Thank you so much, after seeing so many videos for a neat bind off, you made my day.😊 Lots of love and God bless. Excellent explanation and photography!❤
I've watched so many videos on the Italian bind off so that I can follow it and also so that I can do it neatly. Your video is the only one to really explain it so it is understandable. Thank you!
Your video of this bind off is the best I've seen out of several that I've watch. Perfect angle, clear verbal directions, slow and clear movements. I do wish it were in better focus, however. Now I need to watch more of your tutorials. :)
Your video is excellent! I’ve always thought this was such a complicated bind-off but you broke it down and then made it so easy to remember. Thank you!!
Coming back again, still the best and clearest! The repeat-memory-charm works great with my brain ;) I work "knit off/purl", then hold the work between index and thumb while pulling through. Same w/ "purl off/knit", simultaniously. Saves a little pulling and time...
That is a GREAT finishing method for fingerless mitts which use K1, P1 ribbing at the top of the hand. I also use the Italian cast on which then looks the same at the wrist. HOWEVER...traditional cast on and bind off does give a piece that “hand knitted look” which is unmistakable. When you’ve knitted 100+ pairs of fingerless mitts, the cast on and bind off methods vary with the mood du jour!
This is stellar. The only place in the world i'd seen it done was in Japan and it also resolves the questions of what to do in the first 2 stitches and the last 2 which were always tough. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this video!! I've been dreading doing a tubular bind off. Have tried to follow so many other videos and kept failing. Your video is so easy to follow and I managed to do it on first go! It's so easy to remember too!😍
I am a beginner knitter and I don't quite like the standard bind-off methods because it looks terrible on my sweater hand cuff. Actually, this method was a bit hard the first time, but I keep repeat the video until I finish all the cast-offs and was very satisfied with the result. Thank you for the tutorial 💖💖💖💖
Thank you for this - first time knitting a jumper and I used this to cast off my neck - it looks so much better than the standard cast-off I had planned! Plus the tension was great (I knit usually too tight) and it's basically stretchy! Well explained. Thanks again!
Omg, I used this video last month to bind off toe-up socks I was knitting and it worked SO well. It did take maybe an hour to do the whole thing (Maybe it's partially due to that it was my first time I was doing it and I didn't know how long of a tail I needed to do it), but it was so worth it. Also I was doing it for 2 socks at a time.), but it was so worth it. The instruction were crystal clear.
Thank you so much , I tried to follow the instruction before but I could not understand the language . Now u gave it in English I wil definitely be able to learn now to do it.
You're very welcome Marie! I'm sorry I didn't add it in earlier, I'm still learning all of RUclips's features and only just worked out how :) hope it's helpful!
I used to follow another youtubers instructions for this but it didn’t include how to deal with the last two/first two connection. I’ll follow yours from now on!
Since this is not requiring use of the back needle and if you are doing Magic Loop or using two circulars or even Flexi-Flips, any of these, the back needle can hang down and is then far less likely to get caught when you are sewing on the front needle. Otherwise, the tutorial is really great and the technique is one to want to use, most definitely.
I loved this video and I used it one of my projects and it turned out so beautifully. So thank you for that. Now I'm on another project which requires a 2x2 bind off in the round. How do I go about that? Pls help 🙏
Thanks for this video. For the life of me I couldn't figure out why my bind off done according to the written instructions came out looking wonky. Now I realize I slipped all stitches pearlwise instead of alternating between knit and purl. Do you know if there's a way to rip this cast off? The first 15 cm of my cardigan are very different from the rest due to this mistake.
Is there a way to do this if the first stitch of the rib is a purl? I.e. not a K1P1 rib, but rather a P1K1 rib - flat, unfortunately, not in the round, so i can't just skip a stich. I might mess around with it unless you have any ideas!
Did you ever find the answer to this? I'm finishing a cardigan that calls for P1K1 rib as well and am not sure how to adapt this. Would love some help!
Yes, if you see what she's doing, she purls the knits and knits the purls. Start by passing the needle knitwise on the purl, then purlwise on the knit.
In case someone is in the same boat, as was I, what I did was to treat the first purl and knit stitches as one and it seems to have worked fine. I'm a beginner knitter, finishing off my first ever sweater, so take my advice with a pinch of salt and mind that my wool is very fluffy, so I was betting on that helping me hide my experiment. Would love to hear from an experienced knitter!
This is brilliant, unfortunately I need to do or follow written instructions as I find it hard to hold watching and have to go over and over again. I see some one has done that for the startup is there any where I could get it for the repeat process
It would have been nice if my first stitch was a knit row, as yours was. Since you didn’t specify, I figured it was irrelevant. While the bind off looks ok, it doesn’t look the same. Still looks better than a regular bind off tho.
Thank you so much. I have been looking for days for a way to bind off a cuff 2.5" wide in the round that is NOT stretched out. Your sample looks very even top and bottom. Next, I need to find out how to attach cuff to beanie cap I have knitted. Can you help me with that?
I just did this for the first time and it was a great tutorial - except that I didn't realise my knitting was purl then knit, meaning the whole bind off I did was wrong. How would you do this for purl then knit rather than knit then purl?
Hi Lauren! Are you knitting in the round? If so, a really easy fix is to undo the final stitch of your final round, then slip it to the start of your bind off round. You won't notice that it's 1 round shorter than the other stitches, and it should mean that when you start binding off, you'll have a "knit, purl, knit, purl" pattern by default. Let me know if that doesn't do the trick!
Possibly not unfortunately, the patterning really aligns best with a k1, p1 sequence. There might be a way to repeat the knit stitch action twice, then work the purl action once, and continue to repeat across the rest of the bind off, but I'm not quite sure how that would work out as I haven't tried it myself. Jeny's surprisingly stretchy bind off is a nice flexible alternative though!
Hi Celine! I'm sorry but I haven't tried modifying this technique for k2 x p1 ribbing myself. You might be able to try changing up the order of knitwise and purlwise directions with the tapestry needle to make it work, but I think it'll need a bit of experimentation.
I watched it over and over again and i am doing it just like in the video but my edge is not clean, not stretchable and literally ruined the piece. I dont know what i am doing wrong ;-(

