From the time that I saw this lawnmower, I knew that it needed a valve job. Valve jobs are very commonly needed on these models. Keep up the good work. 😊👍🏿
@@Buckwsr No disrespect to you. It was wise to check out things first. I truly believe that you are a really good mechanic, especially for someone who is self taught. Keep up the good work. 😊😊😊😊👍🏿
I've acquired this same mower. A company wanted it hauled off, so I've taken it home and it is hard to pull. Now I know what is wrong. Great video, Thank You
actually, this is Jane Rathbun. I'm working on a power smart mower. I enjoyed your video. This one has the same hard to pull problem. I've opened the valves but they are a different set up. I'm not super trained in this but enjoy working on them & have learned alot from you tube videos. I've already put a new carb on because it wouldn't restart when hot. With the new carb it sounds like it needs more air and I can't close air filter or it lugs down. It chugs a little while running but doesn't stall. But it is hard to start and rope pulls hard. I tried to regap the valves but unsure of what I'm doing.
It always amazes me how owners neglect even the simplest maintenance items - and then wonder why their equipment doesn’t run, or runs poorly. It isn’t rocket science! lol. Great vid, thanks! 👍
Well, to be fair, the guy has owned the machine for 20 years, and overall it's in pretty good shape. And he sharpened the blade, another good step of maintenance. So we won't be too hard on him. I'm just glad we figured out how to fix it. Thanks for watching!
Great video very informative and love how u break everything down kindergarten style as to show even the smallest steps and id rather watch a video like this tan a quick one that vaguely goes over things "we all happy"
There are some small equipment manuals which indicate checking valve lash after the first 50 or 100 hours and then on a regular basis thereafter at 100 hours or annually. Also, if you support the machine underneath to raise the front end an inch or two it will help avoid oil leaking out of the sump when the valve cover is removed.
My Dad had a JS60H, same deck and motor but with the high wheels. I need to do a valve adjustment on it but I can't loosen the hex key lock in order to adjust the valve...any suggestions?
how about the outer nut? Does that loosen with a wrench? Maybe try using a small impact driver for the inner hex bolt while holding the outer nut with a wrench.
Nicely done and very methodical in your well narrated process. Did you check/adjust the intake valve lash also while the cover was off?? Easy to follow pace!😊

Well, I figured it out eventually. I never claimed to be fast, but at least I arrived at the correct solution. Thanks!

Great thorough trouble shooting check ups and finally fixing the problem!
Thank you. I enjoyed the project!
Had a hard time with the hard start rope. After seeing your video I'm happy at least I know why and what to do to fix it . Thank you.

You figured that out pretty darn and Sounds good Thank you for the video
Super helpful. I'm about to try that on mine today. The previous owner was blowing through plastic pull cord assemblies.
Great video. I learned something new. Thank you.
One of the best videos I've seen

I have a Cub Cadet self-propelled 159cc engine ,what do I set my valves at?
Check you values clearance supposed to be between four on the intake five on the exhaust.

I'm sure I checked/adjusted valve lash on both sides. It's been a while, so I can't remember specifically....Thanks.
Thank you sir!
Thank you
Is there a shortage of clean rags in your area?
Pretty strange comment. Thanks for watching the video!

I suspect he was trying to be funny but didn’t know how to leave a laugh. 🔧👍😂
And you were blamed for overtightened the mower blade, ha wasn't that a laugh. I'm glad you found the problem n fix it good for you.
Hello ,how to work with you?I would like to send you our surface cleaner to review.
I never use the pull cord. I take the engine cover off and turn by hand.
I hope you cautioned the owner not to overfill again, since that can destroy an engine.
Pull rope will not return to the case
