Your videos are very well done. Good audio, good camera angles, good lighting. I also like how they are direct and to the point. All the time you are giving good instruction and explanation. I’m learning a lot each time I see one.
I've had that same mower for 19 years, starts first pull every spring, all I do is run out the old gas in the fall add some fuel preserver and store it in the shed.I do have that lose valve cover leaking oil so thanks for the tip on the lose bolts.😀
Found the same mower on the side of the road, it had the exact same problem. Cleaned the bulb without having to remove the carburetor. Thanks so much. Perfect video!
After trying to clean the carb with two fails I stumbled across this video. Sir you saved the day. I didn't know now the bowl bolt was a primary jet as well. Thanks so much for your valuable knowledge that you shared. I fixed my mower for 0 dollars. I owe you a beer:))
Hi Jeff, I just took my similar lawnmower out of the container where it has been sitting for 15 years. First question was, what do I have to do to get it to run again. It looks quite good but it won't start, thanks for this video, it will surely help me a lot to put life back into it. By the way I am in South Africa in the middle of the country in a small town called Orania.
Nice fix. I repaired an Echo gas powered drill for a person last week that the carb was so plugged and corroded that I had to buy a new one. Could not find an aftermarket for a Walbro WYL56. Had to buy OEM. Cost over $65.00 which was ridiculous. Thanks for the video's. .
Thank you ! Very educational ! I have the same mower engine Briggs Intek 7.0hp on my 7.5hp outboard lower unit . Could you please tell me the cylinder proper compression test between what and what on this engine ? Thank you so much .
She cleaned up very nice! I love your junk yard. That would keep me busy for quite some time if I had the money for parts. Quite a few Craftsmans and Hondas, have any Snappers?
I have a very similar engine. The plastic filter base is loose and wiggles around even though the mounting screws seem very tight, maybe even frozen. Did some plastic spacer wear out?
I do believe those particular models were manufactured with a chute and or a frame and bag not sure as I said have been looking online and cannot find any information
Have the same mower I'm leaking gas from the primer pump I replaced that and it's still leaking, was gonna buy a new carburetor for it is there anything I should try first?
I have a very similar mower, friend didn't want it, hadn't used it in 6 years. Couldn't get the bowl off, but cleaned out the bolt. Cleaned it up, put new oil in, new gas, new spark plug. Started on first pull, ran for about 5 seconds, shut it off and then it wouldn't start again. Not sure what happened.EDIT: Air filter was a dirt brick. Friend said he didnt service it the six years he had it. Guessing the engine may have flooded.
Thank you for your video as I am currently trying to repair a friend's Scott Lawnmower, very similar model to yours in the video. Just wondering, did you happen to see what actual RPM's that it was at after you fixed it?? The issue for me: my friend had to constantly prime gas in order to keep it running, otherwise it would quit. I cleaned the carb, and his air filter is brand new compared to yours, when I started it back up, eureka it runs on it's own but the RPMS were at about 4600!!! I have replaced the governor spring as that was stretched out, but this has not made a difference. I'm at a bit of a loss as to why the RPM's seem so high. There is really not much play with the governor arm. At least now I also know which way the throttle speed is going as he is missing that "rabbit/turtle" sticker that shows in the beginning of your video but is missing as well after the cleaning!!
Mine which is the same exact one and set up except the carb and everything is mounted on other side of the mower and my air filter sits on the side of the engine or carb I should say not on top like yours But my problem is if I prime it about 5 times or so it will start and run maybe 5 seconds and die and it does it over and over . I cleaned the carb bowl out and has fresh gas but keeps doing this. Need help thanks
@@JeffsLittleEngineService yeah that was actually one of the problems and the little o'rings was barley there and that one that goes in where the needle goes in at the very small one . It was completely gone so I got a rebuild kit and done it all and now it's doing perfectly. Butt it does kinda have a low idle but may clear up idk but until u raise it up to mow the grass it's fine . Just on the lowest idle part it kinda isn't smooth I may throw some seafoam to complety get everything going and clean
thanks friend! I try to sell all of them (sometimes As is) or restore them and sell or pick parts off of them. The John Deere's are in good shape I just have not had time to fix them yet. I dont know what an "e" mower is. The Hondas?
Jeff's Little Engine Service well john deere made a John deere 14sb and a 14sb which has electric start. I have a newer jx 75 and there was also a je 75 made
I was given a troy bilt self propelled with 6.5hp briggs. It was left with old gas and wouldn't start. It will start and die with starter fluid. Cleaned carb and main jet still no start on its own. There's not alot of fuel in bowl when removed. Spark plug is a little oily. Any ideas?
Possibly fuel supply issue, or fuel flow. Try taking off the float bowel, let the float hang down, does the fuel run out ? It could be a clog somewhere between the fuel tank and the carb. Look in the fuel tank, is there gunk near where fuel leaves the tank ? Sometimes there is a screen type filter there, sometimes just a hole, either of which might be clogged. Or a clogged inline filter or shut off valve. How many times can I say clogged in the same reply ? Word of the day.
You need to get yourself a ratchet wrench. once you get yourself a set and use them you will never use a box wrench again LOL. Also you should try the E3 spark plug. A few years back I was in Sears and I was such a regular customer that people and the tool and yard and garden section got to know me. This one young guy that normally took care of me saw that I was looking for spark plugs. he told me to try the E3 spark plug and that he will give me 20% off and if I did not like it I could bring it back for a full refund. So I picked up two of them for my riding mower. Once I was done with all the maintenance I could not wait to see how it ran with the new plugs. I can honestly say it was a night and day difference. My riding mower had more get-up-and-go then ever before. After that I was hooked on them. I put them in everything I own that has an engine. They are a little bit more money it is well worth it. I enjoyed your video hope to watch another one soon.
Luis Torres He commented earlier and said he used oil eater that's available at O'REILLY'S. That and purple power both work very well for cleaning up oil. There cheap too at about $8 for a gallon. Just dilute it with 50/50 mix so no pesky white residue gets left behind from the degreaser.
Luis Torres been cleaning mowers for years, I use a 50/50 mix of awesome cleaner and mean green both can be bought at the dollar store for a dollar a bottle, that cleans just as good and doesn't remove the shine from the paint.
I just, sonofabitch , I'm dumbfounded. Because I see all these videos with the scotts 2199 mowers with the briggs intek motors. It's funny. I have a snapper euro platinum with a 7 hp intek motor. , And I have the scotts with a Tecumseh motor. So I have both the engine and the mower on two different entity's. I know, it's mind boggling
I have worked on a few of these intek Scott's mowers and wow what a pos, to me, that briggs engine is the worse engine briggs ever made, till the new Chinese briggs that are out today.
My experience is the opposite of yours. I have had this very model lawnmower for 20+ years and I only had to clean out the carb this year, otherwise it still runs strong.

confirm that the throttle linkage on the carb movesand not bound up. Also, it may need the govenor arm reset/adjusted.
bend the metal tab away or closer the hook attaches too, if not already done in the last 3 yrs!

Hi Jeff can you tell what it’s the valve clearance on the Scotts lawnmower, I will apreciated!
Clearance is half inch intake n three quarters of an inch exhaust. That'll get that kitty a purrin.
