So many knitting videos by people who can knit but have no idea how to teach knitting. FINALLY, a clear, concise video, including a simple chart, that actually teaches how to knit the stitch. Thank you!
You have the heart of a teacher! I'm an advanced knitter, but I watched several how-to videos before it finally clicked for me by watching yours. Yours was the only one that explained you work the knit stitches and purl stitches IN PAIRS. Thank you!
I don’t usually comment on things I watch but after watching several of my regular videos about this bind off and trying, trying, trying I kept digging and thankfully found this. I did watch and rewatch the whole time I was doing this button band but, thanks to your great tutorial, I finally got it finished! I hope you have more tutorials for me to watch as I am teaching myself to knit with only RUclips as my guide. THANKS! 8:45
Hi Ellen, Thank you for your excellent video and the memory tool. I only internalised these steps after following your graphic instructions. So clear. You have nailed how to get your message through to even a novice knitter! Actually I have just finished knitting a vest and the whole process has been done via RUclips tutorials. Your tutorial is, however, unique. Thank you so much.
You are a great teacher, thank you , thank you, thank you. This is the first video I've watched that makes this bind off understandable. The mnemonic is awesome. Looking forward to your other videos.
Great video, thank you. I just did this bind-off on a sleeve and easily recalled what to do. I've had trouble with other videos on this method. Thanks again, Anne, Tasmania 🦘
What a relief to find your video. Watching other videos, I kept ripping out, then forgetting where I was. Aargh! Your mnemomic and crystal clear instructions made all the difference. Thank you!
This is the first time in my 25 years of knitting that I actually learned how to sew an Italian bind off!! I have given up on it in so many projects and I can only wish I had seen your video before. It’s amazing!! And the mnemonic is absolutely genius!! Thank you soooo much for that! This is gold 👌🏼
After trying 4 other videos (and ripping it out each time, I finally stumbled upon your video. FANTASTIC chart and explanation. My yarn is loosely spun fuzzy, splitty alpaca, and so to do the twisted K into the purl stitch (step 4), I pulled the yarn through between the stitches to the front, and then it was easy to K that purl stitch on. Thank you SO MUCH. You've saved my mittens - and my sanity. SUBSCRIBED
Thanks so much for your tutorial. I was just about to give up on a tubular bind off, but after watching your tutorial about 20 times, I have it! It turned out great and I’m glad I stuck with it. I like that you used very thick yarn and big needles. It early helped to see what you were doing.
This tutorial saved me!!!!!! I am very visual and was so frustrated with other videos. Thank you so much!! BTW I had my husband trying to help me and he is not a knitter....you saved my marriage LOL🤣
I have watched several videos, trying to get it in my head how to do this Italian bind off your video is awesome. I will have no trouble completing the bind off with your instructions. Thank you so much.😊
I have struggled immensely with the Italian bind off and your video made SO much sense! I completed the bind off without a single problem! I can’t thank you enough for this extremely clear and easy to follow tutorial! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Thank you so much for this tutorial!! I have tried many times to do the Italian Sewn Bind-off and it has never worked out for me. My theory is that I never really understood what was happening! I have watched many tutorials and this is definitely the one. Thank you so much!!
Finally! I have watched so many videos and your mnenomic finally sunk in…plus I can go back to remind myself how to do this later. Don’t know WHY it took so long to GET it ( since I’ve done the Kitchener stitch often enough!) but now I have the tool! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to unpick this on my latest sweater pattern . Thank you.
I'm so happy it helped! It took dozens of times practicing kitchener stitch and the Italian Sewn Bind Off for me to really get it. Abbreviating it into the mnemonic made all the difference for me as well. 😊
Wow 🎉 I struggle with remembering this bind off every time I do it and keep having to rewind video’s to rewatch and rewatch still getting myself in a muddle but this has finally got it in my head and I have you wonderful chart for reference just in case thank you so so much for this very grareful 😊
I'm making the Zipper Sweather by Petite Knits and it calls for an Italian bind off. Mind you I have never done this type of bind off before. And let me tell you, I was able to grasp the concept very quick and easy. However, no one every mentioned that it literally takes forever to do. I've been binding off the body ribbing of my sweater for two days now. I'm thrilled with the outcome but come on Italian bind off, just work faster hahah.
