  • I recently acquired Lee's bullet feeder magazine and filler kit that is used with a Lee breech lock bullet sizer die. This set up is designed for use with cast bullets. This video is the first in a short series. Part one is about my first run with this gear, using it on a "C" press.

    Don’t jump to conclusions just yet about this new gear. I think the system is going to be great with the APP. As of this video, I haven’t tried it yet. Next video 😄

    Also have the same problem with getting bullets sized directly into tubes, I took the magazine back apart and used my case mouth deburring tool and took the sharp inside corner off. Now they slide in better.

    Nice demonstration Viejo. As with most of Lee equipment there are little idiosyncrasies you need to learn. I still feel they put out the the best product for the buck. How about a little spring clip like we use on carburator linkage to stop it climbing up when you change tubes? Nice video, I'm sure you helped people with it. Have a great holiday.

    • @viejo2a
      @viejo2a  3 месяца назад

      The spring clip is a good idea, Bob. Even a rubber band might work. I have since figured out another possible ‘fix’. I’ll show that up next video! 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸

    I have the same set up, but I run it on my Dillon 750. I find loading the magazine easier if you load it from the bottom nose down, and cover the top.

    • @viejo2a
      @viejo2a  3 месяца назад +2

      Good tip for jackets or plateds, Lukas. My use is primarily going to be for cast bullets through the sizing die and that can only happen nose first through the die. I’ve used the system on my 550C and it works great! 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸

      @viejo2a Humm, I have sized base first into the tubes!...works just fine!... especially if your bullets are bevel base.

    • @viejo2a
      @viejo2a  3 месяца назад +1

      @@lukasstrne3780 yes..I’ve sized base first for various reasons in the past, but not with this system as of yet. It’s not a good idea with other than swc or TC bullets as you know, but I’m hopeful that I can get this system to work ‘as advertised’. 😄

    Very good Sir! Looks like many things Lee puts out. It works but you will need to tinker with it some. Since there's no room for a nut maybe drill and lock it in place with a pin???

      Hey TreeTop👋🏻 That was a fine idea. I did, in fact, put it to the test and it works. I gave you credit in a follow-up vid. I also got into the APP setup, and that kit supplies a nut that fits and it works too. 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸

    Looks great for the APP sizer but not so much for a C press. I wish the base the magazine fits into was made of metal. Could a similar system be designed for case feeding as an alternative to a more expensive drum feeder as on the Dillon 650?

    • @viejo2a
      @viejo2a  3 месяца назад

      HinLawrence. Yeah.. not likely that I’ll be using it with a C press. I’ve got video coming up for the APP version, and it works better. Lee has a similar magazine setup for case-feeding their progressive presses. It’s loaded with a simple collator that works very well. 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸

    • @viejo2a
      @viejo2a  3 месяца назад +1

      Hiya, Mike. In truth, one would need to be in the position of needing to load many cast rounds of a particular caliber to warrant this set up. 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸🇨🇦

    • @HobbiesHobo
      @HobbiesHobo 3 месяца назад +1

      @@viejo2a That's kind of what I thought, better for loading big batches like the competition shooters who go through 200+ rounds in a day or more. I do like that Lee is trying to innovate where some of the others are still selling the same stuff they made 40+ years ago.

  • @JP1AO
    @JP1AO 3 месяца назад +1

    I've been waiting to see somebody use it with the APP before I bought it. I just use a short piece of tube to feed the bullet feeder now. That still easier that setting a bullet on top of a shell. I do the same thing for a short run on the APP for deprime and size. I also use a short piece of tube for bullet sizing on the APP. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing you hook this up to the APP. I have a question for you. I tried putting my autodrum on my turret when I was doing some 44. The FCD makes such a racket that I couldn't get consistent powder drops. Do you use a FCD on your turret with the powder measure. I know my 357 FCD runs pretty smooth. I sent the specs of the 44 problem to Lee and they said its in spec. If I want, they will hone it out for $30.

    • @viejo2a
      @viejo2a  3 месяца назад +1

      Hi JP. I blow hot and cold with the Lee carbide FCD with cast bullets. The sizing ring is usually too narrow and it grabs the cartridge too hard when using bullets that are sized larger than bore diameter. My solution is to use a different crimp die. The sizing die supplied with RCBS Cowboy die sets for revolver cartridges works well, but most any crimp die other than the Lee FCD works better with cast bullets, IMHO.

    Would a properly sized e clip work to hold the tubes down? On top like that.

    • @viejo2a
      @viejo2a  3 месяца назад +1

      I don’t think so, M1. The whole magazine moves as a unit. It would need to be held tightly against the die body. 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸

      We have a follow-up video out now that addresses the 2 main problems with using it in a C press. Also, the video using it with the APP is upcoming. It works much better. I’m right with you though, I’m not likely to use this on a single stage press other than the APP.🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸
