphones so I don't really mind it too much myself, my only regret is I didn't try undervolting to see how it would improve the temps, I've got my first video on that coming next week so I'll look at including it in future reviews

      have u the bell enabled with all notification or only normal bell?

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  6 лет назад

      Yeah notifications are always a bit hit and miss, they seem to be experimenting with them from what I've seen/heard, even with the bell checked. I think from their perspective they want to limit the notifications to not spam people, as people then block all notifications from RUclips rather than just a specific creator which ends up worse for everyone. Still, I feel like if someone clicks the bell and says "I want to be notified!" then they should just always get all notifications, but what do I know 😛

    • @ross_rusher0243
      @ross_rusher0243 6 лет назад

      Not a laptop for me XD bit too pricey :( I do like the rgb keyboard as the amount of customisation is grea. 120hz panel lools top notch and cooling is a bit standard.

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  6 лет назад

      Yeah MSI keyboards look pretty nice, the plastic on the sides is clear so you can see the light easier than others, and the ones with individual key control can give you some pretty cool effects compared to others that just let you control set groups of keys.

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  6 лет назад +3

      Purely for gaming the 1070 even with older CPU will perform better than the 1060 with newer CPU, so depends how much gaming power you want. Realistically I think the 1060 is still a good choice for 1080p 60 FPS gaming at high settings in modern games, and even higher if you have a higher refresh rate panel in less demanding games like Overwatch. Also depends on what your work is and whether that would benefit from the extra CPU cores, for instance I do video rendering so the extra cores would help a lot and I'd take them over the better gaming performance that I don't really need.

      No problem! I wasn't checking brightness and contrast back when I made this video (probably did it in the newer 8th gen review though) but usually MSI panels seem to have good colour gamut but then look washed out due to low contrast ratio - I think that's generally with their lower models though, from what I recall the ge63/ge73 were ok

    Just a word of caution for anyone who wants to buy this laptop, i got the same couple of months back and its an amazing laptop, but there seems to be an issue with the keyboard back-lighting. As u know it has RGB back-lighting, after updating the steelseries software two of my keys dont have Green lighting anymore, as in the green led is dead (tested all possible methods to fix it, even contacting MSI...only option is to send it in for service). this seems to be an issue for many users for this laptop and a few other msi laptops.Bit of a bummer as i paid quite a lot, but i guess its not that big of a deal and u can live with it.

    Went to test this MSI GE63 Raider RGB 8RE (2018 model with i7 8750h) at a shop today (currys pc world uk) and although it did have that sticker with "3ms 120hz Gaming Display (optional)", when I checked it in Windows it was only 60hz and that was the only option available. No 120hz at all. Am I missing something? None of the sales guys at the shop had any clue about this either. What does the "optional" next to the 120hz display sticker on the laptop mean? Why have a sticker that says 120hz on the laptop when it actually works in 60hz? Are you supposed to change it somehow with some drivers (the one I tested already had GeForce drivers and everything installed)? The official MSI website also states this laptop comes with a 120hz. I also noticed reviews from people that bought it saying that is actually only 60hz. Please help, really want to buy it, but only if I can use it at 120hz!

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  6 лет назад +1

      I presume the optional means that it's available with different panels, it's pretty suspicious that 120Hz wasn't an option if it said that it was, I take it the drivers were installed? You could get the model of the panel with a program like HWInfo then google it to see what the specs are to check if it's actually a 60Hz panel or 120 though. It sounds like they just had a 60Hz option on display, but you can buy it with either a 120Hz or 60Hz panel. I've actually got the 8th gen model here and will be doing a review on it in the next few weeks, so will note what panel I have in mine in that video.

      What are you mostly going to be using the laptop for? If gaming I'd get the 1050Ti, that will make a larger difference in performance in most games than the 8750H in my opinion. If you're doing tasks that actually need more than 4 cores like video editing/rendering though then the 8750H/1050 would be a good choice. I've seen similar temperatures in many laptops recently because they make the fan speed at idle really low to keep it quiet. You could try increasing the fan speed if you think it's an issue, but realistically that should be fine, it's not particularly hot so can't really think of any issue if you're not overheating which wouldn't happen until high 90s

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  6 лет назад

      To be honest I don't personally have any experience with that software, however the requirements note that 4GB is required with 8GB recommended. Are you actually experiencing any issues with it with the current 8GB? Assuming that's just one stick you may get a little boost in some apps by adding a second 8GB stick in as you'll be running in dual channel, but generally if your laptop isn't reaching its current 8GB limit adding more will be negligible in improving the overall performance.

      Jarrod'sTech wow u replied so fast. Thanks so much. I have been binge watching laptop reviews but there are so many models with similar specs. Do brands in anyway affect the choice? I'm also curious whether the new models next year will have a huge generation gap? I'm kinda afraid that a new gpu will be introduced.

