Can a sim survive by only gardening in The Sims 3?

- I never really messed around with the gardening skill in The Sims 3, after this playthrough I don't think I ever will again!
I tried to make a sim survive by only gardening for money. Turns out that selling tomatoes for about 3 simoleons a piece is really not that profitable.

the sprinker could've made your life so much easier
The worst thing is I googled this a bit before I did it and forgot the sprinkler existed 💀
@@ryanplaysthesims even after your sim was playing in the sprinker...💀almost as if he was trying to tell you something
Hahahaha this makes it so much worse. I was just so happy he was finally having some summer fun
Gardening in 3 is like gnome carving in 1 💰💰💰💰💰💰
I always forget about the sprinkler 🤦🏾♀️
3:55 “I don’t think I had ambitions when I was a kid”

😄
Gardening is really overpowered in ts3. The red berry beans from university are plantable at level 1 and sell for a lot. Add in the gatherer trait from supernatural and you get perfect crops in no time. With a simple 5 by 5 plot you can get thousands with each harvest and with the consignment store even more.
Edit: accidentally typed ts4. The horror.
Edit2: Also you can just buy things to plant at grocery store. Also fridges come stocked with some simple veggies too.
Edit3: Usually I only get the Super Green Thumb as a flex later on. Doesn’t really do all that much honestly. Then again I use dragons, harvesters, the grow station and plumbots to speed up the gardening…
To be fair, gardening is quite overpowered in basically all the sims games. It's one of those things that intentionally take a long time to get going, but are very profitable once you do. I mostly play TS4. One of the best money-making plants in that game is the dragon fruit, which is base game, sells for hundreds of simoleons (at normal quality), and can most easily be obtained by grafting two fairly common plants together. And, because they are so expensive, they make one of the best fertilizers. Add to that, plants in TS4 don't die easily, and the Money Tree is easily obtainable by getting max level and buying a few rare seed packets (added with Seasons),... and you have a pretty easy way to attain and maintain your riches.
Also! Sprinklers (from generations iirc?) auto water your plants and cut your gardening time in half
@@justaperson4656 Sprinklers in ts3 from the base game, with the handiness skill they can be improved so that they water plants every 5 AM
@@Tevi_L7151 wait really? Man that's so cool! I only just started using sprinklers, so I know very little of them
@@jennynoelle6782 its not in ALL of the sims games. gardening sucked in ts1, it was not great in ts2 and ts3 really took it to another level even with the base game. ts4 is decent for sure... it can go places plus with the basemental mod you can become a marijuana millionaire very quickly lol
Ah, finally. Watching someone experience the main way I play the game.
There’s a store set called “Grandpa’s Grove” that comes with a tractor that allows you to water, weed, and harvest while riding. It makes playing as a farmer so much better
As a fairy, this is the main thing i did in the sims 3. Every single game i played, i always made a fairy and gardened 😂
17:32 "I'll just delete him" killed me. Especially with the way everyone that was watching him immediately realized they were tired of it 😂 "oh thank God, you saved us!!"
Hey ryan, its the sims 3’s 15th anniversary today!
That’s crazy! That means it’s been 15 years since I invited my mate on a family surfing holiday and ignored him the whole time because I was playing TS3 🤣
@@ryanplaysthesims 😂
I only ever sell items through the consignment store. Inventions, paintings, sculptures... all the things your Sims can make, sell it at the store. Yeah, you don't get money right away but I find they usually sell for more than just selling in your inventory. Plus, there are traits & rewards that increase how much money you make from selling consignments. Give me an Artistic, Perfectionist, Born Salesman sim with the Suave Seller reward & watch the money roll in.
I like that this turned into creating a little commune thing haha
17:32 HELP, THE SYNCHRONISED YAWN AS SOON AS HE DELETED THE SINGER 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Well, your videos got me to re-download sims 3. I'm enjoying it so far, and my simself just had a baby girl!
happy simming!
