Mostly due to him refusing to fire his DC as Mora argued to Colts GM and FO, that he wasnt responsible for the Colts defensive woes in 2001 and owing to his persistent refusal and stubbornness, they fired their DC and Mora.
Honestly, that ultimatum Colts gave to Mora to fire his DC or be fired himself has sort of struck me as way for Indy to convenient excuse to get rid of him and hire someone, like Dungy, who they (rightfully) realized could probably end up doing a far better, more successful job running the Colts and doing more in the post-season than Mora ever did. I think Jim Irsay and Bill Polian realized by end of 2001 season, Jim Mora had taken them as far as he was going to.

BTW shoutout to Dominic Rhodes. Filled in nicely as a rookie after Edge got hurt, and gained 1K+ yards rushing. Only time he crossed that barrier in his career, but at least he got a SB win a few years later once the Colts put it all together. He's one of only 7 players to come out of Midwestern State University, and thus far has had the best career. Not bad for a guy that went undrafted.

Manning and the colts had an unexpected down year. Partially due to Edgerrin James’ torn ACL early that season. However this matchup was still hyped up as both teams had lit up the scoreboard in 1999 and 2000. Two of the high flying acts of that time period.
Add in Peyton’s name value. Faulk facing his former team. Plenty of Star power.

Still remarkable to me that the Rams didn't win the SB that year. They were clearly the best team in the NFL all year long, and the talent gap was on display every week. Another notable game that comes to mind is the Rams thrashing the Dolphins 42-10. Dolphins had a great defense that year, but it didn't matter. If the Rams won Super Bowl 36, I wonder if they're still in St. Louis.

To me the 2001 Rams were the most complete version of themselves during the “greatest show on turf” era (99-01), even though 99 was the lone year they won the SB. I thought the 2000 Rams before Kurt Warner got injured, reached their absolute peak offensively but their defense was basically atrocious. 2001 was almost as dynamic in offense as the previous year, but their defense was clearly improved because of hiring Lovie Smith and acquiring Aeneas Williams.

Exactly, we miss the rams here in St Louis. Shame Kronke took over and moved them. After GSOT they were literally the worst team in football for over 10 years..but despite what the media says we all still supported the rams and went to games even though we had guys like Kellen Clemens as our QB lmao

You don’t like the new uniforms? I think their new LA Rams uniforms looks really good, I actually like em better than these darker blue and gold ones they had back then. It does suck St. Louis lost their team though. It’s always a bummer when a city completely loses a team to another city especially LA. Idk why LA needs to have both the rams and chargers, I know it’s a huge city but still

@@jeremyroberts8822 their new unis are alright but terrible compared to the 99 uniforms and the blue and gold too. Thing I hate mose about the new uniforms is how they cut the rams horn on the helmet

This sums up the Manning vs Brady debate pretty well. In that same year's Superbowl, BB and the Pats defence hold the rams to 17 points and beat them. Manning had no help on defence. The Patriots were a franchise, Manning was the franchise.

Is that a joke???? Manning puts up 17 points - and only 3 in the final 40 minutes of the game - with edgerrin James, Marvin Harrison, Pollard, Dilger, Rhodes, Tarik Glenn, Jeff Saturday, Ryan Diem, Adam Meadows, etc.
His longest completion this game was a pass behind the line of scrimmage that the WR took for 30 yards.
Peyton threw 23 interceptions that season - including that duck in this game - costing Indy 7 points.
In the 15 seasons in which they both played - Manning had a better defense than Brady in 7 of them. He just choked in the playoffs so much.

You look at the colts having manning, wayne & harrison they were dangerous. The colts ended up with Marshall faulk i believe. They need to get rid of the coach who didnt believe in getting to the playoffs. That sounds like something the coach of my team (Detroit Lions) would say, PLAAYOFFFS or did he say that as the Saints head coach????

Colts drafted Faulk and traded him to the rams
