Sometimes I laugh at just how much we agree on stuff. I “saw” it yesterday. So much excitement around it so I decided to check it out. I’m watching your review and I knew EVERY SINGLE REFERENCE you were making. You didn’t have to spell it out for me because I caught the same things. I don’t hate the movie. I think it is a lot better than the crap we’ve been given for nearly 40 years. But you nailed it with the term fan service. They took all the parts we loved and spit it back at us with a “hot young cast” I appreciated the Android character. I did feel like he was playing the unthreatening black guy to manipulate sympathy from the audience. But that might be unfair. Anyway, it wouldn’t have been the actor’s fault. It was down to the writer. I also think we needed more time to get to know the cast. Anyway, perfectly summarized, as usual. Fan service. I’m going to quote my mom, I’m not angry, just disappointed. 😊
This is about on par with Alien 3 for me. But while Alien 3 started badly but got better as it went on, Romulus started good but got weaker as it went on. The best series reference in Romulus was even the 20th Century logo ending on a scare cord like in Alien 3. The rest I could have done without.
I like this better than Alien 3, but I definitely understand your perspective. That back half can be fixed. Just need to make some changes to the script.
Glad you dug it. I was loving the first half so much, but it started to lose me when a CGI character popped up, and the last third just didn't work for me at all.
Honestly, everybody said that last third or last part of the movie has been kind of iffy. It’s kind of why I’m going with the whole wait-and-see until Tuesday and then I won’t be spending too much money out-of-pocket.
Hey man. I liked it. Although when I first saw they were making a new alien film I was like hell naw. But then I saw the trailer and it got me interested. I went to see it and I enjoyed it. It's not gonna blow your mind. There isn't gonna be anything new in the movie.... Kinda.... But it was a good solid horror alien film. I'm pretty interested to where they take the franchise now.
The film only gets worse the more I think about it. First off the xenomorph and the effects of it are great. Acting was also good. But the nostromo was vaporized because it was a mineral ore factory. So it wouldn't exist. The big chap can't produce face huggers so that was dumb. And then we have the cgi dead actor which is so disrespectful of that actor not to mention it looked like crap. Then a pregnant woman randomly injected herself with something she didn't know about for no reason so she gives birth to a alien engineer. All because Ridley Scott hates the Queen Alien. Prometheus covenant and now romulus only purpose is to try and ret con the queen and it never actually makes sense
Yeah, I'm bummed out. I have mixed emotions on this movie. They had member berries if you look at the backgrounds and nods to the other movies and all the Suttle dialog rehashes from the other films.
This is the first review/impressions I have heard that pretty much lines up exactly with my thoughts on it. And yes, the "one particular thing" (and the rest of the forced fan service) was particularly bad and distracting.
It's not as good as Alien 3, in fact all the alien movies after alien 3 have just make alien 3 look better, esp the assembly cut. I thought it was rubbish!
I loved it
Glad you dug it! I certainly loved half of it.
"the rest of the franchise can burn in a fire.." so agree on that
Thank you! None of those other films have added to the franchise in a positive way.
I personally can get some enjoyment out of Alien 3, Resurrection and the first AVP but even I can say there not great films.

I loved it, i think the 3rd act takes a huge swing but i dug the hell out of it.

Seeing it tomorrow. Looking forward to it
sorry to hear that
@@kingmack-w6p no you're not

Yeah, I really disliked the last third. It borrows from some of the worst entries in the franchise. Incredibly bizarre and disappointing.
i’m so sad now. 😞

Yup, I'm mixed as well. The member berries and most of the callback fell really flat.
So many missteps in this movie that, like you said, it just fumbled all the positives that could have been

5/10

Thats really disappointing. This director seems to struggle with writing good endings.
He really does. None of his endings have been good. This movie starts so strong, but it starts to fumble so hard at the half way point.
