- You're more than 3.6 km (12,000 ft) above the Earth. And there's no turning back now. But as you jump out of the plane, and see how beautiful the Earth looks below you, you start to think that this might not be so bad. Then you pull the cord to open your parachute, and all your worst fears come true. There's no parachute coming out, and now you're plummeting towards the ground at about 200 km/h (125 mph). You've only got about a minute before you hit the ground. Is there anything you can do to save yourself?

I recall reading about a US B-17 bomber aircrew member who survived a fall from his aircraft without a parachute. He ended up landing on top of a train station in either France or Germany and the roof gave way in steps and cushioned his fall. He actually had no serious injuries, though he was dazed. German troops who confronted him couldn't believe he survived the fall without a parachute, but the damage to the roof was apparent. It can happen, but the chances are slim.
Occasionally, people survive a fall after reaching terminal velocity. Glad to see the technical breakdown on how to best survive.

He actually had multiple wounds. His right arm was barely attached and also had a few other fractures, It's still considered a miracle he survived. There are about 5 people known to have survived this kind of fall. A Serbian woman holds the world record for surviving the highest free fall without parachute, she was the sole survivor of a terrorist attack on a commercial plane.
I'm pretty sure there is also a documented case of an airman surviving by having his fall broken by several layers of thin tree branches before then hitting ground covered in 6-feet deep snow? So yeah, miraculous survivals do happen...
Most skydivers would actually advise you to cut your main and deploy your reserve. If that also fails, which is about a 1:1,000,000 probability, you've got about 5 seconds left to find that swamp.

My father fell roughly 15ft/20ft from scaffolding & landed on his feet. He survived, but despite having the best Dr’s, multiple surgeries and a long stay at a wonderful Rehab facility, he still lived in pain & misery for the next 40 yrs.
Just place a water bucket below you right before you hit the ground. You can also use invulnerability frames by logging out and logging back in just before you touch the ground.

if you don't have a water bucket for some reason, you can also use twisted vines, ladders, scaffolding, or even sweet berries!
@@thevalarauka101 If you have a crafting bench near you and you're quick enough, you may be able to craft a boat in time as well. Also, if you have a saddle, you could get on a pig if you time it right.

People have survived falls from terminal velocity. They all basically lucked out and hit something that cushioned them (Deep snow, trees, a power line, and an ant hill are all examples of real things that enabled people to survive terminal falls.)

Good information to know. I was on the Alaskan Airlines flight 1282 when a door blew off January 5th. Ive seen similar videos like this one but still dreaded the thought of having to use this information. It still didn't make it any less scary.

That's highly suggested by the afterlife. You cannot press life alert or call mom or dad in these types of scenarios. It's not a fight or flight. It's called survival at all cost when free falling and there is a mishap.
I actually tried this two years ago when i couldn't open my parachute and it worked. I landed on a 4 storey roof top. When i woke up, it was all a dream

I know of only two falls from very high altitude with no chute where people survived. Both were WW2 gunners in those giant flying fortress type planes. Both free fell from around 20,000 with no chute! Nicholas Alkemade and Alan Magee. The first guy was a Brit- he landed in a snow bank, the other guy was American and he crashed through the glass roof of a train station in France. Both eventually made nearly 100% recovery and went on to live decades longer after the war.

I actually considered jumping out of a plane without a chute at some point. Oh, but that was only after it landed, and I had to evacuate by jumping onto an emergency slide from the door in the case of an onboard fire.

near my hometown someone on a jump with a jump instructor had their parachutes fail. The customer survived, but landed on the instructor who died. Turns out the company didnt have proper certification and was shut down as a result

By the way I know about 2 cases when it had happened .The first is the famous Yugoslavian stewardess which survived a 10 km fall and the second was an British soldier who somehow survived a fall with a failed parachute. You can google them.
@@iliapopovich the odds of someone intentionally pulling that off are so low, you're probably more likely to win the lottery.
you can also try to spin backwards with as much angular velocity as possible, and due to the magnus effect, you will almost fall horizontally. This way you have more mid-air time and a higher chance of surviving
(just kidding this probably won't work, but magnus effect is actually a thing used in aerodynamics you can look after)

That isn't true as a pregnant woman survived after a parachute failure and lived to talk about it. The child was born later too without any issues. I believe you can look that up here on RUclips as well!

@@magnum1968There is a big difference between a parachute failure and no parachute. Most of the time a failure means it still comes out but doesn't fully expand or the cords get tangled. It still slows you down considerably just not a ideal situation.
