Ok, glad to see this interview!! Good overall job, Anthony - But some notes here: 1) Lighten up! Set the tone early this way to get your guest to open up and give fuller answers. This seemed to go much better in the end part of the video. 2) Be more concise with your questions! You seemed so long winded in your questioning initially, that when he tried to respond at a reasonable spot, you were still going on and determined to finish, even at the expense of his answer. It's kind of more like he's moderating a debate than interviewing a popstar. It's the biggest interview he's had though I imagine he's nervous and trying to keep it to a sort of path that he wants.
I really like the concept of this interviewing style too, little interference. Though I think Anthony should just be less anxious and let things have more space to develop without cutting to the chase so quickly. Also, I think it's nice and even adds to the interview when the guest gives a few more communicative nods about musical contexts or other artists and Anthony totally has enough knowledge about it to expand on what they're saying without driving the attention too much towards him. I think by making these corrections he could reach a nicer flow.
I discovered Demon Days and Plastic Beach earlier this year and they have become two of my favourite albums. A beautiful cap off of 2020 with Song Machine, a refreshing update of the Gorillaz legacy. It is good too! Damon, thank you for honoring my hometown in "Hong Kong" some 15 years ago!

I mean, idk, to me it felt more like Damon spoke prematurely before letting Melon finish, but at the same time when Damon started speaking it really seemed like Fantano had finished his sentence and could've perfectly let him go on Kinda weird overall
Damon is notoriously hard to interview and can be a bit intimidating. From what i've seen he doesn't really have the same "flow" in his speech like most people and has a pretty disconnected thought process, which means he can go on pretty long tangents and speaks whatever comes to his mind. Even if it means speaking over the interviewer. Considering Anthony doesn't really do this for a living I think he did pretty well and it felt like Damon was engaging in the conversation and never seemed to get irritated or bored like he sometimes does (though there were some awkward moments lol) in interviews.
This was a fantastic interview. I am such a fan of both of you and have become so heavily inspired by your intricate analysations and clever questions that, as said by Damon, are so unique and differ astronomically compared to the mundane, standard asking. Damon is an incredible musician and it’s brilliant to hear his stories and his methodical way of picking collaborations as well as the essence of Gorillaz as an entity. Brilliant conversation.
I was one of those comments damon and I'm okay with a tune going over my head. I know I can always expect you to create something I love and can't get enough of 👍 great interview melon
Me too. Just watch some 90s blur videos. He is so energetic and charming, and still is today as Gorillaz. Only this time, he becomes the equally charming and energetic 2D
When damon mentioned how the specials influenced him that made so much sense all of the sudden, the gorillaz really carries on their sound/energy more than any other band
I admire the methodical approach but, as another commenter mentioned, it is very surgical. I’m not certain of any bounds or oddities in your Twitch contract but to see more free form conversations would be fantastic in these interviews! I’m loving the recent interview content a lot, you’re questions are getting better and better and that’s amazing to see! Absolutely wonderful that you managed to link with Damon, brilliant job.

I mean, idk, to me it felt more like Damon spoke prematurely before letting Melon finish, but at the same time when Damon started speaking it really seemed like Fantano had finished his sentence and could've perfectly let him go on
Kinda weird overall
It's a Zoom thing. Pretty hard to react to the other person talking because of the delay.
You guys STOP HATING ON ANTHONY
He's just really nervous talking to one of his idols and being sponsored by youtube it's self
Fantano gets sponsored by RUclips? How does that work out
Itself
what
He does this publicly and the guy is open for critics, he literally makes his life out of doing this to someone else's work.
I was one of those comments damon and I'm okay with a tune going over my head. I know I can always expect you to create something I love and can't get enough of 👍 great interview melon
Good thing he clarified he was Anthony Fantano from TheNeedleDrop
Are they a band or something??
Really love how gushing Damon is about Opium. It's probably my favourite track on the album and now I'm excited to see it live!!!!!
I can tell melon is so nervous in this interview he's like 🧍🏻♂️
I still think I dreamt this whole interview up. What a 'worlds-of-my-interests-colliding' interview
Nice Damony Albino interview, Anthon Fantarn
i like how they're both looking down on each other
What is this clickbait anthony? I thought you were doing an interview with gorillaz, why is blurs lead singer here
This interview is also uploaded on the official Gorillaz channel. Our melon man is branching out as an interviewer !!
I have such a huge crush on damon albarn ngl
@Oscar H I'm a 19 year old guy and I'd go gay for Albarn
Me too. Just watch some 90s blur videos. He is so energetic and charming, and still is today as Gorillaz. Only this time, he becomes the equally charming and energetic 2D
@Oscar H bruh am I not allowed to have a celebrity crush? Haha big oof. I'm also not going to say my age online but I am at the very least an adult.
When damon mentioned how the specials influenced him that made so much sense all of the sudden, the gorillaz really carries on their sound/energy more than any other band
I love how Damon is just sitting in his Kirchen!
people in the US aren’t gonna realise just how huge this is for anthony - damon is massive over here in the UK
I'm pretty sure anyone watching the video is already a fan of both of their work and would know this is a big deal.
Interviewing Damon Albarn! Wow. Anthony is officially a big deal. And no, that is not sarcasm. I'd be giddy af during this entire interview.
My Pusey literally threw up
Very happy you're getting big opportunities like this
people gotta reckon that lots of the interruptions and accidental awkwardness were caused by this being held over a Zoom call
Absolutely wonderful that you managed to link with Damon, brilliant job.
this is epic fantano. great interview
Cheer; really enjoyed that, asking good questions and some cool insights
Gorillaz might be one of the most genius ideas in music history.
Been following the melon since 2012. His Plastic Beach review was the first video I saw by him. It's honestly so awesome to see him interviewing this legend!
Why is this not more viewed? This man is interviewing 2d dawg.
i like how anthony was uninterested on how it was a chilly autumn for damon
What a incredible musician Damon is. He is too good and a he’s a great musical guide.
Loved the interview but when you asked if he had his official "zoo licence" that was really odd
With BMTH sharing his review on ig I think that could be an upcoming interview
Either Damom has a really small Screen or really nad Eyes or he just is the shy kid from class which I can't imagine.