@@TheSweaterCollective Any advice if it's flat and starts with a purl? I'm kicking myself for not taking a better look at this bind off before I started, but it's 200+ st per row, done and I'm not going back now! 😝
This was a great tutorial, but when I did it it turned out poorly without some set up rows. I recommend others use set up rows first before using this method to bind off.
Hi Isabelle! I always provide written instructions for the required cast on and bind off techniques in my knitting patterns (provided there aren't multiple ones to choose from, which would take up pages and pages of space). My Torrens Mitts pattern in particular includes written instructions for an invisible ribbed bind off - www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/torrens-mitts
It is worth emphasizing, since it is basically impossible to undo the stitches, that, you should start the pattern on a knit stitch. I missed this (foolish I know) and did a good 20 stitches wrong before noticing. Also that you will need way more bind-off yarn length then you ever thought possible. Also, tension needed to be firmly tugged along the way. Other than these initial hiccups it worked beautifully for this beginner knitter, thanks for the lovely video!
In my opinion, this video is the best of its kind and for this technique that you can find here.

I have been knitting for 30 years and have never done this before. Your video was very easy to follow. Thank you so much.
This is by far the clearest video on this technique and I’ve referred to it several times now 👍🏻
I'm so glad to hear you've found the video helpful, thank you for your lovely feedback! ♥️

On a top down sweater, binding off 350 stitches in this method is a bit daunting.......seems the yarn needed would tangle on every stitch.
it was daunting but two hours later.....I had a beautiful neat bind off for my sweater.
It does! You have to be patient, drop the needle and just gently pull the tails through. Worth it though. 😊