Thank you so much for this! Your excellent visual aid really helped me...I had to pull out my first attempt but your video helped me to master this method. Grateful !
i ended up falling into this rhythm of "knit and it stays on, knit and it comes off. purl and it stays on (go back!), purl and it comes off. (come forth!)" i was basically rapping it by the end of it, gonna have italian bind off stuck in my head for days now
So if my ribbing starts with a purl, my first two stiches need to be k the purl und p the knit, then continue according to your guide... right? UPDATE: was finally able to test it and it works just fine. Thank you so much for this amazing pictogram!
This technique relies on matching up a knit stitch with a purl stitch. If you want to use this after a k3, p1 ribbing I would first work a round of k1, p1 ribbing.
This is an amazing demonstration and the best one so far. I have been in a tizzy trying to figure out how to do this bind off. Thank you so much. I am now a new subscriber. ❤
I love this video but am having issues with the bind off as I’m not sure my stitches are sitting on the needle as the ones in the video so I might be twisting them wrong, in my case the left leg of stitches is in front and right leg in back, is this correct? Thank you so much!
Hmm, that's a tricky one. To not twist the stitches as you work the bind off you will want focus on the right leg with the instructions. If that's too difficult, I would slip your stitches to a needle to have the right leg on the front of the needle.
I love this video. I knit my socks toe up, and make the ankle top with a knit 3, purl 1 rib. Is it possible to use this bind off method on a k3 p1 rib?
This technique relies on matching up a knit stitch with a purl stitch. If you want to use this after a k3, p1 ribbing I would first work a round of k1, p1 ribbing.
I'm working the button plackets for Petite Knit Lulu Slipover. I'm instructed to use Italian cast off on the back side placket. My first stitch to work will be a purl stitch, not a knit (as was the other areas in this pattern). How do I knit the set up stitches with that stitch being a purl?
Hi. Thank you for the tutorial. What if you did k1p1 but you knitted through the back loop? How can I do an Italian bind off that way? Please help. Thank you.
Hi there, I don't have a lot of experience with this bind off for twisted ribbing myself. I did that @RoxanneRichardson made a tutorial recently for exactly that. Hope it helps! ruclips.net/video/vRZ62SX7_dY/видео.html
The last purl is worked as step 4 of the K - P - P - K sequence. Then a second time in the final 2 steps. Check out the pictorial linked in the description, it may be more helpful to see it broken down there.
I find it very confusing . It would’ve been better for me if you had carried on showing us the rst of the row instead of saying you carried on to the end . I cold t follow it after that
Thanks for commenting, everyone learns differently. On this channel I work to provide videos that have sections that can be rewatched as many times as you need without making the video too long. I added a time stamp to the description at the beginning of the Step by Step instructions to make it a bit easier to repeat that portion of the video. 01:46 is the beginning of the step by step. If you learn with pictorials there are step by step instructions and images here www.knithow.com/learn/italian-sewn-bind-off In the end if my teaching style doesn't work for you with this technique I'd recommend this video by @verypinkknits ruclips.net/video/FNbanlVzbxw/видео.htmlsi=L-1R_a0M1LYd85em
I give up. No stupid tutorial ever works or makes sense. You just go so fast and in circles. I can’t keep up and I can’t pause every 2 seconds to catch up without dropping everything and ducking ruining my projects. I’m done. I don’t care what a pattern calls for, I’m never trying this stupid method again 🤬
One of the beautiful things about knitting is there is always another way. If this bind off doesn't click go with what does. If you prefer there is a pictoral linked below this video with pictures of each step, that may be easier for you to work along side.
This it the BEST tutorial EVER!!!!! After watching others, I'd given up...decided to search once more...and HERE YOU WERE!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH.....
Sometimes we just need the information presented differently. So glad I was able to help you over this hurdle.
Thanks, this was a great tutorial. I think this will help me to remember it without looking it up.
So many knitting videos by people who can knit but have no idea how to teach knitting. FINALLY, a clear, concise video, including a simple chart, that actually teaches how to knit the stitch. Thank you!