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  6 лет назад

      No problem! Yeah there are a fair few to choose from, better than not having much choice though I guess! It can a bit, sometimes. Personally I don't really care what brand it is, when I pick a laptop I base it off of the laptop itself, but that said some companies will support their product better than others in terms of service/warranty etc so that could be worth considering. There will always be something new just around the corner, we just got 8th gen CPUs so you'll be safe on the CPU side of things, but yeah current 10 series GPUs are about 2 years old now, at this point I'd probably at least wait until Computex next week to see if Nvidia have any news about new models, if not then who knows how long it will be til we see the new stuff, if you need a laptop now might as well just wait, if you can hold off it may be worth it but only because we're so late in the current generation. Just don't do what I did, I kept waiting for 3-4 years before building my new PC haha, in the end I was using 8 year old hardware to edit videos, wasn't going too well because I talked myself in to just keep waiting 😛

    Hello people, I need some help deciding on what laptop to get for myself. I’m going to 3D/2d animation school & going to be doing some VFX as well. I’ll be on the go quite a bit so building a computer is not an option for me. Preferably one that’s affordable, I was sold on the gigabyte until I looked at the price ($4,000 CDN) not in my wheel house. I have $1,200 of spending money (rest of my money is in my savings account) but I can save up for one if needed. Not exceeding $2,000 for a laptop tho. Any help on a specific laptop or what I need to be looking for while looking for a laptop for my specific uses, would be greatly appreciated!

      The Gigabyte Aero 15x I assume? Yeah that's a nice laptop. There's a slightly cheaper and smaller version, the Aero 14, although I haven't had a chance to look at it yet, and it's still fairly expensive anyway. For $1,200 or lower I'd probably look at the Dell 7577, some people have picked it up for $999 or less on sale. It's got a quad core 7700HQ CPU and Nvidia Max-Q 1060 which should be good for 3d accelerated applications. It's also got a thunderbolt port, allowing you to use an external GPU enclosure in the future if you need an upgrade, and the battery life is fairly good if you'll be moving it between classes etc. It's about to be replaced by the new G series laptops which will have up to 6 CPU cores, but realistically I think the 7700HQ is still a good option and will be pretty solid for a few years, up to you whether you want to wait, I think it's launching around now if not already, I should have one in a few weeks for review.

      Jarrod'sTech I appreciate the fast reply, I will definitely look into the Dell 7577. I’ll also be waiting for the video about the 6 cores tho, what type of processor would the 6 cores have? Cause I know the i7 quad core is quite fast at rendering compared to the i5 etc. thank you for your help!

      The i7-8750H seems to be the most common of the new 6 core CPUs, there's also the 8850H but I've only seen that in really high end models so far.

    Plz answer me , why laptops gameing dont come 4k screen with 120hz ,, Always just 4k screen with 60hz ,,,, or 1080 screen with 120hz why ?,,,,,,, i want 4k with 120hz plzz 🌷🌷🌷

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  6 лет назад

      The panel technology just isn't there yet, 4K 120Hz+ monitors are meant to be coming sometime in the next few months, but those monitors are rumored to be over $2000 or so, so it will probably still be a long time before we have that available in laptops. Additionally, no current gen graphics cards can really power 4K at that speed in games, giving it fairly niche uses.

      Jarrod'sTech ،، ok ,, but when i have laptop 4k , and when we change resolution from 4k to 1080 in the games , Will it rise Screen Speed from 60hz to 120hz ?,
      I think the screen frames come from the company and we cant change it ?

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  6 лет назад

      It will stay at 60Hz unfortunately, if you want 120Hz you'd have to get a 1440p/1080p panel.

  • @الطبيعةالخضراء-ع6ك

    Give me a tip Please 🌷🌷,,
    i have just 2 choices ،،،،
    laptop *(full hd)* (gtx 1080 120hz) ,,,
    or laptop *((4k))* (gtx1080 60hz) ,,
    I want buy at this time
    What's the best please

      I'd never personally buy a 4K laptop for the reasons mentioned in this video: ruclips.net/video/irhdqtVqtrM/видео.html many of the issues can be fixed by setting the resolution to 1080p, and in general 4K panels have better quality in terms of colour accuracy, but otherwise I don't think it's really worthwhile. The Nvidia 1080 at least has a good chance of powering a 4K panel in games though, so depends if you want higher resolution or smoother with higher refresh rate, I'd take smoother personally.

      Thanks for letting me know, I usually edit the file so it's a bit quieter, I may have forgotten to do it here. Just checked it, looks like I did lower it, it sits at around the same level as the peaks of my talking, I guess I could try lowering it a bit more, to be honest you're the first person to ever comment on the intro in over 4 million views 😛

      In the witcher 3, yes, actual time will vary depending on game and how much resources it needs. I do all my laptop testing on that game, and that's only a little below average, 1 hour is pretty normal. Basically you don't want to game on battery power, performance sucks and it doesn't last, it's a meme.

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  6 лет назад

      Compared to a laptop you mean? With the laptop you've got to pay more for battery, screen, keyboard, and everything build into a small space which takes R&D.

      Ah right, I guess pricing varies between regions too, though it could be cheaper for a reason! I'm about to compare the GE63 to other similarly specced models that cost more so we'll be able to see differences in performance and get an idea which is more worthwhile.