Also important to always keep one of the highest quality you harvested aside (in a chest or those supernatural cabinets or something) to plant when the previous plant is dead.
there's also the omni plant, which you can use to grow any fruit, veg or cooking component. not sure how to get it outside of opportunities but in one of my sister's playthroughs she got the omni plant and grew cheese, sausage links and eggs
Busted strategy of my choosing is Omni plant + Dragon Ripple, the most expensive book in the game. Farming the things nets you stupid amount of money
@@6ubble-gum oh wow i had no clue you could grow inedible things as well lol the omni plant is so versataile
In Sunset Valley there's also one Omni plant at the science lab for quick access to one, I only really use them for roleplay reasons personally.
youre videos made me obsessed with the sims 3 again, thanks for that
You can find garlic growing at the criminal career rabbit hole and it is quite valuable. 💖 I tend to go there and the science facility so we can get free produce there. Next I usually go to the Bachelor house and befriend the sims so we can raid their large garden. ❤
I actually love gardening (irl and in TS3) I give my Sims the Green thumb, Gatherer, and Angler traits with the Perfect Garden Lifetime Wish. The home lot, I usually create with a garden plot and a pond. Throw in the Faster Gardening mod and the SwiftGro Gardening Station and you'll be hitting that Wish in no time and reeling in the Simoleans. Thanks for the upload!
Loving the 30 minute sims 3 videos, even if it gets boring at times I just think it's the perfect amount of time for it
Hahaha I can’t win 🤣 people kept asking me to add all parts in and when I finally do it’s boring! I know what you were actually trying to say though and thank you ☺️
I like it long
@@ryanplaysthesims I think they meant that the gameplay has its boring moments when you're not cutting it out (as in watching the sim sleep and take care of needs etc) But not the commentary or the content at all! I much prefer the longer videos! Please keep them up!
Thanks for uploading this today! You're providing entertainment while I put away laundry haha. Glad you're feeling better!
I recorded this pre voice being gone so it’s not better yet but I hope you enjoy gal!
I’m so glad I found your channel! I miss old sims game and I just need this high-quality content with challenges. Thank you ❤
Even though I like the watering animation, I can't help but buy the schprinkler, it's so much easier, love the video!
Congrats on 20k Ryan!!!
Thank you so much! It’s so crazy to me that people care enough to watch this!
@@ryanplaysthesims So many people played the Sims as kids and find it boring now, but your videos are always SO entertaining! I could watch all of your videos back to back and still be entertained by the chaos, lol. You actually inspired me to redownload the Sims 3… and I played for 8 hours straight 😅 It feels like such a waste of time but it’s so addicting!!!
Gardening is so easy to live off of at the higher levels.
Or, at the lower levels if by "live" you just mean not dying of starvation.
My only personal experiences with playing Sims 3 is just the base game, but growing stuff like Angel Fruits is something I often did with Sims I played.
They sell well for a decent amount, and eating them reverses aging by a day.
Having to replant stuff after they go barren was always a chore without more than one set of hands doing the job.
No amount of Super Green Thumb can put that off forever...
I love how beautiful the greenery looks in The Sims 3. I’ve been enjoying your videos, I really like your humor.
Wonder how long it would take to start a " Gardening Commune" where you get everyone in town to come and live with you, sleeping only in tents and only making money by planting and selling stuff you grow. The main Leader would have to be a plant Sim too, obviously. I think I know what my next play through is going to be lol
Ryan: It's not a cult
also Ryan: You don't have to be single...but I'd rather not take someone who's committed to someone else. You should be committed to my garden and nothing else
“You want to move in?” “Well, you literally don’t have a house. There’s absolutely nowhere I could currently live that wouldn’t be better than this…. But yeah sure.”
this week I found your channel and now I only open youtube to watch your gameplays 😢 Here (Brazil) it's holiday since last wednesday and it got quite boring but I'm so glad I found your high quality content!! it made my days so much better ❤
I just watched a sims lore video about gardening so this upload is so on theme. Thanks Ryan for another entertaining video!
You should’ve called this the fight club challenge because this is the sims 3 equivalent of their commune in the movie.
Around the middle of the video it started looking like hippie weirdo draws other sims into a sect
I was never a fan of TS3 but it's a cool game. The open world concept and depth of the gameplay. A fitting prequel.
Since i found your channel I have been OBSESSED, literally love TS3 and love to watch your gameplays! Seriously you ace every one of them!