The first sewn bind off tutorial that has made any sense!! Thank you!

The memory tool is the best. With this tutorial finally I got it ❤❤❤
How does this video only have 26 likes? It's the best Italian bind off tutorial I've seen!
Thanks so much, I’m really proud of this one 🥰
@@knithow could you tell me wether I can do this bindoff in a knit 1,purl 2 sequentie??
@@liesschotman7973 Unfortunately, this bind off won't work for knit 1, purl 2. The magic in the Italian Bind Off requires 1 knit to 1 purl.

this was the best, clearest, simplest tutorial on how to do this I found! Now LOVE the italian bind off!
Very clearly and easy to remember! This is the best Italian bind-off tutorial video I've seen.
Thank you so much!
You're very welcome!
This is an excellent tutorial. Clear and concise and the chart helps the technique sink in.
Brilliant instructions and I love the memory chart! I've done this bind off before, but I think this is one of the clearest videos!
Excellent teaching video on this bind-off technique! Thank you!

Wow! This is so clear and easy to understand and follow! Thank you.
Best tutorial! I was confused before finding this video but this made complete sense. Thanks you
This is by far the best tutorial. I come back to it every time I need to do this bind off!

Thank goodness I found your video. I thought I was going crazy till I found your explanation !!!! It all suddenly made sense. Thank you.

With the help of your clear tutorial, I just did my very first Italian Sewn Bind-off on a sleeve and it looks great. Thank you so much!
Great job! 👏
Thank you so much. This is my go to video when I’m doing this bind off. It is so easy to follow. You’re a great teacher.
I have struggled immensely with the Italian bind off and your video made SO much sense! I completed the bind off without a single problem! I can’t thank you enough for this extremely clear and easy to follow tutorial! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Oh thank makes me so happy!
Thank you for explaining going around and through the back of a stitch. Definitely cleared that up and now stopped hunting for a better view.
So glad it helped!
The absolute best tutorial.
Thank you so much for this tutorial!! I have tried many times to do the Italian Sewn Bind-off and it has never worked out for me. My theory is that I never really understood what was happening! I have watched many tutorials and this is definitely the one. Thank you so much!!

I have tried learning this bind off from so many tutorials, but you are one taught this perfectly. Thank you ❤

Thank you so much for making this tutorial!!! I could not have done this without the chart you made. So smart. Thank you.

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I finally understand the entire method now.
Great to hear! It's a tricky bind-off for sure but so worth it :)
Thank you so much for this video! I have watched several tutorials to learn this bind-off, and this one is by far the best.
You're very welcome! ☺️
Incredibly helpful! I appreciate the chart.
Glad it was helpful!
Very helpful! Thank you for clear explanation and demonstration!
Thanks for watching!
The cheat sheet helped a ton! Thank you so much for the super clear and detailed instructions!

Such great method to teach! Thank you!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Definitely the ultimate superb way of teaching this technique. A good teacher is a teacher for life! Thank you!
Wow, thanks for this!
Thank you so much for this video. Could you please explain how to bind off Italian style with 3 knit 1 purl?
This technique relies on matching up a knit stitch with a purl stitch. If you want to use this after a k3, p1 ribbing I would first work a round of k1, p1 ribbing.
Under rated video & your cheat sheet is great!
Thank you!
Excellent video! Thank you
Thank You! Great video...made it easy!
Your tutorial is just best ❤
Super helpful! Thank you!
Great tutorial, Ellen! 🤩
Thank you 🙏
This is an amazing demonstration and the best one so far. I have been in a tizzy trying to figure out how to do this bind off. Thank you so much. I am now a new subscriber. ❤
Welcome 🙏 I’m thrilled this video helped break down the technique for you.
Hello, thank you for the excellent tutorial.
What if the first stitch is a purl. E.g., Lulu slipover placket by petiteknits?
I love this video but am having issues with the bind off as I’m not sure my stitches are sitting on the needle as the ones in the video so I might be twisting them wrong, in my case the left leg of stitches is in front and right leg in back, is this correct? Thank you so much!

Do you have an explanation video of the first steps if the first stitch is a purl?
Oh wow, this is Kitchener stitch, only it's on one needle! 🤯 * new life hack unlocked *
Exactly!
Best video
I'm working the button plackets for Petite Knit Lulu Slipover. I'm instructed to use Italian cast off on the back side placket. My first stitch to work will be a purl stitch, not a knit (as was the other areas in this pattern). How do I knit the set up stitches with that stitch being a purl?
Love your memory tool! This has been a game changer for me🩷So easy to follow & find where you are. Thank you so much for this!
How long should have have in the needle before cutting off and starting this process?
Hi. Thank you for the tutorial. What if you did k1p1 but you knitted through the back loop? How can I do an Italian bind off that way? Please help.

Thank you...👏👏👏👏
What if your round starts with purl and not a knit? How do I set it up?
What is the difference with the Tubular Bind off?
Wow❤
I don’t get the ending. The last purl stitch is not worked twice, or did I miss a step?
The last purl is worked as step 4 of the K - P - P - K sequence. Then a second time in the final 2 steps. Check out the pictorial linked in the description, it may be more helpful to see it broken down there.
Thank you for the great video!
So happy you like it :)
This looks so much like a Kitchener graft..
It is essentially the same thing, good catch!
Here i am again 😅😊🤣🤣🤣🤣🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
