I have 6 house dogs and I’m PRETTTTYYY sure a single bird would create chaos between my dogs:( I just admire how smart and beautiful birds are and I’ve watched a million videos about birds which I know is not an easy job especially because I would want to give it the freedom to fly around.. therefore I will will keep watching these videos and living the fantasy of owning a bird through RUclips 😆

I think breed matters a lot. We picked our Pyrenees because they are bred to watch over prey animals on farms, including chickens. She was super gentle and protective of my conure.

I was kind of scared when I got my cockatiel because my dog is a terrier and those breeds are known to hunt small animals. We actually got reAlly lucky because my bird is the one bullying my dog. We are always careful when they are around each other but this video will help sooooo many people and birbs. Ur videos are so helpful, Keep doing what you’re doing!

Thanks so much for watching! ❤️ I think we got pretty lucky too! Ava never really goes after the birbs which I’m super grateful for! There were a couple times in the beginning where the birbs would fly to Ava to inspect her and that’s when Ava pretty much learned that bird bites hurt! Now Ava would rather much avoid the birbs because she scared of them but she’ll always be nearby when they’re eating so she can eat whatever falls to the floor lolol

We had a dog, Quinn, a lab\pit mix, before we got our pineapple conure, Amie. Amie was clipped when we got him so we were very careful about them being near each other. We have bonded with Amie and have taught him recall. We introduced the two animals slowly. We allow them to be in the same room together. Quinn is a very good boy. He keeps his distance. Amie ignores Quinn. So far it is working!

I just got a parrot, Paco, Maxximus. I brought him home and introduced him to my 2 year old Cane Corso that I have personally trained. So far there have been no incidents. Paco and Maxximus were both curious at first, and Maxx is super interested when Paco jumps down to the ground. I have leash control with commands whils Maxx is off leash, but I wouldn't recommend that trust to anyone else that hasn't trained their own dog as much as I have. We live in Esteli, Nicaragua and off leash walk all the time. He only ever chases cats.

Your advice came just in time! We've been talking about a dog, but we have two two-year-old cockatiels. I was worried we could never make it work, but your video is giving me the confidence to seriously consider it. We've been working on recall training, but one of my birds isn't very food motivated -- can you suggest an alternative?

I have a dog and am planning on getting a green cheek within the next year. My dog has experience with a ringneck. My dog is a hunter, not with birds as much, rabbits are preferred. My bird will stay fully flighted just in case. This video is great and I will definitely implement some of this when I am ready to get the bird.

Toby (schnauzer-yorkey mix) almost ate Peridot (parrotlet) today causing me to have a melt down and hyperventilate after I got Peri back in his cage. Went on RUclips to find what I can do to stop that from happening again, so thanks for having this video!

Thank you for this! I have a young flighted (agree-that’s essential!) cockatiel (Ringo) who is quite fearless and 2 older dogs. I got lucky because, from day one, there have been are no problems. I think that’s probably mainly due to the fact that they are seniors. Doxie-mix just doesn’t care and Vizsla (very bird driven in her prime) is sensitive to noises and hates the chirping so she leaves the room when Ringo’s out. When she does decide to stay, she just tries to ignore him. Of course, like you say, I never assume anything and do not leave them unsupervised! BUT, I am getting a mini-poodle puppy soon so I was so glad to find this video. You did a great job in covering the topic! Thank you, thank you!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I’ve been waiting years to get a parrot as thought it would be unfair on the amount of fun energy my dog had Now he’s old but don’t have to worry about him accidentally stepping or hurting one, hes still a tad clumsy doesn’t relies hes size but think he’d get on beautifully with a parrot now & might even help rejuvenate him :)

I'm about to go ahead and pull the trigger on getting a medium small parrot. My only concern at this point is how my dog is going to take it. He's a 96 lbs Doberman. He's absolutely a sweetheart, he's never shown aggression towards anyone or anything, and he's super well trained. He's 8 1/2 years old and super lazy, but I don't crate him, so I think I'd have to make sure I put the cage in a room he can't get to while we are out.

