Drill a small hole at the end of each crack to keep them from propagating. Then drill a tiny hole in the center of the broken piece and put in a tiny screw so you can pull it out to put the caulk underneath it then use a squeegee to keep everything nice and smooth when you’re finished.
That tub sure is beat up ! If this repair actually works, I am amazed. I am surprised that the shells aren't more indestructible than they are given the cost of a hot tub...
Also I would drill small holes at the beginning and end of each crack to keep from spreading.
Personally I would just fill them with clear fiberglass resin and then you can smooth it and make it look nice.
Hi DJ, have you done a repair using what you have suggested. I have a huge repair to do. So silicone just won't work so looking for alternatives.
@@artyfarty8 silicone is too soft and will just fall apart when the hot tub pump hums. It's fine for jet seals because the jet has pressure. If it's a small crack sealall works. But if it's bigger you need a 2 part epoxy. Something marine rated because it has extra chemical resistant.
I’m wondering if you could have got a better finish by first filling and then melting clear acrylic into the cracks to ‘weld’ them back together. Would have to be a pretty hot iron for welding acrylic though.
In the bottom corner the acrylic separated and crumbled. I removed the acrylic and it leaves a large 10" area with no acrylic. I got some silicon based sealant that was supposedly designed for hot tub repair but it will not stick to the fiberglass that is under the acrylic. It just rolls right off like it is teflon. I'm not sure what will stick.
That is a large repair area. Have you tried sanding the area or preping it w a solvent to key the surface?
I have a tub we had when I was younger in the early 80's. It don't have the bells and whistles but it's solid, that is a nice looking piece of junk it's to bad for how much they cost.
It did its purpose no complains..
Glue gun and a small dent puller from harbor freight will pull the shell out for you to seal it
Omg man this tub as so many cracks. You mostly need a nee shell. If repairing spa cracks please use fibergalss sheets and resin. With water pressure it wont last.
cant find the product anywhere are you in the USA?
I’m in Australia. The ingredient is listed as SMX Hybrid polymer
I don't see any water in it to confirm that the goo works.
somebody farted in that there and it had catastrophic results.
use epoxy.
Couldn’t you just patch it with fiberglass sand it down and smooth it out? If it’s gonna look like that and have all that silicone there might as well have a patch 😂 that will last
It was the acrylic that had broken not the fiberglass. The acrylic was less than 1/2 mil thick. And it was sitting out from the fiberglass like it had shrunk. The shell was pretty much done. This repair did get them another 18mths.
@@Marksreviewsandtutorials awesome nice work I guess I wouldn’t know how to fix that kind of material 🙈