I love your sims 3 videos so much, there are so many features of the game I still don’t know and I’ve been playing since 09! Gonna play with gardening soon now
babe wake up new ryan plays sims video dropped
Sims 3 mod for faster gardening is a game changer
before I even start the video, I can go ahead and tell you yes, if you truly work hard for a skill and max it out you can really survive and live well!!!
Loved this video and i can not wait for more! 🔥
I love gardening!!! Excited for the video Ryan
i started on sims 3 and have been playing 4 for like 10 years now but am about to buy 2 for the first time so binging currently allllllllllll your content!!! you’re hilarious love love love
Hi Ryan! I love your videos so much, this made my day lol your names alone are so funny. Hope you’re feeling better soon!! ❤️❤️❤️
The apples and limes you harvest in the park are good for eating too. IIRC, one apple or one lime will fill your Hunger almost completely. Pick a few, eat one, plant the rest.
i found your channel recently and i’m a long time sims 3 player but i never have played as chaotic as you , you’re so entertaining 😭
This is a really fun video! It was cool seeing the garden grow and come to life! I love watching the sunsets in this game too!, the beautiful scenery is one of the things that keep me coming back to this game for years!! I could watch a video like this for hours I got really invested in the garden and house😆and your army of gardeners😅👏great work thanks for taking the time for this video😊it was really entertaining☺️
Ryan!! I had bday blues and this video made my day! I love the long vids haha! 🥰✨
Money trees, man. If you have a level 10 gardener, they upgrade sprinklers so the trees get watered daily, and they use excellent fertilizer (like life fruit) to the trees as often as they need it, and they harvest every day, nearly 2000 Simoleons a day per tree easy. A grove of 10 is about as big as you probably want to go, and that's a quarter million in two weeks.
Money trees are overrated, instead plant a whole field of red berry beans, row after row of them, and start a coffee plantation. You can buy them straight from the supermarket, there's no skill requirement to grow them, they're much easier and faster to propagate than money trees, and they still make insane amounts of money because each coffee bean can sell for a few hundred $ and you get multiple from each plant. The downside is you'll probably still need more coffee plants than money trees to make the same amount of money. But you still make a ton of money regardless especially if you get your coffee plants up to perfect quality, use sprinklers and other labor-saving methods, and raise lots of either birthed (better potential trait choices) or adopted (can start on later life stages to save time) children to become expert green thumb gardeners
@@nikolozgilles I never set out to do money trees, they happen. My favorite OP career is painting. The challenges for 15 paintings for the business office or wherever pay up to 4 or 5 times the actual price. Those are worth doing, they don't count toward the painter profession advancement but you can get partnerships in more rabbit holes.
Loving the longer videos, thanks Ryan!
Best crop in TS3 is BY FAR the red bean from Univesity. You get that plant to Perfect Quality, you sell them for 200 simoleons a pop.
Love the longer videos!
I recently found your channel and I've been obsessed ever since! Can you please make a video showing the mods you use because the sims 3 is so hard to play sometimes 😭
Not Ryan, but I know a lot of sims players use Nraas' mods to improve the playability of TS3, especially their Overwatch mod. It automatically cleans up passive actions in the neighbourhood, such as turning off speakers, TVs, resetting sims, etc.
I’m crying at “not Ryan” 🤣. I use Nraas overwatch too and the game has run so much smoother since. The only other mods I use are lazyduchess’s smooth patch and a few other Nrass mods
Kisses from Brazil! Love learning new English Accents! U help me and teach LOOOL luv u
Ah wild, I always do a lot with gardening because i love runaway teen challenges, and it's a good way to feed yourself and get extra cash.
Love your vids!
14:43 this is hilarious!! thanks blair for being so dedicated to the garden!
my new fav to watch
If you had the gardening starion from the store, it is so op that my sims fulfill the perfect garden in less than a sim week. It auto waters, identifies plants and makes them grow faster. Pair it with the dancing flower, it will fertilize your plants with outstanding one too. And you can talk to all the plants!
I miss this game! What a fun video!
the quality of your produce determines its price, and harvestables are usually higher quality than the plant itself. so if you want to make money, you harvest - grow what you got - harvest - grow until you reach max quality (perfect), at which point you can sell your produce for up to 10x the price
I struggle so much with the Tomb Raider crafting it completely puts me off even though I have been playing it since 2000 😂 I still love TR though, its a die hard hyper fixation
I think if you ever want to retry this challenge, planting your higher level produce only, and deleting your older plants, so that you end up with a perfect garden, will dramatically improve your profits!