Hello Rosa, well I've got 6 pet Birds and just got a dog a few days ago, he's a Maltese Shih tzu mix and they're bonding, my indian Ringneck just gave him a kiss, after some encouragement so they could strengthen their bond from a early age and grow up with each other. My Birds are about 3 to 5 years old but he's just a puppy and will hopefully have a strong bond and be kind too each other.
Two of my Cockatiels are still a bit unsure and scared of the new arrival but a couple of my Birds are warming up too him already, so hopefully they will soon as well.
My new dog is so cuddly, playful, affectionate and very funny and that's just what I wanted, we both get separation anxiety already and don't like being away from each other, if I'm out of the house for a bit, he cries.

I've got a chance to get a eight week old collie puppy and a 10 week old hand raised quaker parrot both close enough to collect would bringing them both home as babies and having them grow up together help with ensuring they get on. It didn’t take very long for them to be okay with my bird, BUT my dogs have a relatively low prey drive, about a month later, my dogs sleep with the bird around and if he happens to land on the floor, there is almost zero reaction from my dogs so I guess I just got lucky. I had almost no training or introduction to each other.

I plan on getting a budgie or cockatiel at some point, and this is extremely helpful! I’ve been training my dog since I adopted her a year ago, and she’s done really well, but I do need to tame her prey drive a bit more. She does well in the pet store, as she completely ignores the birds, but she tends to chase them out in the yard. We’ve been working on that though though redirecting and positive reinforcement.
But do you recommend any breeders?

I have two saint bernards ones a year old and the other is 6. i am looking to get a male eclectus but i am so worried my saints will frighten the little guy when i bring him home. i will have my bird mostly in a separate part of the house however the dogs will have to walk by him when going to do there business. do you think there's hope of them coexisting?

I finally got my dog to remain calm and uninterested around my new green cheek...but now she is charging him. She will jump down and start attacking him and I am worried she will get herself hurt. I want them both to exist(with me) in my study, as he's very attached and the study is where she can e out and about.

I have a little parrotlet and am hoping to get a low prey drive dog breed like a Bichon Frise, however I wouldn’t feel comfortable having them out at the same time especially because my parrotlet only stands about 4” and I am very attached to her! Would introducing them to each other so they get used to each other but not letting them out at the same time be ok? I get the making sure they know of the other’s existence and not keeping them completely separate but I would feel too worried letting them out together even if they were supervised.

My dogs have made it clear they would love to eat my birds. We put a cheap used screen door on the bird room/avairy. Blocks the dogs from seeing them and allows them to chat with us when we aren't in the avairy! Attached a bungie to the inside of the door so it will close behind me when hands are full! It may look silly at the end of the hall but works beautifully!

I'm thinking about getting birds. I have a small dog and she's very well behaved. I'm kind of a recluse and dislike going outside very often. My dog is very well taken care of and has a very clean space to live and go potty. I'm just thinking a talking/cuddle buddy would be good for her. Let me know what you think.

My family got a puppy last month. He is to small to hurt my birds, but they haven’t met. I just don’t risk it at all. And how my family and house is my birds stay in my room and my puppy says in a playpen if he isn’t being watched because he’s so small. I just don’t risk it, period.

We have a terrier mix that grew up with 3 other dogs. Since the other dogs have passed away, our terrier mix has become dog aggressive..... all 15 pounds of her. When she was younger we had chickens and the dog would mingle with the chickens when I was with them and she was always good with them. She has always chased and killed rabbits and lizards when she could catch them but she is too old for that now. I see that she chases all the wild birds now and barks at them if she feels they are perched "too low" on the trees outside. She seems happy that they fly away and we've seen her chew on dead baby birds that fall out of their nests when they are only a few days old. We get a lot of that during certain months, as we live in the desert and that happens quite a bit every season. We correct her and she listens and drops the birds but I'm not sure if she would still be good with chickens, the way she was when she was younger. She is a very obedient dog and listens to all commands, including "drop it" or simply "no". I'm not sure if it's safe to bring a bird in our home, even though they would never be unsupervised. We're thinking of getting a rescue bird but I want to make sure everything will be safe first. I'd really appreciate your thoughts on this. Thanks very much.