I love your little blond work force
"it's not a cult" they said as you moved in to farm with no basic necessities, quit your job and flirted with the only other person there 😁
Geoffrey and Morgana should get married on your garden 😂
Holly, Bebe, and River should be your 3 gardening wives polycule 😂
I really enjoy gardening but ngl you gotta be very patient and i get so lazy 😭
this feels like a gardening cult and it's soooo funny
I've found there's no such thing as a quick challenge in sims 3, you can lose so many real-life hours and still not really have done anything useful toward the goal you set
The title of this video left me very confused, because I have never NOT had a gardener in the family. Like, of course you can live off gardening alone, what do you mean?? 🤣
You need the unknown special seeds
The special seeds... the seeds that are special
Often not just Blair and Agnes, but my CAS sims, and any kids and their imaginary friends that the wainwrights have, end up with crushes on Geoffrey 😂
I love that the vibe of your comune/forced labor camp/farm is *blonde*.
Why is the sim suspiciously holding and eyeing an eggplant in the thumbnail?🤔🤔😏😏
ah yes, adding "car" after saying "hitting kids" definitely helps XD
Cool challenge I might try that 🤣 love from Canada 🇨🇦🙂❤️
Could you try be a Ghost Hunter please? It will be so funny
ryan every video: im not a good builder
also ryan: makes the most beautiful garden 😭
Reading the title, yes, you totally can
You’d make bank with gardening if you plant high quality seeds and seellling the produce in the consignment store (idk why you ended up with selling them at the supermarket).
As someone who has been playing the sims 3 for 14 years. These comments still teach me something
Alternate title: I started a gardening cult in the sims 4
3:07 4:30 6:55 8:46 14:48 15:32
there's also legit money tree you can plant on sims 3 lol
What kind of beast of a computer do you have to run this game
They can eat from the plants in the ground too!
To eat from the plants, make sure no produce in inventory, click the red hunger icon. They'll automatically bend down and eat a produce.
And with produce in inventory, click one and select eat.
To not lose expensive produce, Cheaper - common ones are apples, lettuce, tomatoes and grapes. Maybe more?
Nice to see someone else giving gardening career a shot!
It's super frustrating, gardening at times, aint it!
now do this for sims 2 LOL
Gardening is the most busted thing in the sims 3. You just need to harvest a higher quality produce and plant it, it will grow a better quality one, you just repeat after obtaining perfect quality seeds.
8:10 Just call Jim Pickens bro! 🤷🏻♀️
youre not trying youre tryan
I’m always Tryan my hardest
@@ryanplaysthesims omg senpai finally noticed me
can you do a no money run
The way you say “inventory” is hurting my soul 🙃
Hahahah it’s the accent
Also picking the apples from the park trees isn’t stealing, and you said tomatoes wrong
I've made money gardening in ts3 but it does take a while...
I started playing Sims 3 again after so many years. I have tons of mods on it now. For some reason it feels like the days are WAY too short compared to Sims 4. Do you guys mess with the ingame time at all?
Future me did he get a plant baby ? Bcz he reacted so normally to uncommon seed
feels like you started Cult, with all this people with only goal in life is wokring for you on your farm
The blond exploitation in this video is crazy😂
I see you're not professional. You need apples only to gain the skill. After level 7 you throw away all the cheap plants and grow only truffles, life fruits or glow orbs. >200$ each
You don't even need a job once you get a money tree. Not even a challenge.. If mot still ridiculiusly easy. It's obvious you don't know much about gardening. If you wanted to just make money you should've planted garlic because you get a ton of garlic per harvest and it's considered rare.
Gardening is way better in the Sims 2
congrats on 20k!!!!! feels you just hit 18k like a week ago the growth is insane!!! also, since its pride month, I would love to see a queer themed type challenge maybe something trying to make a profitable gay bar in the sims 2, or 100 baby (maybe 30 for every day of June to make it easier on you) challenge with a queer couple, obviously you dont have to just some suggestions :)
17:30 “i’ll just delete him” “🥱🥱🥱” im crying
